Touchscreen Not Functioning Correctly - Streak 5 General

The screen on the my streak has been slowly degrading, to the point where i can barely do basic functions of the phone. It doesnt register touches or swipes a large percentage of the time. If I long press on the background to bring up the add shortcut widget popup, it usually will bring the phone back to 85% function. But if I lock the screen and try again, I have to go back to longpressing until I can click apps.
Often presses will register along the top bar and bring up the notification screen or short menu when I am clicking anywhere but on the top. It has happened several times while typing this.
Has anyone had Touchscreen problems with their Streaks?

Do you have a screen protector on and maybe some debris between it on the screen?
I'd recommend aligning the screen.

If necessary, you can calibrate your touch screen as follows:
1 Press and hold the power button and then touch the Power off option on the screen to turn off the device.
2 Simultaneously press and hold the volume up button and volume down button .
3 Without releasing the volume buttons, press and hold the power button , until the device turns on the configuration screen.
4 Press the volume buttons to move the highlight bar on the screen to the Screen calibration option.
5 Touch the Camera button to start the touch screen calibration. 6 Wait for the device to reboot.

Also you could enable the debuging mode by typing in *#*307#*#* in your dialer, then in your app list you should see some new apps.
Open up Dev tools the select Pointer Location
Also another one is EmList and then select "Touch_Panel" theres a handful of diagnostic tools there that are pretty fun to mess with to see if something is physically wrong with your screen
Oh and to hide/disable debugging mode, just type in *#*308#*#*

I do also have some screen issues i had 8105 went back to 8023 and was working fine until today that it was acting up, but is better than 8105 which only let me touch half the screen, now it lets me do about 80% of the screen from bottom to top. I do have a screen protector, when I was running 1.6 didn't see this issue. Also i noticed that sometimes when my fingers are a bit sweaty the touch input doesn't work that well.

No screen protector, stock 1.6. Will try debug, thanks.
It happens with sweaty hands with dry hands its just messed up.

I just used the 6 step block method and it seems to have solved my issue. Help very much appreciated!

How long did it take to reboot after you hit the camera button?

I had to do mine yesterday as the lower part of the screen wasn't registering touches properly, as if it was about 50 pixels out.
First time round it didn't boot up with the volume keys held so i popped the battery off and started again (seems to be a common issue with this device). Then it was pretty much as standard for the boot. Keep the buttons held til the menu pops up, choose calibration, leave it until it says it's done and then reboot.
Again, should reboot as normal but if it doesn't try popping the battery off. The rear cover seems to cause a fair few issues with this!!
oh and running the calibration fixed the issue for me!

Annoying Touch buttons
I think that the most DHD users have the same problem, touching the buttons at the bottom if you really dont want to.
So my question is if it would be possible to change the "Home" or the "Menu" button (pushing long) from "last used apps" to "turn on/off the touch keys???
that would be awsome
thx Dr.Pepper
Never been an issue for me, although i was anticipating problems with no hardware buttons its been fine...

Can't help but say, "you're holding it wrong!"
Seriously though I've never encountered this problem on either this phone or my N1 which has a smaller screen.
How exactly are you managing to press the buttons by mistake?
Regards.
iam the only one who has the problem that he accidently hits a touch key while using the phone or playing a game? every little contact triggers the keys. i.e. if i use the thumb to type a message, holding the phone in the right hand, i sometimes trigger the search key.
my idea is to make it harder to trigger these keys. as they are part of the touchscreen, it sould be possible to do anything that can be done with the touch sreen. my ideas:
1. double-touch; tapping the key 2 times (like a double-klick) triggers it once
2. sweep; i.e. you touch the home-button and sweep out of it, then release. can be even harder with sweeping out and back in.
3. circle-touch; making a little circle over the button triggers it.
other ideas welcome.
---------------------------------
2nd problem: easier unlocking;
i feel it sometimes tricky to unlock the pone, wich is done by pressing the powerbutton at the top of the phone and sweeping on the bottom of the screen. the phone is'nt very small (or i have small hands). if iam holding the phone at the bottom, i can nearly reach the whole touch area with my thumb, but to unlock, i need to use my 2nd hand or to juggle the phone so i can reach the power button with the right hand. with the G1, which had a menu button at the bottom, it was just double-pressing that button and the phone was unlocked. iam looking for a similar easy way to do it.
its just annoying to take the phone out of the pocket and use both handy or juggle around to unlock it...
i dont know it it wastes additional energy to have the touchscreen active, so it can be used to unlock the phone. so my ideas:
1. use the touchscreen to unlock; i.e. draw a pattern, press the bottom key in some order (home, back, menu to unlock)
2.1 use the volume keys. if the screen is disabled, they are used to change the audio volume (or is that only the case, if music is playing?) When holding the phone at the bottom with the right hand, the volume-down hey is easily reachable. so you can do volume-down (which activates the screen) and then slide on the screen like you would do if you have pressed the power button. pressing volume-down with deactivated screen does not change the volume, but pressing it twice does (i.e. 1st press unlocks the screen and 2nd press takes volume down).
2.2 press vol-up and vol-down at the same time to unlock the phone. if i do that the phone vibrates sometimes, no idea why.
3. use acceleromater (or a other sensor?) to unlock, i.e. shaking the phone in a special way (i.e. a circle), activates the screen, so you can unlock it by sliding on it. also full unlock by shaking a phone could be possible (also known as kung-fu-unlock )
other ideas also welcome.
Proximity sensor for unlock when taking it out of the pocket :-D. I have the same problem as you so a 'fix' would be nice
yeah, you take the phone out of the pocket and it unlocks and says "hello raw, how you are doing?".
but that would be nice. question is if constantly checking the prox sensor would drain the battery much. it needs to be checked every 3 seconds or so.

Screen Lock & Freeze w/ Camera+Left

In trying to set up controls for a game, I found a very unhappy button combination. If the camera button is fully depressed while holding the left key on the hardware keyboard, the screen will lock and usually freeze the phone. Another user who tried to replicate this for me got an unresponsive camera app that required a reboot.
What are other users' mileage here? Anybody have any ideas on a workaround, or is this probably just a hardware quirk?
i tried every diff combination of left and the camera button, and did not have the same experience. i do know that if your in the camera app, and press power, it does lock the phone, but i think it is supposed to. pressing the power button a second time unfreezes it. imma do more research. i read something about this once on ppcg.
i found this.may or may not be the same thing for your friends.
"hey folks For those of you experiencing a lock-up while in camera mode, I thought it happened to me the other day as well, turns out its not a bug its user error. If you try to turn off the screen while in camera/video mode by hitting the screen lock button you are locking the camera mode, which mean you are making it so that the phone does not accept any inputs aside from unlocking by hitting the power/ screen unlock button again. This "lock mode" is indicated by lock icon appearing in the top corner of the screen. The reason for this screen unlock button again. This "lock mode" is indicated by lock icon appearing in the top corner of the screen. The reason for this mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your video, so you can lock it and not worry about it. Of course this means if you don't know about the feature and you activate it, instant freak out. But, now you know mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your video, so you can lock it and not worry about it. That may have something to do with it, but is not the problem I am having. When I am somewhere outside of the camera app (homescreen or game, for example) if I hold the left arrow key and fully depress the camera button, the screen will turn off and make the lock sound. Usually I can unlock it with the power button or this combinaton again, but it will occasionally freeze and refuse to accept input from the touchscreen or capacitive buttons.
(If it's at all helpful, I was trying to set up the camera button as the R shoulder button in SNESdroid.)
It could be that the phone is getting confused and thinks I'm trying to lock the camera app, but since I'm not in the app it locks the entire phone.
I just did it while reading your post lol I can confirm it freaks out lol

[Q] Omnia 7 Home Button responsiveness

Hello all,
I have a question regarding the Samsung Omnia 7's home button and its responsiveness. I've heard some say that it's not very responsive, and that it takes a few presses for for the device to respond. Is this true? How responsive is the home button?
I've been using it for 2 weeks now and have no problems with the home button
Sometimes I have this issue. Thinking about sending it back for repair if the problem persists/gets worse. Curious fact: If you press hard at the bottom of the device, while pushing the windows-button - it won't react at all.
Make sure that you are not covering the light and proximity sensor..
You can experiment it by placing your hand on top of the phone and press the home button.. You will notice that the screen doesn't turn on!
That was it. Covering the light sensors at the top right disables the home-button. Very understandable given that you don't want it to turn on in your pocket.

But isn't that the point of having a lockscreen? what are the chances of pushing the home button, and sliding up the lockscreen in your pocket?
The power button wakes it up even if the sensors are covered, so it seems having this feature on the home button is an unnecessary annoyance.
For what it's worth...I don't want to have an empty battery just because something in my pocket pressed the home button and the screen lit up.
This feature is good -why should I press the home button when the proximity sensor is being covered?
Sometimes the home button is not responding at all. Only a reboot helps. Anyone with similar problems and a solution? Or is this a wp7-bug.

Read the posts above.
It's not a bug. The home button will not react if the LIGHT SENSOR is covered. It's designed that way, so if the button is pressed in your pocket your phone won't turn on and waste battery.
Try in a well lit area and do not cover the sensor at the top of the phone. The home button will work exactly the same as the lock button then.
If the sensor is covered, the home button won't react. If it's not, then the home button will.
End of story, moving on...

So in theory, if you are in a pitch black room, your home button will not turn on the screen? Don't think so.
........It's not the light sensor, it's the proximity sensor.

Sorry but that is simply not true (so not end of story....) I actually just tried to lay down my phone on a table and then cover the whole top of the phone with my hand (also tried with a piece of thick paper) so the sensor is covered. Then I tried to press the Home button, well it still works on my Omnia 7. I always return to the homescreen or my turned off screen will turn on - even with the sensor in the top covered completely - but what I cant is to scroll in the tiles or anything on the screen (sometimes), seems the sensor disables all my touch on the screen, but not the hardwarebutton Home in the middle - if you dont believe it, I could create a video of it.....
EDIT HERES A VIDEO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czRqo8-UEj8
I've had such a problem ... the home button not responding ...
also in conversation I could not hang up call, just a black screen would remain. Only remove the battery worked. when I got the jig, I put the new software and have no further problems

[Q] need help with my touch screen. tmous hd2

[Q] Touchscreen not working on lock and reset screens

In the last couple of weeks, when the pattern lock screen is displayed, it intermittently doesn't accept touch input. If I power off and on the screen quickly, it then accepts touch input fine.
Similarly, if I press and hold the power button (with the phone on), it brings up a "Phone Options" screen, with options for Silent, Airplane, Profile, Reboot and Power Off. Touch input does not work at all on this screen. I'm working around this by using the Quick Boot app.
Otherwise, touch input works fine, so I don't think it's a hardware problem.
I've seen something similar when Google Nav gets in front of the lock screen. Touch doesn't work until I power off and on the screen, and enter the lock pattern. Could something invisible be getting in front of the lock and power screens?
Using Pongster's HyperDroid-GBX-v12 (2.3.3).
Hey there,
Maybe the ROM h doesnt function properly on your device. Try shifting to another rom. All are equally amazing. If you do not want to shift, try running task29 and start the process all over again

Have you read the thread about the unresponsive touchscreen, where pressing hard on the end call button fixes the screen touch? I assume your problem is in essence the same; once you press it hard enough to actually unlock the screen the touch works fine.

That probably is what the problem is. Btw to everyone, I haven't noticed a difference in pressing it really hard, I noticed that pressing it a lot of times does the trick

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think it's the ROM, been using GBX-v12 since it was released, and previous versions before that.
The symptoms do seem similar to the other thread, but others report it on many screens. I only get it on the lock and reset/power screen. Otherwise, it works fine. However, those screen are brought up after pressing the power key ...
I suppose if it is hardware, then it's likely that cable issue. If it's software, then a reset should clear it, so I might try an ICS ROM from scratch first.

I guess i shoulda commented that how my digitizer began acting, it only did it while in the power menu but after a couple days it started doing it while just hitting the power button to put it to sleep, so i remapped my green phone key to be the power button

Thanks for the tip. You're right about the symptoms getting worse, it now occasionally stops working on other screen
I'm using any button but power to turn on the phone. To turn it off I've added "Go to sleep" to the notification widget bar, which I assume is the same as pressing power??
Not quite as user friendly and sometimes I forget not to use power off, but it'll do for now!

Yes that will work! I used it cause I got lazy and didn't feel like changing the key file but it's much easier to use the green call key instead of the notification power widget

Try this:
Lock the screen normally, screen turns off.
To turn it on again by pressing any other screen buttons other than the power button.
I found that if I do it this way, the screen runs normal.
