[Q] How to disable automatic email check on sync - Networking

Hi. I have HTC TD2 with wm65 custom rom TESS Prime IV. I have 2 email accounts set up in phone, both of them are set to send/receive manually. But when I connect cable to PC, and Active sync starts, the phone still checks for new email, for both accounts. Email is unchecked in synchronization options.
How can I disable it?

Send/Receive Greyed OUT

For some strange reason, after resetting my Hermes 100 device for the 4th time in less than 6 months, I lost the capability of sending and receiving e-mail from within my outlook account by hitting the send/receive option after hitting menu. I check all my settings. When selecting Active Sync, everything works and the device connects to the server and performs the sync. But I use to have that functionality and I miss it a lot! My sync parameters are:
Sync Calender & E-mail only - same as before HR
E-mail Options 3 days 1Kb no attachments
Schedule is set to manually on both counts (Peak & Off Peak)
Send outgoing items immediately IS checked
Exchange Server 2003 is configured properly as ActiveSync works when hitting Sync
I am using a GPRS connection
Everything is just as it was before the Hard Reset. Why the hell can't I send/receive e-mail from within the outlook account. It works on the AOL account????

Email Outlook account / Other accounts

Hi
I'm struggling to figure out the email set up on the HD2 and hope someone might be able to shed some light.
I have set up 2 email accounts "1 at mydomain dotcom"and "2 at mydomain dotcom" and they seem to be working fine. I used Start > Email > Setup E-mail and filled out all the boxes with the same settings as I use in Outlook on my PC (incoming / outgoing mail server etc)
When I send and receive mail it gets stored in a separate folder for each account.
But ...
There is also the "default" Outlook account which seems to be the one that syncs with outlook on my desktop. I cannot seem to set anything up in this account for sending and receiving email. It only seems to have two screens - one for sync options and one for Advanced E-mail Options. The latter has a box for "my email address" but no settings anywhere.
Am I missing the point somewhere ?
What I would like to do is set it up so that my PC and my HD2 are pretty much the same. I'd like to sync the two and have the HD2 able to send and receive mail from the either account and, store these in the Outlook folders
Any help or advice would be great
Stephen
You need to change it using Windows Mobile Device Center as it's set there to sync emails. I made the same mistake recently...
Wow - fast reply ! Thanks
OK so you're saying I can set up all my HD2 mail accounts within MDC ? I didn't notice that so will take a look
Thanks
Still struggling
OK, thanks, I found Mobile Device Settings in MDC
Change content sync settings
Sync wirelessly with Exchange Server
Manage a Partnership
Connection settings
Get device certificates
End a partnership
But none of these seem to lead me to a place where I can set up Outlook mail on the phone (othere than sync settings)
I don't have Exchange Server - just Outlook on my PC
I'm trying to set up my mail accounts in Outlook on the HD2 so that whether I send and receive mail from my phone or my PC both accounts are available inside the Outlook account rather than in separate accounts
Hope that makes sense ?
Thanks
Stephen
When I first setup my phone using WMDC it asked what I want to sync with my phone (contacts, notes, email, calendar, etc.). If you select emails it'll sync your Outlook emails to your phone but not the settings. If you want to get rid of the Outlook on your phone you have to change what you sync with it.
Just in case there is some confusion caused by wording of the question:
If you use WMDC, you can ONLY sync with the Outlook email on the PC BUT you can only update email when you connect to WMDC.
If you want to receive and send emails when mobile, you set up email accounts within the HD2 email programme. Hit the email tab, menu, add account.
Then set up like you would an account in outlook
Seems it may not do what I want
Thanks for your help guys - appreciated.
It sounds like this HD2 won't do what I need then.
Sync between my "local pc outlook" and the "phone outlook" is no good on its own.
If I have email accounts set up on the phone which are not part of the sync I won't have a record of my mails on my pc
I tried sending and receiving within "phone outlook account" and that only works when connected to the pc which does seem strange
If there's anything else I can try or if anyone has a workaround to handle all my mail from both accounts and sync them between the pc and phone I'd love to hear
Thanks
Stephen

Setting up 2 exchange accounts

Is there a way to setup 2 exchange accounts? I had an iPhone before I switched to the HD2 and had downloaded an application which allowed me to configure more than 1 exchange account. I would like to have my work and Gmail setup as exchange push. Is it possible?
Hi 94loranger
It is possible to do two exchange accounts with the HD2 but I'm not sure about two lots of e-mail. I'll give you an example, we have a shared account for our company appointments and one for our own e-mail and contacts. On my HD2 I have 2 exchange accounts, one to the shared calendar and one to my work e-mail. I also have an IMAP account specified for my own personal e-mail server.
To get the two exchange accounts setup you have to get the sequence right or it doesn't work. Also once you have done this activesync / mobile device centre will show an error every time you connect as they can only cope with a single exchange account. It doesn't stop you from accessing the phone though my computer though.
Starting with a new phone, no accounts setup tap Start -> Tools -> Active Sync. Then tap menu -> new server. Enter the details for your exchange server and when you get to the final screen un-check the items you don't want to sync for this account. In my setup I un-checked everything except the calendar. Complete the wizard and let it sync.
Once this is done tap Start -> E-Mail. Tap the "Setup E-Mail" option and follow it though. If you opt to setup another exchange count. You will only be able to synchronise the items you didn't select when setting up the account through active sync wizard. For my setup this accounts does the e-mail, contacts and tasks. Complete the wizard and let it sync.
You can go back to Start -> E-Mail and setup any other POP or IMAP accounts you need.
I hope this give you some clues as to how you want to achieve what you want. I found the clues on a website somewhere, just can't remember where
Take care,
Ryan
I will try to set it up that way and see if it works. Thanks

How to set up my email in HTC Sense

Hello everyone,
I've got myself a new databundle which allows me to be connected to the internet constantly and I want to set up my email.
Now if i connect my topaz it sync's my outlook mail automaticly, but when disconnected it doesn't get my mail, when 3G and connection on.
I want the following:
When i'm not using the PC, I want my HTC to get the incoming mail for me but once connected to the pc again, these mails should have to by synced so they appear in my PC outlook at the end.
I don't know how it works in example, if I get a mail with alot of images or attachements, does the HTC download them? Or does it leave those messages on the server? I cannot lose them.
Or do I have to setup my HTC to leave a copy on the server so my outlook downloads the new messages again for a second time? (In that way only the mails that arrive on the go appear in my HTC and I can delete them without worries) - but is that even possible?
I'm really bad at understanding this.
Hi,
have my Touch Pro2 set up like follows:
- imap connection to get all emails on the run. Means originals will be kept in your inbox.
- Sync connection to outlook with individual settings for what has to be synced. (can be set easily in the windows sync manager)
My Outlook is set up with a pop3 connection and finally collects the messages from the ISP-inbox to my local disc.
In that way I am always up to date but means a periodical syncing...
That seems what i need!
How can I setup the imap connection? I don't need all my mail on the HTC, i only want to store on my PC, just the new one's i like to read on the road when i'm gone, automatically being downloaded on my PC too when i'm on it again.
However, if I do sync my email with outlook, will the imap email and the synced outlook email be together in one folder or be seperated? Will there be doubles?
Thanks!
It seems that my ISP doesn't support IMAP. How can i set an option 'leave a copy of message on server' with my HTC and POP account?
well actually when I'm on the go, I recieve all my mails via the imap connection. Imap means, that you download the email every time, when you want to read it on you HTC as long as the mail is not collected by your outlook. When you collect your emails via otlook to your local PC-disc, the mails will not be any more available via the imap connection on your phone after manual or automatic "updating".
In my HTC I have three folders set up. 1 folder is my PC outlook, the other two my email-accounts (IMAP). After having collected all my mails by outlook, I have to proceed a sync between PC and HTC and all my local stored Emails are on my HTC. Set up what and how e.g. will be done via the Mobile sync software from Microsoft.
Btw.: check your mail provider again (FAQ or else). Cannot imagine, that any mail-provider does not offer any IMAP function. Just had it years before with my dadys mail accounts. there was e.g no POP3 solution available but IMAP4...

[Q] Email Configuration Questions

Hi There!
I want to configure my wife's Defy so she can get email from her gmail account.
I don't want it to be pop3, as I don't want to remove any of the messages from her gmail account, as she also gets her email via pop3 on her Desktop Outlook?
I see 2 different gmail options on her phone, is it an option to get some form of sync'd account or perhaps is Imap the only other option?
Cheers
You might have to enable IMAP in your Gmail account preferences, but you can also use POP3 and configure it to not delete the messages on the server.
Also from my experience the default mail application works better than the gmail one which is slow and doesn't always show latest messages to me.
I see 2 different gmail options on her

Yah I am finding it hard to believe there isn't some form of activesync syncing option.
