[Q] Xperia X10 issue - XPERIA X10 General

I bought a new SE Xperia X10 thru AT&T, tried rooting it but couldn't complete it properly. I tried to reset the device but that didn't help.
Now the phone says, it has an operating system for SO-01B and won't even show a keyboard (virtual) to type anything. Also, I couldn't update the software again using SEUS as I get the message that there are no new updates for your phone.
Any suggestions to reinstall the operating system all over again in original condition?

Öhm, yes you should download the NEW files. If your phone is SO-01b the files that you used are the very first that was available! (A few month ago )
Please download the new files and stick the guide:

If you have an AT&T version of the X10a it should have R2CA016 as the OS version. I have decrypted that version and created a recovery install for it. It is 134mb zip file so I can't share it here. I posted in the Decrypted ROM thread but no response from the OP yet. Send me a PM and maybe we can figure out a way for you to download it. It is basically the "debrick tool" with the AT&T files already merged. You will have to determine your device id but everything else is complete.
Also, I recommend using the one click apk to root your phone. You can install the apk using ADB and it does work on the AT&T X10a version.

Thanks for the help - I'm a little naive when it comes to acronyms, help me understand what you mean by PM here?

PM is Private Message! lol

If you still want to root I recommend universal androot. It roots your phone in one click and is pretty much an app that does it for you with no fuss or complication and it should hopefully allow you to root it again once 2.1 is released as it let's you choose which superuser version to install.
It also gives you the option of being able unroot your phone if you wanted to.
I can't post a link but a google search will come up with the goods.
I'm using it and it works great hope this helps

[Q] Any way to Get root Back?

I just rooted my phone the other day and of course the night I go out and leave the phone at home the g/f has to use my phone. Well it said OTA and she thought it was something I didn't finish and, yup u guessed it she gave me the update. I lost root as you know and now is there any way for me to get root back at this point?. I have a HTC Espresso 3g slide with T-Mobile and any help would be appreciated a lot. I was all set to do my ROM today and now this. Go Figure...
Not At this time no.

i forgot where i read this, but i read in theory that the Droid X method to root should work on any previous android phones, jus needs to be changed for the phone..
This method i did use for my N1 and it worked great! some one was able to make it work for the n1 hopefully some can do the same for the Slide
I looked into this method and yes it should work I have the files and ill upload them and post them in a new thread and see if we can get it to work.
I works off of some exploit in the working android system to trick the device into trusting the su and superuser.apk and busybox as android systems files and installing them, has to do with bluetooth and wifi exploit it least that's what I understood

Ace I have a quick question if I may. Since I didn't RoM my phone before it was updated I was curious if you just lost root or did it put you back to stock 2.1 - update1? I am new to this and any place I can learn a few things I try to. We all had to start someplace

It was already on stock firmware, i manually updated my phone since i was having trouble rooting it. It wouldnt say offline in rec mode, but i tried it after the update with a new sd card and it says offline now...But it doesnt matter since root is blocked anyway..

Well I have been looking everywhere looking for a fix for this and it seems right now that you and I are the only ones that this has happened too. I'm sure there are others. Just for a lack of something to do I have been trying all sorts of things but nothing has worked so far. If I find a fix I will post it here to help out of course. Sooner or later someone will come up with one since all the phones being sold now or people that haven't rooted yet will need new root.zip files I would think.

YUP this method would be great!, but to let you know this method does not fully install BusyBOX! learned this yesterday lol
when your in terminal or adb shell and do "cp" cmd it will give you not found.. but i found this script to fully install it after root
http://zedomax.com/blog/2010/07/07/android-hack-how-to-install-busybox-on-your-android/
if you wanted to do a "cp cmd" you would have to do "busybox cp"
I just posted a hot to in dev section that will walk you thru downgrading and easy root vs loop method.

my X10a isnt updated to latest build number?

hello
from what i have been reading build number should be R2BA026.
mine is still R2BA023, is this normal?
i have ran SEUS, and the "software update" on my phone and they all show its updated
Are you branded or unbranded
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Yes its normak if you have a brandet version. That means your carrier need to send out the firmware to seus. They maybe just eaitet fir the android 2.1 update. Instead of rolling 26 aswell

mate, u will either need to debrand completely, or flash your phone with a different ROM
(or is that basically the same thing !) i flashed my optus branded x10 with global generic (i think its UK or Nordic) and all is good.
another benefit of this is that u wont have to wait for Helstra to get their finger out and have a 2.1 branded ROM for you. if you have a generic rom, then you get the 2.1 update as soon as its available (via seus obviously)
cheers, tim
edit: when you run SEUS - it checks what version you have (telstra) and then looks in the dB for the latest telstra rom available. telstra have only published/released up to the version you are running, therefore "no updates available". If you were running a generic version, when you connected up to SEUS it would be looking for a different version. hope that is a bit clearer
if i completly debrand it, and something happens to it, can i just brand it again and send it back, kinda like. rooting then un-rooting ect
?

Also does you optus My account widget works in your phone, coz mine doesn't show data usage.
I contacted optus to find out why and they had no idea that we got a widget in the first place

sure can mate, look at the decrypted ROMS page in the DEV section. But unless something serious goes wrong, you will never load a telstra rom on it again

right, im gunna want a bit of confirmation from others here....been a while since i did this.
using Bin4ry's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907 i grabbed the latest files from the fileshare websites listed. basically the files that Bin4ry and the other guys have created are a script (batch files) that prompt you step by step. i know the method is called ROOT but its the same process. To ROOT in this original method, you had to flash back to an older revision of the firmware and then update. When you flash back to the older version, it is a generic version. Then you can simply use SEUS to update to newest. KEEP IN MIND that doing ANY kind of firmware update will completely erase anything on the internal memory. This is NOT the sd card, so pics and such will be ok but contacts - msgs - settings will all be gone. might be best to do the one-press root, install titanium backup first and then backup your phone book and other important apps that you may have.
main thing is to ask questions. there are sh!tloads of ppl on here with heaps of knowledge. be safe in the knowledge that you cannot, CANNOT completely screw your phone. you can always flash another firmware back onto it using SEUS. once ppl hack the bootloader, this will be a different story but until then just get in there and have a go
good luck and happy modding!!

main reason that you would root first is so you can use titanium backup to backup your apps and settings. You will still need to flash to a non branded firmware, jerplea has a few ROMS on his posts, probably best to have a look in those threads and ask the masters

when you say wont work....what do you mean? When running the flash tool are you following the prompts on screen? you need to have USB Debugging enabled on the Settings=>Applications=>Development enabled. let me kow where it is failing and we might be able to get it working for ya....if you are still keen anyway
just been reading through the original post from Bin4ry again (the flashing/rooting one)....i think that you should post on it exactly where the problems are, where it is failing and what you are doing. There are several active users on there that are very knowlegable on flashing

it sounds like a java problem actually.....do you have java installed?
what OS are you on? if its Win7 64bit (or Vista 64bit), there is a 64bit java fix that you need to run also. have a look at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713457
if you are on a 32bit machine then chances are its a deviceID issue but from what you have posted above - it looks like the java problem.

will check it out though soon thanks

How to Change carrier specific (Videotron) firmware to original Google firmware?

Hey everyone,
I just bought myself a brand-new Nexus One from eBay. I noticed that the Nexus One I have was originally purchased from Videotron in Canada and it has a carrier specific firmware.
Now my phone is currently sitting on Froyo 2.2 and when I checked for update the phone just says no update available.
This is what I see under "Menu-->Settings-->About phone"
Android version : 2.2
Core version : 2.6.32.9-27227-g3c9b0d [email protected] #1
Build number : 2.16.405.1 CL223106 release-keys
The phone never been rooted or hacked, it still has the original Videotron tweaked firmware.
My question is:
1. How do I flash my phone to the original Google firmware, so that I don't have to wait for an update?
2. What is the easiest method to root the phone for a Mac user?
3. I used to be an iPhone user and it was very easy for me to back-up the whole contents on the phone and restore them back. Is there an easy way, like a program similar to iTunes that can do this for my Nexus One (back-up the whole contents on the phone, for example my contact, SMS, music, and etc)?
4. Is there a way to install swype without rooting the phone?
Thank you for all you help
[Q] Change carrier specific (Videotron) firmware to original Google firmware.
1: It's easy, but will wipe your phone.
Download this: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Pas...le_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_MFG_Shipment_ROM.zip
Extract it, and rename the extracted file to passimg.zip and place it on the root of your SD card. Power the phone off, hold Vol- and power it on again, it will detect the file and ask if you wish to install. Install it, reboot and wait for an OTA to the newest Google version (FRG83D currently).
2: To root, you can unlock the bootloader, or take your pick of apps to do it for you, it's all very straight forward regardless of you being a Mac user
3: Nandroid backup from custom recovery after rooting, it does the phone's entire state.
4. Yes, you don't need root at all.
It depends if you wanna unlock the bootloader, which will void the warranty!
If you don't care about warranty, do it that way it will be much easier.
If you wanna keep your warranty, follow my tutorial on my website: http://gravufo.kicks-ass.org/android.html
NOTE: When following the tutorial, do NOT download the ROM I am telling you to download, it seems to have issues updating to OTAs, so just take the ROM that Rusty linked!
NOTE2: I assume you speak french, considering you live in Quebec. Sorry if it's not the case
NOTE3: You can simply root with Universal Androot instead of SuperOneClick that I tell you to use in my tutorial (because it's only for Windows). The app can be found here: http://bit.ly/9wAKC5 (write this link in your phone and download/install the app, then root)
Good luck
I've seen that some of the Videotrons have the 0.35 hboot, so you may not be able to follow Rusty's approach...
Nice write up Gravufo!
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I've not seen anyone fail to do the swap on Vodafone UK, and some or them have .35 as well, so fingers crossed.
Thanks for the compliment
And yeah we do have .35 cuz they're all SLCD (Vidéotron JUST launched their new network, so they only have the new Nexus and not the old ones)
Hopefully my tutorial will do the job, I should think of translating it to be able to give a very short answer to everyone in english I would already consider it "franglish" now since I'm using so many english terms (I can't stand hearing technology-specific french words, they're awful)

Is the same process by Rusty! could be applied to a Korean Nexus One? Just bought it from KT 1 month ago. I think it is the SLCD version.

Maybe they can use google translate... BTW, you should update your tutorial with the FRG83D build.
I've sent some info on another forum to gravufo... And, I attached the update.zip from FRG83 to FRG83D
Still gonna want to test it before making it happen... It would be easier if there was a complete rom going to FRG83D... but meh

New Retail rom: 360

So the streak has been launched into china some time this past summer.
Rom: 360
Build: 17397
Region: China
Region: Retail
Stage UI 1.6
Dated: May 31, 2011
From usual update timelines the earliest it could have launched was approximately mid-late june
Since the streak 10 was launched in august it could likely be the month immediately before to build up hype or something
I cannot say much about the details of the rom itself, as I dont have a good dump, only a modified dump.
It seems to be 351-like but possibly customized.
If I had a clean dump, or even better a pkg i can do a proper build analysis
I have a copy of the pkg now: It is basically an updated version of 351
There are no new bundled apps, only updated ones
Stage UI has been updated to a slightly newer version of 1.6
Still 2.2.2
I am not sure if It is recommendable over 351 as it's not available on the OTA server, but here it is installable in the usual way:
mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak_360_17397_00.pkg
More info please!

I have installed the 360th. Looks absolutely similar to 351 (including all applications and languages; it`s not a chinese version).
- the Quadrant score is 775
- OOVOO doesn`t start automatically
- GingerBreak 1.2 installed, but no SuperUser and no root !!!
- SuperOne Click also doesn`t help with root
(reminder) before returning to 351, it`s necessary to downgrade the recovery version.
my dell streak is the second phone for me and i use it for internet and multimedia; in standby 3-4 days, for music/movies or internet nonstop around 14-16 hours, depends ...
i think i will stay on original 2.2.2
Confirmed working fine. Can't notice any big differences
to the 351 version. But the nagging oovooo crap isn't
autostarting anymore, as someone else mentioned.
Anyway, hats off to the great Manii, for this find!

I root in the time honored tradition of yore:
0. Install Dell drivers for PC.
1. Install Streakmod Recovery (for ease of use, Multirecovery Flasher works wonders here).
2. Update from zip and select Superuser.zip.
I've oversimplified this. Manii has a how-to in the development forum, and Radimus' Guide to Rooting the Streak is a must. But, this route should work without fail, whereas the one-click root methods don't always work.
Now...I have to debate whether I want to go the route of upgrading to this ROM and having to install everything again or sticking with 351.
If you're on a 351 stock, you can likely click the pkg link with the built in browser and it'll ask you to update in place. This only works though if the rom can normally update to it (ie regions match correctly)
Basically that means updating without touching/wiping your data.
At least I think this works, I've heard it a few times but I never bothered trying as I have no reason to as I always wipe data when installing a new rom (for testing/hacking)
There should be no difficulty regarding the region, as this Streak had 347 on it when I received it.
I've never heard of using the browser to begin the update before, which is why I thought I was going to have to reinstall everything.
I believe that the package installer utility included in stock roms is what does it. It marks itself as able to run pkgs files and will prompt you if you try to run an update pkg. (same way gallery can run jpgs/pngs/etc)
Clicking the download link is the simplest way of running a pkg, you could also try using a file explorer and selecting the pkg
Assuming this works, you of course need the correct stock recovery installed, basically any 00 region one in the case of 360

Some of us have other things to attend to, than Googling ourselves through the day.
Anyway....a small bow in your direction too then....is that ok with Master Farts?

Has anyone tried this method to update over 351?
I'm interested to see if this would be a painless update over the previous retail ROM.
I tried it. The download from the link Manii put up in this thread returned an error of "Download unsuccessful: Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." I believe the fact I am rooted is playing a huge part in this since I know I can update the ROM using the stock recovery.
If there are no major changes between 351 and 360, I'll stay with 351. I strip out most of the bloatware and Stage UI anyway.

[How to] root 2.3.4 /any future firmware for new users

BEFORE I START,DONT START RANDOM CLICKING LINKS AND DOWNLOADING IMMEDIATELY! TAKE IT STEP BY STEP,with the Exception of 3rd Step which just requires you to read abit.
Hello,
This topic was made to help out new users or users that are unfamiliar with rooting the new Firmware.
There have being many questions,so i decided to put it all in one here because i KNOW how people dont like searching XDA.
I dont take any credit,i just got a bunch of links and posts, put em all in one place for new users that dont like searching / exploring AND because the forums are very messy
Step 1: Get the FlashTool 2.9.1
http://www.multiupload.com/7H4JT35B6G
Step 2: Get any 2.3.4 or future FW FTF file you can find
I used this one,as it is the only one availbile since 24/09/11 ! In a couple of days/weeks people are going to post UK/US ones
here it is :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269845
Here is the New one ; UK one
Step 3:
Read Dousans simple post on how to get the flashtool to work,im feeling lazzy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17804320&postcount=2
FAQ:
After flashing you WILL lose ROOT!
There is a small tick box saying not to wipe data in flashtool , you can tick it
Factory data reset will not terminate bootloader or root
Root or Bootloader unlocked is not required.Think of it as a PCCompanion, only this time you choose which fw you want to select.
Depending on the firmware, gsm/cdma may not work properly, please wait for a global ftf or stick without placing calls or use data for web.
Ex. R800i with verizon ftf may not work at all and you can't place calls or use data.
Step 4: To retain root you need to go visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130639
NOTE: I bet u were doing good so far, getting to 2.3.4 and such, however, here comes the tough part for learning users. Please, read step4 very carefully, and check if your phone is SIMLOCKED or SIMUNLOCKED.Why read carefully?there are links which you honestly dont need if you know about your phone well (for ex.u know if its not Simlocked,R8OOI and such)
BOOTLOADER IS REQUIRED!
IF YOUR PHONE IS SIM-LOCKED or R8OOX go here to request an unlock : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254416
Remember to put the zip first on your SD card and then use fastboot to boot up CWM,you will then gain root access by flashing zip from CWM (Tested and working for me )
If your bootloader is not unlocked, visit this thread (if your phone is simunlocked and any other models that are not R8oox) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043630
OR this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRH3pC7MhEA
Optional Step 5 ; relock bootloader
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334

WANT TO ROOT WITHOUT UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER?
Edit :while totally ignorant of this post, another way to root is to downgrade to 2.3.2, install gingerbreak and do a software update from your phone. Remember never to delete any system apps as it will not update ever. Your bootloader must be locked aswell, if you wish to relock the boot loader go here
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334
FOR you to upgarde software without FT or BL .imgs, you need to wait for it to be released on your carrier, which may take months or weeks.Dont do it by PCCompanion btw
Thanks, how can I keep all of my data? can I use a Nandroid of 2.3.3?
No need for a nandroid backup.
There's a simple way. When selecting the file for flashing in Flashtool, uncheck the Wipe user data button and all your data (apps, messages, contacts) will be retained.
Bringing up my post, if you make a forced flash with R800x you MAY have some side effects like market not downloading or making no calls
This is, of course untested, so I'm not sure.

Great post thank you.
It's not necessarily that people dont like searching, its that the information is fragmented all over the place in these forums.
A central guide was desperately needed.
This should be stickied.
Good point, I'll edit
If you want to sticky hunt down a mod a tell him to sticky. I will need more votes though as one request is not enough

by "performance increase" you mean?
does PSXperia still works?
I think we need this as a sticky aswell, it would be nice to get rid of some of all those root posts
One thing you might ad in your edit about downgrading/gingerbreak/upgrade to retain root on new builds, is that this method will only work if you have a LOCKED bootloader or else you'll brick your phone. Bin4ry has posted a solution for that, but afaik people still has some problems after using this and some don't and it only works if you haven't tried anything else before that to rescue/restore your phone. Maybe a link to blagus tutorial on how to lock your bootloader would fit in nicely aswell
Regards Dousan...

Very limbo, it worked for me ONCE, but I went back to 2.3.3, and then back to 2.3.4. And then it stopped working. It's stuck on updating
I believe it can still work.. But no one apart from me ever said it worked once
Performance increase = faster and smoother

What do you mean by different on off transitions? Do you mean they removed the crt lockscreen?

Just a reminder,DOomkernel is not yet supported for 2.3.4
If you want to know Anyhow, the fastboot files you had from unlocking bootloader, put the future doomkernel4 in there and if your using Vista/Win7/win8
Shift+Rightclick
and type this in:
fastboot flash boot X.img
X = the name of the doomkernel4 once it comes out
======
For Bravia Mod,put the ZIP in your SD
Go and use the Clockwork mod recovery you used to get Root, and instead of finding the rootxperia.zip ,find the bravida mod.zip
if you still dont understand how to the get the bravia mod working, replace the Rootzip with bravia mod in Step4
I'm on 2.3.3 Rooted Rogers UK Firmware. Locked bootloader too.
Can I root to 2.3.4?

If 2.3.4 is availbile in your area (which i assume is no),then no way to do it without waiting for the Software update over the air.
I made a isolated post saying that you can relock your bootloader afterwards
