[Q] Imagio GPS lag using TomTom - Imagio General

I'm using TomTom 7 on my Imagio but I get a lag on the position. In more detail, I get a different (delayed) position from where I'm at when driving; let’s say it takes 10 seconds for the phone to catch up.
It's very noticeable since I use my old Cruise for comparing and when I run TomTom on both phones at the same time, the Imagio lags a lot. I have a CDMA / GSM version.
It seems that this problem has been reported before on the Diamond but so far I haven't found anything that really works regarding how to solve this on the Imagio.
Any help would be appreciated.
PS: I'll keep posting if I find anything that works.

So I've been using this settings:
1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\InputBufferSize = 512
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\OutputBufferSize = 512
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\RetryWaitonError = 1
4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\SleepOnNoData = 250
5. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOneDevice\PollInterval = 500 (or 1000)
6. Use COM4 (on TomTom) and set it to 57600
And also did this using Advanced config 3.2:
1. disable A-GPS
2. disable GPS logging
3. logfile name must be empty
4. old logfile name must be empty
5. maximum size of logfile must be 0
6. delete the files :
\windows\GPSLogFile.txt and \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
So far I can find satellites faster, but now TomTom not only lags but also gives an incorrect position.

Ok I manage to make a few tries with the settings mentioned above.
So far so good, Initial position inaccuracy is due (I think) to the faster satellite pick up, it seems that it gets lost for 4-5 minutes showing a displaced location until gives the correct one.
On the tries, I've disabled the HTC Sence (Touch FLO). This seems to free up resources so the phone can compensate the lag. But still exists some of it.
Now I'm using gyrator so I can watch the maps horizontally, it seems that it doesn't chew too many resources.
It will be nice if someone has a list of running programs that can be disabled in order to have more resources available.

Ok tests using Girator and turning on Sence (touch flo) worked Ok. There's a little lag, so is not 100% perfect but I settle for 98,5%.
I think this thing is SOLVED.

Getting TTN5 an BT GPS to work on k-jam?

There are only 2 com ports to use for outgoing in bt settings on k-jam com6 and com7. How do we go about getting the bt working for this?
regards
here are 3 key steps in making TomTom 5 work on an i-mate K-JAM with a Bluetooth GPS.
STEP 1 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
You do this by copying the CAB files from the CDROM (eg F:\PocketPC) to the K-JAM and launch one by one from there with the explorer of the K-JAM
.
You can install voices the same manner by copying the CAB files to the K-JAM (eg from F:\Voice on the CDROM)
STEP 2 : UPGRADE TO V5.1
http://www.htcclub.net/storage/ppcupd510.rar
Extract and copy the files to a folder on the K-JAM and install them from there.
STEP 3 : ACTIVATE THE GPS CONTROL PANEL
Fire up a registry editor (eg http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml )
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
Delete the DWORD marked "hide"
Add a DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec)
The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings.
STEP 4 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the OUTGOING port to 6.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM 6 (before we set it up at 0).
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 0.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.

Many tips are scattered around in different Forums.
Here is a COMPLETE overview of what to do.

REMAINING PROBLEM
TomTom will only connect to the BT GPS when the Phone is switched on.
If you want to use your integrated car phone and just use the JasJar as GPS, you need to switch the Phone antenna off on the JasJar and the Bluetooth radio on (for the GPS connection). This worked perfectly before with TT3 and my i-mate PDA2K but now I am forced to activate the phone radio on the JasJar meaning that I can not use my car phone anymore !
I think it is a TT problem as I am able to connect to the GPS with other software without the phone radio switched on.

ps took a couple of resets before the new gps icon would show in connections, also after editing the reg you must exit the program otherwise the changes arnt saved
thanks for that. I managed to get running on the jasjar, just the.k-jam that stumped me. aoane more quesrion though when you set your gps to 6 do you set your bt to com7?
thanks again
sorry, where are you talking about? in bt comports outgoing is set to (com6)
I have changed my orignal post to mach how it works on the K-JAM(so some people do not get confused  )
thanks, now you made my post after your altered original one :? look like i'm talking a load of rubbish!

My tt voice is not working.....
HELP
have you gone into the voice section of tomtom to see if there are any voices to select from and test?
there are no voices to test...but they are instaled
check my blog, all answers revealed, voices and bluetooth, etc.
www.beyondthetech.com/blogs/kjam
when you say :
Delete the DWORD marked "hide"
Add a DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec)
The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings.
First I don't see any KEY called HIDE ??
I do adda DWORD called GROUP under ...../GPS/ with value 2 (decimal)
I did 8 reset and I still don't see the GPS under settings/connection ???
how can I have it show ?
thanks
help please !!!
first of all make sure you do use the exit from the reg edit program you have used, otherwise changes are not saved.
then do as you already have, a soft reset.
on mine it a couple of resets for the new icon to appear.
good luck
yes I verify the change is made.
I already did 10 soft reset still don't see GPS icon ??
I din't have a hide to remove when I went into the registry,
if i now go into
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
ControlPanel
GPS Settings
i have
(Default) (value not set)
Group 0x2 (2)
and back in the real world in Settings i now have 8 icons, including one new one called GPS
perhaps instead of doing a soft reset, turn the kjam completely off and see if that helps
finally managed to get tomtom 5.1 working on the wizard.. phew
Now there's one thing regarding voices: tt only seems to recognize voices in the \tomtom\tomtom\ folder (in main memory). I'd like to put the voices on the storage card, but haven't found a way to get it to recognize additional voices there. creating a \voices dir on the sd card didn't work -- any other tweaks (main memory is kinda limited after all)?
hey guys, any of you having trouble with adding your maps?
My maps now say they need activating. It never said that before.
Cheers
Trying to follow this sionce I got it initally working and now failed
4. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 6 free. Select COM 6 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM (none)
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 6.
7. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.

basically - in TT5 v5.21 I dont have under option 4 - I dont have a com port of 6 under other Bluetooth GPS
Any ideas?

TT Nav 5 Port from XDA 2 to Wizard
I have an XDA 2 now with TomTom on. If I transfer the software across as above and then change my device code with TomTom should everything work (e.g. Traffic updates, etc.) ??
<Fingers crossed>
TIA Dave.

MS Voice Command causes keyboard selector to be sloooooow

I finally figured out that MS Voice Command is the program that makes the keyboard input box be slow to appear. It was taking like 6 seconds to bring up the list to choose another input method. On my Jamin, I'm 100% sure that MS Voice is to blame. After uninstalling it the delay disappeared. This is a real drag since I used MS Voice all the time for making calls. I wonder if the K-jam has the same problem? Anyone have a work around for this problem?
Well spotted That's always the first step on the way to a solution. I also depend heavily on this software so I hope a work-around's available.
Regards
Could this be the cause of the thumbpad (T9 pad) not coming up all the time, requiring a soft reset? I'm using WM2003SE btw.
I aslo stopped using MS voice command on my JAMin. I did a hard reset and did not install PocketZenPhone, Phone Alarm and MS command.
Now my JAMin runs awesome! I can change the keyboards instantly and I can even use full screen keyboards which never would work before.
I do miss voice command but I can live without it. In fact the built in voice dialer is not bad. I don't miss having to say the full name and then home or mobile or whatever. The less I have to talk to my phone the less crazy i feel. Plus it works better over bluetooth headsets.
MS Voicecommand & slowwww SIP
I encountered this prob about 4 months ago after upgrading my Xda2 to WM5.0. When I upgraded my device to the prophet, the exact same thing happened.
Here's my work-around:
1) Do a hard reset
2) Export the entire registry
3) Install MSVC
4) Import the registry saved in step 2
VOILA... now I have MSVC & a normal SIP change....
This is a great find. I've been trying to find out why my selector take 7 seconds to pull up. I thought it was keyboard skin or some other input program I installed. Didn't realize it was MSVC.
Now only if we can figure out which registry changes are causing this problem...

For those of you who don't have MSVC installed already, Step 1 is not necessary, i.e. no hard reset.
All you need to do is export the registry before installing MSVC, install MSVC and restore your registry.
I might have found something
I installed the trial of SKTools and was playing around with the "invalid registry entry" tool and deleted a few entries that were flagged. I remember one that had something to do with VC and started with a weird character "%a" or similar. Sorry that I can't remember better, but I did not realize right away that that fixed the problem, since I was only "cleaning up", but the keyboard selection is working well right now and that was the only thing I changed in the meantime that had anything to do with it. Hope that's the right direction.
Seems to be fine after the newest ROM update
I had the Slow keyboard with older ROM
Phone: JAMin
Some tweaks may solve the problem.
I have a Cingular 8125 with 200Mhz CPU (reportedly running at 180Mhz only).
I use Omapclock to speed up PocketSNES, but it doesn't speed up the keyboard selector at all.
Also tried the Registry trick, but restoring the original Registry after installing Voice Command clears everything, settings, program icon... ... and disable Voice Command.
So it's not a good solution.
Finally tried to tweak the Registry (for generally speeding up WM5).
It's worked so perfectly for me.
The Keyboard Selector menu pops up in 1 second or less, almost instantly.
Before tweaking, even without Voice Command installed, it takes 2 to 4 seconds.
Here are the steps:
---------------------------------------------------------------
I.
Increase cache: Noticable effect on WM5.01. Use any registry editor:
* Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
* Change 'limit' to 8192 up to 32768
* Close registry editor (Save)
* Soft reset
II.
Disable Animated Menu (I know, doesn't relate much with the KB selector problem, but it speeds up the whole system anyway)
Use Registry Editor:
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\GWE\Menu,
* Change "AniType" from default 6 to 0
III.
Use any add-on that close the programs for real, not just minimize it (SPB Pocket Plus, or PHM Free Utilities, whatever)
IV.
Increase SD card access rate:
Use Registry Editor:
* hklm\drivers\sdcard\clientdrivers\class\mmc_class
* hklm\drivers\sdcard\clientdrivers\class\SDMemory_c lass
Change both BlockTransferSize from 64 to 128 or 256
(I use 256. Don't know if it make the reading/writing process any unstable, but so far no problem for me ever. Plus I have backup, so why worry)
V.
Affects WM5.0 and can increase overall speed up to 20%
Use Registry Editor to change from default 0 to:
* [HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS] CacheSize = 4096 EnableCache = 1 * [HKLM\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt] ReplStoreCacheSize = 4096
SOFT RESET
(For me, I did everything before Resetting)
PHM registry Editor can be downloaded from http://www.phm.lu/products
Good luck.
If that does not solve your problem, please tell. Because then I know that I might accidentally did something else that made it work

Is there any update on how we can fix this besides importing/exporting the registry after install?
I followed chaintox's directions for speeding up the device, which did seem to speed up some of the menu drawing and a few other things that it should have, but it did not help the speed of the choosing a SIP at all. I've removed all third party SIPs, and also disabled the PhonePad SIP, and it's still very slow (around 15-30 seconds).
I'm not willing to do a hard reset right now... is there anyone that has the registry export from before and after installing Voice Command? That would let me see exactly which keys were created, so I could look at removing some one by one until I find what's causing the slowdown.
Thanks in advance.
I found out that the slow SIP selector bug has something related to AKU2.2 and up...
I reflashed back to the original dopod ROM with AKU 2.15 and my SIP selector is fast even with voicecommand installed.
I'm curious if AKU 3.3 has this bug and whether WM6 has this issue too? This was probably the primary reason for ditching the latest ROMs and sticking with the original.
Well, I installed Voice Command on an WM5.0 (no AKU) emulator image to get the registry diff, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Installing Voice Command also did not cause the SIP slowdown on the emulated PPC, so I tend to agree with everyone that it may be AKU2.2 specific. I'm curious to see the answer to mr_yellow's question about AKU3.3 or WM6... I may be willing to upgrade if it fixes this issue.
I just remembered that I did test AKU3.3 (I think i flashed AERGS's AKU3.3 ROM) and it did have the same laggy SIP selector bug/feature... so the only other option is WM6... Does anyone know if you the SIP selector is slow for WM6? This is for a G3 device (dopod818pro)...
Thanks,
doh!...
Hi all,
I have been noticing that my input selector is really slow so after much digging around I came upon this thread and Chaintox's instructions.
However I read his first instruction to increase cache and followed that with a soft reset and now my JAMin isnt completing the soft reset
It is just hanging at the SPB safe mode menu reboot screen.
Is there anything I can do?
please help! and contribute to the forgive-a-noob fund
Cheers

Wow, i forgot about this thread... I found a good workaround/solution. Not sure if it'll work on all devices. but it worked on my HTC Prophet.
Figured out the exact keys in the registry to import/export.
see this wiki page for more details

This can be done after you've installed VC.

Using multiple GPS apps simultaneously - A small investigation

Searched all forums for ( GSP , Comports, Multple, split comport, duplex )
I have no troubles using any GPS app on my Universal (MDA Pro)
However, using...... GPS gate (buyware)
....or the free GPS splitter that comes with
Microsoft Virtual Earth Mobile (freeware, GPS icon suddenly appears under settings-connections after install of Microsoft Virtual Earth Mobile,
....or app found at http://www.gpsmeter.com/ (browse to portsplitter)
i am still unable to successfully run two GPS apps at the same time.
Don't get me wrong, I DO succeed in getting two GPS apps READ the data.
Both apps will show connection , for instance TomTom together with my own app PocketReperion, but tried with Visualgpsce http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPSce/ and a lot of other apps too.
Symptoms : Even though successfull in setting up various comsplitters to send data to 1 virtual port, and have multiple GPS application accessing them, I am unable to get that situation stable.
So the concept on a lot if ISO layers has been proven, why the hell doesn't it work for longer that say a minute, 4 minutes, not at all, 10 seconds...
It seems that most comsplit apps are rather "reset" intensive (tested on clean device) and even when it does work for a while something will lockup and a reset is again necessary.
Does anybody use the blue GPS icon (free after install virtual earth mobile) to split ports and if so what is your setup ?
Does anybody use GPSGATE to split ports and if so what is your setup ?
Does anybody use the PortSplitter linked to above..to split ports and if so what is your setup ?
Please share your thought and expierences with me as I really really want to solve this issue. Be it for my "own" app, but also for all the other ones out there.
GPS port splitting multiple GPS apps on 1 receiver
Small BUMP : Doesn't anyone use portsplitting in whatever form, or am I really the UeBerGEEK here ?
It Works !!
IT WORKS !!!! BUT YOU HAVE TO CREATE TWO VIRTUAL PORTS - USE PORTSPLITTER !!!
All I had to do is download http://www.gpsmeter.com/ portsplitter as discussed in the other threads, HOWEVER......
Instead of what manuals seem to say, even from other softwarez like GPSGate, create TWO or more VIRTUAL ports in PORTSPLITTER!! Connect each GPS app to a DIFFERENT VIRTUAL PORT.
Also, when pairing and configuring your GPS, try taking a high Comport like 9. Go down one if no success.
Then when configuring PORTSPLITTER, don't be alarmed that your COMPORT isn't in the drop down list, MANUALLY enter "COMx" without the usual ":" where x stands for a number..the high real COM portnumber you configured when pairing/setting up.
You must use your keyboard or the stylus to manually enter the Comport if it is not in your dropdown list in PORTSPLITTER..
for speedreaders :
install PORTSPLITTER http://www.gpsmeter.com
use highest physical COMport available to pair your GPS
Define TWO virtual ports (instead of what seems to be written everywhere or am I really lame?)
Connect each Application to different virtual ports
My setup on a T-Mobile MDA Vario II (with Cingular ROM)
Physical Port 9
Virtual Ports in PORTSPLITTER 4,8
Hardware COMport in PORTSPLITTER (COM9 had to manually enter it, it was unavailable from drop down.... .... ...)
TomTom Navigator mapped to virtual COM8 (Didn't show up in TOMTOM until PORTSPLITTER running and connected to GPS.. ..)
Reperion *sweet favorite GPS app" mapped to Virtual COMPort 4 (Reperion eats all ports, no problems there....)
Please o please report...

Garmin - Various Questions

First, a little clarification. I found instructions on here to install to a bigger microSD card and followed them. =)
I installed two programs:
GarminMobileXTforPocketPCwithGPS10_41001wBeta.exe
and
GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42050w.exe
Anyway, what are these? When I try to go to Garmin's site, they have mobile 10, mobile 20, mobile XT, for laptops, for PDAs, etc. What the heck do I even have? How do I stay updated with the latest version (I figure someday they'll fix the time bug that mucks with system time if you don't get a satellite lock)?
Then some other, random stuff (for background, I have a 260W as well);
1. Will XT (or whatever version it is) take custom vehicles like the 260? I created a vehicles folder and put them in there--same procedure as 260--and nothing...
2. Where the heck are the "my locations"? I'd like to keep the 260 and XT somewhat sync'd. (just copy a .gpx file on the 260)
3. on the 260, I can tap the car, and then save that location as a favorite. How do I do that on XT?
4. On XT, I can't seem to modify "my locations". I want to delete garmin europe, but there's no 'edit' button like on the 260. Can't rename either.
5. I tried to load a location on with live.com and it claimed to have done it successfully, but it didn't show up in my locations. I have softstick software that makes my storage card appear as a thumb drive, and I was using that (as the 260 also appears as a thumb drive). Why doesn't that work?
All in all the interfaces are pretty similar, but I was hoping for them to be identical. For instance, when the 260 can't get a satellite lock, it has the option of a demo mode to pretend there is GPS signal--great for setting things up while still inside. aaaah well, I guess. This is my 'play GPS', so it isn't a huge deal.
Anyway, thanks.
bump.
Anybody?

Anyone use iGo8 or Oncourse 8 on their Titan?

I have tried both on my Sprint Mogul with dcd 3.26 and neither are working right. Both freeze up at the menu screen, whether simple or advanced, the next screen it locks.
I have 23.7M (or so) of free RAM after a soft reset. I've let it sit on that menu for 5 minutes straight, wondering if it were catching up. No good.
I have TomTom7, but I want something with text to speech support.
The first time you run Igo or Oncourse it goes thru your contact list and checks the address on all of them. If you have a very large contact list it could be causing it to act very slow. It only does this once, so after it finishes it won't do it again in the future.
You might also check your config file, I think it's called sys.txt, would have to search to verify, but it lists your com ports. If you have an invalid com port for your GPS it can lock up entirely. Find this file and change it to com 4 baud 4800 and then restart it, should work fine then.
Let me know if that doesn't work. I've started Igo with as little as 8mb free, it ran, tho not very well and crashed shortly afterwards, but with 23mb it should run very well. So I don't think it's a memory issue in your case.
BTC
groovy. I'll sys.txt it up and report back.
getting there.... trying different combinations of ... packages ... see what works and what doesnt.
Can you mix OnCourse with iGo?
As far as I know, OnCourse is just a licensed OEM of of Igo, I've heard that the maps, skins, themes, etc all work fine with both.
I personally haven't tried OnCourse because the word I heard was that it's a compressed .exe file which in turns requires more ram to uncompress and then run. There were several looking into uncompressing the exe file and running directly, but have not seen any confirmed threads that someone has it resolved.
BTC
yeah, im avoiding an actual install of oncourse... however, what I have, has some things in it that my igo doesnt have, as well as US poi's which my igo doesnt have. More experimenting tonight.
I too was having an issue with IGO8 not starting properly, I could enter the program but none of the icons would function.....well not really.....I would click settings and about 30 seconds later I would hear the click sound but IGO would stay at that screen and then about 1 minute later it would goto the settings screen.
After doing some research I did find that it was an issue that IGO had with
adding my contacts addresses(I'm guessing that this is a ram issue). Here is what I added to the sys.txt file to stop IGO from trying to add my contacts to its POI DB, disable_outlookpoi=1 needs to be added under [debug]. I'm pretty sure I found a sys.txt config on ppcgeeks in the vouge section.
I cannot get the TTS to work as it appears that our Titans don't have enough ram to allow all of the features of IGO to work.
I have installed DCD latest with a couple of programs installed i.e. MSVC, Oxios, DCD carrier cab(great work DCD, every rom he makes just keeps getting faster and allowing more ram to be utilized) at boot I have about 23-24mb available, when starting IGO and then minimizing IGO I have 1.3-1.4MB free ram. When trying to select the Susan TTS voice it immediately crashes with an out of memory error. I'm also using the full maps of North America, all the building files and the terrain file for USA as well. When I get a chance I'm going to try only my state and my states buildings and see if that frees up any additional ram for TTS.
Good luck
i have noticed that it wont run unless I prime the GPS, even with the [gps] code in the sys.txt

Click to collapse
I have found the same thing, I've attached a .zip file that someone created that will give you a shortcut for astroGPS to prime the GPS and also start IGO8. You must have astroGPS installed but it works like a treat.
anyone figure out how to setup tts with any tweaks or removing some default programs for more ram? I installed dcd latest rom with nothing else but igo8 and still get that out of memory :/ Also i have igo running with no terrain and in 2d mode with no luck
So is anyone able to get Text to Speech (TTS) works on Titan?
