Is it possible to assign more than one number to a contact? I have tried, but number 2 is always greyed out.
The other question is how do you change between phone and sim contacts please?
Thanks in advance
Ummm...if you go into the full Windows Contacts app there are at least 4 or 6 spaces for different numbers, fax numbers, multiple emails etc. Easiest way is to add your contacts on your PC and then Sync up. There is a setting somewhere for "show SIM contacts" (maybe in the dialer?) but I don't store numbers on my SIM--not necessary (or even advisable) with a WinMo phone.
How do you input contacts on your pc and then sync them with your phone? ty
Ah lots of ways. Search for "sync windows mobile contacts"
how do you put more than one mobile number? ive saved multiples under wor..i cant find mobile 2?
I have also noticed that if I start to type a contacts name in the to field on an sms it will no longer find it....

You've installed a 3rd party keyboard which has now stopped the feature.

I do apologise, but I don't understand your abbreviations in your message.
Is your on screen keyboard the default windows mobile one that came with your phone..or did you install the touch HD keyboard?

How do you change between the different keyboards?
I had the same problems with newer ROMs on my old HD2 imports; as long as I stuck with the 1.43 ROM I never had any problems, but now I am stuck with the stock ROM on the T-Mobile USA 1024 and need a fix! Does anyone know of a ROM or registry edit or CAB or SOMETHING that can solve my problem?
The problem being...
After selecting a text, email, call, anything that launches a contact, selecting the contact's main profile screen and then pressing the Back softkey will cause Sense to hang for about a minute. The same thing happens under a handful of other scenarios, like selecting any number to call from that same screen, or pressing back to correct a number in the dialer. This started occuring as soon as I synchronized all my contacts from Exchange, before I installed any other mods on the phone...

Mine works fine as far as I can tell.
Did you try a task29? Sometimes there can be junk in the ROM. Yeah, yeah, I know...
sounds more like a faulty contact to me, maybe one that has a lot of stuff in the notes field perhaps? Something that is being perpetuated when synced.
Yeah; I actually just found a post at Pocketnow.com that said the notes field of contacts is the culprit... Cleaning everything up now. Thanks!
A number of people, myself included, have mentioned that since installing any JI6 based Captivate Froyo rom, the Contacts 'Group' feature is broken.
Selecting a contact from a group (e.g. 'Family') sometimes opens the correct contact, other times an incorrect contact opens, and sometimes a screen pops up asking us to pick an application from the provided list to be used to open the contact.
When I was trying out some of the I9000 based Froyo roms, I noticed that none of them had this problem. So last night I decided to replace the '/system/app/Contacts.apk' in my JI6 (Cognition 2.2vBETA8.1) with the apk from an I9000 Froyo rom.
With a couple of issues (see RED below), the Contacts 'Group' feature now performs without problem, always correctly opening the correct contact.
I've attached the replacement 'Contacts.apk' file, just BACKUP the original file in your '/system/app/' folder, then swap it with this one, then reboot.
You may find that you need to first 'chmod 666 /system/app/Contact.apk' before you can replace it. Just chmod it back to '644' after replacing.
NOTES:
IF THE AT&T CONTACTS SYNC FEATURE IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, DO NOT USE THIS FIX. THIS IS AN I9000 FILE, IT DOES NOT HAVE THE AT&T SYNC.
If you have any direct dial shortcut on your home screen, you will need to delete and rebuild them after applying this fix.
I found that simply by selecting what groups I want displayed in the contact list fixed all the problems I had.
Contacts > Menu > More > Display Options > Under choose contacts to display, select the dropdown you want to see. I only use Google contacts, so I selected All other contacts and Starred in Android contacts under Google.
Like I said, this fixed everything with wrong contacts being displayed when I tried to call or text the person.

That may work if you only use Google contacts, but not for 'Phone' contacts, contacts stored on the phone.

Has there been any confirmed instances of this problem existing with 'Phone' contacts. I've only read about the issues with Google Group contacts, a problem that I am too experiancing.

I ONLY use phone contacts, no Google contacts, and no SIM contacts. And this Group bug has vexed me since day one of the leaked Captivate Froyo release, and continued on every Captivate Froyo based rom (e.g. Cognition).
Replacing the Contacts.apk file I attached in post #1 of this thread fixed it for me.

Ahh, I see. I tested it out, and I see what you mean. All contacts witin the Groups tab are affected. Up until now I only used the groups tab to check google contacts (since I didn't display them on the 'contacts' tab).
Looks like I'll have to give your "fix" a try. Thanks!!
swapped out the attached apk file using root exporer. Rebooted. Contacts crashing on startup. what am I doing wrong?

Perhaps some of the DEVs (e.g. DG) might want to swap out this apk in their roms?

Well, that does fix the issue, but causes another one that will surely cause and uproar, again...
This will remove the integrated AT&T address book syncing.. a lot more people use it, more then I thought...
Okay, I'll give it a shot.

Just found another issues, the phone totally wigs out when using a direct dial shortcut on the home screen..
says its unable to make the call, then if you hit end call it hits the button you cant see, which makes it try to call again, you have to just wait or you will get into some crazy loop.

Thanks for catching that DG, I added it to my disclaimer.
This works great; I am running Cognition 2.2 Beta9 and the only real issue I had was this. I have a large number of contacts and depend on groups. Thanks
For anyone having issues you really do need to edit the permissions; otherwise you will run into problems but it may look like the change was made. I used Root Explorer and copied the original Contacts.apk to a backup directory. Then I went back to the system-apps directory and changed the permissions to rwxrwxrwx and copied the new file over the original. Then changed permissions back to rw-r--r--, which is the default setting and restarted the phone. It works perfectly and I can even use all the homescreen shortcuts (Direct Dial); I did have to delete and recreate them though.

Good to know, a bit of a pain, but at least there is a workaround to the problem DG found. I'll update the OP.
Any way to keep the video call option from coming up with the direct dial link?
I just don't want to see it, since I can't use it... It takes up precious real estate on the little popup list of options.

I don't get any popup options with the "Direct Dial" shortcut. The only dialing shortcut I get a
popup with options for is with a "Contact" shortcut.

Just copy this file to the system/app directory.- i used root explorer - do not delete the old one, just use the copy and paste option.
Then Reboot!

I thought that might be the case!
If you are just calling the contact you may just want to use direct dial, or direct messaging if only texting. I don't know of any way to change the contact options for a contact shortcut.
I'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly. I updated to MIUI 1.5.6 OsiMood Optimized v 1.1 w/FFC. Everything is working fine however, I can't figure out why my text messages won't sync with my contacts. Meaning when a person in my contacts texts me it only shows the number it doesn't show the persons name and pic. This is only for certain contacts not for all. I tried to update the contact with the number thats shows up in the text and it still doesn't work. I was also looking to see if there was a setting for formatting numbers but i couldn't find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

i am running this rom on my spare mytouch4g and running the desire z version on my att desire z. no problems. i loaded it up on my wifes mytouch4g and i am experiencing the EXACT same problems you are seeing.
Here ya go...
It has to do with the 2.3.4 branch (meaning its NOT the devs fault and will likely happen on all 2.3.4 MIUI roms).
The SMS and call logs on the new MIUI rom do not like dashes (-) in the phone numbers.
Its a small of a pain, but you will have to log into your Gmail account from your PC and edit all of your contact numbers to the format "+15055551212" (I completed over 300 last night in about an hour)...Once you have done that, On your phone go to "Settings" > "Programs" > "Manage Applications" > "All" > "Contact Storage" > "Clear Data" Your contacts (assuming they are all synced with Google) will be pushed back to the phone with the new formatting
Enjoy
(formatting them this way will NOT affect your ability to make or receive calls/SMS messages if you decided to switch to any different roms)
Hope I helped...if I did, please hit "Thanks"

@agentaaron - thanks for the help. had almost as many contacts. wasn't the way i planned to spend my spare time but had to do it any ways.
@TDJ - awesome rom. many thanks. i love it. also i appreciate how you're vocal with audience in troubleshooting and basic conversation. you're awesome.
SOLVED!!
i'm so happy, i finally figured it out.
I found it had nothing to do with number formatting or gmail groups, however somoene pointed out that if you went to their gmail group they would show there! Only the contacts linked with a FB account were showing.
FIX:
SMS > [Menu Button] > Settings > Advanced Settings > Filter numbers > Off
That DID fix it for me, and i have a variety of number formats.
For some reason in my hangouts app it is only showing my contact numbers not the name. But in the default messages app I am able to view the names from the contatcs? Am I missing a step? It worked fine on my HTC one.. I am running Sweet Rom V5
Also could anyone suggest any kernels that run well with this rom. Thanks!

I have disabled the default messaging app and have left SMS turned on for Hangouts.. But nothing seems to work for the contacts to be shown. only SOME contacts show the name but most just show the number.. Not sure where to go from here. Might do a clean install of the rom, but trying to avoid that.
