[Q] Samsung fascinate software for Vibrant ??? - Vibrant General

I was looking at reviews of Verizon's Samsung Fascinate and I noticed that there were some add-ons/apps no other phone in the Galaxy S line had, for examples; Samsung's Task Manager, that home screens edit Gear thing at the top next to the home screen numbers and I also noticed Swype had the Voice input option as well, is there any way we can get this on my Vibrant?

Dig around Fascinate's system dump, be careful and don't break your phone.

The Task Manager and other things should be coming in the FroYo update.

I will try to do that as last resort, for now I'll just wait for the Froyo update which should be coming at the of the month I believe, Thanks

I don't know about all the other stuff but the leaked 2.1 update for the Vibrant has Samsung's task manager.

Why would you want anything from that horrible piece of crap that VZW ruined.

Are you talking about the new stuff listed in

Is this a new task manager?

check out this screen shot from the new Desire HD. The notification bar looks like it might have a task manager built-in
Everything looks standard to me.
GPS acquiring signal icon, 3g/evdo/whatever icon, battery, time, calendar, missed calls.
Places, market, settings, possibly vpn off to the side.
Don't see any hint of any kind of task manager.

Ok, is it that hard to use the applications manager in froyo? Just put a widget on the home screen for it.
An iphone like task manager? Why not just buy the iphone? The evo is what it is and what it is not is an iphone.
watch the video on engadget, its not a task manager just a list of recently used apps. same list you will find by long pressing the home key
Dont mean to step on anyones toes but to me it looks like a recent apps list more then anything else.
Lets not forget that task managers arnt needed with android it performs its own app killing when needed. If you read up on how andriod works you will see its better when its left to do its job. So unless the HTC crew has surcumed to idioucy then I highly doubt they plan to include a task manager.

Wasn't going off. If it came off as such then I apologize. It's hard to make calm statements on a forum since the written word can be interpreted in many ways from it's intention. Take from it what you will.
Anyways, it gets old hearing about people wanting "iphone this" and "iphone that" on their evos. Their must have been something you liked about the evo to buy it so why change it into something it's not is all I was trying to get at.
The previous posts described it better than I did though, it looks like a recently used apps list.
nevermind.
Tension in the thread.
I like that tho.

No, everything doesn't look standard in that screenshot. It has the recently used apps list (aka task manager) built into the notification pull down. Just another way of accessing it, rather than having to long press the home button.
Nice feature/addition to the new Sense imo.

The term task manager is being thrown around but not being used properly.
You can't call it a task manager if it's a list of recently used apps. A task manager manages active tasks, it doesn't list recently/previously used tasks/apps.
Take windows for example, when you pull up the built-in task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) do you see a list of recently used apps/tasks in there? Nope, you see active tasks and processes.
Again, I don't see any hint of a task manager and everything looks standard.

Fine, it's not a task manager. It's a recently used (possibly still running) list of apps. However, that is not "standard" for Sense to have a recently used apps list in the notification pull down area seeing as how it is a new feature. It may become (a) standard among Sense, but it isn't yet.
If it was standard, I could go to any cellphone store and look at any/all of the HTC phones running Sense, pull down the notification bar and see list of recently used/running apps. Not gonna happen....
Someone is a little pissy. Anyway, it does look like a recent app's list - I would like this more than holding down the home button
Edit: I guess it's been confirmed it's the recent app's list

I meant standard as in everything that was there that already exists in sense.
Again I was looking for a task manager not a recently used apps list. The list I can't deny is not standard. But if people really wanted it I'm pretty sure it would be available ota as part of a new update.
What I'm more interested in is the resource impact this "new" sense version will have.

[Q] HELP! Swype differnt on AT&T vs SPRINT Galaxy Tab

I have tested both the Sprint and AT&T Galaxy Tabs. While they are very similar, there is a stand out bug in the AT&T tab that is driving me crazy. The AT&T tab has an older version of Swype included. Here are the facts:
Sprint Tab
Swype v2.6.48.12228
AT&T Tab
Swype v2.6.46.11647
The major draw back to the AT&T Swype version is that in both portrait, and even worse in landscape, the keybaord is a fixed size. In portrait, there is gray bar dead space of about 1/2" on both the left and right sides of the keyboard, which means the buttons are a little smaller than on the Sprint Tab. This makes the keyboard a little less usable.
It's even worse in landscape mode. The gray bars on the left and right side are HUGE, and the keyboard is still the same size as in portrait mode.
Unwilling to accept this, I tried to boost the Swype version from the Sprint Tab, and put it on the AT&T Tab.
After rooting both devices, and installing Root Explorer, I went to the Sprint Tab, and grabbed:
/system/app/Swype.apk
/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
I then went to the AT&T Tab, and moved out the respective Swype and libSypeCore files, and copied in the ones from the Sprint Tab.
Upon going in to Swype's settings on the AT&T tab, I found that it "appeared" to have worked.
That was until I activated the Swype keyboard. I got a error message from Swype saying that this verison of swype was for another device and it would have limited functionality, please contact swype.
The keyboard DID look better. It looks just like it does on the sprint tab. However, "swyping" didn't do anything. You could run your finger around, and the line shows up, but then nothing types out.
Upon further review, I went back to the swype settings, and found that when I hit language, I couldn't get the pop open window to open allowing me to select a language. I am just trying to use the default English setting that it normally runs as.
So the question is, oh mighty gods of XDA, is there a way to get the sprint Swype working on AT&T's tab? Am I missing additional files from the Sprint tab? Is there a patch we can perform to get the Sprint version working on the AT&T version?
Attached are copies of both the AT&T and Sprint apk and lib files.
Help would be greatly appreciated!
Do both versions take up the whole screen in landscape mode?
Just use smart keyboard pro. Swype sucks anyway.

way to help out. OBVIOUSLY he likes swype. @OP:edit ur buildprop. therin lies ur issue.
trick the tab into thinking its a sprint tab. replace the build prop atnt values with sprint. this is how i got the sprint galaxy tab swype working on my viewsonic gtablet...even mic worked.
I noticed that the Swype layout changed with the newest Euro upgrade... any one else notice that.
Yep, now swype is fixed width on rom jm6. Version is 2.10.something.
Rogers tab is like AT&Ts in this regard.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849171
I dont get a limited functionality message, so not sure if I need edit my build prop... But I do hace the language issue.
As my Tab is Canadian, I have English (Canada), French (Canada) and what looks like korean in my locale/text settings, might be related...?
I want a working fullscreen swype so bad, please help if you have any ideas.
I on the other hand would like the compact version, less travel. I have the proper build.prop for the Sprint Version (fills the screen in landscape), I need someone's build.prop from an ATT Galaxy Tab, so I can go the other way.
Let me know if you can help me out, and I can post up the pertinent entries.
Do you guys think I would be able to get a full refund back from ATT because of this issue with the landscape swype functionality?

does anybody know, which firmware version has a Swype apk that scales correctly on Galaxy Tab?
thks

Brain.. cannot.. cope.. stupidity.. overload..
You'd willingly get a full refund because 1 keyboard doesn't fit the screen correctly? You're in for one he'll of a surprise when you download apps that haven't been updated for our screens then.
But seriously, this is the most ridiculous comment i've read.

Stock Dialer and Contacts App - Possible to switch out?

Hey guys,
Looks like I got mixed up with the two different versions of the Nexus. I'm a Vibrant (Galaxy S) owner myself. Yesterday, Mom came home with a Nexus! They're basically the same phone, so it was easy to navigate, etc. She had some major gripes though...
First of all the contacts and dialer app in Gingerbread seem to be quite a step back from what I've had in my Galaxy S since I got it months ago. You can't side-swipe the contacts list to either call them or message them, it doesn't have a list of letters on the side so you have to scroll through the WHOLE list in order to get to where you want, the dialer app looks pretty but it doesn't bring up names as you press the different numbers.
Is there any possible way to bring a Galaxy S style dialpad and contacts list to the Nexus? These features may seem like not a big deal, but when you're dealing with over a thousand contacts it becomes quite important.
Any suggestions would be very welcome! Thank you.

I dont see why not, but it would most likely require porting some portions of the Touchwiz framework

Hardware wise they are almost the same, but software wise, they're lightyears away. Vibrant runs on Samsung's TouchWiz interface, the Nexus S runs on pure Google Android operating system.

You tap on the picture to the left of the name, a box will come up and you can quickly call/text/email/gtalk/map/whatever.
As for the list, just swipe up/down the contact list and you'll see a little navigation square pop up on the left, you can then use that to drag up and down to go to the letter you want real fast.

My guess is no, the dialer/contacts app relies on the TouchWiz backbone too much.
My suggestions are above, and also, teach her how to use HER phone and not your phone.
How about installing that dialer app from the market. Damn what's the name of it, I'm drawing a blank. But it doesn't need root and it can be your main dialer and its much better than stock.
Ah its called dialer one.

New to 7.7, have question.

Good evening all. I just recently received my Galaxy Tab 7.7 this past week. First off all I can say is WOW, the screen, size, weight, etc. absolutely an incredible little critter. Anyhow I was wondering if it is normal for this device to NOT automatically put my apps in alphabetical order? My Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and my Epic Touch 4G do it but I have to manually do it on my 7.7 everytime I install something.
I havent tried it if it works on the tab with a touchwiz by look for an app called Appzorter, it works on all Galaxy based phones with TW that I've tried.
Get adw lancher ex.. it organize it for u in the drawer, plus its more efficient then tw. Wit it installed the tab seem much faster.
On my galaxy note on gingerbread w/ stock Touchwiz launcher it doesn't alphabetically organize unless you change the app drawer layout to "List". (The ICS leak ROMS for the Note do however) Waiting to get my 7.7 so not sure if it has a "List" option as my 10.1's and 7" on Honeycomb were always in alphabetical order like you mentioned, OP.
Like the poster above said get an aftermarket launcher and you can alphabetize them.
I am also trying to figure out how to do this. With my 6810, even when I organize them manually several of them go back to the last page on their own. Ive tried Appzorter, but for some STRANGE reason it shows as not available for my 7.7. but my EVO 3D can download and install it? So I tried to just copy the APK and sideload, but it just force closes over and over. Ive also tried ADW, but I dont like the top grey bar that is always visible on the home screen. Couldnt find any option to change that. Loving my 7.7, except for the ridiculous app drawer. Even the 7.0 plus I had auto alphabetized the app drawer, but my $600 tab cant?

You can hide the top bar on ADW.EX with the "swipe down action" under gestures. I think the one you want is "show/hide statusbar"--I changed swipe down to this, hid it, turned off the gesture, and it hasn't ever come back, including after reboots.
Nevermind. Sorry for the mispost.

I actually worked with the dev of the app to get it to work on honeycomb. I no longer use it because I use go launcher, but it definitely works great to sort the app drawer.

Keyboard update 10/2

Anyone else see this? Does anyone know the specifics on what the update does?
Sent from my LG-D851 using XDA Free mobile app
Where do you see it?
Yep, got it two days ago. I have since switched to SwiftKey. No desire to try it.
i would like to know also
Just got the notification this afternoon and downloaded it. I switched back to SwiftKey a few days ago, but the LG keyboard did have promise, so I'll check it out soon.
No idea what has been updated.
Seems like European D855 never get keyboard updates. Isn't even listed in app updates.
Today my european d855 got the new keyboard..
Isn't there new features to set collor of the keybord and keyboard hight etc.. Its good changes.

I find it laggier, but need to test it more to be sure.
Just updated it. Can't notice any difference at all. No idea what they changed tbh.
I just received the update in my LG D855! Version 5.0.27 and about 46mb! I found new updates in predictive language
I get this update too 5.0 27 and it's install automatically....i don't know the difference
Sent from my LG-D855
Got the update here in India as well a few days back. Looks to be under-the-hood stuff. Probably optimizations rather than anything major. A lot of people had previously mentioned that the 'lag' on their phones noticeably reduces when they disable/uninstall the LG keyboard(there are a couple of threads about this 'tweak' as well) - So maybe there was indeed some poor memory usage or implementation that LG identified and fixed.
Anyway, never really liked or used stock keyboards. Swiftkey is the best when it comes to localized words/dictionary & cloud-sync.
I never noticed the ability to use handwriting before. Maybe it was always there but I just didn't see it.
For me the update just changed the predictive text. If you type car for example it would show an emoji of a car (stupid imo) and now if you type 2 words with similar character it will auto correct to the last one you used so constantly auto correcting to the wrong word for me making it unusable
