Hi All,
My first post - I've done some searching regarding the issue but had no luck finding any
Anyone else having issues surfing the web via 3G?
It seems I do something as simple as a Google search, pull up the initial site I'm looking for and then can't go any further within the site or pulling up any other sites.
I also experienced the issue using <cringe> the Bing search tool.
I've replicated the issue on the Fascinate besides a Motorola Droid 1 that's working just fine - No issue on the MotoDroid at all....which, by the way, is a bit embarrassing.
I've rebooted the Fascinate, put in and out of Airplane mode, forced quit the browser, etc, etc - No joy at all.
I've not rooted or done any other modifications as of yet - Received the device yesterday and giving her a whirl.

Never mind - Just discovered that I was working a bit too quickly and Google wanted me to "OK" the use of the GPS for my location.
Going to Google, Searching and selecting a link before verifying the use of location based services I guess hoses up the whole process - Who knew??
Anyway - Many apologies for wasting space here.

Im at my wit's end. Im about to give up on my beloved Android, this makes no sense. Surely Im not the only person experiencing this hair pulling issue. It happened with my g1, my MT3G and now my nexus one:
yahoo.com
capitalone.com
and god knows what other sites
I can sign in to these sites a few times and then i get an error saying im entering invalid info. I am NOT entering invalid info, ive tried signing in 30 times each time i sit down to try to deal with this
This issue happens without me changing any settings or downloading any apps
When i wiped the g1 or the MT3G the sites would again work a few times
I feel like I should try the iphone or a windows phone.
Does anyone know how to wipe this phone (yes i googled the s*** out of this question)? And more importantly does anyone know whats making my Android phones reject these popular websites? I love google, but these are legit sites that this phone ought to be able to handle. thanks for any help
Browser>Menu>More>Settings...
Clear Cookies, Form Data, & Cache one at a time to see if one helps.
what browser are you on? if you havnt switched to the dolphin browser (multitouch yay!) or opera mini (fastest prolly), id highly recommend you try them if you havnt already and both are faster than stock
im losing my ****
thanks for the replies though. I have deleted cache, etc. in the browser many times and i have tried dolphin, but it hasnt helped. It seems so strange that I cant find any existing issue discussion here or in the g1 or mt3g forum, capitalone.com might be overlooked but surely many others have had the yahoo.com issue, i mean i first turned on the phone, signed in fine then could never sign in again, i havent done anything to set me apart from the other users and yet ive had this issue on all 3 android phones. ive now reset my nexus phone without saving my settings or apps and still i can sign in once and never again.
any other ideas? thank you
1 more browser, try opera lol... after that idk... sorry bud

Did you delete Cookies and saved form data?? or was that part of "etc"?
Opera Mini 4 sucks on Android. Hopefully Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile will be better and have multi-touch.
Hi there I'm keen to help you replicate this problem. Is it anythng to do with the number of unsuccessful attempts per session. Most sites lock you out after a certian number of incorrect entries. I know some SIPs can be a ***** to get first time.
Have you unlocked your phone flashed a custom rom? Are you signing in over wifi? might it be an isp issue?

thanks for the help.
It happens on 3g, e, g and wifi
I havent rooted
i dont know about the isp thing
The issue occurs after the first or second successful login, without any extra attempts in the session
When the issue happens i can wipe the phone and am able to sign in again, i think if i dont sign out it will stay signed in and i can go with it like that for a bit longer but eventually signs me out and back to square one
When it happened on my MT3G i had a couple of refurbished replacements and the issue persisted
TMO told me that it was an app screwing it up because when i restarted in safe mode i could sign in. But i started with a clean wipe and could only sign in once or twice. Surely im doing something wrong but damned if i can figure it out
I use capital1 and yahoo but I've never had any issues with them on my G1, MyTouch or N1, weird.
Tried it on my G1 and it's working just fine!
Maybe you could provide a log of what is happening the moment you try to login? I think you should be able to do a logcat on a non-rooted phone.
Using ADB just run:
Code:
adb logcat > log.txt
i really, really appreciate everyones help, ive been dealing with this for a long time and its been quite frustrating.
I just reset the phone, signed in to two of the issue sites and ive been changing settings and downloading apps but i havent signed out of either site nor have i reset the phone or deleted the browser cache or data. Im guessing itll go bunk in the next day or two as usual and if it does im going to try to get a log. I havent been doing any rooting/development stuff since my g1 about 5 months ago so im a bit rusty but i should be able to manage a log...
I have problems with certain sites and authentication while tethered. If I had to pull a unicorn out of my ass I would assume it's what proxy you're connected to. Someone smarter than I would probably be able to give you a way to test. I've been able to duplicate the problems on my various Android devices. So I don't think it's android as much as it my provider in my area. I don't have an intimate knowledge of their topology so someone shed some light on this.
When you log into the sites, do they run in a mobile version or desktop version?
I use dolphin, much better browser
How complex is your userid/password?
if it contains some symbols or similar, perhaps try a less complex one??
Simple Id and password. Problem w/ mobile as well as desktop version and I've tried dolphin...
I've logged in a couple of times after latest wipe, there's a slight chance the disruption coincides with me setting up yahoo in the email app. I don't know if that would explain anything but it wouldn't explain capitalone though both are currently working and the only thing I've done differently is not set up yahoo email..problem solved? I'm afraid to sign in and sign out too much to test it, I suppose ill find out sooner than later
I keep getting a uportal error on another site I've had no problems with on g1 or mytouch. From googling it I believe uportal error indicates a proxy issue can anyone elaborate or otherwise explain? The last time I messed with proxies was with g1. This seems to be set up a bit differently, or else I've forgotten where to find them...
same issue
experiencing the same issue. cleared all existing data on the phone, wiped/installed.
CM-5.0.4.1 w bits. Can't figure it out.
Hi all,
I'm having a problem with the weather update service on my phone - it hasn't updated since yesterday evening. WHat I have on my screen is "My location", which is the first time I've seen it - normally it picks up where I am with no problem. My other locations that I've set also aren't updating. When I click on update now, the phone thinks for a bit, then the message comes up "There was a connection error while attempting to download weather data. Retry?" I've looked in the forums, and it seems there has been a bit of an issue with this. I was wondering if anyone had found a fix, or is it a problem with the connection with Cell towers. I'm wondering if it has to do with the new radio version I have (2.06.51.07) that I got in my 1.66 ROM update. Any ideas?
Thanks,
David
i've struggled with this issue a lot but now everything is going fine, except for my location. i think i've found a good rom-radio combination for my area. my advice for you is to check what others in your area (and network) are running and do the same. or you could, of course, do some experiments yourself which can be useful and fun if you play safe.
Well, if there are any other South Africans out there who are having the same problem, would love to hear from them. Bit wary about flashing my ROM and radio - just did the 1.66 upgrade and took me a while to get my phone back how I wanted it.
i also hesitated at first but for my situation any action was better than no action. i backup my data using ms my phone and i keep the pictures, videos and the app kits on my sd card. so, it's not a such a big deal to restore the phone to my likings. it takes some time but it's an effort i don't mind doing considering the results.
Well, it seems to be working now. Not sure what changed...
Well, I've seen a lot posts about this and only once an answer. This answer took MUCH research and I really wanted to share this with everyone.
Problem: Market Downloads will blackout/close when doing any action then send back a previous screen - on CM5/Dr. Cloverdale's Magic Elixir (Eclair branch).
I wiped, wiped, wiped, reflashed, reflashed, reflashed, and repeated. NOTHING seemed to fix this. I searched for a while on here and on cyanogen forums. Even tried Google, but this is kinda hard to pinpoint on a search on Google. I've seen a lot of posts about this problem that proves it isn't just me having this. Most of them in the official cyanogenmod XDA thread, which who can actually follow that effectively? I also only found a solution for it one time by chance on cyanogen forums.
Solution: Open Google Talk.
Why this works? No idea. Anyone care to explain? I have tried this and can confirm it, and one other post on cyanogen forums confirmed it as well. Can't link - it was hard enough to find it the first time. However, anyone having this problem, try it. I posted this because I know many people don't search, and even with searching it took me a while to find the solution. Many people also don't speak up about issues, so I'm just sharing for the better of everyone.
I in no way claim to have found this solution, I just wanted to share with everyone. I COULD NOT update any application from market, and it actually forced me back to donut. Now that I found this, Eclair is actually usable.
Please post if you're having this problem and if this works for you or not. It took a while for it to happen to me, but I want to know if this is an actual solution or an odd coincidence.
It is because the market uses google talk to sign in.
Very interesting. Sadly, though, this is a temporary fix. Even after opening I still have problems with market doing same thing maybe 5 minutes later. :/
Well, FIRST time it worked perfectly. No problems rest of day. Now, it's just constant.
I bought my wife a new Epic 4G and she has been having problems downloading from the Marketplace. It seems to be a 3G,4G problem. Even Wifi doesn't start right away, yet does seem faster starting than 3g/4g. It does finally work after about 10 minutes. I know it is a phone problem, not a 3G/4g or Wifi problem, because I have an EVO, and at the same time downloading from the market with the EPIC, the EVO has no problems at all. I do notice once it has downloaded the first item, it seems fine for the rest of the day. The 3g was active before my wife went to the Market to download stuff. She had already received her email, so the connection was there.
Is anyone else having problems downloading from the Marketplace on 3G/4G or even wifi? If so, how do I fix the problem. I do have the latest update installed and it still didn't fix the problem.
The Epic seems to have some issue with logging into Gtalk randomly. I have experienced downloads that wouldn't start myself. Simply opening gtalk will log you in (most of the time) and the download will start almost instantly.

Missing Apps
Same issue here. Many Paid and free apps are missing. Bad deal since I need the phone for work and now I can't get my TouchDown Exchange Client working because it lost the key I paid for on the Market

For me it is not the issue where the download fails to start (though I have seen that too). This issue is that the apps are "not found" on the market place.
NOTE: I can see the apps from my EVO just fine, just not on the EPIC.
Evo is on froyo isn't it? Mabye they are protected apps and won't been seen unless you are running a phone with Froyo. Unless google hasnt registered I18 as a approved build yet.

Interesting... I notice that if I install(ed) a ROM (in this case Epic_Experience_v1.1.3) the apps are missing.
If I wipe the phone and restore a nandroid from a few days ago the apps show up.
Not sure what that means, but at least I can get back to using my email. Still learning all this ROM, Root, Kernel stuff.

I concur with these findings. I'm running Epic Experience 1.1.3 and if I search Market I can _not_ see such popular FREE apps such as Fandango, Where and Google Places Directory.
No idea why..

There have been several threads about this issue. Google has to take action in the Market to recognize the DI18 firmware as legitimate. (Perhaps Sprint has to take action to goose Google into taking action.)
This same problem occurred for several days after the last update.
See this post earlier at xda.
yeah this is pissing me off considering it all worked just a day ago...
I had my Epic rooted ever since I got it....the last few days it got sluggish and got bricked. I got it back to stock tonight and I can't upload apps either. I'm on the version ending in "7" when I went back to stock...if anyone can offer tips that is reading this would be greatly appreciated!!!
im getting annoyed by this GTalk sign in issue... not only I use gtalk alot but also market won't work without it.
I noticed I get signed off and loose connection almost every time I make/receive a call. Or sometimes just randomly.
Hey have you tried this?? I just did this below....
****UPDATE 4 hours later*******
so after screwing with everything I could possibly (clearing cache, resetting phone, rebooting countless times, etc) I logged out then back in to TALK using my gmail account and VOILA! everything downloaded.
Ok, so I've done some searching and I've found my problem is pretty widespread over a few different devices. However, it seems like no one has come up with a solution. My problem is this, SO a couple weeks ago I had the sync icon pop up in my notification bar. But then it didn't go away. I've tried looking on other forums for this solution but nothing yet. Thought I'd see if anyone here has the same problem and if possible, how to fix it. I can't help but think my battery life is suffering since it seems that since this started happening I notice the battery drain a bit faster than it used to.
I've tried several different possible solutions, except a reset. I loathe the idea of a reset, but if that's what I have to do then I will.
Running stock version. 2.2
Solution...
I decided to give up on my weeks long search for an answer online and called support today. Figured out it was the ooVoo application I had installed for video chat. It seems to keep your device in this perpetual sync mode even though you're not in that application. Once I deleted it the damned thing went away. My Tab, now with more battery power for Angry Birds.
