Okay I messed up I rooted my phone and updated it, and I tried to take a chance to put the hero rom on my phone, and now it's stuck on the install icon. I take the battery out and try to access recovery mode and it won't get off that screen.
What happened? I was wondering if someone would help me out here. Please.
What is the "install icon"? Your post doesn't make sense... can you describe what you're seeing?
Also, can you enter bootloader by holding down the camera button while powering up?
it's a box with a phone next to it. and no it won't let me enter bootloader. the same stuff came on.

If you can't enter bootloader or recovery, then you're definitely bricked. However, simply trying to flash a Hero ROM wouldn't do that. Did you flash the new radio and SPL?
I don't understand why newbs insist on flashing straight to a Hero ROM once they've rooted... you HAVE to update to a regular ROM first in order to flash an upgraded recovery, then flash radio, then SPL, then Hero ROM.
It was totally a noob move. I'm new to this whole thing and saw this youtube video of this guy running android and hero 2.0.1 on his g1 and like wanted it so bad and now I'm paying for it cause my phone is slammed stuck.
The Hero rom actually didn't do it, it was the radio update that was given with the hero rom that did it.
What Hero ROM did you use? Can you post a link? If you had flashed the SPL already, then flashed the updated radio afterwards, then yeah.. that would do it.

Yea thats what I did. Son of a *****, I knew I should of just waited until T-Mobile released 2.0 for the G1, but NO I had to "HAVE" it. ****!
That sucks man... did you buy your phone from T-mobile recently? If so, you could get it exchanged by telling them that there was some update, and then afterward it just gets stuck at that screen.
naw i got it about eight monthes ago. i bought two, one for me and one for my girl.
If you bought it brand new 8 months ago, it should still be under warranty. Call T-mobile if you ordered it online or over the phone, or take it back to the store if you bought it from there. They'll replace it for you.
Just don't tell them what you were doing... play dumb and act like you don't know what happened. Tell them there was some message about an update and you hit ok, then when it rebooted it got stuck.

Thats a actual hero rom for the Hero phone, you needed the ported one for the G1 / Dream.
I know its no help now the damage is done, but once you get the phone sorted.
As others have said just act dumb with tmobile and you should get it replaced.

Just flash a donut ROM after you root the replacement. Dwang's is a good choice, as it includes Terminal Emulator, which comes in handy to flash to an updated Recovery. I recommend Amon_RA's latest v1.5.2. Once you have flashed the updated recovery, THEN you should flash the updated Radio, THEN the Danger SPL. Follow the directions in my sig for flashing the Radio and SPL. Then you'll have to flash Dwang's ROM again, since the SPL flash will throw your phone into a bootloop. Just don't freak out. Make sure you read the tutorials and ask us questions if anything's unclear.

So my phones screen is messed up. The letters a and l on the keyboard dont register unless I press the screen really HARD. That area of the screen is unresponsive. I tired different ROMS but its a problem with the touch panel
I called T-Mobile and they said I should take it to a store. Apparently I have 2 year warranty . There some slight scratches at the bottom of my phone so they may think I dropped it
So how can I put it back to stock ROM via recovery and default Radio?
Thanks
Connect handset to PC/Lappy using USB. Then run the T-Mobile RUU from
STICKY [ROM] Official HTC Hero RUU ROM + Radio Links
Done.
..... And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE POST IN GENERAL OR Q&A NEXT TIME. THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION IS NOT THE PLACE FOR THIS.

not an issue with the touch, in my experience anyways ... I've had the same issue, it lasted for quite some time ... then i started using swype .. and hte issue went away, the issue also doesnt' reside in the vanilla keyboard stock by android ... you can switch to this with ... longclick on input box ... input method .. android keyboard ... see if that fixes it at all ..
as soon as i stopepd using SEnSE UI roms, my issue was fixed ....
try that before taking it in .... i hated it too, and was almost ready to take it in, then used vanilla rom, too good for life.

It does not need to be the newest one, just original.
Choose one which you can root.
just flash the system.img,boot.img and recovery.img from the ruu you should be ok then
Had the same issue. Called HTC. They told me it was a verry comon problem. Got a new screen within 5 days. Good service!

doesnt even need to be official rom. mine went back with vanillaeclair rom installed and fully rooted. Had done a nandroid backup beforehand. first thing they do regardless is flash a rom onto it so they dont care.
Yeah, just send them with whatever ROM you currently have. Doesn't really matter. Its not as if they'll fine you if they found out because now your problem is the the touchscreen, not the software.
ramsky they may say it voids warranty so I have to pay
Is there not an update.zip available for defualt rom?
Just use RUU for the version that goes with you bought
there is. but it will keep the recovery, so they can found out that you had root.
when you are using a RUU, your phone will be like you just Bought it.

I can help you out through this process, lol.
Step 1: When you turn on the phone, is there an "Unlocked" text in the top left corner?
so far all the info you've given us says it's stock. What ROM is it using?

Ok... here's a potential issue - we don't know how the previous owner ever updated to 2.3.4 (aka if they OTA'd), which increases hard brick possibilities. Because we want to avoid a hard brick, the best course to get to "stock" would be samcripp's fruitcakes in the development section and use specifically the 2.3.4 fruitcake. This will get your phone to mostly stock, however the "Unlock" would still stay in the top corner on boot up, which is not stock and won't help you in terms of warranty if that's where you're heading.

Oh alright i get it. thanks a lot, i'll look in the fruitcake thing, why cant i lock the bootloader again?
Mainly because the bootloader relocking commands don't actually do anything.
Once the bootloader is unlocked it can't be locked again. Motorola uses the unlocked text at the top left as proof that you were modifying your phone therefore voiding the phones warranty.

Actually, you are really lucky that the previous owner did all the modding (eliminating risk of bricking while doing it for you .
Now you can install a stock ROM as well as any of the custom ROMs, and when CM7 arrives you will be ready for it too.
To revert back to stock 2.3.4 with your current setup, download the 2.3.4 fruitcake CWM package in the developer's forums. Boot into CWM, fully backup your current system. Wipe all data, install stock rom from your SD card, wipe data again, reboot enjoy.
Removed: Too difficult to do without a device.

Just load onto the sdcard, go into your recovery and select to flash it from there and then just reboot. It's that simple.

If it was in Samsung's own stock recovery ("3e" recovery), I want to put you in touch with a contact of mine at Samsung.
Could you PM me your email address please?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Seriously... If we ever want this nightmare to end, we need to get evidence of danger in stock recovery to engineers at Samsung (not their service centers... they're clueless... If it goes into a service center, it's a lost opportunity). Thank you very much for your attempts to sabotage those efforts.

Hope you can communicate with Entropy first before you decide to send your device.. He has a contact at Samsung..
i hope you can get in contact with entropy,, samsung will likely replace your unit with a brand new one.. we all love brand new things, don't we?
Unbelievable.... I never thought stock ICS 4.0.4 can brick our phone....
By the way to the OP... where you also using the stock kernel when you wiped partition /cache? or where you using a custom kernel?
*now this me think on the credibility of all stock ICS (including the latest 4.0.4) ones already... If the OP got hit by this hard brick bug (on stock 4.0.4 ICS, assuming he was using also the stock kernel that comes with it), how many more do you think will follow the OP's plight of hard bricking their phones...?
...and come to think 4.0.4 ICS is beginning to be released already in every region of the world..... this is quite an alarming news.....
What do you guys mean with stock recovery? You mean the one that you use to flash cwm to flash a rom in order to not overwrite some binary so you're phone doesn't lose warranty?
stock recovery is the recovery you have when you buy the phone or just after you flash a stock rom.
If it's a full stock and the wipe was done during automatic upgrade then samsung has to release a solution. But will they?? Entropy has been battling so much and still are people that rush in and say: "replace as fast as you can with a ss"...... unbelieveble.
I think there are more that had the same problem but or aren't users of the WWW or just didn't realise that it was the bug. I'm sure that there are a number of devices that were already repaired by some ss WITHOUT knowledge, just a swap of the mb, new flash and new phone !! That makes the customer happy but doesn't solve the problem.
Ok, it must be hard to be without a phone (i know) but if you are willing to sacrifice some time to solve a WORLDWIDE problem i'm pretty sure that you'll be considered a hero.....
As i read here Entropy did already knows of this so just hang in there....
Wish a swift and good solution not just for you but for all....
beco
Follow Entropy that is best way.
Can you plz change title of thread?
it will be easy n better to find if it will

Recovery is the system you get by pressing "vol up", power and menu at the same time at startup
Stock is the one that you get out of the box, looks like this:
http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=867265stock.png
CWM is installed with custom roms and CFRoot, looks kis this:
http://rootgalaxynote.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/backup-cwm-rooted-galaxy-note-3-690x431.jpg
You know which one you used ?
We just have to wait for the OP to report back, if it is not a false alarm. I mean, he has only 3 posts, could be anything. I hope he was on stock, but it smells like a noob not following the instructions. Forgive me if I'm wrong. In any case:
DO NOT SEND THE DEVICE to the service centre before contacting Entropy!
