When I run android on my HTC HD2, my phone becomes hot..Its mostly half of the phone where the battery is??...Has anyone have the same issues?
That is your cpu. The brains of your phone. Very dangerous. You'll mess up your phone and it will be dead
it is probably due to overclocked builds. Be careful with the overclocking properties of builds and avoid using overclocked builds
What you could do is (if you havent already) install SetCPU for android (you'll need to have root access for this so if you dont you'll have to install superuser from the android market). then you can set your device to be overclocked, but if you choose for this to be 'ondemand' then this that when your device doesnt need to use the extra CPU power, then it wont.
plus you can also set various boundaries, so that when your phone is on lock, you can reduce the CPU right down to a lower amount.
All of these should give you the chance for your phone to run faster and have the battery not heating up as much.
also this should improve your battery life a little bit

which build are you using? I noticed my phone gets hot with EVERY build EXCEPT shubCRAFTS
i am using shubCRAFTS too, sometimes it does get hot especially heavy surfing..
Mine becomes hot when connected in "H" mode for a long time.
If I just put him under heavy duty without network, it doesn't come hot... if wifi is used instead of gprs the phone stais way more cold.
So i think it's more an antenna issue (antennas are on the lower part of the phone too) than CPU.
Mine is overclocked, with Setcpu ondemand.

That I know, we're at 1.8ghz so far. I keep mine at 806mhz all day since I barely use it throughout the day. Once I get home, I clock it up to 1.5ghz when I'm using it.
I've ran it once at 1.8ghz running a couple of benchmarks (linpack, neocore, quadrant)
It did very well, but, ran very hot (could be due to the fact I had it connected to the charger at the same time)
Either case, how much you get out of your battery depends on how you use it, how you set up your cpu profiles (dependant on which you use. I.e. cpu tuner, setcpu), and what frequency you're constantly letting your phone run on.
I run mine at 1.5ghz, see no need to push it further. Im getting all the performance I need at 1.5ghz. I use setcpu profiles, one to severely underclock when it reaches a certain temp and a charging profile that runs at stock clock to reduce heat when charging.
1.3ghz. Not like i feel it however. But 1.4ghz one they have posted wasnt 100% stable for me.
Ok so I have searched all over the forums and through google to find an answer to this and I can't any where so here goes. I am currently running the syndicate rom with the extreme kernal installed and when I go to use set cpu I have it set to conservative but any time I try to limit the cpu speed with the sliders it doesn't tae effect. The green numbers above the sliders will change stating my preferences but the white numbers that show the actual speed of the processor will continue to climb past my desired bottleneck. It looks like thecpu always stays between a range of 200 mhz and 1.2 ghz no matter what I set it at. If I change the style to something other than conservative it will change the behavior like performance will keep it at 1.2 or what I select and battery saver will keep it at the minimum. On demand and interactive seem to respond as well but are a little buggy and any little touch on the screen will make the processor jump straight to the maximum and stay there fr a bit which I would assume would kill my battery quite a bit faster. Does any one know if this is an issue with the phone, rom, kernal and if there is maybe a better settng than conservative or a different kernal I could use I was looking into the phoenix or fluff kernal. Any help or recomendations would begreatly appreciated. Thanks

Its been a long time since Ive used it (2.2.1 scales pretty good) if I remeber right,interactive is what you want to select,but on some kernels conservtive is what you want to select.I never used the profiles,I think they dont work all the time.
That's odd I never had that problem with syndicate. And I know for sure that almost every overclocking kernel recommends conservative, for some reason the other profiles can cause problems. There's a couple things that I've learned.
Conservative, for one thing, is never going to be an on demand setting. Typically it will just up the cpu to the max you set it at whenever there is some sort of activity on the phone. Which begs the question, what do you have the max set at? if its 1ghz, remember that the kernel is overclocked, so a setting of 1ghz will allow you to go to 1.2ghz. (I'm almost positive you don't want to set it at 1.2, because then it will peak higher than that) I think the max you set it to should be the listed physical limit of the processor (ours is 1ghz obviously), and the overclocking handles it from there (at least that's been my experience).
Also, remember that when there is no activity (your phones in your pocket), the cpu will be at your minimum. So you save battery in that regard, because with out setting cpu limits, like if you're running stock, I think it might run at the max all the time. (I don't that for a fact tho) again, we pretty much have to run conservative, (I've read its something to do with these hummingbirds and setcpu and overclock widget aren't built fot them) so its an all or nothing deal, you can't get "just enough" processor setting.
Try creating different conditions to help yourself out. When I had syndiccate I had a different setting for the screen being off, for being plugged in to a wall, for being plugged in to a computer, and for being below a certain battery %. Those are really cool features and help out a lot.
And as far as other roms...I use baked snack right now with his ultimate kernel. Its only sllliggghttly less stable than syndicate (but most most most defintly stable enough for a daily driver), and I get much better battery life and performance. He recommends using overclock widget, which isn't as flexible as setcpu, but defintly gets the job done. You'll have to google baked snack and find his website since they kicked him off of here.

From my experience,you need to set it to 1.2 to activate OC...That being said,there are some kernels that need the interactive setting to work right...and 2.2.1 scales to the lowest setting when screen off even without setcpu,thats why I dont use it anymore.I will again once we have an official OC kernel for 2.2.1.

I actually used to have bakedsnacks rom and I liked it but it became a bit glitchy on me but I did think the battery life was a bit better. I only am using eclair as I want to wait for a final build of froyo to come out from sprint so the developers can utilize it better. I tried some of the leaked ones but I prefered the 2.1 better, all of the 2.2 ones were missing minor things that I used so I switched back. Also interactive setting just keeps the processor at max clock for a really long time before it scales back down and I didn't like that. Has anyone used the fluff ondemand kernal that is supposed to be for bettery battery life with syndicated 2.1? So I have deleted setcpu but it seemed to eat my battery faster so I put it back on. Maybe I will try some other kernal configurations since I was told that I can swap kernals without looseing data.

Fluff was glitchy for me,I liked Xtreme kernel the best.
So I have my phone running Ice Glacier 1.1.6 everything is fine but like I see a significant drop in battery from not much use. and it says display is taking most of the battery power. I have auto brightness on and not many widgets.. Any ideas ??
Do as I did change your blacklight settings and don't use auto bright. Then disable some service using 3rd party apps and trust me there is alot of them that you will never use or need so get rid of them from even starting and if it even restarts have it shutdown. I am also using IGv1.1.6 as I flashed it last night and normally comparing it with IGv1.1.5 its better. Also scale your mCPU with SetCPU and when idle underclock it normally its 800mhz on avg load. Don't waste your battery trying to OC it lol just so you can brag about benchmark. Do this 3 you will see improvement, most folks always talk about uptime but we talk about awake time as thats what really matters.

Set cpu is a program you can download that allows you to change the speed your cpu runs at. U can even make profiles so say when ur battery reaches a certain level it will under clock the cpu to run at a lower level to increase your battery life. It also allows you to overclock your phone to run faster but at a significant loss to your battery life.

What most ppl do is set a profile to run at the minimum speed when the phone is turned off to increase batt life..also, use a reasonable on demand setting for all other usage..no need to do crazy overclocking if you dont need the power

if you go up to 1.6 GHZ, you might get SHUTDOWNS...
if you don't run any games, or apps, sure it will work. But not smart to overload it.
If on Custm ROM, Read DEV Notes, usually they'll say (or mention about Kernel changing)
as a rule I keep it on 1.5 Ghz (when 1.6 was max) (have tested on about 8-10 diff roms) (never have had any shutdowns yet)

All of the above it true with one exception..NOT every cpu is created equal Not all ram chips and so on also live up to this..
Start over clocking your cpu slowly. as you push clocks higher of course lower voltage. This keeps heat down .
Two processors even made on the same casting can be totally different . Where one will take more heat with less errors and corruption and the die next to it will almost crash running its designed clock speeds . Being that extreme is very rare with a few exceptions. most are close as to a common ability. within a few 100 mhz.
So the answer is there is NO TRUE Answer. its trial and error but on the side of caution and testing clock speeds and heat is not a 30 second yes it runs. Do it over a week or so. I know with my dragon cup in cell phone its at its end of life from being over clocked for a few years. some last longer some die quicker.. Its kinda like drinking on your brain the more you drink the more cells you kill.. The hotter your cpu gets the more transistors fail the slower it becomes the more errors you have .
Relax .. go slow.do not expect to get what everyone else is claiming. and you will be fine..

Any is unsafe. Higher speed equals heat and heat kills semiconductors. Might work for a while but why risk it
My daughters has been running at 1.6GHz for 2.5 months without any crashing or blowing up.
I say at 1.6, you're starting to enter the "red zone", sort of asking for problems. Why go up that high? I mean, 1.5 shows enough performance improvement over the 1GHz...

in theory it is, we had a a kernel that OC'd the CPU way back then, but the SoCs on the Axons are probably low-binned - shutdowns and stuff like that are commonplace
But still, do you know what OC does to a phone? New phones are thermally constrained devices, starting from the snapdragon 800 series onwards. remember the sd805/810 disaster? Well...
If you run your phone at 100% load, it will run at max speed (1.56/2.15) for a very short time (say, 30 seconds), until the SoC reaches a specific temperature. After that it'll go down to a more manageable frequency, eventually going even further down or staying at 1.8 ghz, depending on your specific situation (the pink thermal blob might be bad).
That's why VR mode sets your cores at around 1.8 ghz, to keep them from going hot and lowering frequency even more. Sustained performance is better than burst performance on gaming.
Day to day usage is another matter, because more frequency won't mean thermal throttling when opening apps or unlocking the phone, beside the obvious battery usage
TL/DR: Be prepared to make your own kernel if you want to OC. It might not work
