I didn't do my due diligence and missed the fact that sound volume is awful and there's stuff you can do to improve it but my Elf blows me out of the house by comparison.
Otherwise, depending on your use, it's a great shirt pocket phone. It has other faults -- For example, keeping the battery charged will probably be a daily chore -- but I was able to overcome them often with the help of this forum.
As always, it just depends on what how you will use it. If I needed a business phone, I'd look else where.

Ok, thanks for your quickly answer, I will think about that.

few developers...
Personally, I love my mini... it doesn't freeze and lag like diamond 1 and 2...
love the capacitive touch screen, and it has a reasonable size...
the only thing bothering me is the lack of developers working on it.... I mean there is only one custom ROM so far!!

There are two: Tom's and MaryOne

Also, Rudy, there are a number of tweaks and utility apps that are compatabile with the mini that are discussed in other forums. For example, I learned how to disable the volume rocker from a post in the HD Form. It looks like there's very little interest in the MIni (and there may be), but other winmo devices might be the key to a specific problem with the mini.

I like my Mini very much! It's a very good device if you compare price/quality That's very important to me, because I can't buy with a contract in my country. Sh*t-law...

how old is this phone?

HD is over-rated ?

OK at the risk of starting a flame war I want to ask for some objective feedback on the HD. I tried the HD in a shop today for about 20 minutes and I was quite disappointed. (I have a HTC tytn so I used my experience over the last 18 months with that as a reference.). My brief conclusions
(a) The screen is big with a lot of detail as everyone says but its not as bright as the iPhone, G1 or blackberry Storm. Also the blacks are a bit murky so the constrast is not as good as the iPhone, G1 or the Storm.
(b) The interface felt very "laggy" with lots of freezing. (I've subsequently found a thread here on XDA-Developers where there are many compaints of freezes for several seconds - the unit I tried in the shop belonged to the Sales guy and had been up and running in less than 1 day with nothing extra installed on it - I ended up showing the sales guy how to do some things ! ) Certainly TF3D was no way as "slick" as the iPhone or the G1. When trying to browse the web the HD I perfered the G1 when if on the HD I could see more !
(c) One of my requirements is basic operations should be possible with one hand. The lack of hardware buttons and a D-pad / trackball or scroller seems to make that difficult? For example, it was difficult to take a decent close up picture of someone as you have to press the screen which moves the HD and so causes a loss of focus. On the third attempt I gave up trying to take a decent picture.
(d) For such a big screen TF3D makes inefficient use of the screen. I was particularly disappointed with the music player. I got the impression that rather than focus on functionality HTC really wanted to make things look good.
Overall I was dissappointed. I really want to get rid of my Wm5 based Tytn but it looks like I might have to look at something else
Please convince me otherwise !
Can those of you who've had real experience (I.e. for than a couple of days - where you are in the honeymoon period) provide some feedback on the HD?
not going to convince you to change. i suggest you stick with the Tytn and you'll save yourself a lot of second guessing and heart ache. based on a-d above, the HD is not for you.
I played with the iPhone for 20 minutes and hated it... But when I tried the HD for about 20 minutes I loved it.
What the hek every now and then someone comes and start his own comparison of HD to Iphone!!!!
IPHONE for many of us is Cr***ap ...
You have already started the thread by painting such as prefect picture of iPhone. If your requirements are better met by that, just go get yourself an iPhone. Everyone person's requirements are different. For me, iPhone does not meet my need and HD does. If you want to know why, go to this thread and read every post there by myself.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443900
No point in flaming him (I have an Hermes as well and have a lot of questions about HD vs Touch Pro for instance)
It is really interesting to read people's opinion, may it be positive or negative to help many potential users chose with all cards in hand
Stick with your TyTn .... and wait for the next year 2009 devices.
For sure HD broughr fresh blood to the WinMo device, but thats not enough.
I am pretty sure, 2009 will be very interesting for mobile device (WinMo 6.5, Tegra?)
I have N95 for 15 Months and i thought i would never change phone again till iPhone 3G came out so i decided to upgrade.
At the same time my brother just bought Touch Diamond and I have to admit that I really hate the Diamond since the first few mins of playing with it. Laggy.. Sloppy.. Jerky.. Slowly.. Whatever u called it, Diamond has it all.
But now my brother decide to get a Touch HD, hoping that it will lift up our feeling some way some how, and he is right.
He got a phone last week and i have to say.. "It is in a different league with the iPhone"
Now i have to order another one for myself. Hope it will arrive soon ^^
Sorry but you are not right
By the way - the iPhone is indeed better because of the better OS
But also the HF Screen has not such a good contrast and has moires from different view angles ...
when you work for some days with the HD the iPhone screen shows pixels.
The HD screnn with th perfect resolution is much smoother
The HTC Touchflow SW is after a long time on devices quite fast ans very good ( not as good as iPhone OS ) - the only lag is that many functions are missing and HTC does not offer updates regularly to older devices.
annoying & ridiculous...
sorry ... BUT it really IS annoying to read so many threads where people are just complaining that the HD 'doesnt meet this and that and...' - whats the use in it ?! Everyone needs different things in a device, you wouldn't want my kind of shoes or trousers or car or whatever!!
So I don't give a s*** what anybody else has to say about the HD - I tested it for MYSELF, I found it to be excellent for me, I bought it two weeks ago, I do lots of flatrate-HSDPA'ing, business use 12 hours/day, permanent exchange sncy'ing, blablabla...my HD truely rocks. Simply said: theres nothing *I* miss - if you do, buy something you like.
First of all. Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm sorry that some of you seem to be overly defensive. What I am trying to get to the bottom of is that my short experience of the HD is at odds with the many many reviews of the HD on the web.
There are endless comparsions with the iPhone but I don't recall any mentioning the screen being not as bright or that the HD has a very "laggy" interface. The point is that the reviews hold up the iphone as the benchmark and generally give the impression that the HD is close in terms of touch sensitivity and better in terms of screen. I was therefore surprised when i got my hands on a unit to not get that impression in those areas. I am aware of the fact that the Iphone can't multi-task, has no FM radio, has locked down applications, video recording problems, poor support for MS office attachments etc etc. So I'm not that interested in it - its too restricted for me!
So what I'm trying to understand is why my, albeit, short experience is different.
So the questions remains guys.
Can you load a theme or change a setting to change the way the screen looks ?
(EagleSteve - I'm just reading that 49 page thread you refered to and I note the äuthor of the thread states - "I think Touchflo is just too "black" for me, not sure if it will run with a brighter skin or not, but I like the way PocketPlus makes a device look, much brighter" - So that suggests a possible fix to my concern of the screen being not as bright as I expected)
Is the lack of hardware buttons actually a problem or does the large touch screen make it a non issue in practice?
Do you have laggy behaviour ? Is there some App or setting which everyone loads to get rid of the "laggy" behaviour? For the me the real show-stopper is probably the laggy behaviour - I need to know how much of a problem it is in practice.
Thanks for the feedback
I don't know... my unit isn't laggy at all, tflo is flying, the only issue I have is about video playback. But this is going to be solved with the next CorePlayer release, I hope.

The laggy behaviour obviously depends on what ROM you have.
I for myself do not experience lags on my device.
EDIT: As for the themes. Giznetic has already made some. Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451731

What about iPhone? 1 lonely button is that enuff for u?

Hi Owen,
Well I'm not a HD user, I actually have a raphael. but my experience with this device was similar to yours when I first got it. In my experience my device was very laggy to start with. I ended up downloading a ROM and the speed is beautiful, I'm sure the HD will have the same and when this device is around as long as the raphael you will have some amazing ROMs if you already don't. Although it does frustrate me that our performance issues have to be solve by personal developers (who by the way do a marvellous job). So if you are happy flashing a ROM you will certainly get to a point you are happy with in regards to performance. it may however take you some time to do so
In regards to the button aspect, which was going to be my primary focus, the raphael has a few more buttons and a scroll wheel device. Having the extra buttons is frustrating, I have only had minimal (if any) use for them and only feel like they take up room on the device. If you are happy to not have a keyboard I wouldn't be too concerned on the lack of buttons.
Cheers

I bought the HD because I was sure it was the right device to answer my needs. One month after I'm still convinced it was a good choice.
But I'm even more convinced that there's just no interest in trying to convince other users that my phone is the one they need.
A consequence is the following: I'm not interested in being convinced that the HD was not good enough for me
The Touch HD has a very bright screen. Did you alter the settings, to turn off automatic backlight?
I don't find my HD laggy at all especially with the tweak that optimises the cache. Even out of the box I didn't find the HD laggy. Afterall it's only a phone and not your desktop PC...
Screen looks nice enough in my opinion. I can't convince you that it isn't over rated as after having one for a few weeks I feel it is nothing special.
For the people that say there is no point complaining, this is true if you don't own one I suppose. Although if a person did buy one because of the hype and it doesn't live up to it then I think they have every right to say why they feel they don't like it. I spent 500 quid on mine and I should be able to criticise things about it I don't like at that point.
If a person is happy with his device that's great but others that don't share that feeling are entitled to their views too.
Like I said, each has his own need and preference, so I can only summarise for you who iphone is not worthy of comparison to hd from my viewpoint only.
1. I like the hd screen and not iphone screen: because HD screen has the right level of sensitivity and supports stylus. Stylus is a critical requirements not only it is more user friendly to me, but also because it supports hand writing. Screen brightness of HD is completely adequate under bright sunlight.
2. I need availability of tomtom or similar software. Iphone does not have an acceptable navigation software.
3 I need desktop class word, spreadsheet, and presentation editing software, which iphone doesn't have.
4.I need better software keyboard than that iphone offer and winmo platform offers that.
5.I cannot live with iphone's battery design because I'd been stuck without battery. I do not want the bulk of a mobile charger.
6. the breath and depth of software in iphone is still not there yet.
7. I prefer HD's bigger screen.
8. I like having more buttons in HD rather than just one in iphone.
9. I like being able to customise. You don't like black? No problem. Use something like spb mobile shell, or change the skin and background of tf3d.
10.I like to have lots of choices when come to firmware or ROM. You don't have that with iphone. The ability to improve is very limited.
11.I like FM radio, I like cut and paste, I like all the little things which HD can do and iphone can't.
I like the build quality of iphone. I like it's browser. I like it's smoothness in displaying web pages more than Opera mobile. I like its multimedia capability.
I almost got an iphone.
For me, iphone is a very sexy women, and the temptation to marry her is great. But if I want someone who can manage the household, bring up the kids well, wise with finance, and kind to people, HD is the plain Jane whom can deliver.

Your Thoughts and Opinions Please

Hi all,
I have been using WM devices for a few years now and I guess you could say that I'm not really all that impressed. I started with the wizard and then the tytn/hermes. I have flashed roms numerous times and find the whole ordeal to be a bit tiring. It was somewhat of an adventure at first, but after a while I just want a phone that works right and doesn't take much work.
Is the X1 that phone? Is it a straight WM6 rom or has SE made its own enhancements to it? For a guy who just wants the phone to work well right out of the box and not to mess with it a whole lot, might this be the phone for me?
I very much appreciate any opinions you might share.
I have had my first WM device X1 for only about 4 months, but I totally agree. I had SE W960 (with UIQ) for a year and I'm getting tired from all that modding-and-still-not-working, too.
But on the topic, X1 has some SE things like the panels and panel manager, phone interface, from R3A firmware SW keyboard and xtrakt game and maybe some other stuff. Although I don't own X1 for too long, but basing on what I read about WM and my own xperience, I think X1's original ROM is stable, fast, without serious bugs and generally well optimized. I'm currently using R2AA008 UK ROM, R2AA010 is said to be even better. So I think X1 will satisfy your needs without too much modding. But it's still WM, you can't avoid it completely.
Just to share one thought, I'm seriously thinking about buying a high-end SE dumb phone as a secondary to X1, it might solve your problem as well
The X1 will perform pretty well out of the box (or at least with the latest official update) but it can also run better with some of the ROM's/MOD's available on this forum. So to answer your question yes this phone will be a good out of the box performer, and the option to mod will always be here should you reattain your thirst for adventure.
I ve had 2 WM phones over the past 3 years. They were very buggy, and required much effort, with custom ROMs, just to to make them decent. Especially my latest one (MIO A701) has never reached a decent level of usability, no matter the very good custom ROMs, due to crappy OEM drivers, which were never updated, by Mitac. BTW, the worst user support I've ever experienced.
X1 is a different animal. There are almost no bugs in the latest official ROM R2AA010.
As long as you just only do a couple of adviced performance tweaks, located easily at this site and you only use official tested & stable apps, most probably you will not face any issue.
Now, if you start messing with beta / experimental / brand new / cool staff then you'll have to invest some effort fixing here and there, but, after all, it's your decision and responsibility.
Personally, I would like to fall into the 2nd category; I somehow like the game; but I can't really do it extensively, because no free time.
But it's good that we have the choice, thanks to this site.
To make your answer very simple - No.
You will need to flash ROMs to make it a good phone. Out of the box, it's best would be ok.

+1. Even I hate iPhone for it's lack of functionalities and limitation. If all your need is out of the box experience and you don't want to spend time w/ WM. iPhone is probably a better choice for you.
Thanks for the input, guys. I actually don't mind flashing a rom once. Twice, would rather not. Three times, definitely not.
Does anyone have experience with the Tytn/hermes? How do you think this device performs compared to that?
My previous phone was a TYTN II (tilt). I find the xperia far superior. It's faster, less buggy, easier to navigate, and has more cool features than the TYTN. The hardware is sleeker and of higher quality. I can hardly stand to do anything with my tilt after using the xperia.
And as far as flashing a ROM to the xperia - I found it quite easy and quick, and somehow less complicated than flashing a tilt.

Same here. But I do missed some nice design of Tytn II. The "tilt" design for reading while eating. Easy to take out the sim and sd card

Finally, I sold my HD2 !!

After 3 weeks, I decided that it is over, it was not the device I waited for. The HD2 disappointed me badly. I will not talk to much about the tragedy, but some of the reasons are below:
1- Voice quality pretty bad and distorted, nothing even close to a 300$ handset.
2- SMS are sent when they want, the HTC SMS application lags too much with a few dozens of SMSes.
3- Device is very fast after a Hard Reset but once you start flooding it with applications it slows down significantly.
4- Screen was perfect, until today. I suddenly noticed the screen behaving in a weird way and not responding as expected and less sensitive. Opened notepad and made some tests: It's jittering... why? NO IDEA...
5- The top right side display glass is not totally flush with the side plastic,it's like 0.5mm deeper than the bottom and that worries me.
6-Not worth mentioning it but it's the famous camera problem. Not a major cause but it's making me nervous knowing how much HTC is taking time fixing a what so called software problem.
7- Battery life. Seriously, it's really bad. 8 hours video playback in their dream. with 40mins video playback, the battery drops 15+%
HD2 keeps amazing me day after day with the number of issues I must deal with and who knows what's next. Maybe some of you don't have all of the bugs I mentioned but some other have even more.
For a 900$ unit, that is the price of 2 high-end handset, the HD2 is not worth it. This phone is for sure not a business phone.
Buy Nokia 6700 phone and foget about smartphone and specially about Windows.
If you wish stable - buy simple phone from Nokia. If you wish nice view and great interface - buy Apple. I bough Leo only for fun. And Im happy.
You can see everything to this guy..but he is right about the poor call quality. I had the same on 3 different HTC HD2 units.. cracking and popping!
Nice to see you are able to buy something that suites your needs
Strange...
I have NONE of the problems you listed above.
Except for the camera bug, but that one exists on other phones as well and is not noticeable on most pictures - the camera is still better than most other smartphones.
OK, here's my take:
1- Call quality is really good. Loud and clear, no stuttering whatsoever. Not the best voice quality ever but better than most other smartphones.
2- SMS: I didn't have a problem with SMS, but it seems like some people do. Hovever, disabling HTC Messaging is really easy and the problem is solved. That's really nothing to complain about.
3- Device is ALWAYS fast. Yesterday I saw that I had TomTom running in the background for several days and I didn't even notice it, because the device NEVER slows down, no matter how much stuff you have running and for how long. Other devices, even my iPhone 3G, needed soft resets a lot more often because they became slow.
4- Must be a hardware fault. Things like this can happen, no matter how expensive the phone is.
5- Can't confirm this either. I've NEVER seen such a high build quality on any phone. Any other phone feels like a cheap toy in comparison to the HD2.
6- See above. All HD2' have this, but other phones have it as well and the HD2's camera is still much better than a lot of other smartphone cameras, and it's really among the best cameras you can find in a smartphone.
7- Battery life is not great, but sufficient. Sure, the Touch HD had great battery life and the HD2 can't come close - but still the HD2's battery life is average for a smartphone.
Sure, the HD2 is not perfect, but no other phone is perfect either. The HD2 is certainly THE smartphone that comes closest to being perfect. There is no better one.
And by the way: Don't you think it's a bit stupid to open threads like this?
What makes you think that people care about whether you sell your device or not? There's clearly something wrong with you if you need to post threads like this!
Well, there are alway people that like phones and people that don't like phones.
I like my HD2 very much. It has just two issues from your list. Nr. 6 and Nr. 7.
Ok, Nr. 3 is a "half issue".
The device slows down when too many applications run simultaneously, but not when I install too many. There might be around 20 additional apps on my HD2 and it runs like after a hard-reset. When I launch 5-9 Apps, the device slows down, but that shouldn't be a surprise.
The bottom-line for me is, that the HD2 is almost perfect for me. My List of issues is:
- The photo-issue (we all know what is meant)
- Battery life could be better, even with 1.48 instead of 1.43
- The keyboard reacts on the slightest touch, which is not very comfortable for me while typing. (maybe there is a fix available, if so I didn't find it by now)
- The camera-lens stands out a little from the rest of the device-backside. If they decide that it is necessary, they should have softened the borders more. Maybe with rubber or plastic.
For me there is no showstopper-bug in the device. I hope that one or two issues are resolved by softwareupdates in the future. All over all, I'm quite satisfied with the HD2 and I think the price is OK.
Big mistake. I am on my second HD2 on the o2 1.43 ROM, and now have no issues what-so-ever (touch wood). The first one crashed when using headphones and I couldnt hear the person on the other end when I initiated the call.
Now that I have a fully functioning machine, it is great! You will regret selling it.

No device is perfect. The question is: How close to perfect can you get?
What people don't realize, is, that no matter how expensive a phone is, it will never be perfect. And no matter how expensive it is, hardware faults can always happen.
Assuming the 7 issues above exist, how about other phones? I'm sure I could list AT LEAST twice as many issues for ANY other phone - Droid, Satio, iPhone... it doesn't matter, they all have problems and the all have A LOT more problems or limitations that restrain them from being perfect.
You won't get a perfect device, no matter how much you pay - but the HD2 is, in my opinion, by all means the closest you can get to perfect.
If small issues like that SMS bug are already enough to make you sell your device - good luck finding another one, I'm sure you won't because every other phone has much more serious issues!
The problem is that we are too demanding.
I don't have any of those issues: only once I had a SMS that wasn't sent. Rebooted the device and voila... SMS sent.
The voice quality it's very loud, it's always in the minimum, and clear.
Battery, there are not much devices that can perform better. My ancient Raphael had lower life battery, doing the same things.
And the 0.5mm "problem"?!
Just out of curiosity, which phone you consider to be best than the HD2?
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and to start their own thread. At least he took the time to tell us why he sold his device and whether we agree or disagree with his reasons is not important. Most of us like this device, with all of its shortcomings, and are willing to spend time in optimizing it, others cannot live with that and sell it. Both parties should be respected and treated that way.

XDA BlueAngel, HTC TouchPro2, HTC HD are very good devices.
Search in the Leo forum about the number of faulty, returned, swapped etc. devices and it has not been out for more than 1 month. The rate is a complete failure.
Go read the polls. 27/110 find the earpiece a total worthless crap wherease 27/110 find it good. The other are somehow neutral.. That is 50% of the people ARE NOT happy with it.
Screen jittering: 60% have no problem whatsoever but 40% DO have. If that is good as results, you need to take some math courses.
I do not want a perfect phone, it's just that I am not ready to pay that much for such a buggy high fault rate phone.

Hi Xeon,
Sounds like you were just unlucky.
I have NONE of the problems you have described except for the camera issue. The fix for the camera is already being tested (according to the Vodafone UK device team) so it should be with us shortly.
This device has totally exceeded my expectations... it is truly epic.
I have been using winmo for many many years (probably about 15 years in total) starting off with PDA's then consolidating my mobile devices into winmo pda phones. Ive been there, seen it and done it ALL with windows mobile.
The HTC HD2 is BY FAR the best device i have ever had the pleasure to work with.

So why do those few who don't like it think that they must tell everyone?! There's clearly something wrong with people opening threads like this.
Threads like this don't help anyone. If you think they do, then it would be necessary that everyone who likes the device opens a thread as well.
And in general, we don't open threads for things that have been discussed before. This applies to questions and to complaints as well.

10 Things I love about my HTC HD2

As an answer to all the negativity I am reading on these forums all the time, and which really makes me tired... For Chr*sts sake, stop whining and complaining and being so pessimistic about this phone and ENJOY it!
Anyway, 10 things I love about my HTC HD2, hope more will follow
1) The big screen: really a big + compared to all my other phones I had in the past
2) "Touch" -> Haven't had this before on my phones and it's a real pleasure! Gets some time to get used to it, but if you are, you don't want nothing else!
3) The speed: well what is there to say?!?
4) Windows --> Since I have a Windows rather than an Apple laptop, I think this is a big + for me
5) The great possibilities to tweak your phone as you want it
6) The dozens of Applications there are
7) XDA-forum and all the fellow LEO owners which are a lot of help
8) Great Graphics
9) (Universal) USB-cable to charge it and connect it to your computer
10) All of the above

Yes mate - I could not agree more. Rather than being an out-of-the-box-this-is-how-it-is device, it's pretty much a blank canvas where you can paint whatever the hell you like!

Yes mate, I totally agree, I love my HD2, its such a fab phone. I have no problems with mine at all......However I can sympathise with those that have these problems, it must be frustrating to say the least.

Yes mate - there are some issues, but we'll overcome them, and the benefits DEFINITELY outweigh them!
Incidentally, please don't start any more posts with "yes mate". That's MY trademark lol.

One point I would add in it's favour (10a), it's not an iPhone

Hmm,
I hope you don't get someone come onto your thread and moan about how tired they are to see ALL these threads PRAISING the HD2 and asking for a Moderator to close it.
Strange, that's what seems to happen in the so called "negative" threads (search around and you will see what I am talking about).
Why we can't just don't respect all views, good and bad, I will never know.

Im totally loving my HD2 too
After tweaking it a bit its truelly the best phone I have ever owned and I dont really see how it can be improved on.
I think the best thing apart from the magnificent screen is the capacitive screen. My last 3 phones have all had slide out keyboards and I was very apprehensive about going to the HD2 but the word recognition is amazing and I can now type faster than on any of the keyboards I have had.
Also going from a resistive screen to a capacitive screen is a godsend as I no longer have to get out a stylus everytime I want to do something or press HARD with my finger 3 or 4 times before anything happens.
Camera with the quality tweaks and video camera recording at 640x480 in mp4 is a pleasure and the sharpest picture I have seen. but then as all my previous phones have been HTC theres absolutely no comparison LOL. Loving the touch screen focus and very quick capture time.
I have the games I like installed and running smoothly, I have my applications that I need running without any poblems and christmas is going to be good this year when someone starts showing off their 'new' iphone 3gs and I turn on this bad boy
If/when HardSPL is completed and we can start putting cooked Roms on there wont be anything which evens comes close.

2nd that!!!!
I was going to add why I love my Leo but was worried the thread might attract the attention of Sunking101. A fate worse than death seeing the impact he's had on other threads so far.
I've stuck with HTC because of XDA - it's as simple as that. And the Leo had 5 key specs that were critical to me:
- solid GPS implementation;
- accelerometer
- proximity sensor
- compass
- cut and paste text from day 1
For those with patience (meaning the release of hacked SPL) the first 4 elements add serious oomph to one beast of a phone package. No one has really integrated these functions yet (e.g. compass and GPS or proximity and accelerometer) but when they do we could have some really interesting results.
Plus, I've always tinkered with my electronics so a WinMo phone is a pandora's box - and I mean that in every sense!
Multi-touch feature is my favorite .
Yep. I like this thread
Yeah ...., I like this initiative.
First of all. I love xda forum. I could not imagine my life in the world of mobile devices without the input of all the great people here.
But ... I agree on the overall negative mist hanging over most threads.
I have owned many mobiles overthe years and none was without any flaws.
I have owned many new stuff and none was without any flaws. Cars, bikes, televisions, computes and even girlfriends.
I now that all of our complaints are massive input to the producers of our beloved devices. So keep up the good work.
But ... a thread like this sometimes is SUPERB to let everybody know haw great our gadgets are.
My HD2 is my 6th HTC devices and with every ne one I love it more.
Thanks for this thread!!!!!

Then that's my reasons why I love the HD2:
1) it multitasks
2) it can queue notifications in an effective way
3) it can display anything on the homescreen
4) it serves as a USB storage device
5) it doesn't need buggy desktop software to sync with
6) it has a great camera with flash
8) it has a big WVGA screen, no waste of space for a stupid round button
9) it has all the important settings available without hacking it
10) it offers choice of browsers, media players etc.
11) it can download stuff from the web
12) it has a file explorer
13) it serves as modem or router without any problems or additional costs
14) all of the above and a lot more (speed, build quality, glass touchscreen, ultra fast GPS fix, ...)

15. I do not have to beg at the feet of a monopoly in Cupertino, CA, to make changes to my phone, and I do not need anyone's approval to install the applications I want without "jailbreaking" my phone.
16. I can install the latest improvements and bug-fixes without putting my phone back into Apple jail.
My favourite feature.... Just look at it. Best looking phone I've seen. And it's so thin!
Did a clean out today and gathered all the old HD accessories and the phone into a box for ebay.
Started the HD (which still had a good charge after nearly five weeks).
Was amazed at how slow it is compared to the HD2.
I do love the speed on the HD2. I've seen this also in the last few days with the new Opera beta 2 which is super fast.
Oh, and the screen is rather good !!
Getting rid of MS Bluetooth stack was one of the biggest plus for me.
For some reason MS stack both on PC and WM has a low pitched noise with stereo audio. It was reduced by tweaking on the provious devices I had (cruise, hd,diamond) but never disappeared.
With HD2, thew AD2P quality is perfect out of the box with my headphones and this is one of the best features of the device. Perfect quality with AD2P (perhaps with the right headphones)
i pitty all those iphone users that can do, only things that mama apple lets them do, to THEIR mobile... hahaha
i really love my HD2 for every single feature that it has in it.... cant think of a more complete package on a phone at the moment right now... it has everything u need and then some!!

Is the Leo really that bad? Advice please!

Hi all,
Well, I'm a bit confused here and slightly disappointed.
After all the hype surrounding the Leo pre-release, I was well up for it when my mobes was due for a contract renewal, but reading the forums and speaking to people such as Vodascum it seems all it not as good as I had hoped. There seem to be loads of people plagued with problems and issues which doesn't seem like a good thing at all.
The phone seems to have an awesome hardware package and an extremely good HTC skin over the WM6.5 base, but is it worth the hassles that people seem to be experiencing? Will WM7 solve everything and make it a true iphone killer?
What are your thoughts? Have you been struck with issues? Is it worth getting in the hope WM7 will make it better? My Diamond is ace, but it's getting old and needs replacement. I previously REALLY wanted a Leo, but I'm not so sure now - help meeee!
Cheers ta.
I love mine, Had the pink spot issue but that was solved with a patch. I have played around with various CookedROMS but have reverted to 1.61 as it seems stable.
Personally, I don't regret all the hassle I went through getting hold of it. and wouldn't hesitate recommending it!
TA
There's more people on this forum that are happy with their HD2 than there are ones that are unhappy with it.
I think you've only seen the 1 sided argument that is unfortunately getting shouted about.
Some people are having a few minor issues, and a smaller number of people are having some major issues, but there's a very large number of people that are having no issues, or very slight ones that they simply don't care about.
For example, the pink hue on photos is so barely noticable on my phone that it really doesn't matter (unless I take a picture of a piece of white paper and then reduce the image size by 80%). Also, I can type like a madman on it, barely making a mistake, but others say it's the worst keyboard in the world (or that it's "KILLING THEM"!!)
The only real way for you to find out is to get one. Most service providers give you 14 days to return something you don't want, and it's a legal requirement to provide at least 7 days, so just get one and have a play. Decide for yourself. No-one can tell you whether you'll like it or not.
I think johncmolyneux pretty much sums it up. I have had/have some problems(Slow loading SMS is the main one) BUT im still a very happy chap. I would only advise you not to get this phone if you don't want to spend time tweaking it. Without installing a few extra apps and making some tweaks here and there i wouldn't be anywhere near as happy. For me thats the main reason i got it. I wanted something i could really play with and customise as opposed to other more locked down devices.

I'm not sure I'd say there are "loads of people" who are "plagued with problems". Rather, there seems to be a tiny but vocal minority of people here on this forum who do nothing but complain about issues that the majority of people haven't experienced.
The HD2 is an excellent phone and I'd happily recommend it to anyone.
+1
Myself and a few of the Mods on 4WM have HD2's and they are very good indeed. There are a few users who fiddle with settings, install dodgy tweaks then complain when things go wrong.
Give it a try- hopefully you won't be disappointed
I've not had any problems with mine and I'm very pleased with it indeed. Still running the stock 1.43 ROM with all the hotfixes applied. Go for it. I'm sure you won't regret it.

Hello,
I truly understand your dilemma. Read the threads below then go find yourself a device and play with it.
The key to your decision is this; if you are happy and able to find the time to tweak your device as necessary then you will end up enjoying it. If you don't have the time or are easily frustrated or prefer the simplicity offered by other packages such as Nolia and iphone then DON't buy this phone.
DO NOT buy this phone without playing with one in the metal first.
Hope this helps.

I'm also running the 1.43 stock rom.
I never had any issues with the sms not being sent.
The pink dot is fixed by the patch.
No other bugs for me, this is truly one of the best investments I've done.
People having problems with their phones probably would write here and even start new threads, but as long as the phone is working well there's no reason to write or for that matter, start a new thread just to say "my phone owns". Which is probably why you've got the impression of many people having trouble with their HD2's.
As I said, many people have had the sms-sending issue, which I've never experienced.
The ONLY real bug I have is the slow loading of the SMS's, which I hope will be solved. It does not kill me however.
Funny story, yesterday me and my friend (who has an iPhone) tried skype over our mobiles, as we both have use the GPRS for free but have different operators we finally found a way to call eachother for free.
We first tried skype over WiFi and it worked great. He then turned to the 3G and tried to call me, while Skype told him that this function is not available. So on the iPhone 3G-calling did not work (I don't know if there is a workaround for this or not, it doesn't matter, it's not standard and if you want to make it work you'd have to tweak it which makes the iPhone no better than WinMo).
I then tried the 3G and it worked perfectly.
I really can't see what all this WinMo bashing is about. I've played around with the iPhone and it is so boring, I could never imagine trading my HD2 for the iPhone.
Of 120 who have responded to a poll on the HD2 on this site, 3 had opted to return it, 4 hated it and were stuck with it (I'd bet at least one of those has since recanted), 12 were ambivalent and 89 either liked or loved the device. The balance of nine related to the plans of non-owners of the device, of whom six were keen to get one and three weren't.
You can find the poll and the results here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592375
jakem is correct in regard to the noisy minority, but then that is only really to be expected - if you have problems you are likely to complain. NeilM may be even closer to the truth in terms of ill-advised 'tweaking'.
There was a surge of slightly suspicious negative postings by very new members that led to speculation around a smear campaign - you pays your money and you takes your choice on that one.
Personally, you would have to prise mine out of my cold, dead hand...
The phone is great - had a Nokia N95 so not familiar with tweaks so ran the HD2 stock 1.43 ROM and it has been fine, fine, fine. Due to useful sites like this, I have got a few of the tweaks on and set the phone up how I like it. Was thinking of an iPhone last year but would not touch one now as it would be rubbish in comparison!
Would recommend you get one, read the manual and take your time before loading lots of apps, etc on it!!
jp_iles, if you loved your Diamond you will certainly love the Leo. I had a Diamond and thought it was awesome, granted battery life was terrible, GPS was inaccurate, camera was rubbish but this didn't stop it being the best phone I've ever owned until now . The Leo does have some problems and can be twitchy but IMO this just adds to it's charm, I'm sure the guys/girls here at XDA will do the same as they did for my Diamond and keep releasing/patching/tweaking stuff which will just evolve the Leo into something even better than it is now.
I had my hd2 for a week. It never ran more than 5 minutes at one time. It is gone in for repair. I will miss it. I will not replace it. Having been an early adopter for more than a decade, I know there is always a price t pay one way or another. My computers, laptops, micro pc, pocket pcs and cell phones have all taken a back seat to this device. Hope this helps you in your decision.
i love my hd2, wouldnt trade it for all the iphones in cupertino.
I absolutely LOVE this phone!
I still have my Touch Pro knocking about and I was using today to do some bits and pieces, it's utterly pants in comparison!! The size of the screen is useless, the resistive screen is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO unresponsive compared to the capacitive on the HD2 (having said that, the ability to accurately "write" using a stylus or your nail is definitely missed).
The speed of the HD2 is just spot on (though I wouldn't turn down "more" speed!). The GPS lock-on time is infinitely better than any other phone/external GPS receiver I have ever used. I don't know what more to say, it's amazing!
I. LOVE. THIS. PHONE.
It is a nice phone, well in my opinion , the
1. build quality seems solid but do not drop this beautiful piece of hardware
2. vibration feedback motor resonates a little but not annoying
3. earpiece and handsfree(back) speaker have irritating resonating sound
4. wired headset produces this irritating resonance as well
5. phone calls made with earpiece or back speaker are too loud
6. phone calls and music do have good quality on both BT carkit and BT stereo headset thus use these when possible
7. when having a call it is still possible to "press" wrong buttons with ears or even when in pocket
8. reliable software
9. nice camera but whitebalance corrects white to be pink
10. gps reception is excellent
well that's about it.
I really would like 3, 4 and 5 corrected.
Thanks for the swift responses peeps, lots of useful thoughts.
I'm still really miffed that Vodascum aren't offering it any more to non-business customers, although I'm sure I got my Diamond when they were only offering it to business customers. Meh - I shall try the "I'm leaving you" trick to get a nice deal out of them. If that doesn't work, I'm off to O2 - we have internal transmitters at work so thats a bonus.
Thanks again.
JP

Exactly. That sums it up perfectly.
Look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592375
75% are happy with the device. Another 10% are ambivalent. That is a better result than the iPhone reached in recent satisfaction surveys - despite that HTC has no reality distortion field like Apple.
Hi
I come from Diamond, then HD and now HD2. The HD2 is the best of all those because it is really very fast and excellent big display. Some thoughts:
1- HD camera is probably a little bit better than HD2 one. HD2 has the flash and this is good, but pictures seem more focused and crispy on HD
2- USB connector is a microUSB, not the worldwide miniUSB. I bought a couple of adaptors on ebay to allow reuse of all my cables at home, work and car
3- Stop the tentation to throw it away after the first hours of usage because you cannot select on the screen list boxes and check boxes! HD2 does not have stylus and it requires a little bit of experience (couple of days) to hit in the right place the small icons or list boxes
But in any case I would never come back to HD.
Regards
Stefano
