Htc Magic Vodafone - How to Root ???

i buy a Htc Magic Vodafone phone and i want to root it, and i don't now how
my phone have this details - saphire pvt 32b , radio 2.22.19.26l, firmware 1.6
second problem is i have CyanogenMod 4.1 and i find a new update 4.2.1 and is not working to update it, maybe because my phone is not rooted?
help pls

i can't download files i need (i need another mirror for files) and i want to use Method 2 but i have some question: how i boot the device in fastboot mode and where i Type the following command on my desktop?

i hva the same problem. But i have installed a lot of ROMs and nothing works for me. i have now hero rom and all is soo laggy . I really messed up my phone.
Is there any way so bring my phone to htc magic 1.6 OFFICIAL ? factory reset doesnt work .

Its for 32A only ofc cause HTC provides Updates for HTC branded devices only ..

i need a solution for my question from top of threat : how i make to install Cyanogen 4.2.1 on my htc magic vodafone 32b 1.6 version ? (now i have cyanogen 4.1 version installed) and second i need a step by step solution to root my phone pls

You will have to read the wiki and then go to General or Q and A sections when you get stuck.
There is no simple or short answer.

It's my understanding that you must first downgrade to firmware 1.5 to root. Maybe that's just for the so called "one click" root process??...

Hello, I didn't find it in FAQ so I'll ask here.
My friend bought HTC Magic 32B from shop in our country. It was black Magic probably from German Vodafone and I don't get one thing.
I turn it off, start, while holding HOME button, and there's Recovery menu that says in the bottom of the screen "CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF" it this normal? Is it already rooted? I don't understand how can be brand new phone from e-shop rooted? .
I also looked at SPL.

What does it mean? Does it mean that I can update recovery through fastboot, flash roms which I want with no problem?

start the phone
open the menue
open the terminal
write "su"
if u can enable the root access your/his phone should be rooted....
and btw.. in your case it would be a lot easier to make only a photo instead of a video

and they've really sold you this phone as NEW? to me all this means that it is second hand device
It could look new but actually be a used phone... mine is 6 months old and I think I could easily sell it as new...
Oh well t's better than buying it new with perfected SPL though...

Can't upload an official Rom Update to my phone

Couldn't find an appropriate, excising topic. If there is one, the could someone link me to it? I was searching, but didn't find it.

So does that mean our Magic can have the fancy user interface of HTC Hero officially now?
I'd download it and find out for myself, but eventually over there, on the bottom, where it says: "Enter your Serial Number:" it gives me:
"Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device"
1. Any idea why? Could that be because I am going to a AU website for a US phone? =) If yes, then is there any way to go around it and still get that fancy Hero look?
2. I also can't even sync with the HTC Sync. It says "disconnected" all the time

When I am typing "adb devices" in command prompt I do get my serial number, so I guess my drivers are installed fine. Although it is kind of funky in Device Manager. There is a "HTC Android Phone USB Device" under "Disk drives" and there is "H:\" under "Portable Devices" which says "Android Phone" when going to right click>properties>details. I guess this still works.

supposedly the htc drivers work better than the default android/google drivers.. google to find them..
and yes your right it wont work because its the australian update, and its for a different device, magics are different than mytouchs (hardware wise)..tmo didnt get a sense update for the mytouch ... there are some 32B sense roms, if you root your phone, but i think all are based on 2.1 and are pretty crappy... best thing is to wait untill you get an official 2.1 update for the mytouch.. summer i think..
also look in the dream section for sense roms, as the roms for the dream also work for the 32b (mytouch)

What digitaljeff is trying to say here is that there isn't any official downloads for your version of the HTC Magic.
Any update concerning your device will or should be provided by T-Mobile when it's ready. As of now..there is none.

Your other option of "upgrading" would be by gaining root access on your device and programming it with a custom rom.

HTC Magic Vodafone AU ROM Upgrade?

I have an HTC Magic running Android 1.6
I would like a newer version, 2.1 or 2.2, however I am aware that Vodafone AU will not be releasing any updates.
Could anyone please point me in the right direction to get a ROM upgrade?
Please bear in mind I am new to this and do not wish to brick my phone!!

By the way... I am now downloading the official HTC Magic ROM with Sense using a serial number posted in these forums.
Given this is not strictly for my phone, although it is still an HTC Magic, will this ROM work? Is this safe to install?

Hi there,
did you get anywhere with this? How did it go? I am in the exact same boat as you, but am not sure how to go about it since htc dont provide an update for the Vodafone branded devices. I believe this is because of the Google logo on the back, and google thinks we shouldnt have sense if it has their logo on it.
Anyway, if you could let me know how you went with it that would be great.

yes yes i just upgrade my old nice phone (tytn 2) to htc magic
wow cant imagine the dif cant decribe it but now i need to know everything about the magic.
i have the black ediotn of the htc magic here is insrael with 1.5 android version.
i want to know if i upgrade to 2.1 or other radio +rom everything will work ?
i have a friend that tryed to upgrade and ruind his mother board in the phone dont know how
so if i upgrade its 100% save?
and will be usfull if some 1 will give me a link for how to upgrade + usfull roms +radio
and maybe some video on youtube or someting

I can speak only for myself, but what I'm telling now i think is 99% accepted.
However I can not take any responsibility for your actions.
1. Usually it's safe to try any custom ROM with will NOT put your security on ON.
2. I only had problems with Rogers stock ROM which did not flashed correctly even if it said it did.
3. If you have S-OFF, you can recover your phone most of the cases if it boots into fastboot.
4. However, if you get S-ON, you can recover your phone with goldcard if you have a higher version of the ROM (I don't recommend you to get there)
5. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE HBOOT - RADIO PAIR YOU FLASH. IT CAN GIVE YOU SERIOUS HEADACHES. Search which pairs are compatible
6. READ CAREFULLY, BUT CAREFULLY EVERY TUTORIAL BEFORE STARTING TO DO ANYTHING
7. AH. DON'T EVER BE IN A HURRY WHEN FLASHING CUSTOM ROMS AND BE SURE YOUR PHONE IS FULLY CHARGED
8. The rest is history and, as always, GOOGLE is your friend
