Do you loose root when you install new shipped rom? - Wildfire General

My question is the following? I rooted my phone so that i can install a wwe rom to unbrand it. Rhen using a goldcard, i installed the newest wwe rom, i.e. 1.25. I did it with RUU. Did i loose the root? Most importantly the recovery installed by unrevoked?
Thanks for your answers?

Yes you did loose everything you had before that.

thanks for the reply
Oh I see.
I guess in a way that is good, as people are having weird problems with rooted wildfires. I can wait till all is fixed.

Question about unroot

Hello. In case i'm interested on Unrooting the phone and installing the Original Rom wich came with my phone, in orther to update it (in case there is an interesting rom update) , do i have to do something special? Or can i run the exe update directly from the HTC site it'll unroot and restore everything as it was before with perfect SPL etc? Thanks
You shouldn't need to do anything else, just do what it says on the HTC website. I did it 2 times without any problems.

[Q] Legend ... rooting ... froyo ?!

Hi to all...
I've just unbranded and than updated my HTC Legend to Froyo following procedures that i've found in the forum...
My tasks have also included to downgraded it to 1.31 because impossible to succed with the "simple" one even if the bootloader version was 0.43.xxxx.
Btw, after have downgraded it I've run the OTA and installed 2.1 and then re-used the procedure to upload a froyo version...
What I'm asking now is : I'll have to refollow the entire procedure to root my phone? Need I use a specific rom to keep my Legend rooted? Are there No chances to root it without doing again all the steps?
cheers and thx
If you have rooted once, you should not be able to upgrade OTA...
What version of HBOOT do you currently have?
Hboot is 1.01.0000
After have downgraded to 1.31 I succeed to OTA to 2.01 (or 2.1, not sure about that) but than failed another OTA to 2.2
Then I've used the .exe found on the forum to update to froyo.

well then if you want to root, you'll have to do all that again, preferrably following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894465
Will try it
Thx for the support!

Should I update my DHD?

I just received an notification for my phone saying I have a system update available. Should I just ignore it, or it is save to do so? Since my phone is rooted and unlocked and I might perform an eng-off, radio and custom rom flash this weekend.
Please advice.

Oh yes, I forgot, branded dhd just get it now 2.2.1, I am on 2.2.1 already, just before christmas, and very lucky, no any problems.., but still 2.3 will be nice ...
I was wondering if its better to install a new kernel and radio first better I install a custom Rom. Or it doesn't really matter which order I do it in.
Thanks.

So I guess I don't need to get ENG-OFF unless I decide to use a different radio, or it is a better to do it anyway?

Don't really understand what your trying to say! I would recommend, as Kali himself does, flashing one of the newer radios as they all seem to improve battery life, the most recommended one is Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF although I am currently running Radio_12.28g.60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3
which seems fine to me.

You'll need ENG h-boot if something goes awry in the flashing as it allows you to issue fastboot commands which can save a potentially bricked phone, plus it is the only way you can currently flash the new radio

thanks for your advice
would the efficiency of the radio varies from phone to phone or network to network?
since I am doing this whole process slate clean, which order would u recommend I install them in? roms, radio, kernel?
well, i'd definately do the rom last, as you would probably have to reinstall it after patching a new radio anyway.
Just flashed Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF.
So it doesn't matter if I flash the kernel or the rom first right?

Noob questions.

Hi, so I've been reading the forums for a while, trying to figure out how to root my DHD correctly, as well as installing a custom ROM..
I have Software Number 1.37.771.3
I assume this does not need to be downgraded, but just want assurance. Alll the downgrades need to be from 1.72.XXX.X
What is the most popular custom ROM to install?
What does flashing new radios do? And are they necessary?
What does S-Off do?
How will I be able to install my stock ROM back once I install a custom rom?
I know some of these question can be found by searching, but some parts are not clear to me.
Thanks.
Hiya, 1.37 does not need to be downgraded so you CAN root that.
The most popular roms I believe are either ARHD or rcmix hd (but it is down to personal preference, some roms give you things some others don't/can't)
Once you install a custom rom, sometimes you need to install a different radio to get better battery life, gps signal etc etc.
Radio s-off gives you the ability to install a custom Rom on Ur dhd, I'm not sure if its true but I think it is a MUST if you wanna install a Rom.
Eng s-off is needed to flash a radio, but you only have to have eng s-off if you wanna flash a radio.
You can just radio s-off to install a custom Rom and not have to have eng s-off to install a radio.
You can get back to stock by flashing the branded/unbranded ruu through your computer (its easier that way, I had trouble doing it through SD card last night, just run the exe. File through computer and follow the commands) , it will get rid of custom Rom, eng s-off, custom recovery and root all in one go, so all you need to do after is temp root and radio s-on, and you should be back to stock. Or you can do a nandroid backup (someone jump in cos not too clear on this point either)
If anyone wants to jump in and say if I got it wrong please do, but that's what I done last night.
Is your handset branded by any chance mate?
Cos what I done last night was flash the WWE unbranded Rom and now I'm unbranded, cos I used to be branded by vodafone, now all the vodafone crap and stuff has gone from mine.
Oh also you might wanna check before you start whether u can get your hands on a branded Rom cos if you have trouble with handset and need to send it back then your gonna wanna get it completely back to normal.
Anyway hope this helped and if you need anything there's lots of people on here that will help you as best they can.
Good luck ;-)

The most popular ROM is probably either LeeDroid HD, Android Revolution HD or CyanogenMod
Flashing a different radio is not usually required but can give you better performance.
S-off lets you install custom ROMs of your DHD, you cant flash a radio and Im pretty sure you cant flash a ROM without S-off.
The stock ROM (version 1.32.405.6) can be downloaded from CyanogenMods downloads page. Link
This might be useful too. Link
Also HTC Ace was the codename for the Desire HD so if you see HTC Ace anywhere its the right phone.
ARHD 3.5 has just been released.
This was exactly the thread I was looking for, I've been reading these forums for the last week trying to get my head around all the information. Im guessing once you understand all the procedures it starts coming a bit more naturally, doing my first flash tomorrow

Good luck mate, I did my first one last week, it was nerve wracking lol some people like me need a little more help and clarification from more knowledgeable members on here.
But we all in the same boat innit, just don't start too many threads on it cos you'll end up getting a warning like me, it was harsh but I'm gonna have to accept it looool anyways good luck and if u need any help just ask.
And make sure you follow all the steps to the point, cos you could end up with some unrectifiable problems ;-)

It depends what you wanna do, if you wanna unbrand your phone use the WWE ruu, if you wanna return Ur phone back to the way it was then use a official 3 branded Rom, and as you know if you want a particular custom Rom then just flash one of those.
I got my WWE ruu from xmoo's thread, it has a whole list of different ruu versions, so just pick the one you want but I suggest going for the 1.32 xx3 cos you can still root that version if you wanted to.

[Q] simple question about hboot

guys, i'm sorry to ask this question but i never got the answer from reading all the stuff here. i have a froyo 2.2, stock, the classical one from the last OTA upd., not rooted, a 3.15.405.3 build, with hboot 1.01 and i would like to root the device . 1) do i need to "downgrade" the hboot to 1.00 ? i couldnt find any guide to this one 2) do i have to downgrade to 1.31. version as the Unlockr says? his video is from the 13.12.2010 so i'm wondering if the things have changed since then.
thanks for any answers, hope i dont make some people angry
You can't downgrade your hboot. But correct you need to downgrade your ROM to root your phone..

so i just downgrade the rom and thats it? i mean..the procedure with the gold card + downgrade etc but no worries about the hboot? thanks in advance
Now you need to flash clockwork recovery which will let you install custom ROM(CM7 for example).read carefully on unlocker.com and you should get answer for all your questions related to rooting your legend.

Not unlocker.com. Gotta go to the right one if you wanna do the right thing, eh?
EDIT: WHOOPS! EVEN I FAILED THERE. MY BAD. Thanks ivanakis!
uuupsss...sorry.my bad.
theunlockr.com is the right one i think
