Updating right now...
Updated just now, no difference on the surface.
Yup, the same for firmware upgrade capabilities... it seems that Samsung didn't change the registry, so we should be able to upgrade our devices using the same registry methodology we're used to.
the upgrade file size is similar, I believe the upgrade is to cater new driver to recognise new Samsung mobile (like Samsung Galaxy Tab), no functional update.
I've never been able to update kies. I have to download it from another location. Does anyone know where I can get it? Thanks
It should be on the Samsung support website.

Just bought the SGS a week ago. I reside in Norway and my operator is Telenor (if this is of any importance).
When I got it, the firmware version was (is) I900XXJF3. Seen a lot of talk about other versions, which might or might not require root to install.
Anyways, on my unrooted SGS, I get no updates in Kies (horrible application btw), so I wonder if this is how it's supposed to be, and also when the GPS-fix will be released. Will it be availible automatically from within Kies?

JF3 seems to be the default firmware most people are getting out of the box. So far there are no official firmware updates via Kies, however the website samsung-firmwares have published several newer firmwares which people are using. They do certain things like make the phone run faster/better memory management, bug fixes and some people claim to get better GPS. You can install them using a software called Odin.
From what I have gathered, there will either be some sort of intermediate firmware from Samsung in the near future, or we may not see any official firmwares until the Froyo update possibly in September.
My Galaxy comes with the firmware JF7 and I got mine from hong kong. There are news floating around says that Froyo will comes to the Galaxy S in August for the Korea market, follow by France maybe?

Just was playing around with the Kies and Kies mini programs just to see if maybe I'd get lucky saying I was in the UK and it pushed 2.2. Anyway that didn't work but I did notice that the original Kies mini that I downloaded for the JI6 update was version 10000.0 (decimals may be placed wrong) and the one available now for download is 10095.9. Don't know if there is a big difference between the versions but I do remember people having trouble and this version may alleviate some future headaches. Yesterday I've updated mu phone soft, but the newest version KIES found was i9100XXKE4 - looks like it's not the newest one (should be WEK4, dated on 25.05.2011). Does anyone know why KIES didn't show newer version and when it will be availible for my phone?
Best Regards, Jack

When the phone provider or network upgrade the firmware you get the upgrade from Kies . Phones product code determines the firmware .

I know it, but from what I know my phones wasn't from any phone carrier, it's a stock one, bought in a shop. Is it any way to determine is it stock phone (by serial number, by rom number) or bought from the carrier (mayby I'm wrong about it's origin)...
Answer is because KE4 is the latest available Polish firmware.
Ok, that should be an answer. But the question is, how long do You think it take Samsung to make latest rom availible for Poland?

Unknown... Nobody knows. TBH I'd use the standard "UK" or Europe one that is updated fastest on...
Ok, but how, if the KIES don't see any newer ones? If I change language in the phone, will it work? Are there any other options, that are recognized by KIES to determine my location, thus blocking newest software update? Some time ago I used KIES Registry editor when wanted to update my wife's Samsung Wave (S8500) to bada 1.2, but it was differernt (older) KIES and different system (bada).
Kies takes Product Code and a few other codes matches them to that specific firmware on the server for those codes .
I have never ever on SGS 1 or 2 managed to update firmware via Kies once stock rom flashed .

From the linked threat I can confirm, that my phone was unbranded - I had XKE2 and could update only to KE4. Looks like there is nothing more for me to do except: waiting for update via KIES or risk update by Odin. Tough choice for me...
'ello geeks,
I know Kies has been infamous for just about every reason a piece of software can be..Perhaps before investing in S4 I should have gone through Kies reviews as well and not just phone's.
Anyway, the issue I am facing is since Samsung released the firmware upgrade for Galaxy S4 , I have been trying to upgrade via Kies (I do not have a wife router) and faced with below:
1. While it downloads the firmware data, it randomly shows phone's disconnected and I have to restart the download.
2. On one instances, it did go through the upgrade procedure completely but only firmware ID got updated as none of the features came in...on top of that ability to change unlock effect in settings got disabled for some reason. Post this I had reset the phone.
3. Another question is, for around 350 mb upgrade, Kies keeps on downloading 7 gb+ data,,,is this normal? and why would that be for?

Please let me know if you people have a different experience and whether anything can be done to mend it...or this is how the life with Kies is!
Thanks!
I am assuming that you are not rooted.
Try updating it manually via Odin

Just got my note 3. I was hoping to sync via kies but only photos and music comes up on kies when opened on the screen. I down loaded the latest version of kies 3 and my note has the latest firmware. I noticed there has been some talk of this but as an update as anyone else used kies 3 to success with their note 3?
Perhaps one should use the older version of kies?
Kies says to download the windows feature pack - but I can't find this and what is it?
I'm having similar issues the phone doesn't recognize the older version of Kies and the new one doesn't allow restore from older versions .
Pathetic

It looks like I will have to revert back to using My Phone Explorer. It was recommended here some time back. Nice and simple but I had thought Samsung would have improved Kies by now. One reason to get the note 3 was to get the latest OS and sync better.
i was hoping for some more replies. Perhaps you all do not use kies? What syncing software do you use?
KIES 3 is still in BETA so I suspect it has been rushed out to cater for this device and will be updated pretty soon.
I never understand however why software, guides and accessories etc are always way behind after a device is released.
