In CM6 they have a custom shortcut built into the ROM that lets assign both the label and choice of an icon, amongst other things.

The custom shortcut grey's out when you add a custom icon. So you really can only use app icons. Also there is no widget support plus it only works on the ADW launcher.

My phone really only consists of 3 screens and I only use one icon for everything, which I have on my main home screen. Is there any way to place that icon in the center?
Since our phones only have space for four icons across, its kinda hard to place that in the center. I'm using launcherProPlus

Pretty sure you can change the amount of columns and rows using launcher pro. You can also resize icons using lpp as well

Tried to use launcherpro, but no such luck

launcherpro 5x5
install with long press NOT add button (lets you choose icon)
should work
if not, do a 5x5, use a clear icon and either just "know' its there, or choose wallpaper that has an "icon like" look in the middle - trial and error to line up "invisible" icon to wallpaper
hint - use non scrolling wallpaper option
hope that helps
ps - i'm pretty new to this so there may be a better way - but this way does work
Is it possible to edit the icons on TW icons - like from root explorer - to not include the name of the app ?
I dont want to switch launchers to get more options.
Without switching launchers, you aren't going to get customization outside of arranging the icons on the dock, with the exception of the Apps icon
Only way I know is by switching launchers. LP has the option.
Thanks, much appreciated.

Adw does as well.
You know how you can long press the screen on your phone and select "shortcut" and it lets you pick an app and pick a custom icon from the gallery?
How do you do this on Honeycomb?
Im thinking you are referring to adw and not the default launcher because that option is not available.

You could use desktop visualizer to kind of create icons, where you can choose the icon for application and so on...just take a look at it

Interesting, i have checked it out, going to play with it later (The app!) Then report back.Looks good though, cheers mate
This feature really should be included in sense, very time consuming having to use the app just to remove the text from under the icon.

Well, if you use a a different launcher, like launcherpro or adw, you can use custom icon packs(Suave etc).

Yup, using an alternate launcher in my opinion is the easiest way. There are plenty of themes available, and you can also change individual app icons very easily. I use Go Launcher Ex. It has some really cool transition animations.

I totally agree, HTC, must realise that ALOT of their customers want to tweek Sense more than they currently allow, so they eventually turn to other launchers.
Causing negative feelings towards Sense... as stable as it is!
I also prefer Go Launcher Ex for this, because not only does it allow Icons to be easily changed, but also renaming of apps.
I hate to see names cut off on the homescreen so I change them - for example
Tune In Radio is cut to Tune In... - so I change it to 'Radio'
One solution could be with Folder Organizer App. In Folder Organizer create a shortcut of app you want and simply change the icon. Afther that go to home, add, shortcut, Folder Organizer Item, shortcuts and select the one you created.
Hi All, recently installed paranoid android, anyone got any idea how i create shortcuts with my own icons? the default launcher doesnt seem to have anywhere i can change it. and i dont wanna install another launcher ideally.
couldn't one simply long press a app's icon on the home screen and then tap EDIT? then you can search for the icon you want to replace it with. I believe that's how I did it.

You would need a custom launcher like Nova Launcher to edit your icons
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You installed a completely new, and alpha, ROM. Why do you hesitate to install a new launcher?
The latest Nova launcher will even import your icon and screen layouts from the stock launcher.
Sure would like to do this with out adding a launcher as well. Not sure Nova or any other launcher can duplicate all the different looks to your homepage that Paranoid Android is mostly flashed for.
Edit: flashing a launcher will do the trick disregard the above BS.
