Brick *-( My Hero is DEAD - Hero, G2 Touch General

I was wanting to put the uk3rom onto a previously orange branded phone.
I was told to boot up into recovery and flash the file splhard1_update_signed.zip.
Upon doing this my phone will now not start up?
I have also noticed that the charging light does not come on, when plugged in
(well no light comes on anyway)
I was asked to format the sd card and put DREAIMG.nbh on and then reboot using home and power/on. It didnt work
I took it to a local repairer but he said was bad flash and that it was now irrepairable. Another one, said it was beyond him *-(
I have since been told told that if i can find a repairer that uses ort jtag, they would be able to restore the boot, which will allow connection then 2 be made to pc. Then hopefully i can then flash original orange firmware back... is this possible guys?
Does anyone know of any such repairer in UK
cheers
Beano

how bout HTC they bfixed my bricked hero if they ask tell them it ran out of bat updating to 2.1

cool....
Do you happen to have any contact numbers for them in UK
How did you get on with yours?
thanks
Beano

Contact number is here htc.com/uk/CA_Hotline.aspx

Ummm, why were you flashing the spl for a dream?
And really if you do this, remember you're technically committing fraud, since you caused the damage to the handset yourself.
I am sure HTC will wise up to this "trick" pretty soon.
BTW, op, flash only hero roms on a hero. I'm sure you've discovered that now, but just reiterating.

If you can find the JTAG schematics for the Hero chipset, and find the right points it is possible to JTAG yourself.
You'll need an LPT port on a PC, HJTAG, NoICE Programs, some cable (I have previously used an LPT cable to JTAG a device) solder, some board to solder to, wire, resistors, and a logic chip.
If you're not up to that, which is possible due to the circumstances, buy a new phone, as you don't want to be commiting fraud now do you!

Now back in Canada, i sent off to HTC.
They advised me that they will perform the repair, but they have identified that a firmware alien to them resides on the phone. They suggested i invalidated my warranty but for 100 bucks, they see to it....
a hard lesson but one ill learn from...
thanks all

How to brick my phone??

I know this is a strange request but I need to deliver my phone for repair because of HW issues and since it seems way to hard to recreate the original operator image from the dump, I thought that if I could get the phone into a situation where there is no bootloader then that should be enough.
Any ideas?
Thanx,
Eran

I would say a bunch of big magnets should do the trick.

Wish I could but if I break it physically need to pay a fine
simple answer:
HTC doesn't take "the phone was burned" under warranty...
So instead of giving nonsense remarks, you could have said nothing instead.
Of course this is cheating, in a way, but since there are HW issues and HTC doesn't repair unless it's the original ROM on it...
Jocool: One method would be to disconnect during a ROM installation, thou i'm not sur if you can't still get it right after that.
You'd probably have to get it to the original bootloader which shouldn't be too hard and then interrupt it during a Radio flash.
Flash a radio and pull the cable about half way through...i think that should do it!

I tried this with a full ROM and unfortunately still gets to the boot loader. Will try this later.
Thanx

actually, i thought HTC dont cover software issues?
and if YOU damage the bootloader in the update process is that not your responsibility? as i'm pretty sure the RUU states somewhere that you update at your risk?
if i were you, just do something to fubber up the mainboard, best thing i suggest is to put something into the micro sd card slot which will basically insulate the pins such that it doesnt make contact with the memory card, that way you can get the thing changed like i did with my old charmer!

I need to get this to the operator for fixing. It is actually easy enough to return to an original HTC ROM but that won't work for me
brick your phone???
4 months ago I sent my device for repairing, but they sent it back after 3 months with a note that: "the device can not be repaired any more becasue the Flashbaustein (this is the name in German and I couldn't find the english word) is kaputt"
of course I can assure you they even didn't try to switch on the device in these 3 months... after a long discussion with the T-Mobile agent, I took my device home and tried to re-flash a new ROM on it and everything went as it should be.
be careful with the risks you might cause to yourself
i once did it with my htc wizard ... though i forgot how already ... but I think it did it through the sd card... not sure if it's possible with hermes though since I didn't try that ...
but anyway, i think I modified the first few bytes in the 512 header of the rom with random characters and copied into the sd card to flash my wizard.
Tada, killed the bootloader
I hope that you can do that with the hermes ... I did see a wiki on how to flash your hermes through your sd.
Hope this helps

Hi
Try this, i assure you that will do the trick.
Connect a USB Cableto the HTC, get a 20V AC adapter, connect a wire to the Positive and one to the negative on the AC adapter connector, connect the negative to the outside of the usb cable, and, use the positive in every other contacts, wen you see SMOKE, STOP.
I'am preaty shure that they wont get to the BootLoader
New Idea
I have an idea...
1. Get an anvil
2. Get a sledgehammer
3. Place your Hermes on top of the anvil
4. Drop the sledgehammer on it
5. Pick up the pieces
6. Glue them together
7. Polish it with a fine cloth
8. Wrap it in a fancy paper
9. Send it to wherever you were sending it in the first place
Cheers.

I believe it would be more effective with a high voltage... Just imagine pluging it directly into a high voltage power line... It would be better than fireworks
the best way is to cause an electrical fault. just connect a 12V car battery to the battery terminals of your phone. just be careful as you may kill yourself due to the high current flwoing out of the battery regardless even though its 12v.
Thanx to all that gave me ideas some practical and some not
I was able to convince my provider to replace my phone without turning it on so problem solved
I fried my blackberry by just putting it in the microwave for 15 seconds, pop and bam dead
If you wanna brick your phone, just go into clockwork recovery and format your sdcard and so a whole system wipe. That's what I did then took it to verizon and got a new Droid x.

Restoring my rom before servicing?

I've flashed my Titan but the usb connector port on the bottom has developed a short. I have to push the connector sideways to get a connection. I have a headphone adapter and if I want stereo sound I have to push on the side as well as when syncing. My PC doesn't recognize the Titan unless I push on the cable slightly right where it connects to the device.
Anyway, I'm gonna need to take it into the Verizon store to get it fixed and I find it likely they are going to want to send it to a repair center. I even replaced the verizon boot screen with the stock HTC one, so it's very obvious I've flashed my phone.
I probably should restore it to the stock firmware before I take it in but I want to be sure. It's a pain in the ass to reinstall everything after a flash.
So what is the question?
Most people restore if they are able to, but it is up to you. I have heard that many phones go in with 2.40 olipro, so I would assume that many go in with custom roms and splashscreens.
Roll the dice if you don't want to reflash, I figure we have broken our warranty in many ways that they could object to if they really wanted. I haven't read anything here or on ppcgeeks that says that someone was charged for a phone they sent in for service after flashing.
The question was if I should flash my phone with the stock rom before I took it in but you answered it anyway.
Thanks.

[Q] Any Hope For Bricked Phone?

so, ive definitely learned my lesson about buying things off of craigslist..however, it was the ONLY way i could afford this phone, and ive been DYING for this phone. ANYWHO, it was "Bricked" when i bought it, but was guaranteed it was fixable, guy says hes been selling these for the past few months, and hes never had a problem. i dont want to fix it myself, but just want to know if it IS fixable. i dont know what was flashed on here, wont turn on, no charge signal. all i get is when i plug it into the pc, im told i need to download the qualcomm CDMA technologies MSM, then im told it cant be located. should i have hope since ATLEAST the pc recognizes something is connected or was i just bamboozled? oh...it also wont recognize as connected in the windows mobile device center or activesync.
thanks for any info or help you can provide!
it REALLY is appreciated.

Can you boot into bootloader. If so, just HSPL, run a Task 29 and flash a ROM.

and no charge light, nothing, right?
Its a ..51.. version radio vs tmous phone. Its dead. The only way to repair it is with a JTAG device. Hunt around for specialist phone repair shops, theyre the few places likely to have one, or if you're handy with taking appart, you can buy jtag boxes for around 150 dollars or so, plus another 15/20 for the cradle to hold the mainboard, which will let you re write the bootloader (or some such voodoo). google "ort jtag" or "riff jtag".
I dont know any specifics about it, theres a thread somewhere in this tmous section where a guy talks about it, he seems to know what hes doing.
yeah, no bootloader, no light, nothing!
I gave it to my dad to look at...he said its dead, he's going to send it back to HTC, hopefully they replace it..im so depressed, I've been wanting this phone FOREVER!!
has anyone dealt with HTC? how long does a repair take? cost?
loads of people have successfully claimed on warranty, just be sure not to mention flashing and all will be well.

[Q] Removing Hspl with a broken usb port (literally fell out of the device)

I need to send my hd2 back to the carrier but I need to remove hspl first (You know hide any evidence of tampering with the software). How can I do so with no usb port, but with a microsd card instead?
Flash stock rom from sd card. But you know that from when you googled "how to remove hspl hd2"., right?
yeah but after reading the articles they mention something about the device now being able to read the usb port to restore the original spl, even though that doesn't mean anything to me, not being able to use that method. so I'm just double checking if for example a site called jayceooi is right by saying renaming the ruu file to leoimg will flash everything or just be setting me up to be able to remove it, since in the end of the instructions it mentions now you can connect to remove hspl as if it wasn't done already and every video I see shows the hd2 being connected to a computer to flash the original spl back. Anyways I've believed that flashing the original stock rom would do what I want but the "loading" screen only flashes for less than a second (in bootloader) so now I'm stuck trying to use different micro sd cards and but to no avail. I downloaded the official update rom from t-mo's U.S.A site so any advice would be welcomed.
to be honest i don't know what you are trying to say, but do as samsamuel says and all be good.
i you cant figure out how to fix it, just try to send it to the carrier, maybe they cant it too
Put stock rom (extract the .nfh if needed) onto root of your SD and name it leoimg.nbh.
Then just hold volume down button while powering on and let it flash back to stock and you should have stock SPL again.
Kevin: I wish :/ Originally it had the insurance on it and the phone is still under warranty and its been replaced multiple times. I've noticed the void sticker is broke on the model as well as the lens, that protects the actual camera, is missing. The wireless cable must be loose since something makes noise in there and wifi reception is almost nonexistent. To add on the charging port just fell out with little usage (gf likes using a wireless powermat so I know using the port didn't have much to do with it). To charge the phone I had to cut a usb cord and make a little charging station for the battery since the phone can't charge even wirelessly anymore. She's had the device for 4 months now and last time talking to c.s. about a week ago they said that with the insurance it would be a 350 deductable and without insurance it be a possible $600 restocking fee if anything was wrong with it. So Idk what that's suppose to mean when obviously the whole thing is messed up...
TheAtheist: I've been doing that I'm starting to think something must be wrong with the file I got from t-mo

I see a lot of solutions, but nobody seems to have told you to boot up your phone using volume down, which gets you directly into the bootloader, from where you can flash the Winmo 6.5 ROM.
Did you try that?
Otherwise there are numerous ways of trashing it i guess... mess around with electrical wiring and make sure the mainboard has a power spike or something... then you're sure nobody will be able to do something with it
Of course I tried it. The problem is that for some reason I can't get into bootloader, and I tried to do that 100 times with all different methods with no luck. I only can get into MAGLDR. I wrote all this in my first message in that threat
Well, from what i can understand after looking at your original post, you cannot enter the tri-color bootloader? Well, have you tried a hard reset? And, when you mentioned liquid entered your phone, you should also check the water indicator stickers on your phone and battery to see if they are pick or red. Else, they will not bother replacing or repairing it. Have you also tried resetting Android from MAGLDR? Back to your request, if you cannot enter the bootloader and unable to flash anything, the easiest ways to brick(any maybe recover) your phone are all void. The best way to physically damage your phone might be to short circuit it. Alternatively, if you just do not want them to know that you have flashed MAGLDR, you should damage the ribbon cable for the LCD. You have to unscrew the phone for this, but do gently remove the warranty and water indicator stickers before this. Please do explore all avenues like a hard reset and Android reset

Yes, I cannot enter bootloader and yes I tried hard reset (with volume up and down keys) with no luck. I checked my indicator stickers and they all look fine (white). The liquid damage was not a water damage I get a little bit of oily liquid on my phone but just a little, so very little of it could get inside my phone if any, but after that my phone just frozen on android screen and when I tried to reset it, it’s always freezes on android boot screen. And yes I tried resetting Android from MAGLDR, I even tried to install different android soft but after installation it still freezes on android boot screen.
Code:
the easiest ways to brick(any maybe recover) your phone are all void
Can you explain more about his one? And how I can do that?
I don't really want to unscrew anything because if I going to do something wrong I would void my insurance and they not going to change it at all. I was thinking maybe just drop it in a big cup of water and hold it for like 30sec - 1min. I think my insurance will cover water damage and I think whey not even going to bother to fix it. What do you think?
