I can't believe HTC has not provided us with a way to edit the Home Screen Tabs. Yes I can hide/unhide them, but I want to add my other apps to it and have it to show up on the bottom row.
Is there another way to do this? Registry? I don't want to use 3rd party app to do this, but if it is needed then so be it.
Anyone?
you can remove and rearrange them, but not sure how to add to them settings>personalize>home screen tabs hope that sorts one of your problems fellow ford driver
Thanks. Yeah, I can remove/rearrange them, but no way to add other apps to it.
there are some 3rd party tabs you can add, manila tv, facebook, gps etc...
but you cant just add an app into the slider, that's what the quicklinks are for....

That's the point... HTC should have provided us with a feature to allow us to edit it.

Hello,
I was just wondering if there is a way to change the default 3 icons wide quick launch icons using the TMOUS stock rom? I've seen custom roms with 4 and I'm thinking this would suit me better but I dont really want to flash a custom rom until I find out more of what I want.
TIA.

One of the greatest projects to ever come out of XDA is "CoOkie's Home Tab Editor" (aka "CHT")...it will allow you to do all sorts of customization to the home tab on your stock ROM (and on many custom ones as well). It's a powerful tool, but dirt-simple to use. There's also an add-on known as "CoOkie's Home Tab Editor" which gives it even more functionality and flexibility. It's going to be the easiest way to make the kinds of changes you're wanting...links to the threads for both of those are below, and the screenshot shows the customizing I've done to my stock ROM, 90% of which was achieved with CHT and the editor...
CoOkie's Home Tab
CoOkie's Home Tab Editor
In the screenshot below, CHT/CHTE are responsible for the following:
-The location and layout of the quick link icons (you can have even more on the screen than that, if you want)
-The clock/weather size, style, and position
-The notification bar just below the clock...size and location as well
-The custom device (carrier) name just above the clock
And that's really just the tip of the iceberg with what you can do with it
Great advice. Works great. Many thanks.
After using this for a couple of days and getting all the apps where I want them, it would be amazing if we could do the same thing to our contacts instead of being limited to 15.

I have installed CHT and CHTEditor 1.7.11 and love the functionality that it adds, but one thing that I have lost is the ability to change the apps in the Home Tab itself. Does anyone else have this problem?

if you mean you can no longer apply quicklinks, you have probably ticked 'hide empty quicklinks'.
menu - cookies home tab editor - quicklink settings - hide empty quicklinks to off.
Hi is there a way to rearrange the app icons, I dont really care in what order but when you delete an app it leaves a space where the app used to be which looks weird.
Menu-button -> edit while in the drawer. Works just the way it does on the iphone from there on.

Thanks now I can drag them around but this still isnt that great if you have 7 or 8 pages each with a missing app in them takes a bit of fannying about to get thinks in order. isn't there an auto arrange or sorte by date/name etc?
still if not at least i can get things looking better so thank you.
It is strange how you can manually arrange the icons but there is no way to auto-arrange. Why not have some basic auto-arrange by alphabet name?
Is there a way to like arrange these by catagorie without having to arrange them yourself

Just curious if anyone knows how to change the primary shortcuts listed across the bottom of the screen? I dont like samsungs stock messaging, want to put handcent there instead. Also want to change the rest of them, except applications lol.

You cannot change the app dock in EPIC. Hopefully that feature will be added in the upcoming updates of GPS and Froyo.
As of now EPIC can't change apps on the dock. Cannot remove/add homescreens. Has basic music player and no eqaulizer as found in captivate and vibrant.

Does this not work?
Only thing I can suggest is ADW launcher or Launcher Pro (I use this). You can have handcent in the dock (I have it there).
Also, thank goodness the Epic 4G still has the Samsung Video player which looks so sweet! It also has the 5.1 surround sound button too

Thats because the Fascinate runs TW 3.0....the epic runs 2.5 due to landscape issues in 3.0 and you cannot change the apps in the dock on 2.5. I would definitely suggest ADW or Launcher pro, TW works great but it isn't customizable like adw or launcher pro and both work amazing as well

I was able to change my "Messaging" to Handcent by doing the following:
1) Go to Applications/Menu/Edit
2) On the primary shortcuts, press and hold the shortcut you wish to remove and drag it up by the rest of your apps. You should now have an open slot.
3) Find the Handcent icon and drag it down to the primary shortcuts bar.
4) Click Menu/Save
You should now have Handcent app as a primary shortcut.

This absolutely will work (personal experience doing this on both Froyo and GB stock). One note - you will need to make sure your applications are in "grid view" instead of "list mode" or you won't get the right menu options... at least that's what I recall.

yes, that will work now as we have a newer version of both android and touchwiz.
the post you are repling to is 18 months old. back then we had eclair with a jankier version of tw3.
we has had a come upance.
Worst. Necro. Ever.
I have many questions regarding any upgrades to touchwiz. Here they are:
Can you change the default homescreen to something other than the 4th one?
Is the music player changed? Can you resume from last application exit or does it erase the playlist? Is editing playlists easier?
Can you change the bottom 3 icons?
Can you customize the app list screen into your own sorting system? Can you change views?
Can folders sort alphabetically?
Are there additional widgets compared to Touchwiz 3.0?
Is the lock screen improved? Does it still have music player controls?
Are any other samsung custom apps changed i.e. calendar, alarms, etc.?
Thanks for any answers to these questions.

Not sure about the answers to all your questions, however i do know the answer to the first one.
Can you change the default homescreen to something other than the 4th one?- The default homescreen is the first homescreen in touchwiz, not the 4th, and as of now, there are no settings discovered which can change the defaults.
Our community can definitely fix that.
Will try to find out the other answers

No it is the first. You don't have to have all 7 screens enabled. For example I only have 4 so having it set to the fourth wouldn't always work
You can change the default homescreen.

How? I haven't found that option yet. You can move homescreens around but you couldn't, say start the homescreen on the 4th one and move left and right from there.
Yes!!! How? I will be very happy to know how i could i set the default home screem to the panel number 04. Tks
Nobody can help us?

Fair enough...
I don't have yet the phone but I saw a youtube vid showing the user changing the arrangement of the screen.
So just switch your desired home screen to the current default panel. I think what he did was he zoomed out until all the screens are displayed, then tap, hold, then drag.
The default homescreen is homescreen 1, the far left one.
Not really sure why the default homescreen matters though? It will stay on the one you last used until you switch to a different one anyway. Moving your homescreens around is pretty easy also with menu->edit.

I have one homescreen that has my emails and calendar. I would either like it hidden or with its own look screen. is there an app or a launcher that does that. i apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post.
I'm a little shaky on understanding what you mean. Are you trying to ask if you could have different wallpapers for each home page? Can you elaborate a bit more?

I have 3 homescreens. 2 are general, roughly divided by activities and contain and have no easy access to sensitive information. The third homescreen has my emails, my calendar, office access and has widgets to have the information visible on the homscreen. I don't want everyone who has access to the table to have access to those accounts.
When I am working on my tablet i like these things to be there and easily accesbile to me. Therefore, I would like to be able to either hide this homescreen - not accessible by casual presses or swipes, or separately lockscreen it. so even if the tablet is unlocked and active, say I hand it to a colleague, if they scroll through the homescreens, this one either wouldn't show, or would have a second lock screen, without showing the content of the real homescreen.
you can password protect individual applications. http://www.android-password.com/
I Know I can do that, but what i want to do is hide one of the homescreens that has widgets to those apps open.

I think I know what deecee52 is asking for, and I don't think it's possible, But I'd really like to thank you for that link
Not sure if it will help but you can simply install a second launcher and set it up with the widget/app you want to hide and create a invisible shortcut (in the corner of a screen or something).

thats why i gave the link and the alternate idea, because at this time i dont think you can lock an entire home screen without that functionality being built into the launcher itself
Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of Regina 3d, although it doesn't seem to be on the market anymore.
I've thought of two browsers and widgetlocker, not sure if it will work. Hoping one of our crack devs might look into this for one of the launchers
Hi,
you might have some luck looking into the hide calls/sms/apps on the market to see if they have a setting that would allow you to do what your looking for. there are several ones that you could try but please read them carefully because i do know that with some if you lock something (say a photo) this way and forget the password you will not be able to access your information/pics/sms files etc you've locked. all of these are avail in the market & range from free-$12 (loky)
extreme call blocker, lock, secrets, horizon, secret phone settings & loky
not sure if any of these will do what you want but what your asking for to my knowledge can only be done with Regina 3d as meantioned already...which is a great app btw
Also take a look into child protection type apps. I did come across Smart lock 2.0 which seems rather close to what you had described.

thanks for the child safe approach. As I said the Regina Launcher is very attractive and the separate workspaces get pretty close to what I would like. It does not yet play well on tablets as it is only in portrait mode. I will definitely report back when I have had time to play around with some of these ideas.
