MyTouch 3G 1st gen SWYPE - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I would like to apologize ahead of time for this but I had no luck searching the forums for this answer. I have the first generation of the MyTouch 3G and wanted to set it up with SWYPE. Can anybody please help point me in the right direction to get this done. Thanks so much!

You can sign up for the swype beta on the swpe website. When the next update comes out they'll probably send you an email with a link to download it. If you can't wait you could look around somewhere for a download link to it. We can't provide one here on these forums because it's considered "warez."

How to get swype to work on MT3G.
Not sure if you still were looking for a Swype that works on the mytouch, but just in case you are I thought I would tell you how I FINALLY got it to work on my rooted MT3G.
1. First download the Swype apk, Sorry I tried really hard to get it attached but I am too new,(You can email me and Ill send it too you or just search for this: Swype_1.60.36.8214_HVGA.apk) and put on your SD card.
2. Download Root Explorer(This is needed to change the permissions of the .apk after the install and before you try to run the app)
3. Once you have both these steps completed then open Root Explorer and navigate to the folder where you put the Swype apk.
4. Long click the Swype app and long press on it, then click install.
5. After the install do not launch or activate the Swype keyboard just yet...
6. Navigate to the data/app/ folder and find the com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk and long click the it. Go down to permissions and check all the boxes so it has full permission. DONE !
You should be able to go to home => settings => Language & Keyboard, now to activate and use Swype !

Where do you get Swype? Can it be downloaded from the market?

Swype is not available from the market. Although they do have a couple of wannabe applications out there. If you want Swype just PM me and I can either email it to you or if you want just click click click on dis.... http://db.tt/O2q1jaj

this worked really well

[Q] can some one clarify...

This is my first android phone im trying to figure out how to install apks onto my phone i read some threads and looked on youtube but still no cigar what programs do i need installed on my phone or computer, right now i have eoe app installer and i thought i put a apk file on my phone but its saying nothing found if some one could quickly break down the process for me or point me to the right direction i would greatly appreciate it.... once again this is my first android phone im a iphone convert(i see the light) so i gotta learn how to think again
There are a few ways of doing this. I like to use tAttachApkInstaller from the Android Market. Install that, than just email yourself via gmail the apk file. Once you recieve the email you'll see an option on what to use to download the APK. Use the app I just told you about, and you're good.
what your looking for is "sideloading".
there should be a couple stickys describing how to enable sideloading.
Just download a file manager.
Have Root (if not, you should), then get Root Explorer.
Do not have Root (again, you should), then get Astro
I just drag the apk file to the sd card and then disconnect the phone from the computer and look for the apk with the file explorer that the phone brings and just click it... done!
^ if you use Awesome Drop you wont need to use a cable.... I usually just download apps straight to the phone using the browser.
Thanks for the feedback it's seems like there are a few different ways to skin a cat I'm try some of the suggestions

Keyboard from one Froyo to another

I have a question. Hopefully someone could possibly help me? I have onyx r2.2 running flawless. But I really like the Multi-touch keyboard from GothicKanged Froyo. So I downloaded the whole update.zip of GothicKanged and pulled that apk from the rom but when I try to install it, it prompts me telling me that it will replace another keyboard but all my data will be saved, I click okay and it tries to install but doesn't. I also tried using root explorer and placed the apk into /system/apps and it shows as an option but it won't ever load up and just force closes.
Any suggestions?

[Q] Swype Beta on Droid X

Please note: I'm not asking for the APK here.
I had an Evo and signed up for the swype beta and was accepted into the program, I returned my evo and got a droid x which comes with swype installed.
As you all know, swype has continually been updated since the version available on my phone. I'm in the beta program and able to download/login to the swype site with my beta account, i've successfully installed the swype beta before on my evo using my credentials.
Here's my problem:
with the latest installer(1.1.5151 i think) it's telling me my current version isn't properly licensed, and is asking me to disable swype to generate a license, because it comes with my droid x i'm not able to disable the keyboard.
even if i have to root is there a way i can disable or remove the built in swype keyboard so i can install the beta?
Are you rooted? If so you can get rid of the swype.apk, but you also have to find the swype library file, which I don't know the exact name or location of off the top of my head.

Tutorial: Installing Beta Swype on Droid X (or other pre-installed devices)
First, your Droid X must be rooted. There is plenty of info out there on how to accomplish this.
Get a root file manager (I use root explorer)
1. Change your default input method to anything other than Swype.
2. Mount file system as R/W
3. Delete (or move/rename) \system\app\swype.apk
4. Delete (or move/rename) \data\dalvik-cache\[email protected]@[email protected]
5. Delete (or move/rename) \system\lib\libSwypeCore.so
6. Reboot
7. Download and Run the latest Swype Beta installer
8. ENJOY!
I hold no responsibility if you screw up your system, and recommend you make a backup before attempting this, but, the above steps worked perfectly for me, and I am now running the latest Swype beta on my X.
These steps should also work on other models that come pre-installed with Swype from the factory, but I don't have another one to test, so have no way of being sure. If anyone tries it, let me know if it works for you!

Why do you want to use the beta instead of the stock Swype app?
The beta does seem to work better
One notable feature in the beta is that you can double tap words to pop up a list of other possible words you meant to use instead
Yes, the new Swype is better than stock: larger keys, better recognition and, as you note, double tap brings up alternate word choices. But no need to mess with the beta registration, authentication, etc. You can update to Swype 2.15 here.

Help with removing swype files.

So I have a mytouch3.5mm. This phone included swype as a default program. Long story short, I am also in the swype beta and received an email saying there is a new version. I didn't know how to remove a core file, so I posted a thread on t-mobile forums. A guy told me to use titanium to uninstall swype that way, so I did. I tried to install the new swype app but I get an error saying it cannot be installed on this device. Also at the beginning of the install it asks if its okay to replace the app. So I look through my files in manage applications and I see one last swype related file. "com.swype.android.inputmethod" I click on it and it says app not found. I'm assuming I cannot install the new swype because my phone thinks this file is still there(the file size is 0.00kb). How do I go about removing that file and getting swype back on my phone? Thanks for any advice you guys may have.

[Q] no working market on stock 3.2 ROM

Hi
Having some physical AZERTY keyboard issues with Taboonay 2.2 (great ROM), I decided to come back to stock 3.2 ROM, wich I did (downloading it from here).
But the problem now is that my market does not want to download anything, keeping stuck on "Preparing to download" or something like that...
Did some of you have this issue ?
How to solve it ?
Thanks
Nico
Restart the device, log into Gtalk and then try downloading from the market.

ok, will try tonight (I'm at work right now)
Would I have to do that each time ?
Not normally, but I've had to use that trick on a G1, a Wildfire and a Desire.

Might need a different version of the market app. If the above trick doesn't help, let me know, and I'll get you a good working version with instructions how to install it. I sometimes get that same error (stuck at downloading), but usually I have to cancel it several times, and eventually it get's going. Pretty sure with me, it's the Market site. They've only put out about 50 different versions of it, and when you get one that works, disable the auto update. Hopefully that stops it from updating to a newer version that doesn't work.

OK, thanks, will try that tonight
The market site is already a good alternative, but not very easy when I want to download many apps at once...

Rule number 1. Never download and install multiple apps. Sure way to "clog" the system. 1 at a time bro.
arf, the solution above does not work for me...

Ok, here is the market app I use.
I'm an old fashioned guy, so heed the instructions,
I assume you are rooted.
1. Using root explorer, or a file manager that has root access, rename you current "vending.apk" to like "oldvending.apk"
2. copy my market.apk into system/app folder.
3. Rename the market.apk to vending.apk (you probably need to only change the first name).
4. With your file manager, you can check the permissions (long press). Make sure your vending.apk has the same permissions as other files in the directory. Click the box as needed.
5. Reboot your tablet.
6. Go to Settings/applications/application manager, and delete the cache's.
7. This will make you log in to google market again when you start the app.
Should work, as the same version works for me.
EDIT: XDA, seems not to be able to handle attachments just now. They seem overloaded...... They can only handle about 200 users at any one time.
