Yesterday at IFA (biggest CE show in Europe) in Germany i asked the Dell rep about the official android 2.1 update for streaks; he assured me that we have to wait only 5 or 6 weeks.
Also got myself a streak and i'm loving it so far; the screen is great. The only problem is that i'm quite afraid of dropping it...
Should have asked him about the reported bugs in the O2 version of it, will they be sorting it out or not.
I have the unlocked European streak. It had 1.6 6267.
I installed the UK 4399 then upgraded to the official 2.1. All working fine. Does this not work on the US models?

I think it can be made to work on any model, @ the OP, you sure the Dell guy was talking about 2.1 and not 2.2?
upgraded US streak to 2.1 = NP
FYi - Was able to upgrade a US bought Streak to 2.1 with no problem. O2 screen bootup.
I think he was referring to the official Dell 2.1 update for unlocked streaks, not the O2 one.

I have been told by o2 customer service tonight that the hd2 software upgrade will be ready in a 2 weeks time from the o2 web site.
I have had some issues with htc sense not loading etc and some upgrades from htc web site cant be installed because of o2 vendor validation error.
Kinda a good news. Will be interesting to see what version of Sense and which ROM they have. I know it takes o2 an age but I've not had problems like many others...
Do you have the link to the o2 web page?
Hi, I am unable to post a link as a new member but google o2 uk to get there.
The main o2 website is www.o2.co.uk
From there click support the phone help and at the bottom is firmware information. O2 Support Page
I suspect the o2 update will become available from the main htc site. Here
they are very slow when it comes to software. remeber waiting ages with my old Nokia n80. i gave up in the end and flashed a generic product key and flashed standard nokia software. done the same with my hd2 hspl and custom ROM.
Good news!
Maybe it will be on download here: http://xda.o2.co.uk/software_updates.jsp
My wifes HD2 turned up from O2 on Monday. Completely unbranded and the serial number allowed me to download the 1.66 rom from the HTC site and upgrade it.
It also came with 1.48 whereas mine came with 1.43

Got mine just over a week ago and it came with 1.43 and locked so I cant update from HTC directly.
Thats what I get from getting an in store phone that was in stock, to waiting for one to get shipped over the phone...lol

yeah, mine too - I got it through tele-sales. And ordered it two days before price hike.
It seems to be luck of the draw!!!
Just put HSPL on and flash the generic 1.66
You can always go back to the stock O2 rom and bootloader if you need to.

I think the price hike is something to do with it.

done that on mine already but I would rather that I didn't have to. at least I can use my wifes.serial number to download new roms directly.
Well released an update to the Diamond last month for Orange, Vodafone, O2 etc, all on the HTC site as well. (downloaded that today so I can update my diamond that the misses uses - wonder if it will still be crappy blue...)

Yup same here, mine came last Wednesday (replacement for previously faulty one) and is unbranded running 1.48. Serial also works on HTC website for ROM updates.
Looks like im one of the lucky ones
When i ordered my replacement they said they were out of stock (two wednesdays ago) so it might be a fluke with the recent batch... but im not complaining
Hello there!
I do have the possibility to get a new dell streak (the seller only used it 7 weeks) for ~400 €. The seller has updated the Streak on Android 2.1, which is afaik only an unofficial android version for the streak.
The question is: Are there any disadvantages when buying a used streak with 2.1? Will it be possible to update to 2.2 as soon as it´s available? What about the warranty? Am I able to roll back on 1.6 before I send it back to DELL? Or isn´t there a warranty anymore (I don´t know if this differs from country to country...in this case it would be Germany)?
What would you guys recommend?
Thank you so much for reading
Not sure if you can get one but Amazon sell them for £399

Hey Sukicat!
Thank you very much for your hint, I really haven´t thought about buying the phone in the UK yet! But it would cost me ~100 Euros more when buying there...so i just want to check the "used" option for disadvantages first
Is it possible to perform a rollback from 2.1? Will this crash my warranty/is it already crashed?
You sure the warranty is transferable?
I'm pretty sure thru ebay you can get a Square Trade warranty with your purchase... which makes it a safe buy.

call dell
i would call dell with the sellers first and last name and verify that he / she has a warranty by using the service tag on the box. you can click on the link below
support(dot)dell(dot)com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/details?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn
Dell is more than willing to allow buyers to sell their devices while leaving the warranty in tact.
What range are you all getting?
Im sure on 1.6 I had better range then I do now. (2.2 stock/tweaked)
I barely get 20 metres.

Anyone provide some feedback for me?
Im starting to think my wifi is.... fubar.

yes..i have the same problem. Maybe it needs some tweaking..anyone?
I too have noticed the same problem, 2.1 seemed to have the best range I have experienced.

Anyone in dev reading this?
Is there a variable for wifi?

I thought wifi range was a hardware thing? I bought mum a samsung galaxy 5 (i5500) and the lack of signal is shocking but when I researched the general response was cheap phone means cheap hardware and to be expected? 2.1 on my dell is great, steves 1.1.1 was just as good too, I haven't noticed on other builds yet but will take note from now on
Hi All,
Just read that it seems the DVP will be available on Orange and Vodafone as they are accepting pre-orders for the same now... check this link

YIPPEE !!!!
Doesn't matter really, Dell can't even produce them for the US so other countries are certainly the least of their worries. I'd say the UK will have to wait for end of February to March before getting the DVP.

Good luck ever getting one though. Dell has already delayed the US launch to about 2 months after the WP7 launch and there's no guarantees this is the last delay either.
Hi everyone,
I have Desire HD with 2.3.3 and sense sense 2.1. The handset is by Virgin but i am using it in Pakistan. Just wanted to ask that since HTC is officially pushing the upgrade, would it be possible for me to get it by using Virgin bought set using in Pakistan on a a local cellular company?
