I want to love this phone...another thread. - Epic 4G General

But considering how I have been treated by Samsung so far...is not looking good for the epic to stay in my pocket. In fact I'm looking at getting an Evo...sorry Epic. But your amazing screen and awesome keyboard and amazing hardware are worthless when you have a ****ty service backing it. Cough. Samsung. If you don't know what I'm talkin about go to my other thread here. I am still up for debate on keeping this phone though...decisions decisions...

Have you read the post on the EVO threads? You may be writing " I want to love this phone...another thread. " again

I love my Epic and patience is needed as this phone was just recently released. Samsung has too much at stake with the Galaxy S series to not support it. If you have no patience, then adios.

You bring up a point I thought about today. It's one thing to not support a phone on 1 carrier (Moment) but they would be insane to not support a phone that is on every major carrier.
I'm optimistic.

I returned my Epic today within my 30 day window, but not for the same reason as you want to tho!
Post 10/1 i'll be ordering another Epic under the new SERO Premium (500/$50) plan to help cushion any potential "buyer's remorse" i might have in the future.

haven't seen much talk on samsung galaxy s II

looks like quite a phone! i've had it out against samsung since i first bought the samsung moment for my wife and i (and had both of them swapped 3 times because of random data disconnections and no gps locks), but perhaps they've changed. what are your thoughts?
Because we talk about the EVO here.
do we know for sure this is coming to sprint? if so id say a fall launch date. ill pick one up if it does in fact come.
Haven't heard anything about this coming to Sprint.

I don't like the 'home' button. And wasn't this the one to kick off the lawsuit? I see it ... the similarities, if you will, but I meant more as a whole. This phone is supposed to pack a punch.

this is the general section. and the nexus & evo3d or any future phone that will dethrone the evo is worthy to talk about here. it's upgrade time for most of us and probably most of the devs including toast. nothing wrong with having a discussion.
Knowing Sprint, we will probably get a keyboard variation of that phone. Epic 2 or Epic __, maybe a new name entirely. EPIC 3D would be funny lol (1st Qwerty 3D phone )
It does seem impressive, Samsung seems to be cleaing up thier updating track record too. The only excuse I have of not buying it is the weaker XDA backing. Not to say there will be none but I prefer HTC + XDA.

This is what crApple is suing Samsung over:
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samm...n-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-units-this-year_id18520
The interesting part is the rumor that Eldar Murtazin spread this week in regards to the Apple-Samsung lawsuit, about a Samsung Galaxy S3 upgrade that is coming late fall, with 4.5" edge-to-edge Super AMOLED Plus display of high resolution, and no hardware keys. These same features Apple is said planning to introduce in the iPhone 6, which will appear many months after the SGS 3, which must have annoyed Cupertino to no end.

Essentially, Samsung developed features for the Galaxy S3 that Stevie boy wanted to release in the iPhone 6, so Apple is trying to slow/stop Samsung in court, so Apple can be the first one to release those features.
I'm sure Sprint will get a variant of this, its the successor to the Epic 4G. I just hope that this time it doesn't have a hardware keyboard. I think this phone would be the best choice for the next Nexus phone.

Why would anybody buy a Vibrant brand new right now? It's been out almost a year, that's like comparing a 2010 Explorer with a 2011, which is a totally different body style. Of course T-Mo will keep the Vibrant priced high, because they want to sell the Sensation and upgrade as many data plans as they can.
As far as the Vibrant being epic, it overclocks well, has a great screen, awesome form factor, and does it's job nicely. That's pretty epic to me. But if you don't like it, hey, you don't have to. Go grab your sensation and join their forum

Getting Out Before It's Too Late!!

Bought an Inspire 4G a few days ago and just sold my Epic today for $300. I figure I'm extremely lucky as someone who loves development and has seen it completely die out on the Epic. Farewell and hopefully everyone else can unload their's before it's too late. Goodbye whiny babies and attention-starved developers (the few that are left around here). It was (somewhat) fun while it lasted. Sorry that Samsung is only half as good at phones as it is at televisions.

I somewhat liked that phone too. No support = boring though. We have no decent developers left because the mods here and the ****ty phone owners have run them all off and Samsung's very poor customer support amount to ****. Time to move onto a more user/developer friendly machine. Sorry you're loyalty leaves you in the past.

Oh yeah, and its your not you're.
Too late for what? Does your phone spontaneously combust once all XDA development for it comes to a stand still? Well hell, thanks for the warning.
There has been a whole bunch of new stuff over the past couple weeks, so I apparently am not seeing where the development has become dead.
I for one am really pumped about this forum. Thanks to everyone here I rooted my phone and flashed my first rom. Going to flash my first modem tonight. I think the developers are all quality too. I'm running SRF right now and find it to be nearly flawless. I'm new to all this, and maybe I'm wrong, but a few quality devs seems better to me, as a noob, than trying to weigh through a bunch of potentially crappy ROMs just because a phone is popular. I'm very pleased about my first experience with rooting, and will likely listen closely to the suggestions of people from this forum when its time for a new phone.
Enjoy whatever you got going though, I wish you well.

Did you spend hours upon hours developing roms, mods, kernels and themes then providing then free of charge to ungrateful blood sucking users like yourself?

Samsung will stay committed to responsibility for its customers as much as
possible."

EVO was easily replaceable as there are plenty of high end slate styled phones on Sprint. Epic on the other hand fills a niche. Honestly, I've noticed a lot of Epic users out in the wild lately. I used to never see anyone else with my phone and now it's been every place I go I seem to see another person with an Epic. Even at a year and a half old, it holds it own and even bests a lot of the newer mid-range phones out there.
To the novice consumer the Epic is the cheaper keyboarded style galaxy s2. The Og Epic never got much advertisement, but since the Epic Touch has a lot of people head in to check it out, see the Og Epic, are like "oh cool it's the same phone with a keyboard and cheaper" and bam, it becomes more popular then when it was released.

I am sort of in the same boat. In spite of SERO, opening a line in a family VZW account would cost about the same or less and I never go beyond 3GB of data use (that with double data promotion). Went to VZW store, played with the Nexus, but despite being well aware of specs, updates, ICS etc just did not feel that it was that much better than what I already have. Also, realized that I will really miss my KB, and the dev community is still in its infancy for Nexus @XDA.

A lot of my friends had gotten Epics and I was the sore thumb who went out and got an Evo Shift back last April. That phone went kaput on me and I decided to hop on the epic-wagon after using other ones first hand. I won't ever get a non keyboard phone, and the epic is the best of its class...Its the ONLY one of its class now. Sprint has no plans to release any other keyboard phones yet, which is highly disappointing. We might see one when LTE comes around, but...in the mean time, I'm happy that the Epic has such an awesome team of devs here (Things over in the evo shift forum really started to die!).
Long story short: Long live the epic.
I think the possibility of us getting ics is pretty good actually. It used to seem out of reach but now the hyped nexus update has been halted and Sammy is posting new rdf files, not to mention the increasing amount of epic buyers lately. If you ask me, I think the probability of us getting ics is higher than many think. Our phone will easily support it.

Hasta La Vista

The Epic was my first smartphone, so it will always have a special place in my heart, however, the time has come for me to get a new device. I got the Optimus G yesterday and it is amazing. I don't have the Epic anymore, so I probably won't do a whole lot more for it unless someone asks me to make a ROM that is unique from the other ROMs available (IE: I will not spend time making a ROM that looks and behaves nearly identically to CM, considering that we already have great CM builds). The loss of the keyboard is surprisingly not as difficult as I would have guessed. I hope to see some of you over at those forums, but to the ones who I don't, I will miss you.

I've been here since the Epic came out, and it's been a good run. My Epic's usb port has finally succumbed to the ravages of time, making it nearly impossible to charge - looks like I'll be moving on the gs3 forums soon. Usually, an upgrade is entirely a good thing, but I will definitely miss this community. I'm not trying to hijack Jake's thread, but I haven't done enough to warrant a thread of my own, lol
So back on topic - xboxfanj, thanks for everything you did to make an awesome phone even better.
My dying Epic spent its last several months of life running CM7 with your original Crespo patch, and that is what will remain on it as it is powered down for the last time. Thanks again, and best of luck in all your future endeavors

Go with an Optimus if you can. My dad has the S3 and it is nice, but worse than the OG. I'll miss all you. Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Good luck to all of you.

It seems like it is getting closer and closer to when I have to turn out the lights on this forum.

Hold off until the day after the GS4 comes out. I'll be gone then.

I may be seeing you soon. Lol want to jump ship from this sprint bandwagon so bad.
Thanks Xbox for all the amazing ROMs, support, and dedication making this phone last far beyond any other phones of it's time. Love seeing people's brand new phones with inferior software than that of my 2 year old epic! Keep on keeping on man. Optimus G folks don't know what they are about to get

Kenny was refering to the discussion of other phones.. Not the Goodbye in general to Xboxfanj.
Verizon 4g lte is amazing to say the least. SwiftKey Flow is now my way of getting around the physical keyboard i still miss from my epic 4g.Even after i gave it to my girlfriend i knew I'd never have the same feeling of waiting for my favorite roms to update and getting new kernels for ICS that was the climax of the Epic for sure.. really appreciate the work you've done on the Epic Xbox, I hope the Optimus community enjoys your future work as you continue to improve their phones .

By the time I saw your suggestion, I already had my S3, so I didn't get a chance to check out the Optimus. I like the S3 though, so it's all good (trying to swap phones now would be more of a hassle than the account holder is willing to go through, lol). I must say that while I will always miss my hardware keyboard, the larger screen on the S3 makes it easier to live with. I'm rooted but holding out with the stock rom for a bit so I can properly assess the improvements on the custom roms (and so I can finish this semester without more distractions - playing with a new phone is more than enough of a distraction already lol)
Kenny - I think I'll be headed for the People's Rom first
