droid x froyo update delayed -_- - Droid X General

i guess vzw sent the update back to moto because security certificates were being deleted when you update from 2.1 to 2.2. upgrade has been pushed back 2-3 weeks. http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/09/...ets-custom-rom-droid-x-froyo-upgrade-delayed/

this is such BS!!!
they've had it for so long, hell droid 2 came with it out of the box!!! same hardware ffs
I have a feeling that they will abandon the DX after they release froyo for it, don't expect any more updates from them

Lmfao...abandon it? Yea sure they will.

if you want froyo, then flash the upgrade thats already available on the forum.. its not a big deal whatsoever.. then when the official one comes out, SBF back to 2.1 and OTA it

That article links to an original story back in the first week of August. This is really nothing new to get upset about now.

I couldn't agree more. I feel people are expecting great advances from the leaked 2.2 going to the official 2.2. I am just saying I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't much different...

I know im not updating to the new 2.2 officially through the OTA system.. Im going to wait for someone to pull the file from there phone and then incorporate root into it and then ill flash it through the forum instead, much safter that way as far as keeping root goes

I know that quality android devices are being rapidly released, but the X is still a cornerstone device for the verizon and motorola. So i can't imagine that it won't at least get gingerbread.

Hope I Didn't Screw Up
I started with the Droid 2, but I fell in love with the Droid X - more memory, more screen real estate. I figured that I could wait a few weeks for them to get the same update to 2.2 that I ALREADY HAD with the D2. Someone please tell me that I didn't make a major mistake. I'm committed now. Once I switched out to the D2 this evening - VZW said there will be no more switches. I thought I made the right choice...now I'm starting to feel a bit of trepidation. Please help me brothers and sisters. I waited 3 weeks just to get this phone, please don't tell me that Motorola is going to pull a Microsoft. That's why I left those bastards at AT&T...I got sick of Microsoft's games with WinSlo 6.1, then 6.5, but only if you buy this new type of phone. I love the Android system. I wanted to see what the regular stuff looked like before I started 'rooting' and 'flashing ROMs' like I was doing nearly every week with Windows. Please tell me I haven't waited and sacrificed for nothing.

You made the right choice!!! I wrestled over the DX and D2 as well... side by side... there is no question the DX is the best!
As it is right now... the DX is still great! Just a couple of more weeks, then OTA.. Froyo 2.2..
Then, I'm gonna back up the phone and start loading some other ROMs!!

Actually, the droid x is slated for end of life of next march.
I can't post the link but do a google search for droid x end of life. The first hit should be to an androidforums.com post which links to another site showing a pic off verizon's systems.
Fake? Who knows, but with cell phones being more like computers, our dx's are pretty much already set to be outdated within the next month

No phone.. or any other technology is made to last more than a year or two.
Technology is moving too rapidly. When the "top of the line" phones are actually released, you can believe that there are already better phones in development waiting to takes it's place.

End of life means the device will not be sold anymore at the specified date; however, support for the phone will continue.

never expect a phone to have continued support. The d1 was just dropped from the list of devices that can handle flash. Even though it was the phone they were using to show off flash on android.
Expect the worst, hope for the best...

Not a prob
Although with the release of the Moto upgrade, and the 2.1 leak, I don't see why the two wouldn't be a simultaneous release.
Pretty nice update live wallpapers included I know that was something people didnt think they would get. Wish eris stuff would be released already. Ugly step child android phone such a bad decision...although I still blame the damn reps when I bought it because they stated eris would have navigation within a month or two of being released. Little did I know at that time how stupid they were

HTC Evo 4G to get Froyo next?

As previously reported, we all know that the Google Nexus One will be the first to get the Android 2.2 update OTA. Our guess was that Motorola Droid and HTC Incredible would be next but now new information has come to light that shows another contender.Bill from Android Forum has just informed us that his contact at Sprint has revealed that the HTC Evo 4G will be second to receive the Android 2.2 update. So basically Sprint will be rolling out the update in the same month of the Evo 4G's release ( release date rumored to be Labor day or after speculations that the HTC Evo 4G will come with 5GB to 8GB ROM OZCAR will be attending the Google I/O event this year and will report back on Android 2.2's ong list of goodies. At the moment, we know that it includes Flash support and will free up additional RAM. Furthermore there is now news that since Google bought BumpTop, Android 2.2 could even bring your phone a 3D home screen!

Credible source, or random speculation?
What do Nexus owner's have now? Sexiness, developer support? We still get Froyo first - but not as "first" as people thought.
I'm trying to figure out why you're upset? Because EVO is going to get 2.2?
Exactly what OS would you propose the EVO get? Are all devices supposed to sit at 2.1 and the Nexus only get upgrades?
The Nexus gets it first, I'm thrilled, and it's all a Nexus owner can hope for.
I'm glad the EVO will launch with 2.2. I want to see Android do well, HTC too.
Oh, and what do I have now? The best mobile device I've ever owned, that's what.

I'm not upset lol, I included the last part in order to cause frustration among people who thought the Nexus was going to get updated months before the Incredible, Evo, and other Android devices. Google is slowly stopping fragmentation though, and we only know that the Evo is possibly getting it so soon.
In order to start conversation, you must include controversial, irritable, or suspicious questions. People start to talk then..
People were using Froyo coming to us quickly as an excuse to not get the Incredible, or Evo - that can't be used for long.

dont be sad because even though you wont get the actual OTA someone who did might be kind enough to post it. root or not rooted users will both end up with the update. the only difference will be how you get it.
Nah, the stock 2.2 rom may very well be available to flash before the unmodded guys get the ota. You're not going to miss out on anything so no worries.
XDA will see it before EVO
A) No, ozcarguide is NOT a credible source. I have my news Widget set to check for "Android" and ozcarguide often pops up with news posts that are totally garbage.
Basic rule of thumb: don't trust lesser-known websites that post articles and don't have comments. If they don't have comments, that means the site isn't popular enough and may just be filled with BS in order to get page views. Also, don't trust news "articles" that are 2-3 paragraphs long.
B) I too don't understand why you're upset. Android has been absolutely blasted by every news source on the internet for fragmentation issues.
Google's goal is now (or should be to quiet people down) to have every SINGLE device running 2.2 the day it's released.
C) Stock Android devices will get 2.2 working MUCH earlier than Sense UI devices. Even if the article is true (which I'm betting it's not), it only says the Evo 4G will receive 2.2 "second". Nowhere does it give a specific time frame aside from "the same month" it's released.
2.2 could come out June 1st for the N1 and hit the Evo on June 30th. And remember, the June release for the Evo is still rumor at best.
D) Like galaxys posted, the N1 will be running 2.2 within minutes of it being released (or leaked)

You did notice I said I wasn't upset it like the third post?
I know that Stock Google Experience devices (as I have started calling then instead of Vanilla) will get Android first, that is obvious.. it kinda irritates me when people explain things that are already blatantly obvious to me in the first place, I honestly don't know why I posted this myself considering how sad the site looks.
Though, if it was true (which I think was my point), then the Nexus having Froyo quicker than other devices won't matter regardless since they will be getting it hypothetically in the same time frame. Even if we get it a few weeks earlier than everyone else, I wanted to make it known that the Nexus will not be necessarily the only "next gen" Android device that will feature Froyo in a timely manner. Putting statements such as "I will be laughing at you as you're waiting months for the Incredible to be finally updated" to shame. Which I have heard, here as well, trying to make it as if he Nexus is better the other Android devices because it can get updates more quickly. This is all hypothetical of course.

I don't understand why people get upset when more devices come out. my nexus is just as solidly built and beautiful looking no matter what comes out next. incredible? looks worse, same specs. this is Google's phone until Google releases the next "Google phone", and that isn't the evo or incredible or desire. nexus one is the top dog, flagship phone until the nexus 2 is released. so enjoy your phone in the present!
Its an operating system update on a mobile phone. No one is getting laid because they got froyo first. Supermodels will not fall all over themselves when you show them your about screen. If others else gets it soon or at the same time, I say more power to them.

Not a reliable source and just speculation. I would say Droid gets 2.2 same time as N1 since Google is using both as dev phones and they both run stock.

Only thing to be excited about is flash though. Ram and Colorballs etc is already on custom ROMS. I did like the "always update" on market apps.

Yeah but those of us who haven't rooted yet get lots of goodies. Colorball will be new for me
I personally will not use the always update option. Some of my apps work perfect and I've been burned before by updating and it either breaking the app, or it takes a feature I love away. Now I backup using astro and wait to see what the update entails.

Why is the Incredible the last to get any Froyo Love??

Showing my Newbness: What is the biggest hurdle to building froyo from source for the Incredible? How do HTC phones that came out at the same time and later have Froyo roms already and we have nothing? I don't get it. I started reading the developer guide to try and set my own kitchen up and get an understanding of how this works. Can anyone enlighten me as to how the Evo, Desire, Nokia, Atari 2600 and Nintendo DS (Last 2 are jokes) have froyo builds and we have nada??

Not many dev's have our phone plus it was the last one rooted as well. It sucks but it'll come eventually.
I thought the Evo was the last. I guess I can understand the phone shortage. Thanks for the fast reply!
The EVO was immediately rooted and is FAR easier to root as well. We are the new kid.
The EVO was rooted before it was even released, due to the unrevoked1 team.
I helped a friend downgrade her moto, root it and upgrade to Froyo. Then she smoked me in the benchmarks.... This wait is painful!
Ok. Done whining now.
I tried to port the Froyo rom for the desire over, using the newb kitchen, it just caused a boot loop. I did a logcat and it seemed like it couldn't create any folders in the /data partition for some reason. Thank goodness for nandroid.
I guess that's why I'm a Network Engineer and a 39yr old college student, instead of a developer.

personally i went from a moto to an incredible (back when the inc first came out) and even though I had my moto at 1.2ghz, the inc felt way smoother.

Dude! I gave her the kernel to put it back at its native speed of 800MHz (didn't want it getting hot on her) and that thing was fluent. The JIT compiler is UNREAL!! Have you seen the video where the Nexus smokes the Evo and Droid X, because it was running Froyo? That, and this [email protected] coffee, is why I'm so antsy about it!
I bought an Eris with the promise that I it would be updated to 2.1 from 1.5 within two weeks. Needless to say, I did not get the update for five months. So, I'm not holding my breath for Froyo to land on our phones anytime soon. Even when HTC completes the build for our phone, Verizon will take forever hacking it up so it works the way they want. For instance, I'm really sure they will leave that tethering option intact for us to use for free.
I wish I knew enough to compile it from source for us. I've compiled my own linux kernels before, but its easy to compile them for the machine you're working on. Compiling for HTC proprietary hardware is out of my league.
*sigh* I'll just have to be patient.

oh my god, a froyo thread with a REAL information and not total speculation! will pigs fly next!?
pigs have flown i has seen them.
Don't look up though, they'll poop on your head.
So itll take another month and then we might get it? So we are looking at another full month before it even begins in the US? Thats interesting. Im curious as to what is so different between the UK/US versions that they need a whole month more to get it ready....if this hardware wasnt so awesome i might be tired enough of the update game to dust off my nexua. Hell by the time the vibrant gets froyo my nexus may very well have gingerbread and then ebay will he my vibrants new home. Its starting to look as though all the samsung android customers were right all along to warn against getting a samsung device....when I had my g1, mt3g, and nexus, all through those I recall reading so much about how bad Samsung is about updates. But their phones blew so it didn't really resonate with me. But my wife got a vibrant and I was happy to get the free one that came with it because the hardware is definitely a step above my n1, the vibrants camera is as good as advertised.
But I wonder how many galaxy s owners had previously owned Samsung phones. Because Samsung owners are always complaining (rightfully so) about all the delays, and here I join them. So even though the galaxy s is selling out of its mind, Samsung is still dragging its feet on updates. I for one wont buy another Samsung unless its so far ahead of the game that I can't get a comparable HTC. So even though they are breaking sales records, I wonder what samsungs repeat business statistics look like. Because there are only so many people left for Samsung to alienate, these sales figures might really be misleading regarding potential if. Afterall froyo isnt a maintenance update we are waiting for spped, adobe flash and more, its a serious update and by the looks of it, if and when we do get it, gingerbread will just he released. I am uncomfortable with a phone that is an entire update period behind, makes me kinda anxious. I think with all the competition, delaying updates can really hurt a company's reputation. Aside from some glaring design negligence (camera flash, no trackball/pad, volume buttons directly opposite power button(counterintuitve/awkward to press one without pressing the other), and no extra mic for background noise, this phone is an absolute beast, with tweaks it could be the most powerful hardware until the next galaxy s phone, i love having all this power. But remaining so far behind the software will really start becoming noticeable even to the novice, as features are advertised for newer software on newer devices and people wonder why they don't have the features even though they ostensibly have the software...
OK yea so I just ranted and wasted several valuabke minutes of your life. In turn I hope you will all feel free to waste my time on this forum any time you'd like to ; )

What sucks is that Gingerbread, yet rumored is supposed to launch this month yet. It's sad that we don't have Froyo yet and yet there's talk of Gingerbread launching. The "Nexus 2" was the only phone as of yet to come with Gingerbread though isn't it? (might be others..) Still sucks we are waiting for 2.2 yet the MT2G has froyo and the Droid Series does.
The rumored date for Gingerbread is Nov15, maybe we will get 2.3 instead of 2.2 =D Wishful thinking.

The fact that a Samsung phone is getting Gingerbread first makes me a LOT less worried about getting it on our Vibrants soon. It should be much easier to port.
So the wait for FROYO has taken a while. I expect the wait for Gingerbread to be a lot shorter.
And everyone that's so frustrated with not having FroYo is frustrated...why? I assume all of you are running totally stock phones without any kind of modifications whatsoever?

I'm running stock with root and removed the bloatware.
I'm more frustrated at the fact at how much time it's taken to push the update. Samsung promised we would get 2.2, didn't say when, but did say we would get it. Yet we are going on 4 months now and "possbily" getting it Nov-Dec?
I love the phone, but the JI6 destroyed the battery life, that's my only problems. GPS is okay, still needs fixes but hopefully that will come.
I just want Samsung to support the damn device and not screw us. Watch, the UK Galaxy S will get Froyo and when time comes for us to "have it" they'll pull the switch-a-roo and say "Oops, it doesn't work so you won't get the 2.2".
For a phone that sold millions its pretty ****ty of Samsung to not be updating their **** fast enough.

I just want Samsung to support the damn device and not screw us. Watch, the UK Galaxy S will get Froyo and when time comes for us to "have it" they'll pull the switch-a-roo and say "Oops, it doesn't work so you won't get the 2.2".

If JI6 "destroyed your battery life," just flash the JI2 modem.
according to Samsung...we will have froyo by the end of the year. I follow Galaxyssupport on twitter. That account is official tech support account for our phones and I asked yesterday about the updates. They stated that we would have our updates by the end of the year

If Froyo isn't made available before the rumored Nexus Two I'm selling off my Vibrant and getting it! I want the improved bluetooth support, JIT, arabic support, improved battery life, etc now!

Jumped the samsung ship

After receiving the fascinate on release day, I, along with all of you have been waiting patiently (ahem) for the Froyo drop. After watching these forums and trying to learn all I could, I tried every combination that has been modded or developed here to help satisfy the need for something better than stock. I wanted to thank all of you who have been working on different things to help make this phone better in the absence of OEM support. A lot of the things delivered did make the phone better, but I always kept having to load another work around to do something I was used to doing on my old droid 2. Today, after playing with a Droid X, I decided to go ahead and dump the fascinate in favor of the X. Perhaps a mistake, but for now, I don't think so....my empty anticipation has dissipated until I start wanting gingerbread on the X. From all of my hours of watching, reading and learning from you all, it seems like the support is just there from Moto and I've never felt that from Samsung. If things work out like they normally do for me, you should be getting Froyo tomorrow thanks to me getting rid of mine. This is my first post in XDA, as I usually spend my time searching and reading to learn from the experts and I wanted to take the chance to say thank you before I start spending my time in the droid threads.
paid full price for a dx??
Okay?
It'll probably be out soon you know.. lots of Galaxy S phones are getting one way or another now. Were bound to get an official release soon. Good luck with the DX.
As for paying full price.. I paid retail for my Fascinate. I had an OG Droid prior. I plan on purchasing all my phones straight up from here on out. Screw contracts..

Hate to see you go. But thanks for the good wishes.

I played with both the Fascinate and the Incredible while at best buy. The Fascinate just felt like a better phone to me when using both. I'm happy with my purchase. The Incredible is a great phone though, great dev community. Enjoy your phone!
The Incredible is a fantastic phone, with one fatal flaw: its absolutely terrible GPU. I had one after owning the Droid 1, right before the Fascinate came out, and while it was tempting to switch to the Fascinate in general once they announced its release date was inside my 30-day return period (better hardware specs all-around), the graphics performance was what absolutely cinched it.
I remember trying to run on the Incredible... I think it was Asphalt 5 (though this goes for plenty of other 3D-intensive games I can't specifically remember) and it was like playing a slideshow most of the time.
Meanwhile, the Droid 1, despite its almost half-speed CPU compared to the Incredible, was able to smoothly run any game I threw at it.
not me.
Not me,
I got the Fascinate for it's hardware....
When we do get Froyo, that will just add to it's goodness!!!

Same here, the incredible was an option, but it is basically a redone droid eris. While decently powerful the fascinate was the better choice, even with 2.1.

I totally respect your decision, but I imagine it will be one you regret. I think people forget that we have only been waiting for Froyo a little more than three months. The droid x waited this long also. Other phones have waited much longer for promised updates.
Btw: As someone already pointed out, you call a locked bootloader better support?

I second this. I got my Fascinate from Craigslist and will never again buy a phone on contract.
As far as Froyo, if the update is half-assed (Droid Eris style), I'll be installing a nice clean Froyo rom the friendly neighborhood developers again.
The Froyo upgrade for the Droid 1 was actually pretty amazing performance-wise, but that's neither here nor there.
And the Droid X took a bit over two months to get Froyo. We've already been waiting three and a half months.
So while the Fascinate is a great phone as-is, from an objective point of view, the upgrade wait is unjustified and I feel buyers have every right to be disappointed -- especially when the manufacturer just launched a phone running 2.3.
I think the incredible is just a tad more than a re done fascinate. That's a little bit of a understatement. The dev community is flying on that phone.
Edit: flacyn. You are exactly right. I will agree locked bootloader doesn't mean no support. Just no support from modders. And launching a gingerbread phone while your flagship line sits on eclair is dissapointing.

Ill give u $50 4 ur fascinate since u dont want it.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I'll go as high as $51 because it doesn't have froyo.
good day.
me personally i dont plan on playing many games on this things other than like angry birds.. so the only hardware thats appealing is the screen...
I meant to say the incredible is a tad bit more than a re done Eris. Lol my bad.
