What is the best navigation app? - Vibrant General

what's the best? And why? I tried google's and it works but its too simple, I tryed ndrive too.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

you say too simple like it's a bad thing
google navigation ftw (IMO)

try CoPilot Live.......
but seriously for FREE bucks you can't beat Google Nav.....
Thanks Google

Lol thanks coper, I was reading the comments for copilot but didn't like them, btw I live on or in usa

The only thing Google Nav is missing is the ability to do waypoints so you can add stops, or just customize your route. Other than that, it's the bee's knees.

Google....

Google can not beat free

google= FREE= pretty damn good for free!!

You can KINDA do waypoints with a "My Map". Thats what I do on my trips.
The only feature that I really miss from GMaps/Nav is side loading pre-created map tiles/Cached maps. I wanna be able to use GMaps outside the US without incurring data fees.

You guys using google- what do you do when you don't have service? I tried this for the first time, got to my destination fine but the couldn't route to anywhere else.
Edit: lucky it was a trial run and I knew where I was and how to get home.

Sorry but I don't go anywhere where there isn't at least some coverage there a few spots but it will only last a mile or two before I get a signal back
If you are driving through many areas without cell coverage you will need a regular GPS

Not necessarily. There are standalone apps like CoPilot that store the maps on the phone. You don't need a cell signal for those.

I've been tempted several times to purchase CoPilot because the software seems excellent, but I've heard bad things about their maps being outdated. Since the map data is a pretty big chunk of what you're paying for I've been hesitant to pull the trigger. Google Navigation is fine for now...until I need to go somewhere without cell reception, that is.

With the current state of the Vibrant GPS, they all SUK.
google maps is #1 by a mile. and now with google walk as of today's update

Only problem is that Google Nav doesn't work without a cell signal, so in my eyes it's not a complete solution. It does work well, though.

Yeah I think it works awesome, when I have service. Problem is when I'm on road trips I often find myself without service and that's when I need service. Doesn't come up all the time but when it does it would be nice to have gps.

Thanks dex, ill check that out, man I love this haha I been playing with it all day first was a road test which worked great, I cant bealive how occurted it is, at home I look for my location, its like 3 houses away, not blocks (new york) I vome from the original iphone, had for years so I'm impressed, thanks for the comments

DJ05 and GPS

I know there's a leaked version of this update around. Is there a way to extract the GPS portion of the update and install it while not doing the full update? I read tgag the only change is something in the GPS lib that made the GPS dead on.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Mine takes anywhere from a couple minutes to like 10..... IF it locks on. The only thing that worries me about applying the full DJ05 is the concerns voiced in the same link above.
It's been fixed since a month ago. I don't know why people using fascinate think that the GPS is still broken. Go get FasterFix and you'll get a lock within a second.

I use FasterFix RC3 and it still takes me several minutes to get locks. Anywhere from 5-15 minutes and that's using GPS Status after using FasterFix. My original droid locked on in half a second, I understand why people complain so much about it. Also every fix doesn't work for every phone.
I shall search

Ummm the average person loves Android due to Free nav. With a **** gps like on fascinate it = fail!! I didn't pay big money to find a fix like fasterfix! Btw it doesn't work. Nor did 2.2 on vibrant fix its GPS issue. So it won't on fascinate either!!
When I hear people say "what gps problem" I laugh.
That's the only thing that bugs me is GPS and lack of updates.

1) i never stated i'll be using it. I have wifi everywhere i go. i always go to friends, my own house, school, or starbucks so i'm good.
2) If people are smart enough to "hack into my system" inside i'll be waiting with a sign saying "congrats!!! you just spent all that time hacking me when you could've knocked on my door and gotten the password! WOOPIE!"
IDC if anyone "hacks" into my wifi.
If more people use it its not costing my extra, so i don't really care. I give my friends my wifi pass if they need/want it anyways.

Is there such a thing as a GPS lock?

The reason I ask is because the old lady suspects me of cheating on her, which I totally am, (high five!) And wants me to use some GPS tracking app so she can check on where I'm at. I've turned it off a couple times only to get a call two seconds later from her...
I've searched the market for such an app with no success. So I was wondering if anyone here knew of one, or a way to lock or fix my GPS location to places even if I'm not there...

There never, ever is a good or valid reason for that kind of low life behavior. It's just cowardice or total lack of character. Any one who thinks this behavior is excusable or justifiable is admitting to a similar mindset.

I honestly do not think their comparable.
Siri still has a + side to it, for example you can ask it something in any way you want to and it will reply, Google Now does not, yet anyways.
Anything else, Google Now has done better so far, organization, information, etc.
