Vote for Galaxy S - Galaxy S I9000 General

Its right now going against the EVO...obviously Galaxy S is winning but EVO is catching up so might as well insure victory >.>

I put my vote in
Come on all Galaxy owners, kick this Evo where it hurts lol
no need to register or anything, just follow the link, click galaxy and vote

Voted (for Galaxy ofc).

Just voted for Sammy... this is a close one!
Galaxy S vs EVO 4G
Network: 3.5G vs 4G (SGS have an American Big Brother EPIC 4G)
LCD Size: 4" vs 4.3"
Screen Tech: SAMOLED vs TFT LCD 65K
Processor: Hummingbird vs Snapdragon
OS: Eclair(not for long) vs Froyo
UI: Touch Wiz 3 vs Sense (user preference)
Accelerometer: 6 axis vs 3 axis
Camera: 5 Meg w/o flash vs 8 Meg w/ flash
Vid Codecs: MP4/DivX/WMV/H.264/H.263 vs MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV9
TV Out: DLNA, 3.5 audio/video jack vs HDMI

Weird winners in the championship. Somehow Nokia's N900 beats a HTC and Blackberry device and you've got the X10 beating a Desire and possibly a Droid.
Galaxy S should win comfortably. Only real competition for it is the Evo.

Voted also, plus recommended the link to a couple of friendly clients who I convinced to buy SGS's to manage their web site ;-) Heh.

Just voted for Galaxy its 55% for galaxy

Done ...

Samsung Galaxy S 56.37% (841 votes)

voted for the Galaxy!

EVO is starting to catch up..need some more votes :/

Is it just me or is it accepting multiple votes? I voted from my phone this morning and was just able to do it again now. Who knows...

Voted! Samsung Galaxy S of course

I only voted for the Galaxy S because the EVO is US only. But next round, I wont be voting because I probably wont have had enough experience with the other phone to make a proper decision

Also, conflicting reports on the CPU. Gizmodo and that press sheet say A8, Engadget says A9. My money is on the same Hummingbird that's in the Galaxy S though.

If it goes into the $500 range, they are in the ipad range then. I dont think they can compete with the ipad unless they offer more (which they do) for less!
So, my guess is $399.
yea $399 seems like a fair price..
Apparently a finnish press release (by email) set the price to 949€ (~$1200)... Which is somewhat higher than the "fair" price you wish for... I doubt they will sell very many if that's accurate. And it pisses me off that they didn't toss in a 1280x720 screen... I don't care if Android doesn't support the resolution.. It's not like it's impossible to make it support it, it's OPEN SOURCE.

Phones are phones....look at the iphone, it costs more than the ipad!
Samsung will not make a single dime if they price it more than any ipad!
$399 or less otherwise it will be a big bust for a 7" tablet!
What would be even better is a non-GSM version for $299 so that every Galaxy S user can buy one and teether it when needed.
I thought I wouldn't get the urge to buy another device for a while.... 32GB! of internal storage? 1024 x 600 Resolution? I hate this
Let's see... Europe will get it first, so I could buy that one and be limited to only 1900mhz 3g of AT&T, but it will be easy to switch from sgs phone (take out sim card, put it in tab, done!).
Or I could wait for the verizon version, and probably get skype with it like all the other verizon android devices. But I already have AT&T contract....
Or I could wait for the Canadian Bell version, but I haven't heard anything about that.
A confirmed price and release date would be nice from them.
MORE IMPORTANT:
- This equipment is very similar to our SGS and will be updated to Gingerbread (Android 3.0)
- Someone from Samsung mentioned they're working already in Honeycomb (Android 3.X)!
Long life to SGS is garanteed!
BTW: Did someone find any benchmark figures from the SGT?
Well not really samsung wants to sell phones not software.guess it's for their new flash ship
Just think about how many people will buy it if they think they will get amdroid 3.
So by then samsung can change their mind because the customers paid already.

No, iPad is $640 range sans for the 3G, (there are some reports there will be a wifi-only but I happen to believe the reports that all will have a cell radio, even if coming disabled by default unless sold by a carrier...end part my speculation):
a camera, let alone two
dual band wireless N
expandable storage
pixel density (sacrficing screen size, but increasing holdability and portability)
flash support
...no point in going on, they are going all out, Apple held something back
form factors & OS to be argued, but I think Apple-Central (Engadget) themselves said they like this one for it's one-handed possibilities, better for e-reading due to the pixel density, weight and form factor
I can tell you that it's main competitor in Korea is coming in at less than $300 US without a contract and free on contract (less than $30/month wi-bro contract). This is definitely a better device, but if we can see other non-Apple's doing cheap then we can see this having great options as well.
I definitely expect this in the 400-500 range, $500 is a bit of a shame for people that will go without a data plan, but it is what it is and adds future flexibility.

They won't price these based on exchance rates, that's not how the market works, they price these to what the customers can bear. For example, in England the iPad starts at 429 pounds, in Germany and France the iPad starts at 500 Euro, in the U.S. it starts at $500 USD. Expect Samsung to price according to market as well, and for this to be 400+ Euro.

The iPhone costs more than the base iPad, you are looking at subsidized pricing versus non-subsidized pricing...there's a difference. Again, comparing this to an iPad isn't correct on many levels. First, some people have never been interested in the iPad even if they are mildly or majorly tickled by the idea of having a tablet device. Next, for those who want the GSM version, $400 would be more than $200 cheaper than the iPad, the iPad would be priced more than 50% higher than this! They don't need to undercut them that much, look above and feel free to comment back.
As far as "teethering" goes I swear I've read teethering like 3 times in 2 weeks, is this a new internet meme (anyone can answer and sorry for being slightly off-topic, I'm not the grammar police, just trying to be educated on what's hip )

Ooo, now I get to ask my question. I love the Galaxy S, but how many people with a Galaxy S are in the market for this device? I'm really curious, I'd be more tempted by their other offerings in 2011 which will be more feature packed and give me more screen real estate (read, less redundant). I do think the device is sexy, but right now I don't see myself buying one, but am open-minded and want to hear opinions on both sides.
i'll be a nice companion for our phone, to replace a laptop
Cool maybe for the galaxy as well then

The screen is based on TFT, instead of AMOLED, which Samsung uses on some of its smartphones. The concession was made to lower the cost of the product and improve battery life, which should last up to eight hours, according to Samsung.
On the front is a 1.3-megapixel camera for video calls or conferencing, and on the back a 3-megapixel camera with a LED lamp. The Tab weighs 380 grams, and measures 19 centimeters by 12 cm by 1.2 cm.

with that screen and camera short coming, i think i'll stick with the Phone version better
If it had Super AMOLED display + 1GB RAM and got 2G+3G removed, I'd be very interested.
However, I think tablets should get cheaper. I mean... netbooks are getting cheaper day by day and you can buy a decent one with $250-300. I know that tablets are more portable and time-efficient since they don't need booting, but the pricing isn't attractive at all.

Samsung Infuse 4G

This is an addition to the Samsung Galaxy S Family, it's a shame it doesn't have a dual-core processor for me it's a no-go!
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/...ounced-for-atandt-4-5-inch-super-amoled-plus/
but it gets rid of the PenTile matrix
This phone isn't a sucessor... It's a Galaxy S, as Fascinate, Captivate and many others... It's announced like "Galaxy S"...
Samsung is really going to have to step up their game if they want to compete with the Motorola Atrix. MWC is sure going to be interesting this year!

[RUMOR] Galaxy SII "Plus" for US Markets

Recently, there's been a rumor going around saying that there will be a Galaxy SII Plus or Galaxy S3 that will be released with the iPhone 5 launch.
The new Galaxy SII plus would feature a 1.4 GHz dual core processor and possible upgrade on the screen resolution.
This one article kinda sums it all up.
Maybe the delay is because the phone needed some more upgrades to fight with the iPhone 5 (although I think the current Galaxy SII beats the speculated specs for the iPhone 5). Remember the SGSII passed FCC in April?
I would love an upgraded Galaxy SII on Sprint!
http://www.headlinesnews.net/15165/further-delays-suggest-samsung-galaxy-s2-‘plus’-for-us-market
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus or S3 is rumoured to boast a 1.4GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, along with the ever-popular Super AMOLED screen and TouchWiz user interface. The original S2 has already gained a massive following overseas, currently selling in volumes across the UK in excess of the iPhone 4.
As such, an upgrade to an already superb unit could be just what Samsung need to deliver the extra ‘wow’ factor required to give the iPhone 5 a run for its money. Of course, attempting to better the iPhone 5 is akin to grasping in the dark, but it certainly seems that Samsung have every intention of setting the bar for the market, and setting it rather high at that.

No Galaxy S2 on Verizon: foreshadowing Nexus Prime?

http://tinyurl.com/44p7rck
(Engadget)
This was a major bummer to find out as my girlfriend and I were seriously considering switching to a GS2 once it's released. Lucky for her, she's on AT&T so once the announcement drops it won't be long till she has a fancy new device. However it seems I'm SOL... Or am I?
Initially I didn't quite understand this as the SGS2 is one of the most anticipated devices to be released in the US ever since the unanimous praise overseas. After thinking about it and taking note of the comment in that story that they have a similar device in the works, one must wonder if this non-SGS2 mystery phone is the rumored Nexus Prime. I believe I read that its being manufactured by Samsung like the Nexus S was, so this increases the possibility of the rumors being true; Verizon may be the first carrier to receive the Nexus Prime.
Or it could be something like the Continuum and we'll be stuck with lackluster devices till the Vigor!
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
Yeah, this news is disappointing for VZW customers. The SGS2 is a really nice device. The only thing I don't like is its 480 x 800 resolution and Touchwiz UI. Custom roms will get around the UI, but nothing can help the low res.
With the HTC Vigor & Nexus Prime both rumored to drop in October, they'll definitely be the best devices on the market (for maybe a week ). With, at least, the Vigor definitely coming to VZW, I don't think we'll miss the GS2 all that much.
Lets just hope the Prime makes it through to VZW as well.

+1! They took my unlimited data away on two of my lines when I switched the devices on those lines, I switched them from "feature" phones to smartphones, so I'm going to see if they change it back or else I'm switching to Sprint. I did not know they did this until I got my bill.

Worth Upgrading From Galaxy S3

I love my Galaxy S3 as it handles all the stuff that i want. But after S4 is launched i am knda confused whether to upgrade to Galaxy S4 as it is worth it or not? so what are your opinions about that?
Right now I honestly don't think so. It has a lot of cool features, but most of them are software related. The phone isn't a big enough jump from the s3 (for me) hardware wise to justify paying full retail for it.
Says on CNET that software features will also come to the S3. I guess we just have to wait unless someone can adapt the S4 rom to the S3.
AW: Worth Upgrading From Galaxy S3
If you got some cash to burn and want to always have the latest and greatest I think it is worth.
If none of these things apply to you then keep the S3. I take care of a S2 and apart from the screen resolution it is still cool.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Nope, not worth the upgrade.
Same question here, I'll wait for the reviews before deciding whether to upgrade or no.
Isn't really a jaw dropping Samsung Flagship Device
Well for me, it definitely was not a surprise to have a glimpse of the Galaxy S4 at that, much melodramatic, musical event.
As far as the design is concerned, iPhone 5 and HTC One are definitely ahead of the S4.
Body Casing: The Galaxy S4 is crafted from poly-carbonated material while the OmniBalance design with which the Sony Xperia Z is equipped seems more attractive.
Display: The S4 has a 441 ppi display which lags behind the HTC One display which stands at 468 ppi. Even the resolution is matchable with the HTC flagship phone!
Samsung Hub: Sorry for this mate too. Nothing's better than the BlackBerry Hub, at least for now.
So overall, this phone is not the supreme king of the smartphones which exist today. I would say that at this moment, this was not required and the Sony, HTC and BlackBerry flagship devices are definitely a better option for you.
I'm thinking of selling my galaxy note 2 to buy an s4 is it worth it. I love the note 2 but I also like having the latest phones. I have an s2 still and love it. I'm always changing ROMs as i do with my note and have had no problem with them at all hmmm decisions decicions ?

Design is subjective, and after owning the beautiful, and well built Nexus 4, I have to admit that I'm missing the plastic I had on my Galaxy Nexus. My Galaxy Nexus survived countless drops, and still looks almost new. I've been extremely lucky with my Nexus 4.
PPI means nothing. They both have 1920x1080 displays, the SGS4 simply has a larger 4.99" panel while the HTC One has a 4.7" panel.
The international version is ahead of both the HTC One and iPhone 5 with its Exynos 5 Octa, and more importantly its PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU that's clocked at 533mhz.
It is really not worth upgrading at all - software things are coming to SGS4 - nothing new.
Hardware - also nothing :\
Buy a new computer/TV or something or wait till the next galaxy. Try HTC maybe (something different).
Im only upgrading because I have a Verizon SIII and I'm leaving the US in 3 weeks. I'm gonna need an international version although the VZW SIII works overseas.

Not upgrading for at least six months from now, will wait for all good reviews and then decide.. Also, considering first round of price drops..
If someone has an s3 then the upgrade is not worth immediately...
If coming from any other phone.. S4 will be a good option...
Imagine s4 without comparing it to s3...then you will see it to be a marvellous piece of gadget.. That's my verdict...!

I don't think I will be upgrading to the 4. But it still has some time to redeem itself from that idiotic joke of a keynote.
Just waiting for the reviews.
If you have the $$$ and dont care how much you spend I'd say go for it. I'm pretty content with my GS3 so I'll hold off upgrading for now
For people like me with a 2011 phone, I'd say it is definitely worth upgrading to. But for people with HTC one x/s3/other top phones of 2012 just wait until something better comes out at CES 2014

Depends on your carrier. If I was a betting man, I'm betting the radio on the Verizon one sucks so I'd be more likely to pick the DNA. That being said if by some miracle after more than one useless Samsung phone on Verizon e.g. Galaxy Nexus, if the receiver/antenna is actually fixed I would consider it as the PDA side of their phone is great. If you are on another carrier besides Verizon the phone might work well. It seems like Samsung hates Verizon for some reason.
