Hi guys
I work fine with my Samsung galaxy s and i love it...
But i have a little question about he calendar... When i set a new appointment this is by default setting as personal calendar and not as my Google account... This is a problem for me because i work always by a sync with my Google account...and i use a lot of time this function for work.
In some other device remember that was possible set which calendar was a default calendar..and also was possible set if a new appointment is withal remember or not...
With my galaxy i see that is impossible...some Solution?
Thanks for you help in advance..

This absurd malfunction has been fixed in the Froyo releases (at least JPC and JPH).
I use the Jorte calendar app, there you can set your default calendar. Free in the market.
@ hy daClaus: yes i imagine that there is some program that allow me to set this function, but i want use a standard calendar, that is good for me (but with this problem)
@MoWa22: yes..is a absurd problem, and you confirm me that is a bug..io can now just wait some days...in Italy in this day some website write that Thursday will be able to download a official froyo release from kies....i'm waiting this..and i hope that this new release can increase the total speed of my system!
any news from you about this?
thanks in advance!

Well, it's not really a bug, it's just that Samsungs engineers/project managers don't really use their brains much.
There are rumours that an official Froyo will be launched Thursday, but I wouldn't bet my money on it - but it should hopefully be out soon, though I'd rather like them to wait a month if that is what it takes to make a proper release.

So this will be my first Android mobile, I want to believe this phone was the best choice for this platform.
Moving from Windows Mobile (HTC HD2), so this is a new chapter in my mobile phones experience live
Not at all a noob, just want to receive some advices, where to start, if is a must to update the stock firmware, if XDA is the best community for Android (as is for WM), to meet the GS community
HD2 was my ex-phone 2
well dont rush to flash anything the moment u get ur phone do some reading here
try rooting it unlocking the market find a way to keep your contacts sync with gmail all the time if u gone play around with firmwares alot
then try the samset rom u will like it (its fixed now i think) prepare to brick the phone alot but dont warry u cant actualy brake it and if u realy like to do more try the lagfix on the stickies
u will be busy for a week or so
have fun with ur new mob
Thank you, I'm a little excited, 1 hour ETA for my new phone
On my HD2 I used a lot Microsoft Myphone who automatically sync my contacts, SMS, pictures with their web site.
I know that I can sync wit Gmail, but is there a solution for SMS ?
http://www.appbrain.com/app/tv.studer.smssync Sms sync
http://www.appbrain.com/app/app.calltrack phonelog sync
i dont know if they r bidirectional though but having the data at gmail works for me
oh and install appbrain too syncs your applications
Get latest firmware, root it, do the speed fix, edit gps.conf (use search of the forum for all I've said)
Before you do all the stuff install the Clockworkmod Recovery.
instead of doing all of the above, i suggest you to try the phone stock, out of the phone for a week or 2 at the very least, and then see really what you want to change from stock.
that's what i'm doing.
know your phone, before you start modding it.
i did the same for my old HTC Athena, and for my car as well
but in my car i kept it mostly stock until 10 yrs has passed, now i'm going nuts with the mods
Got the phone, amazing screen colors, already rooted and with latest firmware (Froyo), good speed, nice interfaces, many apps
Short question: I have the contact now synced with Gmail and also one of them with Facebook. I want in the contacts to see the Facebook picture not the one in in Gmail . How (I hope is possible) can I do this ?
Froyo?
too short...

Don't get paranoid Maybe he just made a mistake.
If I create a contacts group in google.com/contacts it never appears in my phone (even after sync, course). But if I try to add the same group name in the phone it tells me the group exists so I can't create it. Oh Ye?!?! So where is it you stupid SGS? Show it to me. Nada!
If I create a group in my phone it never shows up in google.com/contacts. I can even go there and create a group with the same name.
Is this by design? Who belongs this bug? Android or Samsung? Do you have this problem with SGS or other phones.
Blame Samsung. They replaced the stock Android Contacts app with their own. There are many complaints about it in the forums.
Lol thanks. Is there an easy or not so easy way of reverting that crap samsung contact app?

You cannot uninstall the Samsung Contacts app, which is what syncs with Google. But you can install another third-party app and use that as your interface instead.
(Actually, I think the Samsung app does download the Google groups data element when it syncs, but just fails to display it.)
I have tried a free Market app called Contacts Evolved, which does display the contacts, by Gmail group, in separate tabs. A little buggy, though, with some force-close issues.
The more I try to use the really usefull features the more problems. I have the SGS almost a month and now can properly say (since this is stuff from other galaxy):
"Oh my god, it's full of BUGS"
I've created a calendar in Google calendar and it showed up in SGS. Great! This is rocket science.
Then I deleted that calendar. Vanished from the phne. OOooohhhoo!! Great.
Now I create another calendar. Nada. Zero. No way to make the calendar appear. Did I consumed my one calendar limit ?
Oh boy. This is so bad. Consumes a lot of time.
FM radio is mono. GPS is a joke. Contacts and Calendar have more bugs that entries. You get the strange sensation that when you peek under the hood it's a great hardware in the hands of the wrong guys. Just put vanilla FROYO please. It's easier and you can fire a lot of incompetent engineers.
I have 5 calendars in google calendar. Why this crazy phone only shows me 3? And what can I do besides selling it?
Sync and reboot are useless.
EDIT
I installed Gemini Calendar just to see if I can overcome the problem and with that app I can see all the calendars. I choose them, but the events I have in the ones missing from the stock SAMSUNG cal app, don't appear also. So one step closer to nothing.
just a question, did you enable viewing google contacts from the display option in the contacts app?
In the JP# Froyo builds, Google contact groups are listed (because this annoyed me too), so expect it in the official Froyo release when released

Ok, let's hope. But there is already too much stuff sliding to froyo. It's gonna be the SGS mother of all fixes... not good, not good.
And now this calendar bug. This is starting to annoy me.
I actually used groupy a free app to overcome the stupid contacts apps from Samsung...shows all the groups perfectly from my mail contacts
I'll try that one also. Thanks
"Contacts GroupU" also does the trick. Good to group the google contacts on the phone, which did not work for me before.
I create the groups in the Samsung UI, fill them in the GroupU App. Thereafter all the stuff syncronizes correctly with my google account.
What doesn´t work for me, is vice versa.
Will Froyo fix all these problems? The answer is in September...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Suuuuuuure it will (not). Froyo will be the mother of all fixes... Oh boy. You have to work in some other business to believe Froyo will solve all these bugs.
It will solve some, and bring different ones. That's a fact of life.

But then again, Samsung are focusing on fixing the major, most common bugs, so it will possibly fix all the major ones.. Also, Froyo is a refined version of Eclair (and a lot of Froyo stuff like highmem is already integrated in eclair builds). Google has probably fixed a lot too.
But nobody knows. That's the reality. We all have different beliefs, but they are simply that. Nobody has proof!
yeah i went form iPhone to SGS and I'm pissed that the really essential stuff doesn't work.
But i have some hope that it will be fixed soon because there is really a lot of these phones around, maybe they will fix the lag to.
Love the open system but then my iPhone was to open (jailbroken).

The Samsung Contacts app is part of Samsung's firmware, not Google's Froyo OS. Now, Samsung may bundle a firmware fix along with Froyo, but that is a different matter.
I really Like Froyo........... (try JPA at the Moment)
But one thing i really miss in any Froyo releases (and i have tried nearly every ROM that was leaked) since the first Froyo releases the Sync of Tasks and Appointments that are created by third Party Apps (Jorte, Quickaddroid....) is broken.
The Tasks are (on Device) stored in my Google Calaendar but not synced. Only if i open and save it in Stock Calendar they ar synced.
Call Logger (e.g. Lo2Calendar) also not working.
This is absolutely essential for me because the Stock Calendar is a very bad Solution and nearly unuseful.
But i am very surprised, that no one misses this Function or tell it as an Bug.
Does anyone Know an Workaround???????
I really appreciate Froyo.
But without this Options it is no Option for me and so i have (once again) to flash back to JM8.
This was, until now, the most stable and reliable ROM for me.
There is already a thread somewhere specifically about the Jorte problems (from which I also suffer). I also don't like the Samsung Calendar app, but didn't find a workaround (yet)...

sync with google, & everything will be there. Hope it helps.
Bad Luck
So there seams to be no Way to get this working under Froyo.
And so i had once again flashed back to JM8.
Ok i playing around a lot with the Phone. But at first it has to work and this as good as it can.
And without the Cal sync in 3rd Party Apps it works, not for me.

ragin, i think you havnt read my post really
I DO AND I WILL sync with Google!!!!
Thats the only Option for me.
But under Froyo the Galaxy does not sync Tasks that are created by 3rd Party Apps.
Please.
Before posting such useless tipps, read and understand the meaning of the post.
Dont want to bother you.
Sorry......
Sounds more bad than i mean it
pbruck,
Well, just to bring your attention to the fact that calendar sync with 3rd party apps is working again in firmware XXJPU (FROYO 2.2.1!)

My first froyo-version was XWJPA installed through Kies. After that, 3rd party sync didn't work. I later did a full-wipe install of XWJPA through Odin. After that, it started working again. So I think something went wrong with the settings of my Jorte after the update to froyo through Kies.
Wow this is bad
Does anyone have a solution to these problems. This is horrid. I can't believe that I have to choose the calendar that an event is added to EVERY TIME. I didn't even know it was happening until I noticed my CallTrack data was not syncing properly. If I could I would return my phone.
Everyone,
just thought I would share this with you. I had discovered a problem in the native Email app with Exchange ActiveSync account. If a connection was lost a battery drain occurred which did not stop unless you killed the service, restarted your phone or put the connection back (a partial wake lock was not released in the sync service).
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9307
I have been in discussions with Google developers about this for a long time and they were not able to find or track down the bug. I managed then to compile the Email app myself, debug it, find the problem and fix it.
Google finally confirmed the bug...
You can see the symptoms explained in post #77.
At the end of the issue you can see my analysis and how the code was fixed.
Anyway, find the latest Email app below so you can download it.
The Email app version is 2.3.5r1 (latest Git repository version of Gingerbread 2.3.5r1)
The changes done
- Fixed battery drain (wake lock released properly)
- Calendar synchronization syncs all historic events (not only 14 days old and newer)
Installation notes
Since Email app is a system application you cannot just install it and replace the old one. The only way is to have a rooted phone and delete the old /system/app/email.apk (make a backup of course).
Reboot your phone and then install the new Email.apk. It is suggested to remove the accounts first otherwise you can get a FC.
That's great work Jacob!
This bug should exist on all gingerbread roms, no?
Should I just installed it or replace the original one with root explorer?
Can not synchronize ALL messages, maximum period is month!

I have just updated the installation notes. This could work too but since I was constantly updating and testing the app I decided to make it a user app by the steps in the first post.

Yes, a standard behavior of the Email app. I could bypass that too if you need. It's a shame that both Calendar and Email period of sync cannot be setup properly (whatever the user might desire)
Great news, thank you very much!!!
Will definitely test this evening .
Yes, ability to sync all mail would be nice, too, if it's not a problem for you .
This is great, good job.
I experimented the same issue and noone seemed to believe me. Well done.
EDIT: btw im a galaxy s cyanogen mod user, maybe you could post this in a more general forum
I'm not knowledgeable about these things, but how would someone go about getting this fix implemented into CM7? I'm also a Galaxy S CM7 user who has suffered from this issue and I've had to resort to using Moxier Mail as a remedy. If I install this fixed .apk, will it just get overwritten once I flash the next CM7 nightly? It would be great if it could be integrated into CM7.
Works very well on Samsung GalaxyS-CM7, thanks a lot!
One question though, the maximum sync period is one month, whereas in the CM7 client it can be set to unlimited (for email at least).
I also made a zip-file to flash this new email.apk. Made for galaxy S CM7, but I guess it should work on any CM7...
3h ago exchanged Email.apk and so far good. Switching to Flight produces 2mA drain. Synchronizing corporate mail and Contacts/Calendar works normally with no issues so far .
niiiiiceeeeee!!!!
but is there any way to get the app skaled when changing the devices-density???
it's been workin' with this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775007
but your version keeps beein small while changin
thx in advance...
Hi jakubklos,
I'm using airplain mode every night when I go to sleep and being aware of this annoying bug I usually kills the EMail app and stops all it syncs.
From now I can go to sleep knowing I won't be losing 10% or more of my battery while sleeping.
You're great man!
BTW, Beats me what takes Google so much time to fix it themselves.
genius, thanks jakubklos
Is this the same email app for sense roms or is it only ASOP that is effected by this issue?
Also, Way to go on showing google up!
cant use it ..i get force close all the time !!!!!

I got that too after installing it, but then I fixed the permissions using Rom Manager and rebooted and it worked.
If I am using the Gmail app, can't I just uninstall the system app and not worry about installing the new one?

Yes, you can do that.
Just to update, left the phone over night on flight mode and there was no battery drain.
Great work!

Thanks a lot for this!
Found some solution online but couldn't try them cause I haven't received my N7 yet to try them out:
GameShare
DataSync
GameOn
Also is there an app that sync where you stopped at your timeline? that would be great.
Can you share your experience if you tried them? if not try and tell your experience to the Android realm : )
Hands down datasync. Well to be fair I haven't tried the other two, but that's because I never had to. Datasync works flawlessly even when it first got released for me. I used that to transfer some save data from a few apps today when I got my N7. Give them all a try but definitely start with DataSync.
Thank You!
What about twitter? is there any twitter app with timeline position sync.
the only solution I've found is using TweetMarker. which am trying when N7 arrives

Tweetmarker works quite well. The only two Twitter apps that I know of that use it are Plume and Tweetlanes. Tweetlanes isn't officially supported on tablets though, but the developer makes the apk availabale here: https://plus.google.com/104649936579980037256/posts/53SL5vZ3kZL
Boid is meant to add Tweetmarker support, but their development of key features isn't exactly quick so I wouldn't hold out.
