i was wondering if changing radio version affects GPS? i've changed radio to install android but it barely works now even on WM. it works just after first boot of WM or android. but if i disable it then renable it, it doesnt even find satellites.
im going to change radio from 2.12.x and see if it persists.
anyone experienced this?
I'm using radio 2.12 Energy rom and Bangsters android. With this setup GPS works well in both systems. I can find a gps fix in my car with my hd2 just as quickly as my standalone magellan unit.
Yes...radio version effect GPS... I am using 2.12 as well, but I do not have problem with GPS fix.
I have seen certain version on radios that takes forever to get fix while some gets fix within 15sec (i did test myself by switching several version of radios in a same day). I also believe your location also is a factor as discussed in radio effecting battery life threads.
Im in Malaysia and using Maxis.

Hi, I've got TomTom Navigator 6 installed on my Trinity and it all works fine, except it takes about 5 minutes before it picks up any satellites when I run it - does anybody know if there's a fix to enable to gps chip to pick up satellites a bit quicker than this? Even when I'm outside and away from tall buildings it's the same. Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Works fine on my Trinity. I think I have the following : Trinity-Radio-ROM-1[1].41.00.11-by-ZakMcRofl, installed so maybe try putting this Radio ROM on. There maybe better Radio ROMs but this one works fine for me.
Less than a minute from a cold start and even works inside the house. It is faster at getting a fix than my Kaiser.
I have the official HTC ROM upgrade on my Trinity and like the OP it takes a wee while to get a fix. I am learninig to live with it.
in my rom i have a program called "QuickGPS"; every 3 days it downloads a file (few KB) that contains some data about satellite positions - this should accelerate FIXing process... in theory.
Try it!
An alternative could be having GPS "always on" with another program running minimized!
I have the exact the same problem using destinator! Well i just read somewhere that a prog called "gps gate" seems to make our job but i dont know yet.I have to find it and try it. Plus i dont want to have always gps on cause i need battery to speak...
as mentioned in a previous post, id check the radio version u have installed, and maybe update it mate....
different radio versions run differently with roms......its pot luck.
try the 1.46....or the 1.50 radio....they work well on mine...
Radio 1.38.00.11
Radio 1.41.00.11
Radio 1.46.00.11/30.11
Radio 1.50.08.11
I tried the Radio 1.50.08.11 and found that it indeed did pick up GPS 2x faster than my original Radio, issue was it has no 3G capability, it switched me to EDGE, so I went back.
Also HTC QuickGPS fails to download the updates for me....
You can try that :
http://rapidshare.com/files/25607303/SeaSGEE.exe
It's like QuickGPS ...
Just run it each time before using the GPS (don't wait the 3 days) ... It's works fine for me ...
try PDAMOBIZ ROM's
try PDAMOBIZ ROM's for me they can get a much faster fix than all the others
maybe due to some tweaks - not sure but costantly got a fix in <60sec. compared to 4/5 min. in the same location
................or you could try the new radio thats out as of today for the trinity......
1.56.70.11

Radio 1.50.08.11 works like a charm for me....full 3G and HSDPA so I am not sure what the problem is on your P3600i.
I have found that GPS Quick Position is useful (even if just for the Placebo effect). Time to first fix is not an issue for me....lots of people complain about it on the Trinity and compare it to the PNA GPS units...but really there has to be something of a compromise on a phone/GPS/PDA otherwise the thing would be a Laptop.

I'm trialling 1.56.70.11 now, but again it has switched me to EGDE.

I have tried villian rom and modaco rom but when i enable gps sattelites in the phone option it says its enabled but gps applications never get a fix and the satellie symbol doesnt ever appear in the task bar. Also I dont know for sure when this started happening because i have not tried using gps for a while, but would flashing the hacked spl cause it? are there any fixes?
I have tried Villian 5.2 and aHero 0.7, with Radio 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26.
GPS get a lock, short time later it lose the lock.
Tested with different Software (GPS Test, Igo, Navigon, Maps)
does the radio affect the gps?

I noticed following with my phone: GPS gets lock (with Navigon, Google Maps ...) and works fine while phone is connected to the 2G base station. As soon it's switched to the 3G, GPS losts it's lock. If 3G is disabled (*#*#INFO*#*#) everthing works fine. Also lock gets back as soon as 3G is disabled. I'm using MoDaCo 3.2 and did try two different radio ROMs: 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 and 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.26. Hope this helps.
on the 2.1 roms that are available atm the phone needs to be booted with gps turned ON, otherwise it won't find a fix. when you are going back from 2.1 to 1.5 (e.g. modaco) you need to reflash the radio to make the gps work again. that is valid for the JU 09.26 radio, not sure about older versions.
There was an issue with flashing some of the 2.1's and then going back to a restored ROM. I am using the Mr Bang Performance rom, but couldn't get a lock. The solution was to reflash the radio and it should work then.
I'd give that a go, it might sort you out.
EDIT: I see kerndog already pointed that out...
ah perfect, reflashing the radio worked! thanks guys
hi,
i don't now if this is the right forum to ask for this question
i have installed froyo 2.2 on my hd2, i have one problem, and that is with the Gps i can't get any signal it just seeking and seeking, when i go in to google maps or navigation, could anybody help me with that problem
Did you make sure that GPS is enabled? Do you have a clear view of the sky? What build of froyo specifically are you running? What radio?
I'm running Bangsters 1.2a and it takes forever to find a GPS signal, but especially with Google apps. Waze seems to fair a bit better, but no where as fast as back in WinMo.

yes i turn gps on and i can see in top op the screen that it is seeking, i have tried outside, inside but same result.
iam running this http://gamesquare.co.uk/froyo.html but it stands version 2.2 in my phone. and radio 2.12.50.02_2
but can it be because i run dutty's leo sense as winmo os
Thats strange. If I were you I'd just keep trying different radio/rom/android build combinations. If you never get it working then it may be a hardware issue.
Where are you located? In many (most/all?) builds if you're not in the U.S. you have to edit the gps.conf file to give the gps your region.
Start here and see if it helps.

It's probably related to the gps.conf, search for more information if it still doesn't work. The HD2 gps locks on quite fast with the a-gps assist. Faster than all of my pnd and golf gps devices except Garmin with its hotfix.
Hey guys! My problem is that no matter what Windows mobile/Android rom I use, I never can lock on a GPS signal. I have tried GPS status but all that does is just run and run without ever picking up a signal.
Here's what I'm dealing with:
WM Rom: OzDROID 2.00
Radio: Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14
Android Rom: MCCM SE V3.3
Kernal: Hastarin r8.4
What could I be missing guys? I have tried numerous combinations but all get the same result.
I have also tried running Quick GPS but that also does nothing.
Do you think that this has something to do in Winmo that I'm not doing right or does it probably just have to do with the Android side?
me 2, in winmo worked just fine, but in android, no signal.
Update that radio and Rom. I will send exactly what I'm using. No internet drop, gps, and navigation works flawless....
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Also change that android build.

Here's an update on what I have changed
WM Rom: OzDROID 2.00
Radio: Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14
Android Rom: MCCM SE V3.3
Kernal: Hastarin r8.4
Like I said I have tried numerous WM and Android Roms with all the same results. I once got a great GPS signal on a froyo build that I can't remember the name of, but decided to switch back to sense because I like it better.
Are there any special things that I need to do in WM before I boot Android? Like have airplane mode on or something like that?
I've used MDJ Sense v2.2 rEVO and right now MDJ Matted v1.4. I got GPS signals with both builds. It does take minimum 5 mins to get satellite signal tho, and you need to be outside.
Use mdj sense v 1.7 its fine with me..or try use fasterfix

Anyone else have any ideas?
this is a stupid question but did you make sure to stand outside while trying to get a luck on the gps? What app were you using when trying to get a lock? Google map? Copilot?

Yes, I tried inside and out. I was using google maps and gps status.
there's no point trying inside, if you can't even get one outside.
just try using gps status, downloading the gps assisstance data, then just standing out side for a good 15 minutes just to ensure you don't get a signal, because you may just be impatient!
if after that you still don't get one, perhaps try a different android build
i use m-deejays and gps is flawless! quicker lock than my satnav, probably due to the assistance data!
Im running radio version 2.15.50.14
Ive been running this version since I first switched the phone from winmo to android.
ive been through 2 different builds, countless gps.conf files, including blank.
have tried GPS Status, fastfix, you name it..
not a single sat, not one, ever.. Im running gpstest and all it ever says is 0 in view 0 used..
current build is coredroid 1.4
Ive tried changing everything EXCEPT the radio..
so, my question is, does your HD2's GPS work, and if so what radio are you running?
I know there are bunch of people in the same boat.
1. of all, test gps in Windows mobile. If it isn´t successful then your gps receiver is broken.
I had that problem.

sorry forgot to mention, did that.
between android builds i wiped her completely out and did winmo 6.5 and the gps did work with it.
there are a lot of other people having poor to no GPS with android builds, and I doubt they all have broken recievers
Having issue of initially not getting a GPS lock in Android. I am using GPS Status. If I use GPS Status and go to Tools>Manage A-GPS State and do a restet A-GPS state, it gets a lock within 30 seconds and all apps after the Reset A-GPS State work.
It seems to a be an Android Build issue in that when the GPS is initialized to be used, it is not being reset properly.
