Hi everybody,
Stefano (the dev) and me are looking for a tester in USA, who can do a short test for us.
The apk is "phono" and can be found on Market for free.
We only want to know, if the signal strenght bar is working correct.
All further information about "phono" can be found here: phonoins.blogspot.com
Sure, the tester will also be named in the blog
Greetings from Germany
Sent from my MSM using XDA App
Works fine. 17 ASU indoors and 21 outdoors here at work (bar moves accordingly). Need any other info?
Works fine here (Washington DC) 2-3 ASU indoors and 20-21 outdoors following signal bars at top.
Droid Incredible, Virtuous 2.7 ROM, Kings #4 kernel.
Works fine on Droid2 on Verizon. Only small issue I saw was in the app on the top part it showed network as HSPA but in middle section it showed CDMA.
Tested in Colorado
HTC EVO
Sprint
Nation us 3100
Network type HSPA
Signal 99 asu 319%
-------------------
HTC HD2
AT&T
Nation us 310410
Network type EDGE
Signal 25 asu 80%
WOW!
Thank you guys!
That is all, what we needed. Phono is working with your frequencies. We did not know exactly.
Thanks again, for being so fast. RESPECT!
Take a look here guys: phonoins.blogspot.com/2010/09/thank-you-xda-members.html

I just got a second hand HTC Hermes locally here in the US. My signal bar is always bouncing between 1 and 3 in areas that are very strong. It is at ZERO bars in my house. I still have my XDA II and the signal is FULL in strong areas and 2 to 3 in my house. Is the Hermes normally not as good with signal strength compares to my XDA II ? Or is there something wrong with the Hermes since I got it used? Thanks.

Try using a different radio. Works better for me in areas my MDA got weak signals.
I was using the original ROM with radio 1.03.03.10 when I bought the phone. I just upgrade to ROM 2.11.255.1 with radio 1.38.00.10 . It didn't help my situation at all. What radio version is everyone using?
I have a genuine htc Hermes, live in Kentucky with T-Mobile service. I get a fantastic connection to the network - four bars inside my house and it can't get better outside. It does sometimes go down to 2 bars in areas with limited coverage, but predominately I have a great connection.
Radio version is 1.34.00.10. ROM is 1.21.116.4.
Hope that helps you.

For those who live in an area with HSPA+, I was wondering if it would show an H for HSPA+ (like e for edge, E for EDGE, 3G for well...,) on the stock ROM. Because I live in Los Angeles and it looks like T-Mobile is finally rolling out HSPA+ out here in their latest press release and would like to know what connection my phone is using. (Current ROM/Radio in my sig.)
I think you would have to load a custom rom or cab file for that. I still use the stock rom as well and only see 3g here in Tampa. Try doing a search.
i have a question live in nj and i know that hspa is in ny. i just did a speed test at speakeasy.net/speedtest and i got 3.29mbps download and 1.14 mbps upload. sorry i am a noob when it comes to this is this any good. not to mention tmo hasnt announced hspa in nj
i am also interested in knowing if angone does get an h cuz i only see 3g

Im in Tampa, one of the markets just officially announced as having HSPA+. HSPA+ was actually turned on here in Tampa last week. I had a Tmobile sales rep visit the company I work for yesterday and he confirmed it was turned on last Wed, I noticed the speed bump last Thur
However the indicator still shows 3g
I love how fast I can upload full 5mpix images to twitpic now, used to have to sit and twiddle my thumbs for about a minute or two. They seem to upload in about 30 seconds now. That was how I noticed the speed upgrade last Thur, I was literally like WTF an image has never uploaded that quick.

The stock tmo ROM won't display an "H"...you'll have to install one of the many available custom taskbar icon sets for it to show that. However, I have yet to see any confirmation that having the "H" displayed on your taskbar means anything other than just the fact your connection (i.e. your closest tower) is capable of HSPA7.2 or better...regardless of whether it has the backhaul connection to support it or not.
And since my first Energy rom 2 1/2 months ago it's switched between 3G and H all the time, way before HSPA+. Now speed is the only gauge to know if I have HSPA+ or just HSPA.
I'm currently just out of HSPA+ range north of Seattle... 2 miles south I get 5.7mbps speedtests, at home still suffer with 900kbps even with H and 4 bars showing.

I am going to guess that the ROMs that differentiate between 3G and H are probably showing 3G for UMTS and H for HSPA/HSPA+
so my hspa speeds are all over the place one Minute they are below 500kb/s the next they are over 2000kbs .. odd i say

Mine seem pretty consistently in the 2mbit download 1mbit upload, but ive seen spikes as high as 5mbit for download. probably all depends on how good the signal is in your area and the load on the cell tower that you are on.
That's what I was figuring sirphunkee (outside of just downloading a icon set to show H). Thanks all for your answers guys.
I have just tried a 4g Sim in my note 3 the status bar shows an h which is what it has always showed. It never showed 3g just h.
If I am connected to 4g what should that bar show an l for late or 4g?
I am in the UK and currently with three but testing ee's 4g service.
Thanks

You get a HSDPA+ signal if you're not in a 4G area, I am in the same boat, I am also with Three (waiting for their 4G service to come out before deciding weather to switch).

Cool but on 4G what should the status bar say?
On 3G it shows H rather than 3G so I don't know what it will show when correctly connected to 4G.
Thanks
It will show 4g.. see attached..

Three are piggybacking on EE's network for LTE, I am with them also, and EE have the fastest bands currently. So I expect the LTE to be spot on. Currently their signal strength has gotten really poor, I am hoping it's because they are swapping the bands to jump on EE.

Where did you hear that? As far as I'm aware, Three are building their own LTE network, though some of it will be spectrum acquired from EE.
Three did share it's 3g network with TMo/EE, but I've not heard that this is the case for 4g.

Dave

I first read it on a Three web forum, I was quizzing them about how the signal strength had suddenly gotten super poor. Can't remember which site it was I scoured so many as it was and still is annoying that signal barely goes over 2 bars even in a big city (Leeds)
As for the spectrum, they purchased some from EE but are running on their network bands (only intial start up maybe?) - EE 4G goes live here (York) this month and Three goes live January. So close together would assume that the starting of it would be on EE's spectrums until further?

The spectrum they bought from EE was in the 1800MHz band - the very same band than EE's LTE sits in.
So no. I don't think they will be using EE's network at all.

Dave

Three are not piggybacking on EE's network, they merely acquired some of the 1800Mhz spectrum from EE (That EE was forced to sell by OFCOM to get the go-ahead for their early 4G Rollout), supposedly Three got it for free as well. Three also acquired some 800Mhz spectrum during the auction, so they have both.
As far as I understand, Three aren't allowed to use all of the 1800Mhz spectrum they acquired until September 2015, but they can use 2x10Mhz of it now. I don't know which of the two blocks they're using for their current rollout, or if they're using both.
Never mind all of that, you should see 4G in the status bar if you're on 4G. Make sure you go into the settings and set the Note to connect to LTE/WCDMA/GSM services - my Three Note 3 didn't originally have that option and when it recently appeared, it was still on WCDMA/GSM.
Gents and occasional lady ,
first and foremost , i understand that i work out in the sticks so far that "normal" cell service is not gonna happen. I have 3 wilson boosters and 2 of them are 3g boosters. this is a two part q and it has to deal with my NOTE 3 which is why i am pasting it here. Do not know if xda has wilson threads. regardless its not really about the wilson. Q is : wiki for note 3 , quote , "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_3" indicates that the phone only has 4G radio , however the dumbasses do not understand that HSPA and HSPA+ is actually 3G / 3.5G. so , i AM getting boosted signal with my 3g boosters and i removed their stupid 4g lock on the notification bar. non modded phones only show 4G or no 4G. Mine indicates ALL radio signals recieved. So , I AM getting like .5 down .2 up.
I have tuned the antennas as best I can , need more equipment though , extender cables. BUT what im wondering is , with these 3G boosters , how can i get the baud rate's up ? I already have a yagi , and its tuned via gps to gps and calculated Azimuth between and found headings for antenna attinuation and aimed then tuned , dead on yeilds crap signal 10 degrees to the south resulted in .5 down and .2 up
http://www.att.com/cellphones/samsung/galaxy-note-3.html .
4G-LTE Band 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 17
4G HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul
UMTS/HSPA+ 850/1900/2100MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz
if you dont know what im asking , please dont waste my time with dumb remarks , im not as good as most guys on here, im not as smart in the hardware department . But i calcualte Azimuth for a living ...

Damn messed up the title lol. If a mod could change that to LTE-A
So that is in PA
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Been hitting 60+ in sw Houston area. 80 max. But consistently 30+ easily the last few days. Used to be 15-30 maxing out out at 40.
Southeast Hou. Im at 13-14
Honolulu here. 34mb DL. 12MB UL.
I live in Anaheim California which is on the list but am only getting 28.33 Download & 3.50 Upload, no difference from what I was getting when the Note 4 first came out
i would think this would help more with consistent speeds vs everyone getting higher speeds. Im sure if you are connected to the wideband lte you would see higher speeds during non peak hrs but i can definitely tell the difference in peak hours vs non peak hrs in ABQ NM. Ive seen as low as less than 1mbps down due to congestion and no, i wasnt throttled. Around 11pm, my speeds would jump up. It basically forced me to use my wifi at home due to such low speeds. Hopefully the wideband increase will help clear up congestion as the faster people load/download their data...the faster they can get through the pipeline allowing for a smoother flow. Considering youtube would stop qrtr way through the video due to buffering... i would hope this would fix some of those types of issues.
How do we know we are using LTA? Do you get a symbol on the phone? If so what does it look like? Screenshot maybe?

This is what I'd like to know as well. According to "LTE Discovery" I'm on Band 4 right now. The linked page shows that my city should be LTE-A active. My speeds haven't changed even a little. Mid-teens down, a handful up.
I was in Boston last week and was getting 70 mb down and 26 mb up.

Getting 62/22 in Metro Detroit on Band 4.
66 down and 27 up in bronx, new york. Will check the city when I get back to work Saturday. They should be faster there.

In Indianapolis, lte has stopped yesterday morning. Maybe they are updating our network. Can't wait.
The highest i got in Queens NY was 67/22 and 50/23 in Long Island.

Just type *#0011# in the dialer. When it is conection to band 12 you are on wideband.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Do you have to update modems or something to get it? I've been rooted since new and never took any of the updates.
I haven't seen anything other than band 4 locally.
This is the best I've done in town, but only the downtown area gets 4 bars. I'm usually 2 or less around most of the town.. This is versus what I typically get around my house.
When you go into the service menu by dialing *#0011# on the first line you will see Band 4 BW: 15MHz. When you have a connection of 15, or 20MHz you are using wide band lte.

This is correct. This is like a 4 lane highway instead of a single lane. This also includes the lowband spectrum 700mhz it baught from Verizon which is band 12. Band 12 is what travels far and through buildings. You might even get signal in an elevator because of it.

yep, same here in chicago land, getting 40 down and 20 up, in the basement of my house!
