Missus' phone been playing up lately.
Now when you switch it on it either sits at the HTC screen after the android chap waves at you or, it sits there with a triangle with an exclamation mark on it next to a phone.
As its her phone its never been flashed/upgraded or anything as I'm not allowed to "faff" with it lol
If there a way you can get it into a "ready to flash" mode the same as I can on my HD2?

Hi guys,
So i bought a brand new white Rogers dream (G1) phone from this guy who said that he tried to flash the G1 with a hero rom and something went wrong and now the phone is dead. When I plug the power cable, the rogers screen comes up and it stays like that (and that disappears after a short while) - the light blinks on the phone though .
I thought I could get my friend phone to fix the phone (and he agreed and asked me to buy it) just in time for my girlfriend's b'day on Saturday but that idiot decided to take off to Montreal for the rest of week.
So, I am left with this phone - and $150 out........I have looked around the internet trying to figure out a solution but I havent been able to get a starting point...
solutions?
Well, first things first, we need to find out if you have a brick or not....
Pull the battery, wait about 15 seconds, put it back in, then hold down the camera button, while still holding down the camera button press the power button until it starts turning on... release the power button, but keep holding the camera button. If it doesn't take you to 1 of 2 different screens, one will have 3 differnet colored bands, the other will have skating android guys at the bottom, you likely have a bricked phone.
It should not take more than a minute to load one of those 2 screens, but for good measure I would give it up to 5 minutes.
The other thing you can do is hold down the home button and power button when turning it on, and it should take you to a black backgrounded screen with a green text menu, that would be a "recovery screen" or it will show you a box with an arrow pointing to a phone, that would be a "you don't have recovery screen"...
If you can get to any of these screens, we can help you from there... I would test the camera plus power button first, since using that screen to flash a working ROM will be the easiest route.
let me get this straight...
You purchased a bricked phone? why would you be so cheap in the first place and buy a used phone as a present? Did you at least try to turn it on first?
If you can get to the tricolor screen I'm sure there is something someone here can do for you.
BTW, I have some unreadable CD's that I am selling which I promise will work in your disc player!

LMAO this is good right here.If you can get a hold of adb there might still be hope for you.
....
i am tried the home/power and camera/power but nothing........still the rogers screen....
and i turned on the phone before i bought it - It was stuck at the rogers screen. The guy gave me a brand new G1 with everything sealed + a tomtom one gps for $150 so it wasnt a bad deal.
I had read somewhere that it isnt really bricked if it turns on.
Be nice - I was just trying to get my girl something more than I can usually afford.
Unless he was stupid, he would not have given you the phone unless it was truly bricked. If camera+power does nothing, then it is most likely a bricked handset. Buy your girlfriend a working handset and eBay this one as bricked.
do you have the sdk installed?? if not you are going to need a g1 to install so you can get the drivers working. now just try what a few others got lucky with. lucky is key here. once its installed and drivers are good. open sdk and cd\ to sdk\tools blah blah. now plug the device in, type the fallowing.
adb shell reboot boot-loader
if it says waiting, then maybe you have luck. so now disconnect the device with the sdk still waiting and plug it back in right away and see if it jump starts the phone into fastboot. you can also try
adb shell reboot recovery
these are for super super lucky ppl. but you never know. in my case it worked. i think if you go screen then you most likely are not bricked but thats just my opinion. when it wont boot at all you and you get the blue LED of DOOOOMMMMM then ya no luck. but eh.

If cam/power and home/power don't work, then it is truly bricked. Your friend could not have fixed it anyway. The only thing you can try is as above: get the android sdk and try to get fastboot to find the phone as it switches on. This very rarely works though.
Also make sure your holding the camera + power button or home + power button long enough.
sold it....
well - i sold it 'as is' on kijiji for the price i bought it for- after trying for about 5-6 hrs (held the camera/power - power/home buttons long enough)
thanks guys again, for your input.
Lesson learned.
Ummm let me get this straight....
You bought a phone
that didn't work
so your buddy could fix it
so you could give it your GF.
But when your buddy left for the week
and you couldn't fix it yourself
you sold it for $150 via the internet
in less than 24 hours?
Either your the "God of Sales", or this whole thing is BS.
Somehow, my new nexus one now boots to the boot loader and following that to safe mode. Blue light glows and I cannot figure out how to take it out safe mode. What are the key combos to get it to boot normally and is there a way to stop it always booting to the boot loader first? Don't quite get what I did with my fat clumsy fingers.
How did you geet into safemode?
Good question. Had the phone in my hands and suddenly the trackball started going blue. I powered off the phone and now it goes into safe mode only and only with some coaxing. Has to be operator stupidity. Still trying to figure out exactly what I did since I was doing a conference call for work at the same time. It did not seem in retrospect I did anything unusual but the trackball thing glowing blue was a new touch. To go into safe mode, some stuff mentions holding the menu key down while it boots. I gather that its a one-time thing and that normally after the one boot you get back to full featured mode.
It appears that the trackball is faulty on my phone. It no longer does much of anything. Perhaps I screwed it up or it was just bad. Going to send it back I guess.
Oh my... the dreaded BLUE led! This spelled trouble on the G1...

The Dreaded Blue Trackball Of Death? ....lol
Btw, sorry about what happened, mpmilestogo. Best of luck. Hope you did not unroot...
According to this page, http://www.friendskorner.com/forum/f56/nexus-one-tips-tricks-159691/
you must have pressed the trackball after boot started while the logo was up. I would try the reverse and press teh trackball after booting (as opposed to at the same time) and see if that works.
Good Luck
That is correct, hold the trackball after the booting process has already started to get into safe mode.
It Lives!
Yes, the blue trackball of death was averted. By some cosmic accident of fate, my Nexus One decided to come back. I think I must have splonked on the trackball when it was booting. Then after splonking, I just screwed the pooch even worse by punching buttons, fat fingering things, etc. No wonder I run Ubuntu on my computers. I could really screw up Windows given half a chance
i am totally surprise with your news
Hi all
Last night my phone went into "safe mode" - it will only run basic apps etc now - not anything additional loaded on there. It is running NAND Nexus 2 Gingerbread.
Through reading, I worked out what is causing it - I went for a long bike ride in the wet on Sunday and must have got some water damage to the central "windows" button.
As such, it thinks that button is pressed at startup which puts it into "safe mode".
Bugger.
Symptoms:
Phone says "safe mode" in bottom left corner of the screen
Menu button will not work in any apps
Phone cannot enter tri-color boot loader screen
Phone flashes on MAGLDR menu, doesn't allow down movement and will return to first option if you press up then let go
Just posting this up for some info for people that may have the same issue. Will try using a hand dryer on it, taking it apart etc and see what happens.
Hi All,
I have dug, and dug, and dug some more, but I can't seem to find out wtf is going on with this phone.
I was attempting to flash back to stock using these instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312) on my windows 8 machine. However, after the last step (Step 14 in section D), my nexus simply went blank. And stayed that way. Now, I can tell the backlight is turning on, however nothing is displaying on the screen. Also, my computer is no longer recognizing it. All I can manage to get out of it is my computer is a noise after I hold down power and volume down, along with a red flash of the notification led. The backlight will stay lit, but the screen isn't even turning on. It is also not showing up as a device, adb is simply returning "waiting on device" (or similar), and it is not returning the serial number after typing "fastboot devices".
Is it possible I hard bricked it somehow? I'm at wit's end here. and I would MUCH appreciate any and all help.
I've used the lg flash tool to go back to stock several times in the past never really had any major issues. Today something went very wrong.
After the flash the phone boots on its own. I saw the lg logo, and then android with the blue bar under him. Then instead of seeing the verizon logo come up i get all black screen and it says:
Insecure boot.ing
cause=
This is up in the left hand top corner of the screen. There is no cause its just blank.
At this point the phone justs repeats those same 3 steps above over and over until i hold the power button to turn it off.
Next problem is i can't get it to stay in download mode again to repeat the process. The phone enters download mode for a slit second and flashes a bunch of white writing up in the top left hand corner of the phone so fast i cant read it and then the screen goes black.
Anyone seen any of this before?
I'm lost at this point...
