Is this the first time you will sync your unit with your PC or you'd been syncing with your PC before and just have this problem now?
....from the first time i brought it.... until now...
any relation with my rom 1.40.721.3 ???
Do you get an error? is it connecting at all?
currently i use it as a modem for my pc. no problem at all except using activesync 4.5
Have you tried re-installing the ActiveSync using the provided StartUp disc ?
i already done that. but i download it from microsoft.com.
You could try to update the device drivers in XP
(Control Panel --> Device Manager --> Portable Devices --> Touch 3G T3232 --> right mouse click --> update drivers --> let it search automatically)
there is no "Portable Devices" in my xp Device Manager...
if you use the device as a modem you can't use active sync as well. I have noticed a handy little feature on this phone that when i plug it into a pc it gives me an option on the phone to use the device as active sync, mass storage or modem.
I would sugest that this is your problem, there is an option to always use the option you selected so if you chose alsways use as modem then you will never get an active sync go to settings, connections then usb to pc and see what you have got selected, i have the option ticked to always ask me.
Tom
i know that option, because i can read & write my storage. when i use it as a modem, at same time, i cannot access the storage.
right now, i copy cab file to storage in order to install the program...
With the main PC all works as it is suposted (Vista). The laptop also Vista does not recognize the X1 to make a partnership. The X1 is connected as visible in explorer. What can be done that a partnership can be setup (the second one) Please advise, and thanks for any assistance.
(almost) the same problem
Hello,
I'm having almost the same problem.
Last friday I flashed my ROM from T-mobile Dutch branded to unbranded SonyEricsson R2A Dutch ROM. After that I set up a partnership with a laptop, no problem.
But now I can't set up any partnership with WMDC anymore on my Vista Ultimate SP1 computer. I keep getting a warning 'problem with connection, please reconnect your device and try again'.
I tried everything (like hard reset, reinstalling WMDC, checking Windows services needed for sync etc...).
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Same problem here!
Yesterday I updated ROM to R2.... and at first i have seen no problems!! But then i noticed that i can't connect my X1 to my notebook (Vista OS)!!
I checked the configurations, they were ok on X1! Windows Mobile Device Center won't recognize the device.... and I'm !
I and many others, would appreciate some little help with this!!!
Thank you!!!
((ooo, i tried reinstalling WMDC, but I had no positive results!!))
Goto Settings > Connections > USB to PC and uncheck Enable faster data synchronization
My iPAQ 612 is not recognized on computer
Anyone can help please.... !!
I am using iPAQ612 with somehow I can connect iPAQ612 with any computer with the ActiveSync. It was working smoothly and I haven't connect with ActiveSync for longtime. Couple days ago I was trying to upgrade new ROM and connect with the ActiveSync I found this problem.
I have tried many ways of solving this issue but still not make it solved.
These are what I have tried.
1. I have tried to reinstall ActiveSync and install New ActiveSync4.5
2. I have tried to install new windowsxp on new harddisk and install activeSync4.5
3. I have checked on Setting System "USB to PC" both checked and unchecked
4 I have tried to connect with VISTA and install Windows Mobile Device Center
5. I have tried to unchecked Power / USB Charging
All above I tried T_T still unsolved my problem
Any suggestion can help I'm very welcome.... and thanks in advance.
PS. Can anyone Dump original ROM WM6.0 for me I'm thinking to take iPAQ612 to HP Center but I have to change my rom to original version
otherwise the warranty will cancel.

Hi,
What ROM are you using now ? Normally, if you install AS 4.5, it will wait for a PPC to connect and then make a new profile etc. Unless something went wrong with your ROM-update.
For the latest ROM from HP, look here
Dirk
try using another usb-cable
Connecting my device to my windows 7 pc does jack ****. Every time it tries to install some 'Generic Driver Serial', which then fails, and WMDC doesn't connect. I don't know why. Similarly, on the device activesync there is no option to 'sync', just bull**** about making sure i have synchronization software. WMDC seems to be a large step BACK from activesync.
You could try to change the "Enable advanced network functions"-setting in Start -> Settings -> System -> USB to PC.
I had the same problem and this helped.

Automatic updates needs to download an "optional" update for HTC devices... Connect Hermes and do an update... Seems to be a mongrel to do but works fine once its installed...
i had that same error on my cousins hermes. what i did i went to device manager and updated the driver and it worked
now all i gotta do is find a way to get internet sharing to work
Installed BsBTweaks on my HTC HD2, but now ActiveSync won't connect to my phone. PC O/S is Win XP SP2. I'm running WinMo 6.5 and have the latest ROM for the device from my provider, version 3.14.531.1. I get the message: "Critical communication services have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device, and then connect again." I haven't yet made any changes to the device using BsBTweaks, I only installed it. Have tried rebooting the phone to no avail. I have to use Disk Drive mode to get at the pictures on my SD card. Is there a way to get ActiveSync working again? I'd probably donate to the developers if this problem could get corrected and I can reasonably figure to keep and use BsBTweaks. Thanks.

Restarted the PC - worked like a charm. Thanks a million. I can breathe again.
...And I just made a modest donation. Thanks very much.
Troubleshooting Sync Connection with Your Computer
You can often solve any temporary sync connection problems by disconnecting your phone from the sync cable, waiting a few seconds, and then reconnecting it. However, sometimes you may experience persistent problems related to your network connection (for example, your Internet connection). You may be unable to sync your phone while there is an active network connection on your computer, or the network connection may be cut when you connect your phone to your computer. If this happens, you can try switching to a serial USB connection for your phone:
1. On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab.
2. Tap Menu > All Settings > Connections > USB to PC.
3. Clear the Enable faster data synchronization check box.
4. Tap Done.
