I flashed my captivate with I9000TGYJH1 firmware and the JG8 modem. everything is ok except I have an externat sd card on the phone and it doesnt detect it and the rotation in the settings menu doesn't work. I know its because the firmware is for the i9000, but has anyone found a fix for this yet. your input will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The I9000 kernel doesn't work with our externel SD cards... no fix for that ATM, and I don't think anyone is really working on that either
That sucks cause I really like this firmware.
So is there a way to root the phone without an external SD card.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You still have the internal SD card, and that's where the update.zip packages go. If you're using an I9000 firmware though you have to flash in the stock Captivate kernel so that you can select the option to install update.zip from the menu, then you can flash back to th I9000 kernel.
Where can I find the i9000 kernel.

Yes... you have to flash back to the I9000 kernel...

Dear XDA World,
I have just recently rooted my phone using the superoneclick root on my 2.2 Froyo Vibrant after a good month of research. Currently, I am running Eugene's R2 Final Gingerbread ROM, and I love it; it is very stable and intricately in tune with the Vibrant's functionality. Now, my problem currently is flashing to a voodoo lag fix (frustrating as hell). Anyway, I have tried the JL4 voodoo. zip, because that is what this ROM is closest to, I believe. When I copied to SD card, and went into clockwork recovery to install, it failed, saying, "installation failed," or something similar to that. I thought that voodoo wasn't working for some reason, so I tried to flash Nero v3's ROM: same outcome. If anyone would take time to help out a new user, I would very much appreciate the help. I wish to put voodoo lag fix on this R2 ROM, to be clear. Please be descriptive.

please redownload the kernel and reflash.
You need to make sure the zip is on the internal sdcard. This could be your issue.

u are wrong if kernel was on his external sd and since clockwork dont mount external sd he cant even acces it so its imposible to flash something that is on your external card.
Bartek, more specific, please.
And yes, I'm certain it's on my internal... Haha.

dude .when you went to clockwork to flash does it say installation failed or signature verification failed ? something like that didnt expain what your problem was
Yeah, read my first post again, I said it says "installation failed" and said it was aborting. This was all in clockwork.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
lol redownload the file again , reflash , or can you download anyother kernel instead of voodoo 4 and try ? or odin back to stock JfD with pit file and chceck repartition or if anyone knows better ............please post .
You sould really make sure the zip package is ZIP package not TAR package too, ZIP=CLOCKWORK, TAR=ODIN ,
I don't use Odin, man. It's a .zip package; example: I am rooted using R2 Gingerbread .zip. Can I not voodoo because I am missing a script or have the wrong kind? I've seen this in a few forums.

Oh and another thing is make sure u have enough room on internal sd about 1gb or more
why wont you flash DEAD HORSE BY EUGENE since GINGER R2 is released by EUGENE and DEAD HORSE is released by EUGENE also they fit like glowe , and you get ext 4 or JFS whichever u prefer .
That sounds like a good idea. What kernal of Dead Horse should I get? Does it matter in regards to compatibility?

Have a euro tab with roto image flashed on. Bought rom manager and euro bootstrap off market. Put the overcome zip on sdcard and boot into recovery mode. The problem I have is that the sdcard can not be mounted so the ext4 conversion can not take place and everything just mess up. Have to re-image it with roto to have it working again. hi loko3,
I went into the same situation during install Overcome FS.
Please see my post on this page (Solved Issue....)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973402&page=3
I found a way, to get it run.
I really don't know if it is a problem of PIT File during installation of Overcame Kernel, but with the intermediate step flashing MoDaCo-Rom with ext4 support
MCK r3 (EXT4 version with ClockworkMod)
I could fix this problem
Now my Tab runs like hell
Pls respond back if this issue is gone?
Thanks all for your input. I will try and flash tomorrow and see what happens
Hi i'm new to xda. Sorry if this posted at the wrong section. If so, can anyone tell how to move it to the correct section
Anyways back on topic. BTW my phone is the gt-p1000n(latin version), android 2.3.3 stock. I tried installing CM9 by following a guide from cyanogenmod's guide to flashing cm9 for the galaxy tab (sorry unable to post link) . Everything went smoothly until it rebooted after flashing the kernel with cwm, it got stuck at the boot screen. I decided to hold the power button until it turned off. So i tried going to CWM and it worked but i seem to be unable to install the CM9 zip. It said something about status 7 error when installing it .
Can anyone be willing to tell me what i did wrong with the procedures. Thanks for your help btw. And sorry for my bad English, it isn't my native language.

Tried it but it didn't work . Still got the error status 7
You need to install overcome rom as well.
I know it is incompatible because the touch screen driver is different,
But only need that so that cm9 installer thinks you are P1000.
So flash
- overcome kernel
- overcome rom
- cm9 for p1n
- gapps
You can skip installing overcome rom by editing the updater script too and remove the assert line at the top and zip it back.
Only if you know what you are doing.

Maybe you must update the ClockWorkMod Recovery to 5.5.x.x version.
To Anyone if you can't find the Overcome kernel.
I've uploaded the Overcome kernel for you
Good luck from Thailand

Seeing so many problems, I think you should restock.
Do you have stock rom?
If not, I still believe you can use overcome method.
Don't worry about the touch driver not compatible. You will be mostly on Odin and on recovery.
You just want to use the gb stock safe to restock with pit selected and repartition.
Then quickly flash overcome kernel and then boot to recovery and flash cm9.

yes that is for P1000N

No device added in the message box or no model number. If no model number it is normal.

Odin didn't want to recognize mine either, but if you plug the tab, and close and open Odin, it should detect the com port.
I had a similar problem in the end i installed a rom i downloaded from Humberos's website, jus google Humberos and its the first link, there are the download links at like his 4th post. Good luck

If you can get into cwm just try formatting your SD and then you'll have to flash a zip or ROM using cwm or odin

Just a big thanks again to the site, posters and developers. Cheers :good:
Hey
So I installed the newest official Samsung firmware which was suppose to allow moving my apps to my sd card. When I go to my apps I can see tge button that says "move to sd card". When I press it the app goes from the phones internal memory to the so called internal sd card which is the same in all s4's instead of the "extSdCard" what is the actual sd card I have.
Why those apps doesn't really go to the sd card and why would Samsung hype this newest update with that feature when it doesn't even work.

some apps do not support app 2 sd i.e : whatsapp antutu etc... its how it works.... im sure things will get better with newer android updates
Its moves the app only, not the data files.
If you still want to move the files, use foldermount.
Directory bind doesnt work anymore. Only foldermount has a patch to work around it.

No, it doesn't even move the apps. I just said that in the first post. They just go to the internal "sd card" intead of the "extSdCard". I tried with every one of my apps so it's not about some apps not supporting app2sd.

It's not about not supporting if it didn't support it the move to sd card button wouldn't have been highlighted so you are correct

I just got my samsung galaxy s4 (GT-I9500) but it seems that it is impossible to move apps on SD card.
Android Version: 4.2.2
Baseband Version: I9500XXUAMDK
Build Number: JDQ39.I9500XXUAMDK
I also read some forums and learned that samsung already addressed this issue by making the upgrade or updates but unfortunately my phone is up-to-date already.
Can somebody please tell me when does the said update will come out here in Philippines? I believe there's a lot of S4 users who also has this trouble as our phones int. memory gets lower and lower. :crying:
thanks
The update will not save you much of any space, so I'm a bit surprised that people are still so fixated on it.
