omg...It wont boot pass the Vibrant screen! Help! - Vibrant General

Hey yall......im having an issue...im not really sure if its the ROM's fault or what.... but this is whats going on...
1. I was using the Hybrid r3 rom
2. Then I saw Bionix release his Rom so i tried it. plus i installed the Lag Fix..
3. Everything works fine except for the random shut down every so often... wasn't a big deal
.....4 days later....(TODAY)
4. im on my way to work and I noticed my phone was off....so I did a battery pull and reboot..
5. The phone wouldnt go past the Big S screen that says Galaxy S...
6. So i booted to Clockwork and did a wipe data and wipe cache and tried to flash Vibrant 9
7. It didnt work because it said,
Coping Files.....
E: Failure at Line 365:
copy_dir PACKAGE : data DATA:
Installation aborted
8. Soooooo, I wiped again....then i went to use a Nandroid Back up of Vibrant 9 and this is what it said
Checking MD5 sums.....
MD5 mismatch!
9. Soooo, I wiped again....and tried to flash Vibrant_Hybrid_r3.zip and It flashed all da way....
10. So i rebooted.....and it STILL wouldnt go past the Vibrant screen....but it still made the boot up sound and the buttons lit up but it was Still on the Vibrant screen.....
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP......PLEASE!!! IM ABOUT TO CRY!
AND PLEASE DONT COME TO MY POST BEING A ASSHOLE! ALL I NEED IS HELP! IF U DONT WANNA HELP PLEASE JUST DONT!!!! Gee Wizz!

Wow, it sounds like you are having the same issues that some people had with the beta VOODOO mod. Like your data partition is damaged. Here's the thread, maybe what they did to fix their phones might help.

adb shell
su
busybox dd if=/dev/zero of=/data/dataimg bs=1024 count=1048576 (this transfer takes roughly 3 minutes, be patient!)
busybox mknod /dev/loop0 b 7 0
busybox losetup /dev/loop0 /data/dataimg
busybox mkfs.ext2 /dev/loop0
mkdir /data/data1
mv /system/bin/used /system/bin/userinit.sh
reboot
^^^^^ That is tha ONLY extra thing i did.......The Lag Fix..........oh yeah, I also put the stock lock screen on it too....
I dont even know what happened.......BUT!!!!!!!!! I just used that ODIN thingy and Im back in business!!!! yesssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn whining kids

U didnt even help me save my phone!.......smh...damn...

No offense, but if you're so worried about having an expensive phone, and you've read all of the xda disclaimers stating that results may vary, why would u even root?
I follow this forum because I work for the wireless industry and I like to keep up with some of the things are customers talk about, and even I dont feel comfortable rooting my HD2 or Vibrant yet.

It looks a little beyond my capability... not at all experienced in any of it
For what it's worth:
My G2 is in for a repair. The online repair tracker says that it has been repaired and the next step is 'software upgrade'.
This would seem to imply that the upgrade is imminent, however, given T-Mobile's legendary incompetence and dishonesty.......

I have something that might be worth trying if you wanna take a shot at rooting again Come onto the VillainROM irc (go to www.villainrom.co.uk and click IRC to get a web client) if you wanna give it a go. I can't test as I don't have a 2.1 unrootable phone. But if you understand that clouds might fall from the sky, and that your phone could spontaneously combust (have a fire extinguisher ready ), and you are still willing, give me a shout over there.
The reason I have not posted this is that it isn't tested, so there's no way I'm putting up details till someone has at least made sure their phone doesn't die.

Umm. Not sure what you mean
If you come onto IRC (not WC ), I have something that I can give you to try. It is a zip file. You put it onto your computer and then you run a few ADB commands via a batch file. It should (not guaranteed as it's not tested yet) install patched recovery. You can nandroid etc. from there and flash custom ROM if it works.
We don't need to take your phone away It's just a little file you run that might manage to get recovery installed.
But it might also kill your cat or cause World War III. It's untested, but I am not aware of any other hopes.
Pulser (on chat.freenode.net #villainrom btw)
yeah they are rolling out their update in the Netherlands, runs smoothly.
As for no root access, well I dont bother to much about it, Most custom roms (with all the respect) are not my cup of tea. Some things didn't work the way they should be, and with all those roms I couldn't get my mobile tv to work.
Edit : Mobile TV doesn't work in this rom either, there's something wrong with the HTC updates...

Holy crap have I learned a bunch today!

So my learning experience started when I decided to do Ryanza's "unlagfixme". It ran completely fine until it decided to restart itself. Once it restarted, it got to my "S" booting screen and then my screen turned black, and nothing else happened, but my bottom buttons would light up when i touched my screen. So i took the battery out and put it back in and restarted. Same thing over and over.
Here's where it was time to research. Only way i knew about getting to nandroid to do a restore was through rom manager. So after a little research, i found out about booting into recovery with adb (adb reboot recovery). Did that, and clicked reinstall packages, great! got into nandroid and was able to restore.
Then I got the crazy Idea to flash Vibrant6 from Eugene. Did that succesfully through nandroid then wanted a lag fix, so i flashed Ryanza's lag fix again to vibrant6. Phone hosed again! now it would only pop the vibrant screen and hang there. Time to do research again; this time i didnt have nandroid flashed so it was a little more difficult than before.
after hours of research to fix my phone I came across a post of how to use odin step by step. learned to boot into download mode, set up odin, flash...Did that, and odin would hang on cache.rfs, onto more RESEARCH...turns out i could install without a pit and that did the trick. after i was able to flash that ROM i was then able to get rom manager, boot into nandroid and backup my most recent backup (right after installing vibrant6) and then restore all my apps through titanium backup.
I feel today aside from the ****less scares...it has been a blessing day because I have learned: How to boot into recovery with adb, boot into download, use adb, use odin, flash a rom through odin and clockworkmod, restore TB backups, etc. After having the phone a little over 2 weeks and not knowing anything about android, i think these are great improvements and are things i didn't know how to do.
Today has been a great newb learning day. I guess you force yourself to learn things when you most need them huh! All the tools needed are here, more than likely whatever is happening to you has happened to someone else before. Search is your best friend. However, if I can help some of the other newbs to get up to speed, I'd be glad to. We have all been there right?
I'm so happy to be a part of this community!
Congrats, sounds like it was fun and nerve wracking. Having come from a G1, I was a little surprised at how relatively hard it is to flash a new rom to this phone, I guess the G1 spoiled me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to take the same journey that you've been through at some point, but for now I'm just gonna enjoy it.

I did not. I tried all three ryanza fixes (update.zip, batch, one-click) and none of them worked for me. Couldn't get the script on modaco to work for me. And everytime i undid the lagfix it crapped my phone out. So i nand'd back to pre lag fix and I'm still debating whether I will backup to stock+lag fix (really liked the snapiness, aside from quadrant scores), or to play with Vibrant6 for a while and see if it is as snappy as stock with the lagfix or better. still debating.

[Q] How to Lock up your Nexus one (please read)

I want to demonstrate to someone how the phone can get stuck on something like bootloader or failed rom installations.
I currently have a nexus one with the bootloader still locked (but rooted). I dont want to try anything and render the phone dead. So I want to know if there is a for sure way t put the phone in a mode where it looks as if it doesn't work, yet be able to recover from it easily. Asking for opinions first.
I still want to have my phone maintained such that the bootloader stays locked.
Thanks

Turning the phone off makes it look likes it doesn't work.
P.S why are you doing this though? Really? Is it to make someone think their phone is broken so you can buy it cheap then fix it and keep it?

Didn't think of that. Maybe i should.
No, to make someone understand the process that I go through in updating the phone so that they can stop bothering me while Im doing it.
Edit:
I just realized that your post was so condescending. I asked a question and phrased it accordingly, to "demonstrate."
Don't you just love it when people express their opinion not knowing the entire story.
Try opinionating for the better, the next time.
And yeah, don't forget to help out people every now and then.
Thanks for your HELP!

haha no worries
If i understand what you are asking, try backing up your rom, then flash completely different rom without wiping. That should by all accounts give you a bootloop.
Might be easier to have them watch some youtube vid's of flashing, rooting, unlocking, etc. They then should get the idea...
I would just nandroid and wipe my phone (I dunno how well that'd go I've never tried it but I don't see how it could totally brick your phone, who knows!)
I don't know if you've got anything flashed on your phone, but if not flash a recovery then yeah, flash any different rom without wiping and you should get boot loops.

For the record, I think this is a fair question, and not particularly condescending.
OP: You are asking a legit question, but you have to admit it's a bit of a strange request. You can't blame people for wondering what you're up to, I thought the same thing. Not that you were scamming someone, but couldn't understand why you'd want to do this (I get it now... sort of). It's an impersonal forum, so there shouldn't be any hard feelings.
One thing that constantly caused bootloops in the CyanogenMod forum was to flash the Froyo gapps with a Gingerbread install. Bootloop every time.
You could probably flash a theme that wasn't designed for Gingerbread. I'd bet that would give you a bootloop (especially the further you go back... flash a cupcake theme for a G1 onto an N1 )
Maybe I'm just being cynical but it seems to me that the OP is doing something shady here. He wants to do something that makes no sense and then immediately jumps down the throat of someone who basically calls him for it. His reasoning for why he wants to do this nonsensical thing is also pretty nonsensical. I'd guess he's trying to scam something from someone.

Yes, I completely agree with your first statement. YOU ARE BEING CYNICAL!!!
Ok as an avid lover of my phone (nexus one), I have the right to ask the means of breaking this phone if i'm going to root it and install a ROM which is only supported by the community that helps develop it (that includes primarily folks over at XDA). If you think I'm upto no good, too bad. Assume the worst, do whatever the F*** you want. All I'm trying to do is show my cousin what a bootlooped phone looks like. And apparently each time I am in the process of doing it, he wants to use the pc. He likes killing all the running apps when he's on the PC, and i need to stop him from screwing up something that can potentially f*** up my phone. I often switch from Stock N1 to CM7 to blandroid, and thankfully i follow directions which is why my phone hasn't boot looped til date.
Yes I jumped throat on the 1st person who responded, but look at my response before jumping throat. I didn't really think of the response as condescending, until had posted my answer, hence the edit.
Don't bother posting such crappy posts unless you want to feel like you're getting scolded by the DA's office for wrongful accusation.
C
Well you cannot blame people for coming up with these various speculations. My 2 cents, but you just redirect your energy towards your cousin more rather then get angry over forum post.
The way I see your situation is this. The PC used to flash your phone, who is the owner? If you own it, tell him to wait like a good little boy or he can GTFO of your computer, ban him. Or if the PC belongs to him, maybe it's time you suck it up and respect when and how he wants to use his PC, and flash your phone using another instead. Or maybe get a job and buy your own?
Time to man up. Either you tell him to GTFO of your PC, or you GTFO of his. Simple solution to what I see to a simple matter. No need to complicate things by semi-bricking your phone.

but I just get "error: device not found"
Im also trying

but now I get message
"sending 'recovery' (3972 KB)... FAILED (remote: not allow)"
Please I need help, how can I solve this
Thanks for any response....

if I try "adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img" I just get the same message as in Fastboot

Have you tryed making a gold card for the phone??
BTW sorry to ask have you got all the device drivers installed (if on windows)
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab using Tapatalk
I have a Nexus one so I do have the sdk. Never really installed any other drivers but before I flashed the wrong recovery I could do "adb" - commands, thats how I flashed the wrong recovery. So I think I have the right driver, otherwise I would not be able to do any "adb" commands, right? Please tell me if I am wrong and where I can download HTC hero drivers if that is the case.
have not tried making a gold card but I will Google it now. Please point me in the right direction if possible.
Thanks again for helping me.
Look at rooting guides for hero for gold card and sounds like u have the right drivers.
If nothing works try download the HTC Hero updater from the HTC site then reroot the device.

I have downloaded htc sync, could not find htc hero updater. But it does not find the phone... Trying too look further into "gold card", not sure exactly what it does but It seems that I have to install apps... But as it is right now... I can only access fastboot/Hboot... cannot enter recovery or boot the phone to install apps.
I'm sorry but I can offer no help, but just wanted to offer my support that this must really suck to be going through. I hope these clever people can help you out. Have you posted this same question in the CDMA hero forum as well? they have even more active devs there I think and might also be able to help you out.

so out of curiosity, if development isn't your actual interest in life... any idea what you do want to do in a few years? Like at your age I was already an accomplished classical violinist and knew that being a musician was not only something I was particularly talented at but also really really loved to do - instant career choice. It just turns out that I can make a lot more money as a developer LoL which I also am good at and also love doing!
But yea - you're obviously quick thinking and the curious type who likes to figure out and solve problems, so I'll be interested to find out what you end up doing in life.
I wonder if we'll both be on here for years chatting about the latest octo-core phones and complaining about how we can't get GPS and CAMERA to run properly when we try to get android 2017 to run properly on our "old" hardware LoL

No. Only downgrading will work. IMO, gingerbread for our phone will never achieve full root and S-off... But I had to downgrade and its not that hard! Go here to downgrade. good luck.
Thanks if I helped
Lol u like your thanks dont you

All of that should take 30minutes to an hour lol. Not days or weeks
The galaxy s series is so easy to root and flash ....all done without the need for a computer

Yeah but the mytouch 4g root with a computer is so much more worth it

No, after Gingerbread update you have to use a computer with ODIN to root, and once rooted, it's much more painful to flash the idiotic partition system of Galaxy S, requiring you to reflash bootloaders and kernels from PC before flashing the actual ROMs or even for backup restorations, being unable to flash kernel from recovery - because kernel contains the recovery. Actually, if there is a phone that requires PC almost for any type of flashing - that would be Galaxy S.
IMHO, as stated many times - if you can't follow a simple guide to downgrade and root your MT4G, you shouldn't be rooting anyway.
Lmao what a tard
That reply isnt even worthy of a responce....buckle up

@jack_r1 makes a very valid point. rooting this phone when it had 2.2.x was STUPID easy. Easy and quick enough that i had it rooted before i left the T-Mobile Store, when i bought the phone.
The new method is simple. you downgrade then you use one of two VERY simple methods to root your phone.
If you cannot follow directions and need to rely on a one click root. Either based from the phone or on the PC then you shouldn't be messing with SU access.

That's what a clueless person would say, I guess. If you had ever tried to flash anything on Galaxy S type phone, you'd know. Pretty much all the ROM flashing instructions contain ODIN versions and instructions that require flashing at least bootloaders and mostly kernels too (see "Flash a stock Gingerbread ROM" step as an example), for a reason. Moreover, you can try flashing Gingerbread MIUI and then reverting back without ODIN. Good luck.
And whoever messed with rooting and flashing one phone, if he didn't just have to click "root" button on 1-click-rooter of some kind, but at least to work out ADB, wouldn't be afraid of rooting MT4G. I guess your mouth is going far ahead of your knowledge. It's good that rooting became complicated on all phones, because it keeps dummies from messing with things they don't understand.
This is what happens when one is having a friendly conversation with another and a third party joins in with a ” im better than you complex” and runs his/her trap and makes insults for no apperent reason all in his/her very first post .....if you cant be nice and put in helpful info without insult stay out kiddo......or buckle up and enjoy the ride....I dont care either way I deal with dumbasses on a daily basis and your not gonna find my nerve
lol
I dont let children and childish adults get to me lit-alone on a keyboard
Yes you can root and flash a galaxy s without ever touching a comp.
Yes in some cases odin is required, inwhich involves using a comp.....omg Im so sorry ..... Although that was further along than the conversation I was having with invasion....lol you just wanted to come here and play the ”all knowing” part and the ”im also a cyber tough guy” part wich are both laughable and pathetic at the same time.
Now you can stop your childish anticks and allow hair to grow on your balls or continue crying like a little girl.....either way im done with you youve already waisted enough of my time inwhich im certain you were not worth! :-D
Go ahead, feel free to make another attempt to make yourself feel big and bad.....after all thats what you came here to do in the first place.....and seeins as im giving you the oppertunity to have the last word.......nows your chance to turn it around or fail as you so boldly have.
Have a nice day kiddo
Or should I rephrase:
You posted without searching, one of, if not the most posted question on the forum. Then, when you got the response that indicated you as a not-so-brave person, you tried to start bragging to lift your self-esteem, taking this thread off track. Then, when you understood you've got caught bragging, you've read the regular line that shows on these forums 3 times a week - "if you can't follow the guide, you shouldn't be rooting anyway" as a personal insult - and got all cocky and started name calling. When you got paid with the same money, you still keep being cocky.
The funny thing is that I didn't write to catch you on your bragging, I couldn't care less. I just can't stand wrong info, which you happened to be spilling, so I corrected. This is not a private chatroom, there are no "friendly conversations" here. This is XDA-Developers, not XDA-group-hugging-team.
Waste of time, indeed.
Grow up.

Thank god this is just a loaner phone.
I guess its true.....that with cheap low quality phones comes cheap low quality followers.....have a nice life lol
...why are you not banned yet?
everything Jack_R1 said is absolutely true.
he is a very great helper, and many people respect him. if you don't have the quality of respect, then i'm sorry, but you must not have been taught any morals.
i COMPLETELY disagree with anything you said. Samsung makes the worst products out there. i mean seriously? WHY DO I NEED TO FLASH MY GALAXY S VIA ODIN OR WHATEVER GARBAGE TO GET A NEW ROM??? that's plain crap! pointless. you must not have very good experience with HTC devices.
let me show you how HTC does it:
Rooting
very easy and simple on most devices, main thing is to obtain S-off.
Flashing
even easier.
this procedure goes for every HTC device out there:
reboot to recovery
make a nandroid backup
wipe
flash
DONE.
what about Samsung?
oooh first you gotta flash the "bootloader" or whatever crap, then the "modem", then this, then that via ODIN, and then you gotta do this this and this, THEN you finally reboot into recovery and flash.
i will let you decide which you think is easier, but don't go about saying that i have "no idea what i'm talking about" because i do. my dad has a Galaxy S, and flashing to that device is complete crap. i don't know WHERE you got that info that "flashing to a Galaxy doesn't require a computer". BECAUSE IT DOES.
stupid ODIN...
anyway, back on point. if you think you're so great and pro, maybe YOU can make an easier way to root 2.3.4 Stock MYTOUCH. cause i think a lot of us would appreciate it. maybe then, you'll be worthy enough to be here. because all you've done so far, is fill up xda with your retarded garbage.
have a nice day.
