OK, I don't get this at all and need a little help.
About two weeks ago I was locked out of my phone (a problem some of you may have seen posted more than a few time).
I am synched with the Exchange server here at work and they force out a password policy. After too many tries, soft resets and other the damn thing wiped ALL my data including my SD card.
Since then I have hacked the registry and disabled the lock policy (sorry MIS).
I had a LOT of pictures on that SD card (kids, family et al). Luckily I had off-loaded most of them just before the wipe took place, but I did lose quite a few save for about a week's worth.
Since reestablishing my "Album" and directing it to the SD card I am now saving pics as I had been (SD Card), but on my device there are these phantom images!
Some of them are pictures that I lost! I don't know how as they were being stored on the old SD card, but they are listed as on "my device" and every single one in their own separate folder (ie. 110C4E1, 14AE0F4B, etc.) listed when I go to the Album tab and then press "albums" again twice.
In addition, some of the photos are only thumbnail size while some are the originals in their full glory.
Added to this I see separate folders holding a multitude of pics from browsing and facebook!
I cannot find a centralized location to either recover the photos that I had lost and/or clean out the ones I don't need (it looks like browser cache).
I was able to send myself one of the photos by email and it had a ridiculously long name (40322_424045451143_521416143_4867882_1223745_n.jpg). This was one of the photos of one of my kids! I have it, but I want to find the directory where it resides and just can't even when using search features.
PLEASE NOTE: They are on my device, not my SD card as HTC was kind enough to send me a new SD card noting there have been some faulty ones about. The SD card in there is brand new.
There is no DCIM folder on my device as I store all my photos on my SD card.
Also note: after the wipe I did four hard resets...FOUR and these photos are somehow still in my device! I am thankful, but why are they there and how can I recover them?
Thanks for reading this far and hopefully some guidance will be forthcoming.
Any ideas on these photos?
I know that some of them are facebook avatars...where are those stored on the device?
I just need the path!

The other day I took a whole lot of pictures and wanted to transfer them to my laptop only to discover that they were all gone. Completely! The folder still exists but there are no pictures whatsoever. Everything else on the SD card is untouched. The pictures were there before, I looked at them on the way home.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm not sure what I did wrong and how this happened.
Does anybody know how to restore those pictures? I found some programs for data recovery but none of them work with SD cards inside PPCs.
Any help would be much appreciated!

UPDATE:
I just saw that the camera saves to the device but not to the SD car at all. Anybody know how to fix this?
Hanmin: GetBackData can't be installed on the Prophet and if I install it on my laptop there is no option to restore data on a device that's plugged in. At least I didn't find any...
This happend to me too. I don't know why. I could not recover my pictures. To allow the Camera function to save new pictures in the memory card again I had to delete the already empty 'My Pictures' folder in the memory card.
I looked at the Registry and found the paths in saveto for pictures and videos were different, I edited it to point to the memory card.
Jayxz: you're supposed to use the Data Recovery software on your PC, using a memory card reader to access the card.
You should be aware though, if you've used the card at all since the problem, you may have permanently lost your data.
You can find specialist apps to go through, sector by sector, finding jpgs etc, but if the original data is corrupted, it'll be messy.

i took pictures of a recent family vacation and organized them into albums in gallery. i know that the picture files went straight to the external sd card but when i organized them they were moved to the internal memory. are the raw files still in the external sd despite being moved? will a recovery sofware still find them? i made the mistake of wiping the internal sd so all the pictures are lost and the limitation of not being able to mount it makes it all but impossible to recover anything from there.
its pretty much impossible to recover anything on flash memory. I think you're scrwed
Unfortunately I think you're out of luck.
That sucks... you'll just have to take the vacation again.
By default they go internal and you have to tell the camera to store external... are you sure you moved them the other way around??
There are programs that claim they can help restore data from SD cards. Some are free, some are pay. The best advice I can give you is to do a Google search for such programs and look at reviews. It would not be appropriate to list them here due to rules. All of the ones that I have known people to try all give mixed results. Some work and some do not. Good luck.
I bought the Aquos (reluctantly) a couple of weeks ago and am not overall impressed, but am stuck with it for now...so am dealing.
But I have having major anxiety (OK, maybe just major annoyance) about the storage issue. I have a 64gb card attached and it is fairly useless. I can't move apps over since the firmware doesn't support app2sd (i think that is what i saw one Dev put on their site).
OK, so I downloaded ES File Explorer and I can move things between the device storage and the SD card easy enough, but as soon as I move images - the gallery won't show them anymore.. They are there... I can navigate to them from apps... But just not the gallery.
In my gallery you can see folders i moved onto the card via taking the card our and putting it in a reader. So I know the gallery 'sees' the card.
I have even moved and/or saved a file into one of the folders on the card that is already showing... And they don't show in the gallery.
Is anyone else having this issue? Or is this maybe just my phone.. (I have tried 2 different SD cards, a 32gb and the 64gb and get the same results)

I have used ES File Explorer for years and haven't had this issue, even on the Crystal...
Are they images that other Image Browsers can view also? If the Gallery app is set to default, clear it, and try viewing the photos with ES, Google Photos, or other apps when it prompts you to choose an app to display the pic.
If that fails, try formatting the card through the phone and moving the photos again.
I use quickpic always an it always registers when I move anything over through es.
Always is a loaded word... If it always worked then why isn't It still working?
Before you give up on this phone I think you should try my above post or something else. Instead of factory resetting the phone as a last resort I think you should do so anyways to see if that will fix the freezes you've been having.
My personal opinion is that you should see if your problems go away by trying X (whatever that might be). My philosophy is that if something is broken I try and fix it. If I can fix it I'll be cautious to not repeat the initial problem. If I can't, whether it's not worth fixing after evaluation or too expensive to do so, I can have a clear-ish conscious towards disposing of it. In the end this is my opinion and you can do whatever you want with your stuff.
Well in the past 4 years quickpic is THE ONLY gallery app I'll use. ES and Quickpic are the first 2 things I install on any new ROM and phone. As far as always goes I just said that because I have never had an issue with it or es.
I don't know what to tell you...
I too use ES as my file manager and previously used that to transfer most of my images to my SD card. After I installed Quickpic I was able to view all the images I transferred to my SD card.
Gallery image fail
format your sd card on a pc then reinsert it into your phone it should work then.

I had this same problem and with ES files. Look through you're files and if you find files " .nomedia " delete them . I still don't know how the .nomedia files got on my phone but soon as I deleted them all my photos in Gallery showed back up. No more problems with photos.
Back last February I had a problem with files named
.nomedia and they caused problems with my photos stored on my phone. After I realized it was nomedia files causing the problem I deleted all nomedia files and all was good until last week. Now the nomedia files are showing up again. I delete them only to have the nomedia files return. Delete the file and it shows back up in a different place,in a different file. It's always someplace on my SD Card and I can't get rid of it.
I'm not sure what to do?
My device is
SAMSUNG-SM-G925A

Thank you in advance for your time and help.

I'm noticing that I'm building up Image data even though I'm deleting every picture I take off of the device once it's uploaded to the cloud. However when I check the SD card storage the pictures are still there. Thumbnails as well. Hire can I fix this?
Bueller.... Bueller?
So far I've tried deleting data from Photos camera, and media storage to no avail.
I'm thinking it might have to do with the trash holding photos for 60 days before permanently deleting.

Not sure if you've done this, but with newest version of photos, you can go into Settings and select Free Up Space and then it'll look for already uploaded photo to the cloud and remove it from your device. I do this about every 2 weeks to free up the device. I recommend cross reference the photos between app and photos.google.com to make sure. Also have NAS locally to back it up too.
Hi,
I was installing an SD card in my neighbors phone (Samsung A520W Canadian version) and when transferring the pictures from the phone to SD card, I accidentally deleted the DCIM/Camera folder off the internal memory, losing about 2200 pictures. There were also two separate DCIM folders on the SD card and it appears I deleted the wrong one.
I ran DiskDigger, but unless the phone is rooted, it does not recognize the internal memory. I thought they may have been on the SD card, but they were not. DiskDigger did find a bunch of photos, but no the ones I was looking for.
I'd really like to get these back.
Regarding rooting, I have read conflicting tutorials. Some say rooting formats the phone, others don't mention it. If the phone is formatted, does that not eliminate my chances of getting anything back?
If the DCIM/Camera folder was deleted, is it even possible to retrieve the photos?
I checked the cloud, auto backup was not enabled.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has a viable solution. I don't have time to be trying different methods that may not work. I've visited so many sites, it's making my head spin. Most turn into an ad for some software product. I just want to get the pictures back.
I did make a complete backup of the phone using Android Studio. In addition I have tried EaseUs and others without success.
I appreciate your help.
