Sorry, i'm bit new user for Universal, But i think my universal bettery drain faster than last Alpine. I want to ask other user, how often you charge the universal battery?
Thanks in advanced
Depends how you use it.
If im away from home at a weekend and hardly use my device - it might use 25% just being on standby for over 48 hours.
On a daily basis it might be on solidly for 2 hours throughout the day - when i get home battery might be down as much as 50% - thats making calls, texting, listening to music, bit of surfing on net, occasional game of Bejeweled.
Figures quoted by operators are 4hrs talk time, 240hrs standby - these figures mean nothing though.
Who's going to leave their device unused for 240hours to test it!!!
So in answer to your question charging at least once every two days perhaps every day depending on use.
Matt
@ matt1971:
Thanks a lot for reply, I'll figure it out. And test in couple days ahead.
my uni is always on charging as i use it to connect my lappy with that but it dies after 30% of its battery think it is near on its last days .
Hmmm... sthe battery is long enought if on stand by mobe, but if i play with it, it drain fastly. I'll looking for why?
Anyone can help? Or any sugestion?
my suggestion is to refrain from plugging it thru the usb frequently. my battery problems surfaced only after i used wm5torage a lot.... others may say that it wouldnt matter, that poly ion bats should have no memory effect, but i've been bitten twice and i wont take the risk anymore..
Question?
Hi,
Do you use Internet?
Cheers, Leo

Hello everyone,
Just got an XDA Exec yesterday with two batteries. However, the both charge to 85% and don't move forward. They've been on the AC plug for over three hours now. Am I missing a config setting or something?
Thanks in advance!

No setting needed to charge the battery until 100%, hardware failure i guess, any warranty for replacement, I mean maybe the unit, coz it happend on your 2 battery
cornelius,
Thanks much. It MAY be that these batteries have never been fully charged; I left them on overnight and although it took A LONG TIME to get over the 85% hump, they eventually got there.
battery charging
you do need to charge the battery first time for a good 16hours - i've gone for a 3200mah Lithium ion instead of the standard 1600mah - got it off ebay for £16 with a new rear cover as its really thick!!! only problem now is the brick won't sit in the car cradle ;-)
Robegee,
Does your unit report battery % correctly, or does it stick at 100% all the time? I've read (haven't tried), that these aftermarket batteries don't report drain properly.
Just curious... I'm thinking about purchasing an extended battery, but want to know. Where did you get yours from?
Thanks.
-Kevin.
So last night was NYE. I took my phone out with me and the battery was at 100% according to Touch IT ROM.
I took 4 or 5 pictures which were terrible, the camera sucks.
I stayed at a mates and woke up this morning, the battery was down to 20%?!
I haven't even used the phone and after 16hours or so the battery was nearly dead. What the hell, am I doing something wrong.
I always thought the battery sucked but this is a joke

same here ill try to get a new one
Check if you have any applications running in the background. Do you have Wifi turned on, bluetooth? Every module that is enabled keeps sucking power. If you don't turn them off, your phone can indeed get drained pretty quick. The battery is just fine, 1500mAh isn't bad at all. Do keep in mind that - due to the big screen and many options - phones like this just don't last for a week.
Also, did you fully uncharge your battery when you first used the phone?
If the problem persists, you can always contact SE to get a new one, as it's not supposed to drain that fast.
I know on the old P990 if you didn't exit the camera app correctly it just ran in the background and drained the battery. I do a double check in the task manager every so often to ensure that nothing was left running that shouldn't be.

This is a thread from Touch HD about AE Button Plus.
I am testing this now on my X1 because I am alos not happy with MY battery life.
dingolino
the camera is not that bad, actually it's one of the bests I seen in a mobile device... anyways, don't expect to take, for example, good night photos, but actually, with good lighting the photos came really nice.
as for battery; I'm sure you shoudl have something (maybe wayfinder) running in the background, with moderate use I get 3-4 days of battery without problems; and I never let it get down 40%.
i get about 2 days max on my battery. thats with nothing running in the background, althought it does ckeck my emails every 15 mins.
shame u cant buy a bigger battery like a 3000 that would last twice as long as 4 days on one charge would be amazing
Hm.... i have another one for you guys. I was using the phone non stop for the past couple of days. Wi-fi is always on and i watch media and use opera a lot. The battery lasts for about 8 hours. When i got the phone the battery was almost dead. I did charge it but for a couple of hours only. Then i charged it overnight for 12 hours. Did the fact that i did not charge it for a long time from the box affects my battery life???

yeah, i did that with a phone i bought about 2 years ago and had to get a new battery as the original one would die after a day or 2 (should last about a week as was standard phone). i always leave a new phone on charge overnight now so i know its charged all the cells
I'm not going to say that you guys are wrong, but...
This phone, does not need to be fully drained the first time you use it, nor does it need to be fully charged. That was only an issue on older batteries, it's not an issue anymore.
I also believe it says so in the manual somewhere So, I'm guessing you guys had some defect batteries, cuz it's not an issue with the battery thats in the X1.
are you using Itjes latest HD based rom?
I found I got really bad battery life out of it for a couple of days till I let it run down to under 10% then charged it again. It's working fine now.

I heard the same thing from a couple of people. Older batteries had that problem but modern ones don't. I just wanted to make sure =P
u might be right. like i said it was about 2 years ago it happened to my phone. but why take the risk
The only thing I had on was wifi and check mail every 30minutes.
I only use general useage (8 pictures and a few messages)
but that was it. I dont understand. I charged it for 20mins and its gone from 20% to 60%.
7hours later its only on 50%. Strange thing is, my phone has been on a radiator all day and it hasnt last that much charge.
Last night it was freezing -4c outside and wasnt that warm inside, then I slept in a cold room. I wonder if heat has anything to do with it :S

Did you flash your phone recently? was the battery at full before you flashed it? it's been reported as a problem on other phones (I remember the UNI used to do this) that if you flashed when the battery wasn't at full it messed up the power levels.

Mine was crap the first few days. I read somewhere on this forum to run battery to zero and charge overnight with the phone off. Mine now lasts all day and is recharged each night.
Just a sidetrack with regards to batteries...
When I charge my X1 with the device turned on, the battery tends to heat up till even the casing is hot to the touch. Is anyone else encountering the same thing?
However, when the device is off while charging, the battery doesn't heat up.
Weird...
It depends on what applications you've installed.... Touch flo drains it like hell.
My phone looks like this.
I use SE panel 1, no other gimmicks.
Pocket player for music 2 hrs each day.
15 min of video here and there.
2 hrs of phone calls, and a hell a lot of messages, which means keeping on switching the phone from potrait to landscape and so on...
SPB phone suite.
SPB wallet.
SPB Wireless manager.
I get a solid 2 days with about 15% remaining at the end of the second day...

As much as possible put the phone in sleep mode when you charge the battery. And the battery gets more heated up when charging over USB.
Hi!
I had the same problem some days ago. Even if the X1 slept on my desk with no application running, after 2 days the battery was empty.
I thought about what I installed last and deinstalled Batti. And now the battery lives much longer.
Btw... does anyone know a good app to show the status of the battery? Or how I can show it instead of the clock?
Batti was great but charging every second day was not.
Hello there,
I would really like some advice - my battery is draining like water. I'm quite convinced it is the regulation of the unit; I bought a 2400mAh battery replacement and it lasted ages on first go, but then my G1 started draining stupidly fast after I'd recharged it. This also happens on the stock battery too (buy even quicker!). I'm convinced it is the regulation because a) I've never had battery problems previously and b) the battery meter starts at about 26% when I plug it it in (after the phone shuts off from it being dead and I then plug in the charger).
I actually have a bricked G1 that still charges batteries, so I thought I'd do an overnight charge on the battery that way, to 'remind' the other G1 what a 100% battery is like, but that didn't seem to work either.
Can someone help? Is this a known problem? I would really appreciate any advice.
Mark
Things that cause ridiculous battery drain;
Backlight, keep it at no more than 30%
Wifi - turn off search for open networks,
Gps - wow does this drain

GPS doesn't really drain battery unless it's actively being used...at least not on my phone.
You can also try disabling 3G if you're not in a 3G area. It will keep trying to find a 3G signal, which really drains battery.
For the record, I have a stock battery that I get ~13-16 hours on from a single charge... my backlight is at 40%, GPS is always on, and I use wifi whenever I want to surf the web and am near an open network.
OP...if your battery is lasting you only a couple of hours, then I'd try to reflash your ROM. Might help...
Wow 13 to 16, I am lucky if I get 6 with 30% backlight, and wi-fi and gps off, I have always gotten that on ever rom even stock with no widgets, you are one of the very few with good battery life cause I have seen many complaints about short battery ranges

Yeah, that's on a normal, moderate usage day. If I use it heavily, with a lot of wifi and web browsing, then I'll get around 10.
Maybe your battery needs to be replaced... could just be old and not holding a charge properly.
It's 2 months old, has done it from day one, I also have another battery that does it too that I kept from a previously brick g1, so one 3 phones, all the same battery life but then I use it quite heavily, always browsing on the web since my computer burned out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555048
try that? 3rd gen battery could help..
Thanks for the suggestions, but it's not a wifi/3g/brightness etc problem - I've had a G1 for six months, I know exactly how much power should be consumed. It's also not the battery; I have two stock batteries and a brand new 2400mAh battery, which for the first few charges lasted about 2 - 2.5 days and was brilliant (as it should be), but now doesn't last all that long.
I may have made the situation slightly better however - I did a Nandroid backup, wiped to factory (well, Cyanogen 4.0.4 anyway) and booted into that. I then restored the backup and when I plugged back in to the charger, the meter was at 85%, and seemed to take a normal amount of time to charge (and not jump to 100%). It remains to be seen if the problem is solved, I've yet to have the battery drain (this is a good sign though) an plug in the charger to see if it will jump from 0 to 25 or not.
I'll re-post when I know.
run the battery down until the phone shuts off without plugging it in.
charge the battery while the phone is off over night
do this 3-5 times and see if you get any improvement.
also remember some of the cheap 2400 batts from ebay and such claim 2400 but that is from 3.5V to 3.0V. The G1 considers 3.2V to be dead so you only get from 3.5V to 3.2V which sucks.
I'm with gridlock on this one. My batteries suck. It always needs a mid day charge. And to the poster that said to reflash a rom, that is bad advice. There is known issues with getting poor performance out of these batteries. I have 2 and both do the same. Got the second one from complaining to t-mo about how bad it sucks.
Reflashing seems to have worked...the 2400mAh battery seems a lot better now, it lasted nearly two days (it runs at 3.7v, according to my battery diagnostic), I've only just recharged it last night. When I plug it in, it charges normally and linearly now, instead of jumping straight to 25%.
So my advice, if anyone is having similar problems to me, would be to try a reflash.
Thanks for your help everyone.
After successfully booting into android for the first time my battery life in android skyrocketed down, but that didn't really bother me.
The real problem is that even in WINMO my battery life is less than half what it used to be, and even after a night (8 hours) of charging (In a wall socket, not USB) its not at 100%
this has me very worried, any ideas? thanks in advance!
did you read anything before you started this thread...........
yes, i did. everyone is having a problem when they charge in android it gets to 90% then they switch to winmo and within minutes it picks back up to 100%.
this is not the case for me, my battery does not jump back up, it drains quickly even in winmo, and when it gets low its not just reading it improperly it just dies, so no this is not the same problem
did you know there are fixes .......and that your problem is not new at all....i am sorry to say that this is a know problem and you would want to ask in the thread of what build you are using and if you really wanted help you would post what build your using and what kernal , but no one can help you at all when you simply state you have battery issues
drain your battery in winmo till it dies, so the battery resets, then charge the battery again till full, it should be allright again.
thank you dipdap i will try that

I strongly advise you NOT to do so. Draining a Lithium-Ion battery entirely is detrimental to its overall life/capacity. So instead of ruining your battery (or going a step towards ruining it), simply turn off your phone, charge it until you get the green LED, boot back to WinMo and it should be alright. If it isn't, look for another way, but completely draining your battery should not be the method of choice.
nobody said to drain it copletely, just till winmo dies, which should be fine. I do this once every couple of months by accident, and have never had a problem. I agree that you should not drain the battery completely though, so, make sure as soon as winmo dies, plug in to a charger.
what rom are you running? I am using shubcraft 1.5 and mine charges to 99% And I can get a full day out of my battery with pretty decent use.
Are you using setcpu cause that could have a major impact also do you have wifi, gps or bt on. I know gps has been known to cause some major drain while in sleep mode.
There is also a thread where people are trying to find solutions to the high amount of drain in the development forum.
We use current widget to create a log and monitor Our drain. You should be seeing less than 10ma while sleep I usually see between 3-7ma while sleep
Funny how when you are watching your battery it drains faster. When you are watching the clock time goes slower.

You can look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770903
It was very helpful for me to identify how much current is being used while in sleep mode and active.
Download "current widget" from market and monitor your current supply for 30 minutes during your phone's screen is off.
Yeah with the screen off you cant see any thing but thankfully the log will be written for the current widget every min.
If your current comes out to be bellow 10ma during this time then you are doing good and should last you one day of usage else you need to pinpoint what is drinking all the juice even while your phone sleeps
Read the thread ALL OF IT, it will help you understand better.
Cheers.
alright thanks for all the help guys, the battery drain actually worked although i felt strange doing it, but still my android life isn't so great, i would love for it to work completely though because the only wquivalent option on my carrier is the Captivate (Galaxy S) and that thing is ugly compared to the HD2
such problem
I have such problem with battery drain under WM, after i run and quit android, but i found a solution, just pull out your battery few times next just recharge it and it will be OK .
Ok my gf has gotten the surround for xmas. I wanted to see others battery usage. In essrnce how long does your battery last. Hers seems to die pretty fast and was curiuos if this is common for these phones. I would give an estimate of the time but cant atm bit will tm.

Lots of complaints on the web about this. I've had mine a few days. In my experience, like all smartphones, doing a lot of stuff (like, the things you'd do with a new phone the first few days you have it) will drain it quickly. Once you settle into a normal usage pattern, you'll probably see an improvement.
The "bad battery life" complaint always seems to come from people the first few days they own a phone and are basically turning it on and fiddling with it every 30 seconds. When used like a smartphone is normally used, you shouldn't have a problem getting through a full day with it.
Oh i know bout battery life. I got the incredible. Only 12 hours charge(but i use alot).
Thanks for the response though. Just seeing if the fast battery drain is normal for this phone. She is deffinately not a heavy user besides txt. But it seems a fast battery drain is normal. So its cool
Do you use a battery charging technique called "bump charching"?
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Battery gets conditioned as you use it. Just keep using it and in about a week you should get normal battery life. The issue is that the os handles both charging and discharging so after a few uses the battery and the os reach its peak performance
I believe it is alteady beggining to condition. She's just not used to having such battery drain. Its seems more stable in its level of drain. I also had her "bump" charge. To get a full capacitu battery. I notices these phone only have a 1250mwh batterys.

Battery life is horrid compared to the Fuze. I get anywhere from 12-14 hours before needing a recharge and I have been several charge cycles. I suggest turning off data connections when possible and using wifi.
Better Battery life
My htc surround also consumes a lot of energy. So today I entered in SETTING > CELLULAR > and turned OFF data connection. I think this is change may save a lot of energy, at least I can use this strategy whenever I dont need the data connection.
Lets see what happens
1500mAH Batteries on eBay
The stock battery that comes with the HTC Surround is only 1230mAH (or something on that order). There are several sellers on eBay who sell an aftermarket battery like this one: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130467721933, which is actually a package of three batteries and a charger for $12.99 with free shipping - perfect for me and my wife to use and always have a freshly charged spare.
These batteries should give a little better than 20% improvement in battery life over the stock one. Does anyone here have any experience with them?
Sorry for the cut and paste link - as a new user I am apparently guilty of spamming before I had even thought of it (like Minority Report).
As of now she gets between 2 to 3 days use with medium txting.
Can any body else report on their battery lifes.
Also has anyone bump charged and seen an increase in their battery charge.

Good Battery Life
I use my data connection constantly, never shutting it off. Also, I spend about half of my day in the center of a building not getting any reception, consistently going from an area with service to one without, which has the phone searching endlessly for a signal. For the first week, the battery was drained within 12 hours, but now in the second week, I have about half of the battery left when i get home, play games, check email, do EVERYTHING, and probably have about 25% when i get into bed and only plug it in as I go to sleep. On previous phones, I would have been able to do this two days in a row.
I came from a Tilt 2 and ended up getting an extended battery (making the phone HUGE), though I see no problem plugging the phone in every night. Battery life is getting better and I'm not sure who NEEDS to go multiple days without a charge. Either you make your phone huge, or you plug it every night right next to you anyway.
I am very happy with the phone, and can't wait to do more with it.
