froyo 2.2 black screen - experienced by most - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Froyo 2.2
After putting the phone in stand-by by pressing the "end" key, the phone wakes up fine within 1 minute, 2 minutes or even within 5 minutes.
However, if the phone is left for about 10 minutes or longer, the phone resumes back with the "black screen" or "dead black screen" - as referred to in many threads all across.
Solution found:
Pulling the battery out and restarting the phone resolves the issue.
This solution is quite troublesome and long process to go through.
Any advice?

Can you explain how I update the radio to this one and where I can find it? Sorry for noob questions. Someone upgraded this phone to froyo 2.2 not me.

yes please, help in regards to upgrading the radio would definitely be appreciated!

It seems like I found the solution to my problem. I had to remove the dual boot application by JMZ in order to resolve the "dead black screen" or "screen of death" issue.
I hate to not have dual boot capability, however, would upgrading the radio resolve the issue with continuous use of JMZ?

It did not fix it for me - I went through 7 battery-outs / reboots and then booting into Android - every single time (7 times) I got Screen of death... I deleted the whole thing all together and will test out V2 of FroyoStone Series ...
Forgot to mention my SODs occurred on FroyoStone Series V1...
Quite interesting enough, my V1 FroyoStone worked for about 10-14 days easily without a single SOD (!!???!!) - go figure.

three things to try when you have a black / blank unlock screen / sod :
1) You know where the unlock swipe is. Just swipe with your finger on the black screen and screen turns on. (even if you can't see it)
2) Try waking up the phone by yes/send/call button instead of no/end/hangup button.
3) enable menu button unlock from cyanogen mode (if you have it) and unlock with the menu button.
Please provide feedback if any of this works for you in the long term.

I loaded the JMZ dual boot application and the SOD appeared again. I tried doing what you suggested but it didn't work either. Uninstalling the JMZ dual application resolved the issue and the HD2 works like a charm with Froyo2.2 by Darkstone.

I'll share my experiences:
The SODs have been my main problem with the builds. Everything else works just fine. I have also formatted and re-formatted the sd card and so on... nothing helps.
I tried Finger Lock screen from the market... after installing it I have not had a single SOD or reboot during charging. If I disable it, it is just a matter of time when the next SOD will happen.
And another good thing: it never gets stuck waiting after button press like the regular one, instant response.
But god I hate that lock screen... hope to find some other that makes my phone work like this one.
I have mentioned this in another thread but hopefully someone capable of understanding what is the difference between these screens can also figure out how to fix it .

.BetaBoy: My HD2 is setup pretty much in the same way as yours (in your sig) however I am running 2.11 radio and get the "blackness," as I call it often. I am updating my radio to match your's from your sig and hope it works. If it doesn't, any other suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

HD2 Bug: No Standby mode, screen always on

Hello
My HD2 Worked well for a long time, but now everytime I press the "sleep" key it turns off for half a second then turns back on and proudly displays the lockscreen without me pressing anything. There is no way to turn the screen off and go in standby mode anymore.
Obviously the battery drains so much faster from not being able to have the screen off and this silly problem actually makes the phone unusable
I flashed a few roms using HardSPL and now HSPL2. I'm currently running Artemis 11.0, the problem appeared may days after flashing while using Artemis ROM 9.0. A hard reset seemed to fix it but the problem reappeared. Today flashing 11.0 only solved the problem at first boot.
Anyone had that before? Not sure if it's software/rom related or not anymore. HELP
As far as Ive seen, its only you an me who have had this problem so far.
Honestly, Im relieved to see someone else with this problem.
I had exactly as you described, but using Axlor roms.
It worked fine for 1/2months, then all of a suddon the screen backlight wouldnt go off, but a reset fixed it.
But it got worse and worse.
Now nothing will work...
Ive taken everything back to stock, and i mean EVERYTHING! Not a single app installed.
And I still have this problem. I've tried it all.
I think its a warrenty job....
EDIT:
I also noticed the backlight will go off fine when the phone is charging, is that the same for you?
I just sent the phone off to Tmob today, to see if they can fix/replace it.
I'll keep you informed.
Same problem. Was running fine on stock ROM 1.66 then backlight did not dim and would not go into standby. Put into standby, screen goes off then straight back on to the lock screen. Since then have had other problems at boot, sometimes it locks on HTC white screen needing battery removal, sometimes launches straight into Navipanel and will not exit, HTC sense homescreen sometimes launches in landscape and will not go into normal portrait mode. Reflashed with different ROM's same symptoms persist so have returned to Vodafone UK under warranty, fingers crossed.
i've had this on early versions of the rom i use, the chef fixed it, making me think its the software, not your phone.
I experienced this issue when I minimised a game called virtual pool. Closing it in task manager would then allow me to permanently make the phone sleep.

I too have had the navi panel problem.
Im praying they fix mine under warrenty
Yes the problem is exactly what you describe, hard reset and flashing to a stock rom doesn t fix it with no programm running in the background
Navipanel seems to be on randomly sometimes so can I guess it could be related.
I found a fix, after starting the phone, plugging and unplugging the usb cable to the phone WHILE THE SCREEN IS ON fixes it but only until the next restart
Considering sending it for warranty now.
Thanks for replies! If anybody knows more let us know
Update re standby problem
Got my phone back from Vodafone UK today. Was advised software corrupted and that they had reflashed and it had been fully tested and was now working fine.
On power up (even without SD card or SIM) it had exactly the same fault as before, when put into sleep mode the screen comes back on after about 1 second.
I tried the plug in and remove USB lead fix and this also works for me until the next restart so it would seem that this must be a hardware problem.

Thanks for this workaround. Now with the urgency gone hopefully somebody finds a lasting solution without the need of sending it in..
I have same problem guys after 4 months using. ...and my HD2 is unusable with no standby. I mean battery gets weak during 2-3 hours. Whats your guess guys is it software problem. Cause Im afraid of this is hardware prob because after reset goes my device in wrong state.
Help!
Sadly I'm running into this same error with my t-mobile hd2....getting serious power drain...can anyone confirm if the task 29 helped at all? Mine won't stay off for more than 30 seconds.
** Found out the google easy sms beta app I was running had a service which was causing the app to come out of standby...uninstalling this app cured the problem.
For me, it was a sd slot problem. When i removed the sd card, phone always waked up after 0.5 seconds, and card was detected as bad.
Now the SD slot was changed (under guarranty) and it work fine, no wake up if sd slot is empty.
Any update on this? My HD2 starting doing this today as well
And I have no usb cable at work to 'trick' it. The only option is to pull the battery which I don't want to do. This is ridiculous. Am I going to have to hard-reset the damn thing to fix it?
FYI I didn't do *ANYTHING* to my phone in a couple of weeks (no new apps, etc.) and it started doing this out of the blue.
You hit the red 'end call' button and it goes black..then comes right back on.
The odd thing is it *thinks* its plugged in because the only screen setting I can get it to acknoweldge is the 'backlight level when charging'. So somehow my phone thinks its plugged in even though my only usb cable is back home.
Grrr. No registry tweaks or temp files I can delete to reset this behavior?

Froyostone goes blank?!

Hey i'm running kumar's premium rom and installed froyostone without sense yesterday, was running great for about a day, now if i leave my phone idle for a while and come back to it i get a blank dark gray screen instead of the unlock screen and have to reboot. is this a common issue or is it just me?
screen stays blank
hello!
got the same problem (with several android versions): sometimes my phone does not wake up e.g. when receiving a sms or a phonecall. Then I do not see who is calling me. takes several attempts to get the display do its normal work. up to know I did not find a reason/solution. :-(

It is related to the g-sensor being on ,aka auto rotate screen, this may make your phone unable to go on from sleep, just try to press the unlock button a few times and it should wake-up . Sometimes the build have some issues, like HyperDroid, If you left it on Idle for long time it will get warm and you have to remove batt to boot again.
Edit ::
Yes it is a common issue, avoid it by using DesireZ/HD builds ( no camera)
I only had these problems with DarkStone builds. All others seem to work fine. His build quality has been in the crapper, lately.

G-Sensor and call problems

Well first of all I love Android, but I have some problems. The first problem I have is the G-Sensor, it used to work, but suddenly it stopped working properly. Now when I want to rotate the screen I have to hold it the way I want it to turn for 20 seconds, is there a solution to this problem?
Now my second and most important problem is calling. I have multiple problems with it. One of them is when I'm being called while the phone is in lockscreen I try answering it but I have to wait ten seconds before it actually answers, mostly the caller is already connected to my voicemail. My second problem is the End Call button when is press it, it says ended but I also have to wait ten seconds before it actually ends the call. Does anyone have the solution to these problems?
For further information, I use Froyostone 3.2. And sorry for my poor English.
Could anyone please help me, sorry for the bump?
Also I notice that my hardware buttons light up randomly.
I also have the same problem. Well at least with the g sensor. Running android 2.2 the problem with my g senor is whenever I flip messages they will not flip back. (along with anything else that does flip) I've done the re-calibration on the phone and this is what happens.. x axis is fine y axis either stays all the way up or goes all the way down. When I start the calibration the y and x axis both go to the middle but after when calibration is done the y axis goes right back up or right back down.
Thanks in advance if any one can help.
The same thing happens to me when I'm trying to calibrate it. Also have you tried holding your device for 10-20 seconds the way you want to turn it? This solves the problem for me, but I would like it to happen a little faster.
I calibrated the G-sensor when I first put on Android, bad mistake, the Bubble just stayed at the top and nothing rotated properly. The Sensor worked fine in WinMo so I guessed I'd screwed it up.
Since read somewhere on here that you shouldn't Calibrate it in Android.
Had to reinstall Android fresh to get it to work again, but its been working fine since.
Was on froyostone 3.1, when I reinstated upgraded to 3.2, all is great

Okay that could be the solution. Do you also know if I need to put a new data image on it. I would like to keep my old one, but I thinks the problem lies there or doesn't it?
You might be able to calibrate your G-sensor in Android. Click the calibrate button and place your phone screen down on a flat surface. For some reason, calibrating only seems to be working when you face your phone screen down. It did the trick for me, fixed the offset and it's working just fine now.

I tried changing the data image from 3.1 to 3.2 but the g-sensor was the same, i just used Titanium Pro to backup the data i wanted to keep and reinstalled.
Try the Phone on its screen re-calibrate as suggested, ive read that may work as Roeltjuh suggested, but that was after i had reinstalled
That seem to do the trick, thank you!
Does anyone have the solution to my other problems? Also I've noticed a new problem, sometimes my WiFi won't turn on till I reboot. In the settings menu it says shutting down WiFi. But its already been shut down, and because of the loading it takes to shut down wifi, I can't turn it back on and my data connection says that it will be turned on when my WiFi is shut down. So I always have to reboot.
Sorry for all the questions, but I believe some of them can be fixed and they're too annoying to ignore. And again sorry for my poor English.

[Q] Serious Touchscreen Lag Issue [UPDATED]

First of all, sorry if this thread is out of place, but I'm not sure where else to turn.
My HD2 worked terrifically with FroyoStone 3.2, Hastarin 7.6 up until last Wednesday (5 days) ago. Then I started to experience, and have not been able to fix, serious TS lag issues.
Symptoms: I hit the unlock button, swipe to unlock, and the touchscreen will be responsive if I KEEP using it...if I pause for up to 3 seconds, the screen is no longer responsive. I have to relock the phone, unlock, and then swipe again to get it to work.
The touchscreen works perfectly fine in Windows Mobile 6.5. (Energy 2361X)
Attempts to fix: I've formatted the SD Card inbetween trying all of the following items-
1) Switch to MDJ ROM with MDJ kernel
2) Switch to Bluetopia ROM (0.5, 0.6 & 0.6.1) with Hastarin 8.0 OR 8.1
3) Switch back to FroyoStone 3.2 with kernel that comes with it
4) Update Radio ROM
5) Update to new Energy WinMo ROM -- after running Task 29 first.
Today, I purchased a new SD Card, loaded it with a clean install of Android, still have issues.
Also tried:
1) Turning off all LED notifications
2) Disabling Auto brightness in WinMo and Android
3) Disabled Screen Auto-Rotate
Honestly, I'm all out of ideas, and I hope someone in the community has a way to help out. I find it so odd that the touchscreen works great right after a "wake-up" as long as I keep it constantly stimulated...then fails to respond if I let it sit for more than three seconds. Is this a polling issue?
All ideas are appreciated. Thank you
UPDATE:
Followed another thread that suggests using the exact same WinMo ROM as the Builder -- matched my ROM with cmylxgo's WinMo ROM (author of Bluetopia) after another Task 29...no fix.
More Information
UPDATE 2:
Also tried 32K clusters and 64K clusters when formatting the card. Problem exists with either size.
There are G-Scripts to disable the G-Sensor and then re-enable it without rebooting.
If you want to jump to the extreme and want to remove all the sensors entirely.
Code:
su
rm -rf /system/lib/hw/*.sensors.so
Terminal
Thanks for your quick reply.
Unfortunately, I'm not the best with working with Linux/Terminal commands -- I tried typing in your code, and it returned that there was no such file/folder as -rf, and then I removed that section, and it said that it could not find the system/...
So obviously, there's something I'm missing, or an error in the syntax, that I cannot debug.
Any help is appreciated.
Are you having any data freezes or are you on an area with poor to no signal? I get really bad system lag when I loose signal while my phone is trying to download. Ppp will freeze and the phone will be unresponsive till reboot. Only way I avoid this is to turn off data if I got into a building I know I will loose connection in.

Updates
Thank you for your reply --
I checked into the disconnects being an issue by enabling Airplane Mode and seeing if I still had the same results, and unfortunately I do. I tried by disabling the Wifi and Mobile network separately, and still same issues.
But, here's an update on the issues:
Installed TYTUNG's NexusHD2-FRG83 V1.6, and this thing is very, very lightweight. Great battery life, great data (went to sleep, woke up, and not only was my phone still on...but I didn't have to reset data to check email...nice). The issues still remain. These are the newest things I've tried:
1) Remove Boxwave screen protector
2) Run from Airplane Mode.
I did however notice something really, really important: when the screen freezes, if I simulate a multi-touch gesture (pinch to zoom, etc), sometimes it wakes up! This is not a guaranteed thing (like 60%), but definitely something to work with.
Also, I noticed that one time that the touchscreen stopped responding, I tried the multitouch, no help...but I stayed on it. Multitouch tapped like crazy for a solid 6 seconds...then tried to shut the screen off -- and that button didn't respond. It was as if I saturated some bus of some sort that it had to clear out before it could finally shut the screen off.
Finally, I've noticed that the screen just needs to shut off for the touchscreen to unfreeze -- not go into a full lock situation. So, if the screen goes black, and I hit the lock key immediately, it'll unfreeze the TS.
Thanks to everyone who is trying to think of an idea!
i seem to be having the same issues as you right after i wake the phone up to unlock it. locking the phone is a habit for me to try and save as much battery as possible and also to not press any buttons while in my pocket.
im running a cyanogen rom and i changed the setting to allow me to unlock the phone by pressing the center windows key. i noticed that when the phone will not allow me to unlock it i can press the menu key and unlock it but i cannot use the touchscreen at all until i relock and unlock.
sometimes i have to do this a few times before the touchscreen comes back. i was thinking it could be my sd card but this started to happen today. i have been using android on my hd2 daily for the past 12 days without any problems. its weird that it started all of a sudden.
so it seems we still dont have a fix for the touchscreen freeze yet, right ?
Same problem here
Hi, I am experiencing the same problem.
Tried few versions of Android, The same problem repeated itself.
So I had to return to WM6.5 - there it works good. Only I have to reset the phone twice a day :-(
Hope someone will find brilliant solution for the sad problem that prevents using Android...

[Q] Screen not coming out of sleep when pressing button

I'm having temporary screen freezes when I want to take out my HTC HD2 with tytung's ICS version. When I press the buttonss they light up but the screen stays black. I can still receive phone calls and connect it to a PC, where the PC recognizes the phone. Sometimes after 20-30 minutes the wakes up like normal when I press a button.
Does anyone know the cause of this and is there a solution?
Thanks in advance.
Has your screen been unresponsive lately ?
read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993787
I think your end button .. is dying?
It is not just the end button. None of the buttons give a response although they light up when I press them. Sometimes after 10 minutes or half an hour the phone is responding again.

Does this happen on every ROM? Also try flashing another kernel. It may be driver or hardware related.
It also happened with the previous ROM from Tytung. I disabled wifi for 2 days now and the problem has not occured yet. Normally it occured every day. Can it have something to do with WIFI?
i have had the same issue, and for me the only solution was to flash a new rom. if you're going to do that: try miui, i think it is very good(as soon as you've fixed all the problems with it it works perfect)
Did you try a clean install with task 29 before?
I only did the task29 the first time I started flashing a rom. After that I only changed the partition size once and updated from the zip file. What will another task29 do?
I have wifi disabled now for 4 days and haven't had the problem again. It seems that other people also have this issue, but is there no solution?
