How to re-arange apps (icons) - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi is there a way to rearrange the app icons, I dont really care in what order but when you delete an app it leaves a space where the app used to be which looks weird.

Menu-button -> edit while in the drawer. Works just the way it does on the iphone from there on.

Thanks now I can drag them around but this still isnt that great if you have 7 or 8 pages each with a missing app in them takes a bit of fannying about to get thinks in order. isn't there an auto arrange or sorte by date/name etc?
still if not at least i can get things looking better so thank you.

It is strange how you can manually arrange the icons but there is no way to auto-arrange. Why not have some basic auto-arrange by alphabet name?

Is there a way to like arrange these by catagorie without having to arrange them yourself

aditional pulldown "tray"?

The notifications tray is great, easily pops down most of the time and the apps tray (with ALL the apps) is just as nice.
But i would like a extra tray for settings and/or favorite apps instead of clogging the "desktop" with shortcuts.
like a tray that flips out from the side of the screen.
is it even possible to add a off-screen container such as the above mentioned dropdown/up trays?
and if yes, are there any available at this time?
I know this isn't going to answer your query, but what is wrong with just populating one of your home screens with shortcuts?
I mean, if you do this with one of the screens either side of the "centre" home screen, you effectively get what you require.
Regards,
Dave
I do use the screens as placeholders for my everyday apps, but most of the time i need a app thats on another screen, meaning i have to go look for it.
With a pulldown tray that would pop out from the side, i could keep my most used apps more conviniently located, just a tap away, instead of 1 to 6 swipes away.
since the apps and notifications are dropdown/up i feel its missing dropdown left/right, witch is the real reason im wondering.
it would be great with apps on one side and settings on the other, then i wouldnt use more than one or two homescreens for widgets only.
I seem to recall one of the home replacement apps had this...I can't recall which.
I know, what you mean.
It's not so nice, to put hundreds of widgets and Shortcuts on the screen.
I don't like it on Windows Desktop, too.
Therefor, I have loaded Apps Organizer from Market.
I put my Apps in 5 Folders, sorted.
Is that something to try for you?

I love it, really.
Perfect thanks

I recently converted from a strictly WinMo user to Android and having struggled to find apps stored on my phone because of a lack of folder organisation, am thrilled to find this app. Many thanks!

actually you can do that with the stock sense widgets, as there are folders for the homescreen. afaik they don't support custom icons though.

HD2 Android gurus. Is it possible to change folder icon?

Is it possible to change folder icon from the default "folder" looking icon to something else? Is there an icon app? Thanks.
metamorph can change things like that. there is also another program i just forgot the name at the moment.

Solution found guys. There is an app on Market called "Folder Organiser Lite". Got everything customized through that app. Hope this helps those that were in my shoes.
I believe it only change shortcut icons, every icons in app drawer still the same.

You create "Labels" which equate to folders and then add apps to that label/Folder and assign an icon to that label/folder. Worked for me.

[Q] App to lock individual home screen

I have one homescreen that has my emails and calendar. I would either like it hidden or with its own look screen. is there an app or a launcher that does that. i apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post.
I'm a little shaky on understanding what you mean. Are you trying to ask if you could have different wallpapers for each home page? Can you elaborate a bit more?

I have 3 homescreens. 2 are general, roughly divided by activities and contain and have no easy access to sensitive information. The third homescreen has my emails, my calendar, office access and has widgets to have the information visible on the homscreen. I don't want everyone who has access to the table to have access to those accounts.
When I am working on my tablet i like these things to be there and easily accesbile to me. Therefore, I would like to be able to either hide this homescreen - not accessible by casual presses or swipes, or separately lockscreen it. so even if the tablet is unlocked and active, say I hand it to a colleague, if they scroll through the homescreens, this one either wouldn't show, or would have a second lock screen, without showing the content of the real homescreen.
you can password protect individual applications. http://www.android-password.com/
I Know I can do that, but what i want to do is hide one of the homescreens that has widgets to those apps open.

I think I know what deecee52 is asking for, and I don't think it's possible, But I'd really like to thank you for that link
Not sure if it will help but you can simply install a second launcher and set it up with the widget/app you want to hide and create a invisible shortcut (in the corner of a screen or something).

thats why i gave the link and the alternate idea, because at this time i dont think you can lock an entire home screen without that functionality being built into the launcher itself
Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of Regina 3d, although it doesn't seem to be on the market anymore.
I've thought of two browsers and widgetlocker, not sure if it will work. Hoping one of our crack devs might look into this for one of the launchers
Hi,
you might have some luck looking into the hide calls/sms/apps on the market to see if they have a setting that would allow you to do what your looking for. there are several ones that you could try but please read them carefully because i do know that with some if you lock something (say a photo) this way and forget the password you will not be able to access your information/pics/sms files etc you've locked. all of these are avail in the market & range from free-$12 (loky)
extreme call blocker, lock, secrets, horizon, secret phone settings & loky
not sure if any of these will do what you want but what your asking for to my knowledge can only be done with Regina 3d as meantioned already...which is a great app btw
Also take a look into child protection type apps. I did come across Smart lock 2.0 which seems rather close to what you had described.

@htccraze
thanks for the child safe approach. As I said the Regina Launcher is very attractive and the separate workspaces get pretty close to what I would like. It does not yet play well on tablets as it is only in portrait mode. I will definitely report back when I have had time to play around with some of these ideas.

Arranging Apps

Hey guys,
Is there an app that auto arranges the app drawer or a way to arrange the app drawer on my desktop somehow?
Thanks
I recommend https://market.android.com/details?id=com.abcOrganizer&hl=en been using it now ages and can access all my apps instantly after you arrange them in whatever order you want them to be in.
The main thing is that I really hate arranging apps in the normal app drawer... it takes forever. I'm looking for an fast and easy way to do it.

Which launcher do you use?
If you're using touchwiz you can try "AppZorter" in the market.
I'm using touchwiz. Just making sure I'm clear: I am looking to clean up the app drawer and not the screens.

If what you mean by clean up is to alphabetize and fill in the gaps found in the app drawer then the app I recommended earlier (AppZorter) will do the job for you.
Appzorter. Case closed.

YES!
Everything you're searching for is waiting inside the database (-files)
Just backup once you arranged your apps and simply restore after each firmware flash...

Another simplest way is Home screen -> Applications -> Menu -> List view.
It will arrange all ur apps view alphabetically.

Is there a faster way of creating folders than dragging and dropping?

Just downloaded like 100 games, is there a way to select all those apps and create a folder?
Also, I have a blank screen that I don't need. Is there a way to remove that? Like I have an extra panel.
Thanks

not unless you're using a custom launcher. i use TSF shell UI, and that has a lasso tool that lets you just highlight up to 20 icons at a time to drag into a folder, or you can double tap as many icons as you'd like to move into a folder.
and if its anything like android for phones, pinch to zoom out of the home screen and it should show you all the screens. just drag the spare panels you dont need to the trash can to the bottom.

I use Folder Organizer by Fabio from the market. Not sure if it works on JB or N7 as I'm still waiting on mine to arrive. It puts all apps in a list and you put them under a label and just go down that list and check them off. You can also use custom folder icons.

That's a standard feature of many 3rd party launchers and ROMS ...
