Hello to everyone - this is my first post on this phorum.
I am wondering if anyone tried to do something with the phone to make it possible to record in 60fps. Maybe there is some application, thanks to which we can do such a thing. If not, maybe some experienced user could tell me what should i edit to gain such a possibility.
(Sorry for my poor language skills)
i am also looging for a slow mo app would be quite good
If it is possibe for droid X, it should also be possible for x10. I WAS SEARCHING the market, and havnt found anything. Some droid x users have been editing some system files. It would be a great feature for our phones. On some websites I found information, that some android users were able to reach 120 fps video recording (surely on lower resolution).
wouldnt mind an android video editing app aswell ... even my n95 had build in editor for the mp4 video which wasnt too bad, iphone has imovie, wee need android editing app
Video editing is absolutely different plot. With postprocesing whe can not achieve slow motion effect. Also, i think that it is a waste of time to edit video on phone, eventually for mms purpouse.
It is a shame, that almost noone is interested in this topic. Maybe my question is so stupid, and everyone has already managed to achieve slowmotion in x10

What troubles me these days is that a lot of new phones have such poor video recording capabilities. My years old Nokia 6233 can film VGA @ 15FPS. This was, for it's time quite amazing. Soon the Nokia N series followed with VGA @ 30FPS.
Last week Apple introduced the Iphone 3G S. One of it's key features is the capability to record video at VGA 30FPS. This was a biggy for everyone, but I thought: WTF! What's so amazing about this?
Both HTC Android phones can now also film. This however is in very poor quality. I checked spec's from various different phones and noticed both the G1 and Magic have relatively the same spec's as Iphone's, Nokia N series etc. I got me wondering... Why is the video recording quality so poor? Is this a software issue, or is the hardware simply just not capable enough? This last thing would really surprise me when I compare the Android phones with my years old, 2 megapixel, Nokia 6233.
I'm in the market to buy a new phone. I want Android, but I also want a decent video recording capability. My question: Will the HTC G1 or Magic ever get VGA @ 30FPS recording, or is it simply not possible?
This needs to be moved to the general section. This is NOT a development question.
A lot of those phones may have a dedicated built-in video processor that can keep up with the intense amount of processing required for video processing.
dont respond to the posting until it gets moves, people need to fing learn where to post.
I think my question actually is a development question since I'm wondering wetter this is hardware capability issues or software/programming. What better place to ask then the place were people make the software and (hopefully) have knowledge of the hardware there programming on?
Hmmm, i wonder what the Dream applications and games section is for..? Oh, for things like this that doesn't involve ROM building and/or hacks possibly. Move the thread please

please post in the correct threads or your post may well end in the trash!
To finally answer your question:
There's different types of VGA @ 30 FPS. There's the "Hey, this is actually a movie" kind, and the "Hmm, what was that ? Why is it ghosting?" kind.
The camera in the G1 (and the iPhone 2G and 3G, not 3GS) is closer to the second kind. You could shoot 30 frames per second @ VGA resolution, but it would look like crap.
So if this is important to you, get another phone.
there should be a way you could do at least sharp non ghosted [email protected] or [email protected], i have no idea how open the camera is on this phone though. it would be nice to get it less shakey at a cost to resolution. like most webcams
I read an article from engadget saying that someone managed to tweak the camera via the OS on the Nexus One to record 720p videos. Since they both have 5mp sensors, would it be possible to do the same? The only difference is the OS, so the way we would have to accomplish this would be much more difficult I assume. It would be awesome if it could be done.

the hd2 camera can record 720p videos the problem is in the windows os it hardly supports wvga mp4
Not going to happen. I'm guessing drivers will need to be written, and such in order to even get decent playback on the FPS. I wonder if there are any SD-card requirements for the N1 modification such that it needs to be Class 6 to ensure fast-write speeds.
doesnt look great even though its 720p though, probably due to bad light. I wonder if we can tweak the HD2 to at least record 720p to play back on another device such as a PC.
yeah i've been wondering the same
Same here, used the "Search" before starting a new Thread and found this one
just saw this, id be willing to donate to anyone able to get 720p on the hd2.
it would be nice, but i would honestly never use it. but for bragging purposes, i think it would be great.. haha
That would be awesome if someone could figure out how to make Windows shoot 720p, they would be my hero.
My roommate is about to get the 4th Gen iPhone, and I want to make sure that mine is in every way equal to or better than his, so I don't have to hear continuous Apple Elitism.

Honestly, why do people feel the need to compare phones? They're for different people with different tastes. If he feels the need to completely tell you how your purchase was horrible or that your phone is inferior to his, tell him to grow up and get a life or something.
And you my friend, shouldn't be bothered with trying to "prove" your phone to him. That's just downright silly.
What would we need to get this project started? We do need to know where the drivers are located at and their corresponding registry entries, as well as any registry strings that could be useful in accomplishing this.
Do you really need extra video resolution?!
At the end of the day, 720p doesn't really mean better quality, it means a larger video res. Its almost like the megapixel myth everyone believes...
Hmmm, we can still try.

impossible on wm6.5 sad to say that ,windows doesnot support this resolution
Oh well lol.
the current camera app doesn't, in as much as it sits on top of winmo and isn't setup to do so. If windows can handle larger resolution pics then why not video?. has anyone tried hacking the camcorder app and the windows registry to see if it can be bastardized to do so?.
Note, video is about frame resolution and speed, if you increase the frame resolution you increase the quality.(if the cpu can handle it) The camcorder app is effectively taking still photos at 640x480 and sticking them together nothing more, theoretically if we manage to increase the resolution before stitching it should work. However there is the matter of codecs / compression, not only would winmo need to be adjusted but the codec / compression algorithum too. I am sure it could be done but it might be a mammoth task.
Well the HD2 has no HDMI output & its screen is only 800x480 so the only point of 1280x??? playback is for bragging rights
Similar issue with the iphone4, like whats the point of HD if the screen is so small you wont see the detail. Is it a higher resolution but smaller in size to HD2
Ive tried play 720 on my HD2 with a few different codecs/players & the best I got was stuttery playback.
Well if anyone has tried play 720p on a desktop PC with anything less than 1.6ghz then it will stutter. Although is a PC a whole different ballgame?
I think what would be nice for the HD2 would be 800x480 video recording with a few different codecs/bit-rates to choose from

Huh, because people then take the video and play it back on their computer, or put it online, like with any camcorder?

Ahh yer of course, d'oh!
Would be nice to have HD recording for playback on a pc
Doubt the quality would be brilliant, but its a phone heh heh
hehe, the whole point of tinkering IS just b/c u can do it.
y put android on the TP2, just b/c
hehe
why give the nexus one 720p
just b/c it can handle it
I've noticed the 800xwhatever video recording afforded in froyo 72 doesn't allow for different size/type of recording, like mms or whatever....
and wondered, if it's possible to simply change a .plist (sorry, i use macs) or something that will allow the options again for say...
720p vs 800 vs 320 vs 240 vs 180-slo-motion-high-framerate
anyone else considered it ? it would be pretty cool to capture @ 60/120/180fps even at lower frame sizes to show action/fails/you-get-the-idea.
I promise I won't use this power for porn. ;-)
so, any ideas ?
Your better off capturing the raw video and doing that stuff in post. If you have an idea learn to impliment it. There is already someone working on 720p and it has settings to change the video size, which is something you wanted to do.
The video will be resized when you send a MMS so I don't think you need to worry about that aspect.
Comming from the Marketing aspect of video/photography it's always best to capture as much as you can, then do other effects after the fact that way you don't limit what you already have.

i getcha ^ right, but the post processing will mean a good deal of swapping between a computer and the phone. 720p is great, if i want an archive to pull from later on, editing bits and pieces etc but that will not work for a mms or email attachement.
or maybe
i've missed something in the froyo version of gallery/camera as mine is currently dropping to an OVERSIZE FILE error for anything that is not selected as 'mms' or whatever sized video before shooting.
currently frf72 only allows shooting in xyz mode, but no post processing, no resizing.
if sizes were selectable before shooting AND frame rates, it might confuse the user, or like you've pointed out give them a very poor quality video when what was expected was something else. i think it's better as you've pointed out, K.I.S.S. and let it be.
guess this thread could be locked/deleted or whatever. idea would add confusion and delay.
It's not a bad idea, just one that doesn't really have a practical use for being on a phone when you can do so much more with a basic computer program.
could anyone fix the Sw of camera for 30fps recording in night? look at samsung galaxxy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL06Y4hTvKw
cmon! hey guys
this is probably possible but it isnt a vital issue hence it will not get a fix anytime soon.
you may find that changing settings to auto instead of manual might make it smoother, its not that bad i did a test video and media coder reported it @ 25 fps which is good enough
If you owned SGS before DHD you will be screaming with anger, i know i am, regarding camera quality ...
sorry i meant to say change it from auto to manual, i just realised i had it the other way around in my previous post
well hopfully a previous sgs owner with the knowledge to do it will come along

HTC are renowned for ****ty video recording and pictures, I's surprised you didn't look it up beforehand. It's something that HTC clearly doesn't care about as they aren't doing anything about improving it, it's a shame really.
obv in normal daylight it is ok i can get 30 FPS no problem. after that video is great anyone can extract htc camera .apk and repair it? for example cook some xml config files . i found there fps_layout.xml
Hi,
So i recently got a s5 and unfortunately the slow motion feature on the s5 camera is not in the same level of functionality as its compitotors, like the z2 or m8 (and iphone 5s). I wanted the ability to record the video at the higer fps and then edit which part i wanted in slow motion.
The m8 does this, although cuts the sound (which im actually fine with), and the z2 also does this but keeping the sound and slowing it down also.
So my question or request is: Is there a app, mod or the possibility of one, or even a port of the z2 camera recording( i have seen some features of xperia cameras imported, but not this one), that will do this on the s5?
A user here on the forum suggested to me the app reAction, which does have the slow down effect, but it doesn't slow down a lot and not in the speed that i would like.
Thank you!
No one? :/ what i wanted basicly is an app that records 120fps but can also play it back at regular speed or that doesnt process it to slow down and so i can at least do that in the computer (i guess this is more of a question than request). Or maybe a way to do this with the samsung camera app and a mod, because its in the app that the slow down is made after shooting from what i understood.
What i would really like is a port of the z2 camera or to functions like it or even the m8 that lets you edit. the speeds after. Is a port of any of those possible at all?
Same here. I'm looking for that kind of app. Nothing found yet
I actually just found an app today that it kinda does this, but at the same time it doesnt.
Its called kinemaster and its a video editor that lets you edit the speed of the video and select/make cuts on the video and then slow does down. Problem is that it can only do that with videos of 30fps, even if you have a higher fps video it either wont read it or just give you a message that will scale it down to 30fps. The end result isn't bad but its not really the same thing.
Also, the app is free on the play store and they used to have a paid and free version but now switched to free version but with a subscription a month and what that will do is remove the water marker that the app puts on the corner of the video in the free version. So, it kinda does it but at the same time it doesnt.
It would be much better for the end result to just have a app that would either edit or record it with higher fps and then we can edit that file on the phone. Something like the iphone 5s, or even in the android world the m8 and z2 do(z2 even keeps the sound and slows it down also, but if we could get this even without sound would be great).
The one I found, that of course is not same as having the port from Z2 that it's much easier and faster, is AndroidStudio. Check it out. I always use this one to slow/fast parts of any video
Thanks for the suggestion! I tried it and its indeed easier to select which part is slowed down and it doesn't give that watermark on the videos.
Still not the same as on devices like z2 or m8 (not to mention iphone), but at least is something. I have been looking online, especially on xda which is more reliable, to see if there is a port of the feature of any of these, especially the m8 since some apps were already ported, but no luck.
We would probably need both the camera app and gallery of the m8. From the z2 i think just the camera would be enough since from what i have seen that edit is done there after recording.
I still don't get why Samsung, from all brands with so much features and gimmicks, would just give a video editor or something to edit 120fps to slow down some parts.
Yes, totally. I hope they realize this and they make it. If you have any news about the M8 let me know.
We need to get a huge thread going to get attention
There is a thread in the Note 4 app section where a dev was able to vastly improve the quality of the stock Note 4 app. The software is already there in this time-shift app, all we need is a dev or a few to get into it and get it working. I'm not sure where we would get the most attention but if enough of us get together and request this feature somebody has to take notice. I'm willing to start a bounty and add 100 bucks to it. Here is my thread below, if you guys want to add your support that would be great or if anyone else has an idea of a better way to get some attention I'm all ears.
