I'm having an issue that I'm sure is easy to fix but I can't figure it out.
I tried to set up a network manually a while ago and it failed and now when I turn on my wifi from the settings menu I get:
"Turning on..." (next to the toggle)
Then an error message at the bottom of screen:
"Unable to save the network"
"Turning off" (next to the toggle)
Anyone know the fix to this?

I posted replies to the thread below and one other thread (which I can't find right now). I had the same issue and it was caused by Allshare. search for my replies in the thread I replied to. Long story cut short, I had to go back and forth between Allshare and turning wifi on/off and it magically fixed itself.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748231
Okay, I figured out my problem and it wasn't Allshare (I've never used it and tried the fix mentioned above). I'm not sure if it is a Vibrant issue or an Android issue.
I'll list what I did and the solution:
I was trying to connect to a network with a hidden SSID and apparently I typed something wrong so it would not connect. It then must have gotten forced into some kind of loop attempting to connect to that "bad" network. Every time I enabled the Wifi it went through a loop of:
"Turning on..."
"Unable to save the network"
"Unable to scan networks"
"Turning off..."
The fix was to go to "/data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf" with Root Explorer and edit the file to remove the information on the "bad" network. I copied some of the file below that shows what the file looked like before and after.
Code:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/misc/wifi GROUP=wifi
update_config_1
device_name=Wireless Client
manufacturer=Samsung Electronics
device_type=1-0050F204-1
network={
ssid="tmobile"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
}
network={
ssid="tmobile1x"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
}
network={
ssid="Belkin.3844"
psk="84316318"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
pairwide=CCMP
auth_alg-OPEN
}
network={
ssid=" UCF_WPA2"
scan_ssid=1
}
and the fixed code was to just remove the information about the "UCF_WPA2" network.
Code:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/misc/wifi GROUP=wifi
update_config_1
device_name=Wireless Client
manufacturer=Samsung Electronics
device_type=1-0050F204-1
network={
ssid="tmobile"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
}
network={
ssid="tmobile1x"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
}
network={
ssid="Belkin.3844"
psk="84316318"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
pairwide=CCMP
auth_alg-OPEN
}
I can now turn Wifi on and off at will and I have no further issues.
Ah. That's definitely some good information! I have noticed some sort of pattern with Allshare and media sharing applications where this happens, not sure why though. This definitely helps a lot though, now we know where to go to remove the entries.

Yep, I had some other network information in there but I didn't post it for security reasons (work SSID and password). But I bet you could remove everything but the t-mobile IDs and it would fix any issues. I just removed the one network that I knew was causing issues. I think it was the space in the SSID field that was causing my issues.
Is it possible to do this fix without rooting?

I don't think so. Unless you tried the other way of attempting to connect and disconnect (if it's Allshare or media-sharing app related) then this is definitely the route to go.
Then again, rooting the Vibrant is REALLY easy and you can always unroot for whatever reason.
This is driving me nuts. I finally got it rooted but how can I install the Root Explorer to access the data directory if I don't have Wi-Fi? I tried from Windows and I can not find the directory looking at the phone.
I do not have a data plan. Is there a way to install an app from my computer?
none of these fixes work. can I get a real solution? Ive tried every fix posted..still not working

Alright, I have been trying to get Modaco's Nodata CAB to work on my Wizard, but everytime I try it, it just gives me an error and doesn't work (it installs fine, but it won't work).
So, I'm looking for a fix... I don't have a data plan, and all I want to use the phone for are calls, SMS, and Wifi... anyone know a sure fire way to disable the data connection? (other than calling my provider)
Also, I posted this in another thread, but would the Comm Manager in my ROM work to disable data connections? It currently says that data connections are "off"... but I don't want to take the chance of it automatically turning on. But if the Comm Manager is actually capable of keeping the data connection off, then that should work for me, right? (the ROM that I am using is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395173)
Thanks, and let me know if I need to provide more info or whatever. I just really need to try to avoid those kind of extra charges if I can.
You should just be able to put your phone in flight mode from your today screen with two taps. Tap your signal strength icon and then tap "Turn on flight mode."
As far as NoData is concerned: Is there anything else you've installed that might have similar functionality which could be conflicting with NoData? Also, the ROM you flashed is pretty bare. Are you sure your symptoms aren't from that ROM? I'd ask on that guy's thread, if I were you...
The only other thing I'd suggest is turning off automatic email downloads, and anything else you've installed that updates itself automatically (weather programs are NOTORIOUS for this, but any program is a potential suspect, so check them all). Just the email download is hitting the network a minimum of once every 60 minutes. Even without getting email, that's close to 2MB per month. That can add up to some hefty bill, especially while roaming.

Thanks for your reply. The Comm Manager has a button to turn on/off flight mode, so I should be able to do that pretty easily (I can reach the COMM Manager in 2 taps as well). It also has one to turn on/off Wifi, Bluetooth, Cellular Radio, and Data Connection (maybe one more, but I can't remember it at the moment... my Wizard is at home). My question concerning the Comm Manager is whether or not keeping the Data Connection setting "off" will act as a "disabler" (meaning, if I keep it off, it won't come on automatically or anything at any time unless I turn it on). If it truly does work like that all the time, then I should be set... I just don't know if it does or not.
The ROM is pretty bare, but I don't think I've downloaded anything that would conflict with NoData. The only CAB files I've put on there are SPB Mobile Shell 2.1, PCM Keyboard, TCPMP Player, Total Commander, and BatteryStatus. I know Mobile Shell has the Weather program, but so far it has only updated itself when I have synced it to my PC. I haven't set up my email yet, but I would definitely turn off automatic email downloads no matter what.
So basically, it all kind of depends on whether the "Data Connection" tab in my Comm Manager is capable of actually stopping my phone from connecting to the data network when I have it set to off. Or if there's a way to fix the NoData CAB, then that should work too. But if anyone knows any other options/solutions (again, other than calling AT&T and having them block all data... which I can do, but I'd rather just do it myself), please let me know.
It should work. I can't speak to the specifics of your ROM, so if it doesn't work, you'll have to take that up with the cook, not me.
You can easily test this, though. In the comm manager, turn off the phone radio. Then try to open your web browser, and surf to something (it caches the home page, so that's going to show up anyways...). If you get out, then the phone is accessing the network after you "turned it off."
Also did you see the note from the developer's post on MoDaCo.com?
Note that if you get bizarre registry errors on toggling, you need to app unlock your device (e.g. with SDA Application Unlocker).

Yeah, I guess I just skimmed over that note at Modaco.com... but anyway, I tried it (using the SDA Application Unlock tool, which worked successfully) to no avail. The same error came up while trying to run the NoData CAB (I reinstalled it). The error reads:

I still haven't tried your suggestion with the Comm Manager yet (kind of waiting for a response in that other thread first)... but it looks like the NoData CAB isn't going to work unless someone knows how to fix whatever the error message is saying.

Since I don't think NoData is being actively developed any more, you're probably SOL for a repair/update from them...
Try this: delete both NoData and the App Unlocker. Install the App Unlocker again, then install NoData. The installation may have been fouled by the Wizard because app loading wasn't unlocked at the time.
you ALWAYS get error, when GPRS/etc settings are not SET.
this program is A MUST, and it is working FINE.
I think what nothin is trying to say in his (her?) exceptionally charming way, is that if you had done a Google search for your error and clicked on the very first link, some reading would reveal your problem.
While it could have been done without the e-screaming, nothin does have a point about doing a thorough search for solutions before posting.
Haha, it's fine, I probably need to have some sense knocked in to me once in a while. Thanks for all of your help though... I guess I just don't need the NoData CAB to avoid data plan charges. At least that is what it is looking like. But thanks again. And this thread can be closed or whatever.
Just got my Dash 3G, and I have found my first issue. The builtin HTC Home Weather app isn't updating. I have it checked to automatically update, but it doesn't. I have also tried doing a manual refresh, and still no luck. The only time it does seem to update is if I change my Homescreen, and it reloads. Anyone one having a similar experience? Any solutions?
thats a common issue with T-Mobile for years.
theres a few threads already constructed with possible solutions dating back to 2007.
just go thru the search function, see what comes up, theres way too many for me to post.
Later!
I had searched, but most of the posts were for other phones/OS's (6.0 instead of 6.1). Plus, I am not sure if the HTC Home Weather has changed since these other fixes were posted. I don't want to be mashing old fixes into my new phone unless I can be assured it will work. Probably means I will have to wait for someone else to be the guinea pig. Can anyone point to a fix they have confirmed to work?
Just restart phone and notice that it reloads. Myfaves automatically reloads no matter what homescreen you choose.. Have vista need to stop the sync
The problem is with connecting to the network, Mine refused to update until I changed my connection to always on, now it works perfectly. All you need to do is edit the reg:
This wont drain your battery as this is only a GSM network state flag and nothing is transferred, all it does is eliminate the connection wait time.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\
{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\
Connections\*your connection name*\AlwaysOn = 1
There will be two *your connection name* to look for, one is Data the other Internet
Bupahs,
Thanks for the reply. I tried your suggestion, but still no luck. I am now having issues trying to get the initial update. (Had to do a hard reset). I've been looking at the registry entries at:
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\SlidingPanel\HTCWeather
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Chome\HTCWeather
but I don't know what to edit to try, and fix the issue. I've changed the State and Status values at HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather. These seem to control which message the app displays such as "Add City", or "Unable to download..", etc. I've noticed the WeatherApp.exe process isn't running in the background by default, and that the value of the key HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings\UpdateCmd\ seems to be a date followed by a time. (2009,7,19,12,21,43) Any suggestions on what else to look at? Do apps referenced in the Registry default to the Windows directory? I noticed CommandLaunch references WeatherApp.exe, but I get no action when I hit refresh. Just wonder if that had anything to do with it.
Do others have this working? Sorry for the rambling post. Useful input or suggestions are welcomed.
mine wont update either tried 3 different networks.
Hello everyone.
I have the MOST AMAZING thing happening on my HD2. I have been travelling for a while connecting to endless WI-FI Networks wherever I go. The list is now so long that I have matching network names but with different Security keys of course and I am starting to have conflicts so, I just decided to clean-up the registry. I have over 230 networks I connected to in the past couple months. Its a mess.
The registry key HCU>Comm>EAPOL>Config keeps a listing of all previous networks one has connected to before. One by one I just delete all entries of the networks till the list is clean once again.
Oh but, wonder of wonders; upon one or two reboots by a miracle, ALL entries are back again!!!.. just as if I restored the registry before the clean-up! How is this possible? How can deleted values show-up again or how is the registry self-restoring these values? This happens every time and i dont seem to find a way by simply editing the registry.
Does anyone know the solution to permanently clean-up these values and not have them come back again? Should I start using an alternative app like WI-FI Monster instead (dont really like it), or maybe something else to manage the WI-FI Networks on the HD2?
Thanks a lot in advance for the advice
Hi:
I am loving my HTC HD2 running Windows Mobile and Android. I am using the following latest builds which work very well:
AmericanAndroid
MCCMBoxMax
and another which doesn’t come to my mind.
The only thing that is keeping me from a perfect experience is getting internet connection while in Android.
1. In Android OS, If I am connected to WIFI I get perfect internet at home or anyplace else where there is WIFI
2. In Windows Mobile, if there is no WIFI, I can connect to internet via my cell phone connection. I guess this is called data connection. I seem be having trouble doing this regardless of what Android build I use. Is there some setting I should be using in Android to get this to work? I’m almost certain I have the Mobile network setting checked. If there is some other setting, I must be missing it
I don't get any error messages, just that there is no internet connection when I goto a web page or try to goto Market.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for your help in advance!

There are many reasons why your data connection might not be working well because of.
First, your APN Settings may not be correctly set.
Second, in case you're running off NAND and you're using cLK with rmnet.
Third, your phone couldn't resolve the DNS server thus giving you no connectivity.
To fix the:
First, check your settings.
Second, Enable ppp instead of rment.
Third, editing the build.prop in your device.
after opening it, look for DNS1 and DNS2 .
Set DNS1 (or Primary DNS) to: 8.8.8.8
Set DNS2 (or Alternative DNS) to : 8.8.4.4
build.prop is located in system folder in your device.
Reboot, and check if it is working.
Well, maybe I mistated....It doesn't connect to anything while booted in Android. The only so far to get internet connection is thru a WIFI connection. If there is no WIFI then I get nothing. With WINMO 6.x I get data, but not with Android.
Will those instructions you gave still work? If so, I will try it after work.
Thank You!
You mean you see the "H", "3G", "E" or "G" but you can't get internet. or you don't even see them?
what does it say when you turn on Data connection?
Ah...maybe thats the problem. I get 5 bars, but those letters are no where to be found. When I'm on the WINMO side, I get those letters.
Wait....as I'm typing this, I just saw the letter H with up and down arrows below it. What does that mean?

How do you enable ppp?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
That means you're now connected to the internet, you probably have network select set on "WCDMA Only" and your area has insufficient 3G coverage. Just set it to "WCDMA/GSM Auto" .

Depends on your build, reading the OP of your build will definitely give you the answer but in most cases you can do so by editing the config.txt file on your sd card (create if not there) .. also keep in mind that not all builds support config.txt nor PPP. Refer to your build's thread. you also have to have a compatible kernel.
I'm using HyperDroid GBX v12, couldn't find anything on the rom's thread. Although I did find a ppp.txt right next to my build.txt in my system folder. Does this mean it is enabled?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I'm not really sure, but you could try making a txt file on the root of your sd card and name it "config.txt" and write in it the following:
Code:
ppp_mode=1
Then reboot your phone with sd card on, and see if it works.

I'd advise you to use a permanent Android Version, such as BOYPPC (which is the best in my mind)!
Otherwise install a newer SD-Android Version, and turn on the data connection in settings! Should work.
If there appears a E, G, 3G or H in your task bar, then u have internet connection!
Thank you for all your help and suggestions. I just installed:

Hey there,
I have an issue here and I am not really sure on how to solve it.
The Logcat says:
The connection pool for database 'my Database' has been unable to grant a connection to thread 1 with flags 0x2 for 240.0000 seconds
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
After this, my app freezes and I can do nothing more, than uninstall the app and create the database new. A restart with the taskmanager does not repair it.
In my app, I have an intent, which downloads every hour some data per Bluetooth. This data is the stored in my database. If I try to access the database in this time, the issue apears.
For now, I made sure, that only one instance of the SQLiteHelper is opened, so I have this static method:
PHP:
static BatteryManager getInstance(Context c)
{
if(bm==null)
bm = new BatteryManager(c);
return bm;
}
Right now, I am inserting the data with a simple sql command and :
PHP:
this.getReadableDatabase().execSQL(sqlCommand);
I know, that there are cleaner ways, but this would not solve a problem like this, right?
After some googling I found out, that a content provider would help me, is this correct?
What would you suggest?
Thank you for your help!
