Hey guys, I was creating a transparency theme for LeeDrOiD 2.1 and came across a weird problem I havent come across before. I have the notification bar transparent on the lockscreen, and when using a live wallpaper, but as soon as I choose a standard wallpaper (either through gallery or wallpaper chooser) the transparent notification bar is no longer transparent, but a solid black. I've edited the "statusbar_background" and 3 "status_bar_" png's in framework-res.apk, and pushed it via ADB in recovery.... everything else seems to work fine cept the black notification bar bug when using a regular WP.. Anyone have any idea's?
nvm.. apparently it's a problem with LauncherPro. It seems to resize the wallpaper to NOT go under the notification bar.. Which is normally fine with an opaque bar, but if you use transparent bar, it just fills black where the WP should be
Edit: Okay so it happen with all replacement launchers.. The HTC Sense one and Launcher2 (aka the android one) work fine. but LauncherPro and ADW.Launcher both do it So much for my kickass LeeDrOid theme with LP

I'd still be quite glad to see your theme... It's something that I wanted, a transparent notification bar, just don't have the ps/gimp skills to do it.

Found thus over at Droid forums, and I really like the look of it.

You can create most of this using Ultralinx work....without having the flash a theme....jus flash the 'matte grey' theme for sense roms.
-The clock is a beautifull widgets home theme called something like cashmere
-Use Ultralinx modded widgets
-launcher pro with Ultralinx dock icons and dock bar
-And it looks like the font is changed to Helvetica or something similar
-and the battery widget is 'Battstatt'
Sorted! lol

I wish it were that simple.
Using LP, so thats no issue, ultras theme hasnt been updates to latest Lp, or has it now? I like that status bar, lockscreen and other little things, but ive modded this, mixed with abse's status bar, and it all works
To be honest, the plain, flat black is ugly as hell. I'd settle for the one that are in some other versions of Sense. Can I change it?
I have a few different ones on my mod thread (transparent, gradient [dhd sense style], woodgrain, ect...)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852013
Hope that helps...
Starting with CM7 number 19 you can select cyanabread theme and all your notification icons go from green to blue, which I love cause Im themed blue anyways on adw
Hi! why only with stock LG wallpaper I can see a full screen image in my home? with custom image, the topbar it's only quite transparent, not totally like stock.
how can I solve this?
Been having the same question. After some search, it seems that using the Xposed mod is one of the way to get a 100% transparent bar. Not sure if there are any other ways..

I'll let other, more informed G2 owners confirm this, but I believe that if you install wallpapers via an apk, the G2 sees those as "stock" and you can get a transparent notification bar. I am still exploring this.

Wallpaper as an apk..? Okay unless I'm going crazy from all the studying that is something new to me. I don't remember installing wallpaper.. However I did install apps that has a selection on wallpapers. After setting it thru the app, the status bar becomes translucent. Thanks for the info though. Will search around because I really liked the transparent status bar.

Let me re-phrase that:
I meant to say that you can find apps (apks) that install wallpapers - and when they do (I believe) the G2 will see them as "stock", not as "pictures" that are used as wallpaper. When those wallpapers are seen as stock, you get 100% transparency in the notification bar. This is what I think - still looking into it. Hope this is helpful!
Well it's pretty simples really ... the status bar icons are white and aqua, these would only be easily visible on a dark (non-white) background, which all the stock wallpapers are ... now if you use a custom wallpaper, I doubt the phone can detect what colour the wallpaper is, so to avoid numpties setting a white wallpaper and then wondering/complaining why their icons have disappeared, they have set it so that there is a semi transparent black bar for all custom wallpapers to ensure the icons can still be seen regardless of what colour the wallpaper is.
Simples.

Makes sense.
So is it the case that when you install wallpapers via an app/apk, the G2 sees those as "stock" and won't automatically apply the semi-transparent background? Just wondering...

I'm not sure about that, I don't tend to set wallpapers straight from an app, I always download them, I actually only really use the wallbase.cc app for all my wallpapers. (best wallpaper app).
But if was to take a guess, I would say that the phone assumes all the pre-installed stock wallpapers are compatible with a transparent status bar ... so if you get the phone to think your custom wallpapers are preinstalled stock wallpapers then it might work.
This could be just as simple as saving the wallpapers in the correct system folders along with the other stock wallpapers. Which might explain why if you set it from the app directly it works, as you're not actually downloading the wallpaper, so the app only saves it as a temporary file in the system folders, thus making the phone think it's a stock wallpaper.
Again, these are all assumptions, I haven't tested any of it so it could all be useless info ... but worth looking into .. I do like the transparent status bar.

I believe the phone came with a light blue sky wallpaper. That should have made the status bar translucent. But it didn't. Is it possible to put in wallpapers together with the system's default set? You just need to add pictures into the specific folder eh?
tried to achieve the same with GravityBox Xposed module and it works just as strange as observation in this thread. the status bar becomes transparent right after applying the settings no matter the wallpaper but it goes into the usual semi transparent mode right after you visit the app drawer for example.
Just got the S7 edge yesterday, everything is going fine except one thing.
I set a black wallpaper to take advantage of this beautiful AMOLED screen.
But when I set it, I get very faint white horizontal bars on top of the screen. It's not that my screen is broken, it's completely black when I see that image in the gallery, but when I set it as a wallpaper, I get the faint white bars. I tried it on the stock launcher as well as Nova & Apex. It's persistent in all the launchers.
I thought it might be because of the "shadow effect" many browsers have, but I turned the shadow off & yet it was there.
Anyone else have this issue? How do I fix it?
Thank you.
Edit:
I'm including 2 screenshots of the home screen. One of them is edited to make the bars more prominent.

It's normal and part of the stock framework and would need editing to remove. Doesn't bother me.
You could use a launcher like Nova and work on the transparency of the notification bar, or use a gesture to hide it entirely. I believe it's done so that you can see the notification bar in a black on black situation.

Won't make a difference, it's not part of the status bar.

Huh... Weird. That's a bummer. Anyway, hopefully I'll get used to it & not notice it as much.
Thanks.

I downloaded the trial for that theme. Agreed it's a beautiful theme, but it doesn't solve the problem for me.
Yeah, I noticed that too as I actually have the same exact wallpaper haha.

Found a temporary fix.
Setting the wallpaper using KLWP.
It falls under the "live wallpapers", even if you just set a static wallpaper & the white bars don't show up on a live wallpaper.
i updated to android 8.0 today and the first thing i noticed after reboot is that some of my icons have white boxes around them. so i thought i would just change the icons to fix it. that did not work some of the icons did change but the white boxes remain. i then thought it was time for a theme change so i went and found a springy like puppy theme to use. that went badly also. None of the icons on the screen are from the new theme. in the screenie provided the green arrow shows the white box and the one icon that changed. the red arrow is the original themes icon set. the blue icon is the original theme icon with the white box around it. i have tried changing wallpapers and icons and themes but the icons do not change anymore.

Try to apply the theme again
And in settings there is an option to turn off icon backgrounds.

that did not work
only the home screen being affected made me thing.i had forgotten that i had installed the pixel 2 launcher in android 7. i went and turned it off and went back to defaults it all is working. so i uninstalled it and re downloaded it and reinstalled and it is working so it looks like the app did not like the upgrade.
looks like the theme hasn't been updated to make it compatible with Oreo.
it isn't the theme that has the issue as i tried 5-6 themes all having the same issue. it was the pixel launcher did not like being installed in android 7 then upgraded to 8. once i uninstalled the launcher and then reinstalled it all is working as expected.
i thought only i had that problem i use apex launcher on note 8 and after i apply theme or icon pack it is not changing
I just use the "vanilla" Samsung launcher, and I have this issue, even with a setting reset. I really don't want to do a factory.
I am having same issue but I have no launcher installed. Just using it theme. What I found is that the setting under
Settings - - > display - - > frame icons
is on and grayed out. Can't figure out how to ungray it

It looks like Oreo has brought new feature called Adaptive Icons.
Apparently until developers would have enabled their stuff to support it you still be watching white area surrounding the legacy icons.
This is why I've switched to Nova, but unfortunately loosing numeric notification badges
