I'm looking for a spell check for the hardware keyboard on the epic. I've read about the HTC_IME keyboard supposedly doing spell checking for hardware keyboards, but am unable to get this to work. Any suggestions or advice?

I have cyanogen's rom version 3.4.6 running on the g1 I currently use touch input onscreen keyboard included, which i believe is the hero htc_IME keyboard. I love how it automatically saves new user terms to the dictionary, but occasionally it will save a term that i just spelled wrong. under my phones settings in locale and text there is the user dictionary option where i can add or delete the terms. Unfortunately this option only shows the user dictionary terms from my android keyboard and not the touch input. i have looked everywhere but i cannot find a way to view and delete the user dictionary terms for touch input..... can anybody please help me?!?!?!?!
In for answer..Been wondering the same
The dictionary is used internally by the keyboard. You can not modify it (add or remove word) unless you know the dictionary file format. But from my understanding the dictionary file format is private proprietary of Tegic software company. There's no public document about this file format

As previous stated there isn't a way to access the dictionary for Touch Input. Your best bet is to uninstall it via Manage Applications and reinstall it. Get the zip here. Push the library file. You can push the apk but it might not fit depending on your phone set up. You can simply put the apk on the root of your SD and run it using Astro or whatever file management app you're using. In the future it would behoove you to be VERY careful on adding words to Touch Input.
Thank you for the help i really appreciate it..... i'm not sure i care enough about the misspelled words to go through with deleting the app and reinstalling it...i sure wish there was an option so i could turn off the auto add feature.... oh well, i guess this is the price i pay for using a keyboard not made for my phone... thanks again!
I dont want to create another thread for a similar question. On the HTC IME how do we STOP the hardware keyboard from trying to "correct" my words as i type them? Its driving me insane.

Theres an option in the settings (gear icon key next to comma key) to turn it off completely, settings- text input and there you will see spell correction and prediction .. or whenever it automatically corrects the word hit back space asap and it will uncorrect it
I posted where the files are and how to reset it here.
However, I do not know about editing those files, you can try if you want.
So updated to 1.6
Idk why i just did
i figured i dont have any roms on my mytouch or its not even rooted so everything should work fine
After the update finished installing, i got an error in the home screen about touch input, it kept popping up every minute or so, the same message, and when i would try to text the keyboard wouldn't pop up, i would get that same error, so i had to disable touch input from the settings, now it works and i dont got errors
btw this is the error i got
Sorry!
The application Touch Input (Process com.htc.android.htcime) has stopped unexpectedly. Please Try again
but is there anyway around this
i really liked the touch input keyboard because of the fact you could add your own words to the prediction list and you cant do that with Touch Pal
thanks
oops wrong post
I'm thinkin try a wipe or maybe reinstall if the data wipe don't work. Are you sure its for the MT3G and not the G1? I'm not sure yet if there is a difference. I'm just throwin some ideas out there.

I have read that other people with 1.6 have been having the same problem with the HTC keyboard. So I think you are out of luck there, until HTC updates their sense software to 1.6 and somebody pulls the keyboard off their updated phone and puts it online.
The stock keyboard lets you add words to the prediction list. Also this softkeyboard will let you do so as well, and it should work on 1.6.

No, there are two. The HTC Keyboard for Donut was made available today:

And the other keyboard I mentioned definitely has the phone keypad and lets you add words to the prediciton list. I think it works for 1.6, not sure really...

I dont understand why HTC didn't just use the Desire's keyboard. Instead just added really annoying arrows, and in result I find myself constantly hitting these arrows instead of the space or enter keys. Typing is a mess.
Well, no longer. Just wanted to let you guys know jonasl's modded htc keyboard works PERFECTLY. NO MORE ARROWS. YAY!

how do you navigate without a track pad?
You obviously missed the Swype guide >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687056

Actually Swype was the first thing I tried. But its not for me. I can type fast using swype but faster on a qwerty. Also, I am constantly typing in different languages and sometimes I simply cannot rely on any kind of prediction.

I realize this is kind of weird, but have you tried just using the Swype keyboard like a normal keyboard? for some reason I feel like it is easier to use than the other keyboard that way. And you could always practice with swyping, you might get pretty good at it!

I did! But sometimes I move so fast between keys it actually thinks I'm swiping. Plus It would still try to "correct' words that were typed in another language into english, no matter how accurately I touched each button.

You might try Shapewriter out. I believe you can add custom libraries to it, so you could add other languages you type in the same file as your English library.
How is swype for dealing with words that aren't necessarily regularly part of the english language? I tend to use my phone for searching for device model numbers for example, and sense annoys me somewhat because it autocorrects words that aren't actually words but model nomenclatures.

good, you can add words to the swype dictionary by typing it in and pushing the "swype key"

You must be really slow at Swype if you're faster with QWERTY. @[email protected]
I also like SmartKeyBoard Pro which is more IPHONE like for some.
But bottom line folks is that you have choices. If this were an IPHONE and you didn't like the keyboard what options for you have? That is the main point of arguement between the two camps.
Both have their good points and bad points. We are not required to buy either. We can go back to the Motorola Razr Ver(xx) if we wanted to.
If the new IPHONE had at least a 3.8 or 4.0 screen I would use my upgrade and get one to have. But I am very happy with the EVO and I look foward to Froyo 2.2 update that has everything working on it.
Hi all,
I have a rooted SGS and I put a ROM in to allow me to read and type in arabic, but the person who made the rom didnt include swype! how do i install it again as its no longer in my application list.
I have tried a few APKs but they throw a force close error.
THanks for your help
Are you sure it isn't there? I think Swype keyboard is part of all SGS firmwares.
Try the following: go to Locale and text in the the Settings. If you can see the option "Swype" under "Text settings" that should mean you've got the keyboard. Then you can go to any place where you can input some text; tap-and-hold the input area so that you get a menu. Select the option "Input method" and you should be able to select the keyboard type.
Good luck
I already tried this, the only keyboards available are the MobiDiv one (which really sucks) and the samsung one its definately not there ... i mean say someone uninstalls it by accident how do they go about putting it back? :S

hi all,
this link is swype and it worked perfect on my galaxy S incase someone else needs it.
i saw today complete arabized samsung galaxy s in Kuwait but the price wa a bit expensive compared to UK/Us pricing
there isn't an official place to download a ROM from other regions like how HTC do ?
Coming from a Blackberry one of my favorite features is the "autotext" you can assign a single key on the keyboard to automatically type whole sentences for you. I've only been playing around with Andriod for a day or so now and haven't found a way to something like this yet. I'd like for it to work both with the physical keyboard and the software keyboards. Has anyone seen anything like this out there?
I haven't been able to find anything like that either, but I sure miss it. I first got introduced to it on my sidekick, so I could make u = you, r = are, y = why, etc. I could write like a skript kiddie, but still look normal when I wrote. I REALLY really miss those shortcuts. You'd think there'd be an app out for that by now. Maybe there is and I missed it.
I don't know how i'm gonna be able to text with out nearly every letter on my keyboard was assigned to something. I found http://www.appbrain.com/app/firekeys-auto-text/com.webstandard.firekeys but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
You can use "Smart Keyboard Pro", they have a built-in AutoText function that applies to both the physical and soft keyboards. Been using it since I switched over from the Blackberry as well.

Thanks that sounds exactly like what we are looking for. Can you tell me how well the software keyboard compares to say the stock android one.
