Help Rooting Please. Money for help!

Need help rooting phone. 32b htc magic developers conference. Can anyone guide me over the phone? I will happily mail or paypal 10.00 for your trouble. I've installed the sdk and drivers, just need to move forward. I am a total PC noob and just need help with command lines on XP. Or if I can do it on a mac, that would be cool.

Did you know you can flash to a different Rom without being root ... I would recommend flashing to the CyanogenMod port to the 32B magic, this will give you new features including root access and is probably safer than trying to obtain root on the stock firmware. Check the link in the bottom of my sig to see the process you would need to follow.

Turn off the phone. When it has powered down hold Back and turn it back on. Keep holding back until a page with skating androids is displayed. The top line ( i think) should tell you.

A very confusing problem

My HTC magic has the following -
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT- 1.33.0010 (SAPP10000)
CLPD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17

can somebody guide me , or post a link to change the HBOOT to something else other than 0010. Ive tried alll the methods , but no luck.
The Magic which i have is from Qatar (vodafone).
Any info on changing the ROM would be helpful. I just got the phone and im upgrading from HTC Diamond.

it says that the ROM has a higher version than the one which im flashing with... my ROM ver is - 2.56.415.5 and the one im trying to flash is 2.53.xxxx ( which is the highest ver ive found on the internet.
Ive tried everything , so if u know any other method to fake the update , like faking the rom version , that wud be helpful.

can you give us the name of the rom or the link ?

Note that your informations about your phone show that your never changed the spl and the radio , and as you know every custom rom need specific spl or radio, and your fist question is can somebody guide me , or post a link to change the HBOOT to something else other than 0010.or my link give you all necessary to change the hiboot and radio ,

If you list the methods you tried instead of just saying you tried all you might get more help. If you really tried all we wouldn't be able to help you anyway.
But instead of making us try to guess what it is there is going wrong, provide us with info. Then people won't come in and post link to the wiki and things like that
Anyway, goldcard should be able change this SPL, and i believe that other methods is available as well. I used to have that SPL myself before i got an engineer instead. But you should change your SPL before trying to flash a Rom, but seems like you understood that just trying anyway. Other solutions is to find a newer RUU update there match your mobile which have S-OFF so you can downgrade the SLP after that.

So where can i find the "newer RUU update" ? That will solve the whole problem. And sry abt the less info on the first post.

I would take a less risky approach than RUU updates, but it was the way i did it cause back then i got my phone the 1.33.0010 was still perfected.
You got the SDK on the PC and able to list devices through ADB? And a goldcard as well?

Ya , im able to connect it and run adb devicelist and i'm able to create the goldcard as well. But wen i'm trying to load the SPL , it shows that the current ROM ver is higher . S-ON means that i cant downgrade right?
So i'm guessing there is no solution for this problem

Proper Magic ROM

I want to flash my Magic with an original Vodafone ROM as the one i am running is so slow and need to get it back to working quick again.
The only problem i have is i can't find a stock ROM for a Voda branded handset.
Anyone know where i can download one from?

I just got my magic i bought from some auction here and thatt a-hole forgot to mention it was a vodaphone...
So when i was trying to download the new roms from HTC's website it said it didn't apply to my serial nr i entered....
So how do i upgrade from this v. 1.6 and get rid of the crappy vodaphone thats infested my phone?

What I want is to get rid of the vodaphone crapware and update android + that sense UI would be the icing on the cake...

If you want to know what magic do you have you must power of your phone and then VolDown + Power its a fast boot and there you have all info and post it here some1 or me will info you what to do

I am sorry for posting in this thread but I think the OP had the right idea... The shere volume of information is overwhelming and being a complete NEWB when it comes to androids.
I just bought mine and the moron i bought it from didn't bother mentioning it was a vodaphone so now I have to make the best of it...
jumping on this android phone is like starting to watch a movie in the middle... it's real hard to get a grasp of things at first.

OK, i think i have broken my magic now.
I used Amon Ra's clean Donut ROM and installed as i have done in the past with others, but now when i reboot the phone after the ROM install it just sits at the Vodafone splash screen and thats it. I checked all my phone settings before running this and everything matched up fine.
I will post my settings when i get home, it will help anyone that is kind enough to help me out.
Incidently if i pull the battery and then put it back in, i can still get to the fast boot screen and i can still invoke the recovery ROM screen to allow me to flash a ROM, so it's not bricked, just don't know whats going on.

More than likely the ROM you flashed isn't right for your phone so you get the endless boot.

wow cant imagine the dif cant decribe it but now i need to know everything about the magic.
i have the black ediotn of the htc magic here is insrael with 1.5 android version.
i want to know if i upgrade to 2.1 or other radio +rom everything will work ?
i have a friend that tryed to upgrade and ruind his mother board in the phone dont know how

I can speak only for myself, but what I'm telling now i think is 99% accepted.
However I can not take any responsibility for your actions.
1. Usually it's safe to try any custom ROM with will NOT put your security on ON.
2. I only had problems with Rogers stock ROM which did not flashed correctly even if it said it did.
3. If you have S-OFF, you can recover your phone most of the cases if it boots into fastboot.
4. However, if you get S-ON, you can recover your phone with goldcard if you have a higher version of the ROM (I don't recommend you to get there)
5. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE HBOOT - RADIO PAIR YOU FLASH. IT CAN GIVE YOU SERIOUS HEADACHES. Search which pairs are compatible
6. READ CAREFULLY, BUT CAREFULLY EVERY TUTORIAL BEFORE STARTING TO DO ANYTHING
7. AH. DON'T EVER BE IN A HURRY WHEN FLASHING CUSTOM ROMS AND BE SURE YOUR PHONE IS FULLY CHARGED
8. The rest is history and, as always, GOOGLE is your friend

I can't find an RUU that matches your CustomerID which means your only option is to make a goldcard (unless someone see's something I'm missing). Do you not have a friend with a phone running Android that you could borrow?

Did you try to flash it again?
Did you try to change into RUU mode?

yes i tried but my phone is freezing on ruu because no ruu has my customer id

1- i made update with rom update by rogers htc magic ruu and i am vodafone
2- it update the radio and spl and when it update signature the result is
update fail!!
3- the only screen i can access now is ruu fastboot screen
and if you have help for me please dont hesitate

The problem is that you cannot update using Rogers RUU without the use of a goldcard... so how did that happened?

i dont need to update with rogers it just a mistake i am vodafone htc magic not rogers so the update failed and i bricked my phone
now i need to just fix my phone with any method
i cant make gold card because i have not another android device
can i make gold card without device?
or is there another method to fix?
