Thanks

open the app "droidsans tweak tools" and there's a button to disable auto-rotate.
I don't see that app... What am I missing?
I know im not crazy. Just a n00b
Are you talking about auto-rotate in the browser or for the home screen?
If it's the browser, you can disable it the browser settings. If it's the home screen, you need to search the market for DroidSans Tweak tools and disable it there.
At some point, you must have un-installed DST if your home screen is auto-rotating.
I bet thats what it is. The guy I bought the phone from did a wipe, and all the apps were lost, but the firmware was still on there.
You guys kick ass. Thanks for your patience. Ive had alot of questions since just yesterday and you guys always help within 5 minutes!
It worked like a charm. I love this community!

i agree...this forum rocks. i'm not very tech savvy, but i was able to root my G1, have apps installed to the SD card, etc, etc...all because of the kick-ass members of XDA.
and before the G1, this community helped me get WM6.1 on my dash.
xda is full of g1 jedis(im not one) they have helped me alot as well..so thanks guys
Is anyone else getting error messages when waking the phone back up? I would occasionally (1 out of 20 times) get an "application 'so-and-so' has stopped responding" and tapping "wait" would continue through the error like nothing else was wrong. As soon as I shut auto-rotate off, those errors went away. It was always a different program, too.

Happens to me every now and then, not as often though, may be once out of 50 times. See what program it is, if it's one from the market then you can remove it ( I would, I don't need anything on my phone that doesn't run correctly or hogs my precious memory). If it's stock... well.. you're SOL, just wait for Android to implement some better way of managing memory.
Good luck

I've noticed on occasion I also get it with auto-rotate disabled, but not nearly as often. Maybe a couple times so far since I've gotten my replacement last week.
When it would hang, it was pretty much any random process. One time it was Alarm, other times something else, never a particular process. I think it has to do with the phone sleeping and maybe the accelerometer is oriented one way and it wakes up for an event in another position and then hangs - I don't know. It was never really a problem and I don't think the hung processes were wasting battery so I'll just reenable it.
I don't use twitter and so I have no login details stored. Does it still use battery and data despite this? I have read that signing up and then going in to the settings and changing the update interval to a long time can save battery but I would have thought at the moment with no login it will never be checking for updates?

Can someone tell me how to delete it, please? I can't do it from the applications menu...
I don't see why it would be doing anything if you haven't signed up.
I'd install Taskiller and see if it's running.
Has to said, I doubt it'll make any real difference if your phone's getting automatic facebook and email updates.
Good point, I am running push email with gmail so that is going to push battery life back a bit. I disabled all the facebook stuff as I don't need that either. Getting almost 3 days out of it which is pretty good but still feels poor as I was used to an E51 which would usually manage about 5! Still this phone is way better...
3 days!
I wouldn't expect to get that kind of battery life at all so I think you're already doing well!
Well I say 3 days but I do turn it off at night so it is only from about 8.30am until 11pm most days...
Wow, I only get about a day out of my Hero, but then again I use it really heavily. Browsing, emailing, texting, GPS, music player and calls.
The great thing about the Hero is that it has a standard USB port at the bottom and you can charge it anywhere. I was at a friends a few days ago and my Hero was starting to run a little dry. I took a spare USB cable lying around and plugged it into my friends laptop for an hour or two. Hey presto - my phone was good to go for another few hours!

You can use standard USB Mini-B connectors?
*plugs in*
Well I'll be damned!
What the...! I didn't realize the Hero had a standard connector either! Looking at it, it sure doesn't look standard but it does work. Thanks for that
is doing that a good idea? Tried it on mine and it's quite a squeeze... i'd rather not do it if it'll damage the socket.
It's made for the miniusb, never used anything else on mine (cable sent with the phone still in the box)
hi everyone
i get a bluescreen of death when trying to use adb push or pull, i can use adb shell and that works fine, i can execute some commands, but then when i try to us LS or adb push or adb pull i get the BSOD, has anyone got any ideas?
What stop code do you get? I'm thinking a driver problem.
winblows has always sucked at looking after itself
it could be buggy drivers, it could be buggy hardware
try switching the cable round, i.e. if its plugged in at the front use a port at the back,
rofl, someone else go this, too? i thought it was just my girlfriends wanna-be step-dad looking at pr0n all night and installing every virus you could imagine.
dunno, bro. i'm generally good at fixing things like that but i've been swamped every time i try something. i know its not drivers or the port. yet it happens to me every time.
of course, her computer is a piece of junk compared to what you get now.

I've never been sigged before!
Solution:
Delete windonkeys.
It'll never bluescreen again.
(note: I suggest that a good use of the hardware after deleting windonkeys is to install Linux, although even totally blank, it's far far better than having windonkeys on it.)

i like windows. just because of the convenience. i know i sound like a nub, and im sure its not hard, but i've never learned to use linux. and with how busy i stay, basically all day every day, i like the little sleep i get and cant really afford to cut anymore time out of it to learn. and this only happens on a pretty ****ty computer. i never have problems with my personal desktop.

SWITCH!!! You'll suddenly realize just how absolutely INCONVENIENT windonkeys actually IS. The constant reboots that take forever, the viruses, the endless driver search every time you need to reinstall, bad web rendering, lack of good quality free software, lack of a useful text terminal.... etc. Nightmare. Really funny, I take a look at the new versions just to see what kind of glittery nonsense it has... total uselessness, like an 8 year old girl playing with glitter being selected to manage a 50 person team in researching new communications technologies -- she isn't going to be effective (not that there's anything wrong with 8 year old girls playing with glitter, just doesn't have a practical use)..
I have been surfing this site for awhile trying how to learn how to flash ROMs on my US tmobile HD2 and improve things on my HD2. I can honestly say I have learned nothing. I have searched and searched, but apparently I can't find simple, directions on how to install programs. I am absolutely new to all of this but would like a little push in the right direction. I am having a lot of problems with my phone and came here looking for some improving.
Some problems include:
-very low battery life (8 hours on low usage)
-a lot of lagging in the message portion. messages take a very long time to load.
-a lot of freezing
I would really like to learn how to install a radio. It seems like those make people happy. haha...
I have seen a lot of different things on this site that help fixes those problems, but I don't even know how to begin installing them on my phone.
This is my second HD2 i have gone through. I returned my first one, but the problems still persists. People seem to be enjoying their HD2's. I am not. Someone point me in the right direction please.

Some of the things you might try is, make sure to use taskmanager to actually close all programs, don't let them run in background. Try deleting your messages, not only just delete, but ck deleted items folder, make sure you empty it regular, or set it to delete immediately. try turning off weather locations for cities. Also turn off auto update of emails & messages. After you do all this, see if any difference? Then can start adding them back, 1 at a time.can tell the 1's that cause problems. Several of these things helped mine big time, it runs smooth now.
I ended up returning the phone, again. I will wait patiently for Sprint's Evo.
Well I think I will send my 101 back to TD and go with the SGT instead, the new update is making my 101 unbearable as it freezes often, and honestly I don't thing there is enough interest for someone to work on it and get root and roms out.
Hopefully I'm wrong and someone with the skills required to fix the issues Archos/Google can't seem to get right, will come along and make this the great tablet it could be with the right firmware/os
Try downgrading Voice Search, I had the same problems with my A70 untill I downgraded Voice Search and now its flying. Goto Settings, Applications, Manage Applications and find Voice Search. Click on it and click Uninstall updates, should make your A101 run fine again.
Where is that? All i see is force stop and clear data the other tabs are greyed out.

try to uninstall
you can also install OS Monitor and check for apps with high CPU usage
When I did it it was right of Force Stop, but if it has Uninstall greyed out then Voice Search is not causing the problem for you.

Check Best Buy for the Huawei before getting SGT. It is 300 and said no Contract. Seems like a good device. Hardware buttons are in a strange place but I would say better then these software ones that are unresponsive at times.
Faldiin
I have used a few of the Huawei devices and was surprised at how well designed they are for the price but I would be very concerned about slower clock speed, and Android 2.1, especially for a user that would send a 101 back for not being fast enough.
The OP should take a close look at the apps that you are running on the 101. Something must be slowing it down. If it runs slow out of the box, you could call customer service. My 70 with the firmware update is faster than any other device I have used including iPad and top of the line Android phones.
My 70 gets slowed down by errant background tasks. It still doesn't kill tasks like it should. It kills them based on RAM but sometimes you have something keeping your cpu super busy and it doesn't seem to be smart enough to kill that.
i have alleviated the freezes to some extent, but getting my Epic to tether either via ad-hoc, or usb doesn't seem to work,
root does not seem to be coming anytime soon to the Archo's line, so I'm still debating on whether or not to send it back.
