[Q] Android without a new Radio ROM? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
I wonder if there is a way to use Android on the HD2 without the special ROM version it needs. During a reboot my device shows:
R 2.07.51.22~2
G 15.32.50.07U
D 1.72.86526
A reset with the volume down key being pressed shows "SPL 1.66.0000".
Thank you

Hi,
that´s a fine question. My device shows the same.
Can annybody tell us something about this topic?
Thanks

You can try andriod without any rom changes, just download it, extract to SD card & run (per instructions). It should work, in general, but you'll most likely get the common issues, like "robot voice".
Try some builds & see how they work for you.

Today I tried out "HyperDroidV1.2" but i get one of the known problems!
I don´t want to change the radiorom because of my warranty.
Every thread I looked up say, that you lost the warrenty if you try HSPL and a other RadioRom.
I'm afraid to make my phone unusable.
Thanks for your answer!

Without the right Radio ROM, Android will stop booting at the "init screen" (or "init panel"?) line and the display will fade to black.

Be careful!!
I tried the FroyoSense V2 on my stock HD2, and my WM locked up totally. No 3'rd part progs would run, could not install anything. The phone was more or less useless. So backup your phone before even trying to run Android.

well you need at least 2.08 radio. i have exact same stock rom, but you need to hspl and upgrade your radio.

Why are you hesitant to flash a new radio? It is super simple to do and it is reversible. If I were you I'd go to radio 2.12. You can also flash a custom WM Rom with built in android boot manager.

My understanding is that Andriod only works with the R 2.**.50.** radio. I think these are the US radios. Any .51 radio are for EUR/AUS and will not work with Android.
I have a Telstra HD2 with 2.09.51.03 and have to flash 2.10.50.08 inorder to work with Android.
I believe unless you have a TMobile HD2, it is quite safe to use any radio rom and the flashing process is very straight forward indeed.

No HSPL

Since my HTC HD2 from Tmobile the SPL is 2.1
Is it possible to use a cooked rom without HSPL? Or is there another HSPL 2.1 hack.
Also, I searched the forum on downgrading it, which involves microsd. I'm not sure how to do it, anyone care to explain it to me? Thanks ^^
As long as you have one of these SPLs currently on the device - SPL 1.42.0000, SPL 1.62.0000, SPL 1.66.0000, SPL 2.07.0000, SPL 2.08.0000, SPL 2.10.000 you can flash HSPL3.
And you should always have hspl when flashing cooked ROMs
Dude I'm pretty sure there is no spl 2.1....
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
It's actually a 2.10.000
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6891358&postcount=1893
So I download HSPL3 and do it? Edit: For installing HSPL3, do I have to enter the tri color screen than do it or no? And also, is HSPL3 compatible with TMOBILE?
Also, how do I find out of it's a LEO512 or LEO1024? Like how does it know the HSPL is compatible with me HTC HD2 Tmoible? I know the SPL is 2.10.000
But I read that there is 3 different kind of Leo. So I dont know if it will be compatible
Edit: Let's say I bricked it, how would I enter boot loader?
Bump. need help ASAP ><
To confirm the instruction
1. Run HSPL3 (Do I have to be in the tri color screen in order to install it?)
2. Run the rom I want using CUSTOMRUU (It's a Miri HD2 WM6.5.X (23133) V18) (Do I have to be in the tri color screen? Or can I just plug in the phone and run the custom RUU?
3. After I flashed it, and I want to install Android on it, do I have to do anything about radio version or no? < I am asking this because on my current build, I hear robot voices... After I install the V18 everything should be fine and I don't have to worry about the radio right? Thanks again ^^
Bump! I really need help >< I really want Android on this phone and I keep hearing robot voice when calling..
I don't use the Miri ROM but I would search his thread for all instances of "Android" and see what other users are doing. Sorry I couldn't help more.
Dude... so there's a post in this section, actually one of the first ones in the area... stickyed close to the top (4th thread actually), that talks about EVERYTHING you just asked... and it's specificly for our 1024LEO (T-Mobile HD2)
give it a glance... it also provides the links to HSPL3 and instructions on how to install it.
I ran though this the 2nd day I had my T-Mobile HD2, first phone I've EVER customized, and it's all really straight forward & easy.... just be sure to RTFM
Also, as a bit of help....
when installing a ROM, the RUU will reboot the phone into the Tri-Color to perform the flash... however, if it's the first time the phone has been plugged into the computer while at the TRI-Color... the flash process will time out before the computer finishes installing the drivers required to see the device.... so I suggest going to the TRI-Color manually and pluging the phone into the computer... let the computer install the drivers (when finished, you will see the words change from SERIAL to USB in the white area of the Tri-Color screen) then run the ROM install. The RUU can be run both from the OS and from the Tri-Color
Oh, thanks!
Last question. Currently I have a official ROM from HTC, and when I boot up android, everything works fine except that when I make call I hear a robot voice.
Will flashing to custom rom fix this problem? Or do I have to update the radio? :|

Official T-Mobile ROM? it's possible... both my Fiancee and I have the HD2, I flashed to the Energy ROM, and she used a kitchen and made a custom version of the T-Mobile ROM... when running Android mine works fine on voice, she however gets the robot...
we both flashed to the radio to Leo_Radio_2.12.50.02_2
I recall seeing something about formatting the SD card and trying again to fix the robot voice issue... but I would suggest doing some searches in the HD2 Android Development section first (found in the "other" HD2 section )... I know a lot of people were reporting that issue, so I'm sure someone has "The Fix" for it.
last bit... remember to ALWAYS check if a ROM is TMOUS supported before you flash... getting a ROM from this section is a safe bet (and i think a lot of the custom ROM cooks are starting to cook the Android loader in... I know the Energy ROMs have it) but when you start going to ROMs in the Android Development section made specifically for running Android you need to make sure.

Android with HSPL

Can I boot/intall Android with HSPL?
im guessing yes cause i had to HSPL my phone to run energy rom, and now im running froyo
What you mean is Android on the NAND? No, not yet.
What you can do, is to flash a custom ROM (without Android).
The Android has to be on the SDCARD!
Sorry my question was can I boot/intall Android without HSPL?
I have seen mixed opinions on installing without HSPL. The problem usually comes in when you go to make calls. People can get Android running on a completely stock HD2, but you usually need a different radio for clear audio in calls, ie no robo-voice. If you don't want to change from the stock Rom, I would still suggest running hspl and flashing a new radio. it will help to keep you from getting too angry.
Good luck.

I like the stock ROM for the most part. In the most of custom ROMs, the start menu is the bottom which I dont like. And I have to unlock which will void warranty. I have bricked my HD2 once! So not comfortable installing HSPL and Custom ROM.

Many custom ROMs come in WinMo 6.5 versions (which is what you're looking for; for example the Core Cell Evo, which is a very nice ROM and supposedly compatible to Android [I guess in terms of robot voice, haven't tried it, yet] since V3; or Elegancia ROM Series, which I use myself and can therefore confirm that it solves the robot voice problem) and of course in 6.5.5 versions (which have the start button at the bottom). Therefore, a custom ROM does not necessarily mean a totally new WInMo experience.
Other than that, I see no real problem in installing HSPL on the phone. It rather prevents bricking your phone, so why not do it. And in case you have to make use of the warranty, you can always uninstall HSPL in order to "make it stock" again.
It is recommended by most devs that HSPL 2 (or 3) should be installed beforehand

Let's put it like this:
If you already have a radio of 2.08 or above and a stock ROM that does not give you the robot voice or you don't care about the robot voice, then you don't need HSPL at all (as long as you're running Android off the SD card, which you might not want anymore as soon as it's flashable to Nand, which it is not yet).
If, on the other hand, you need to flash anything in order to make it work (new Radio, custom ROM), then HSPL is either recommended (in order not to brick your phone) or absolutely necessary (because most custom ROMs won't be flashable without it).
Hope that clears it up a bit more, pls correct me if I was wrong on anything.
I running stock ROM with radio version 2.10.50.26. I tried "HyperDroid"

Yeah, well, then it's (like I wrote) most likely the stock ROM that's causing it. So either you learn t live with it or I strongly advise to install HSPL prior to flashing a custom ROM. And to prevent a question: No, at this point in time, there is no other workaround known to me. Like I said, live with it it or change it.
EDIT: Since you say you're uncomfortable about instaling HSPL and that you have bricked your phone once, I assume that you did not install HSPL when that happened? In the sense of you bricked your phone while trying to install a custom ROM without prior installation of HSPL? If that's the case, get some information on HSPL again, it's your friend, not your enemy It basically keeps you from bricking the phone. Of course, there always remains some risk, so whatever you do, you do it on your own risk. Don't come back here saying "You told me nothing could happen when I hae HSPL." That's not how it works

Just like they said in the other post, try entering the bootloader by turning off the phone, holding the "volume down" button, keep holding it, press the power on button while still holding the volume down. While in bootloader, you can flash a working ROM either from USB or from your SD card (see HSPL info for that process)... like I said, HSPL does not prevent anything from going wrong if there's an error in a ROM or whatever, it just leaves "a back door open"...
But that's kinda offtopic anyway In fact, if your aim is to get android running, I suggest one of the ROMs that are reportedly working, like Energy, Chucky, Miri (original or Elegancia), supposedly Core Cell Evo v3 etc... why cook your own when you don't wanna run WM anyway
PLEASE HELP: How to I uninstall HSPL?

As soon as I installed HSPL on my phone, my HD2's screen would not work. How do I uninstall HSPL without having to touch the phone? Is this possible? Also, I have searched and searched for a newbie version of how to uninstall HSPL, and I cannot find anything. PLEASE HELP!

How do I know if I can flash my HTC HD2? (touchscreen not working)

Hi!
The touchscreen of my phone almost doesn't work. I've read many topics about this in different forums and maybe a solution would be to reinstall all from 0 (resetting the phone with that yellow button when you revome the back doesn't work anymore).
So, I want to try to install android hoping this will solve the problem. If not, my phone will be a thin brick in a drawer.
Since the touchscreen is not working correctly, I can't go to see the details in the menu.
The phone was flashed once and currently has a rom called BSB beast 6 and when I turn it on, this red numbers appears:
2.10.50.26
15.39.50.07u
2.11.86834 8g
Current OS is Windows Mobile 6.5
I believe android will work with the current rom without the need of installing another one before, right?
Would recommend me one rom (android NAND) to put? because I saw a lot in thread here and I don't really understand what the differences would be. I just want the phone to work
I hope this is enough information
Thanks a lot!
If you want to flash Android what you need to do is...
Make sure you have 2.08.HSPL (I'm assuming you do as you have a custom ROM).
Then flash the newest radio (2.15.50.14)
Flash MAGLDR
Flash a NAND ROM of your choice.
Though I doubt that will fix the problem. Your digitizer is probably gradually dieing. You can easily get it fixed for about $80.

None of the Android ROMs will automatically flash a radio on your phone.
You have to manually do that using the radio thread. The "r" in the kernel name does not mean radio, it is just the revision number of the kernel so you can keep track of version.
Edit:
and FYI, American Android is an SD only ROM, which means you can actually run it without modifying anything on your phone and keeping it completely stock, you'd just have to launch it from WinMo first.
You can flash HSPL, MAGLDR, then run it from that (which means you would not have to load up WinMo first), but it is still not ever "flashed" to your phone, it is only run off the SD card.
alright understood thank you very much, so for that build i do not need to see which version of hspl i need as it does not require one. I would check which hspl i'd need if i wanted to auto book into android itself correct? anything else to worry about besides radio and hspl that i may have over looked?

Nope,
Any questions on that ROM just ask in thread.
If you are running the latest WinMo ROM, then your radio is 12.15.50 and you are good to go, since that's the radio most custom ROM users use anyways.
your "SPL" (secondary program loader) will be stock and it does not matter. If you want to boot straight into Android from the bootloader, flash WP7, or flash Android to your internal storage, you will need to flash HSPL 2.08, which is very easy and takes a grand total of about 30 seconds.
Just check the HSPL thread in WinMo upgrades, use HSPL4 and flash version 2.08

Hello again,
Just wondering if you flashed the correct stock rom check out this post to make sure...

It must be the correct one for your device otherwise there could be a radio problem!!
You do have HSDPL 2.08 on your HD2 so that is a plus. Please post your Carrier's name and the region the HD2 is from. I can use this info to make sure you have the correct stock ROM for your device and see if it might be a older version Win Mo ROM for your device as I think you have what is referred to as a stuck radio. If I remember right some members that have had this was able to get a older version of Win Mo to flash and then they were good to go again. Maybe Samsamuel will come and give some of his enlightened advice as he probably good guide you more than I could.

Yes enter the serial number of your device into the HTC website and it should show you the correct ROM for your device. If that does not work try entering the serial number in google and see what you can find that way.

As I posted in my first post, it appears you have a stuck radio problem. The only way you will fix it is to find a stock ROM for device that has a earlier version radio. For some reason only earlier radio versions have been able to fix this problem, but it must be in a stock RUU. Just flashing the radio will not work. I am truly sorry I can not offer any more help, but with out the information I asked you for in my second post in this thread I can not help you find a RUU that might would work.

Or if you have EU version;

Flash magldr and it should work, if it works and it still doesnt let you flash a rom then boot an sd rom from magldr.
Has this not been solved? I see many suggestions but no reply lately from OP.
If it is a radio problem, you can always flash a radio without changing your ROM.
I am curious as to why this started in the first place. Where you using your phone and one day it stopped?
Did you flash the android ROM or did you buy it that way?
Which android ROM was it?

If the OP or anyone else for that matter has what is known as a stuck radio. Then just flashing the radio will not work, it will fail every time. I do not know what causes the issue on HD2's but I do know it does exist. I also do not know why flashing older ROMs via RUU works to fix the issue sometimes either, but again I do know it does on occasion work to fix the device. When you have a stuck radio it does as the OP says it will fail when trying to flash the radio. It also for some reason prevents you from flashing anything to the system partition of the device. Now I know people will say just flash a custom Win Mo ROM as they do not have radios with them or just flash MAGLDR or clk. But again it will not let you flash anything to the system partition so this is null and void as well. Being able to fix this is just finding the right combonation of older SPL version and older radio version in the same RUU. I have never seen a stuck radio be fixed by flashing from SD card.

Ok, I see. I was not aware of this 'stuck radio' issue. This is the first time I hvae heard of it. I have had the white screen of death before. Mine was caused by a flashable zip that I made which I had misplaced the proper files. I adb'd those files back to the proper location and all was well. That is why I was asking if it happened out of nowhere or after something had changed.
If you cannot do a task 29, but flashing older stock ROMs do work may be because they perform a similar task while flashing. I may be the system partition is too full to allow anything to be loaded to flash.
But, I do not know.
