[Q] Bell i9000m Headset Values needed for iPhone-friendly headset compatibility - Galaxy S I9000 General

Bell i9000M owners-
Would you please confirm if iPhone compatible headsets (the kind with a mic) work properly on your device. Examples would be Etymotics HF2, Bose, Shure's, etc. If it doesn't have a mic, that doesn't count, it needs to have four rings on the 3.5mm jack plug and a mic/mic-switch.
By working properly, I mean that music sounds proper, mic works in phone calls, mic will pause music playback.
For reference, see this thread, which discusses that on the international (Asian/Euro) GT-i9000 phones the mic and ground wires are crossed on the jack.
If they do work, it's been suggested that instead of having to use an adaptor, the settings in the phone's special menus can be tweaked to change this with software. I am very dubious of that, but figure it's worth a try.
To test it, I need to see the settings for each of the screens in the Audio/Diamond Solutions menu.
If someone with working headsets (again, only the kind with a built-in mic) and a Canadian i9000 could post their settings, I can plug them into the Asian phone and see if this can address the issue for us.
To access the settings either get the SamServMode app from the Market, or just dial *#*#197328640#*#* from the phone's dialer.
the phone will enter ServiceMode.
Select [5] Audio
[2] Headset
[9] Diamond Solution
And then record each of the values on the submenus. Note that you have to hit the Menu button and select Back from the popup to return, the normal back button will exit you from the app.
Thanks for any help.

Someone a lot sharper than I suggested this, but looking through those settings again, I really don't see anything that would impact this.
The only thing that I can't just pick through and switch on and off easily are the values under
[5]Audio
[2]Headset
[9]DiamondSolution
[6]1MicTX
Some weird hex values in there.

Wow, not a single taker, huh? No problem, as I'm now convinced that there is no software fix for this.
Still, would be nice if someone with a Canadian phone could confirm that the headsets for iPhones work or not.
I'd like an AT&T compatible device, with front camera, that works with my premium brand headsets. Not sure if the Bell version will satisfy or not.

HBH-DS970 Bluetooth problem / HT820 review

I'm having problems with this stereo bluetooth headset. I can pair with it fine from a few meters away but I can't play music from it unless my phone is almost touching the reciever phones
I think i've tried everything, been through a hard reset and installed the bluetooth hotfix but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks superman101
EDIT: I couldn't fix the connection problem so i returned them and just ordered a pair of ht820 i'll let you guys know how that turns out
HT 820
I got my ht820s today and all i can say is that they are AWESOME
The range is incredible i can get the advertised 10 meters (33 feet) with ease, and indoors the signal rips through walls
Most of the buttons work answer/reject, call hold, answer 2 calls + switch between or merge them, redial numbers, dial a number using voice command
(not sure is msvc will work as i don't have it, if someone does and has these headhones i would appreciate it if you could fill me in as i would definately be interested in msvc if it works with these)
The battery is great too with 17 hours call time, 12 hours music playback and 500 hours standby, I'll update what these actually are when i have tested them fully.
The soud quality is also ace and all music buttons work with audio manager and windows media player (probably most others aswell) The problem that some people have that the music will play through speakers doesn't happen either. Loud as most people will probably want but the base is not the best i've ever heard but great for wireless headphones.
Very comfortable with ear hooks and no pain whatsoever after 5 hours, they will not fall off when jogging or in the gym as they are very secure ( Ijust couldn't shake them off)
I got mine for £17 from ebay deliverd and new (amazing value in my opinion) i recomend these to anyone who wants great quality headphones that won't break the bank, worth much much more

I have got a HBH-DS970 and have paired it well with my kaiser. I have checked both the Wireless Stereo and Hands Free options. However, only the stereo is working when I play music, but when I answer a phone call, the bluetooth headset icon is gone, and the sound comes out from the handset itself.

SonyEricsson HBH DS970 quality fix
You need to edit the registry to this setting
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings: BitPool: 512 (Decimal), SampleRate: 96000 (Decimal), UseJointStereo: 1 (Decimal).
I have been using this setting after experience disruption and range issues, and this setting fix all the problem i know. except display song play and name of caller.
what kind of software to edid the registry
what kind of software to edid the registry
thanks
Registry Edit tool
google PHM Registry editor, best tool, can be install into external memory card and in the event of hard reset your phone you can go to storage card directory under program folder and run the registry editor without reinstall. Good luck.

I use the DS970's as well. To answer calls through the headset, its best to hit the play/answer button on the lanyard instead of hitting the answer button on the phone. Not sure if its supposed to be like this, but honestly I prefer it. That way i have the easy choice of using the headset or not when the phone rings.

I have tried this but it doesn't work because when the phone ring, the bluetooth icon on the phone disappeared immediately and the voice came out from the phone not the headset.

Installed advanced config tool by Schap (attached).
Under 'bluetooth' select use joint stereo:no; bitpool:64; maximum supported bitpool:80; minimum supported bitpool:14.
These settings work perfectly on my Ds970s with no stuttering or performance issues whatsoever.

how to add a microphone to the nc?

Can we use the earbuds with a mic?
I'm guessing no. Is there a workatound if not? Like go mono with the voice and use the other line for a mic?
Could def go for gv or skype

No hardware support, that's required to get input from the phone-style headsets with mic, the OS wouldn't know what to do with it either. The only hope is when bluetooth gets working, and we can use headset profiles.

Adding a mic (physically) is definitely possible. Waiting for someone adventurous enough to do so. I googled around and found the pin-outs for the DAC chip in the NC - TLV320DAC3100 which has a MICBIAS pin. That is where a microphone should be wired to. Now, regarding the OS knowing where to access the audio input, I have no idea. It could be already in the existing driver waiting to be unlocked. Someone who is more knowledgeable to work on this would be a great help to the NC owners.
I read back somewhere that it was possible with the new usb hosting tweak.

Don't think so...not according to the datasheet. Yes, there are two analog inputs along with a micbias source, but the analog inputs are ONLY routed to a an output mixer and are never go to an ADC . Output mixer is sourced from DAC, analog inputs, or a mix of the two. Sorry
Bluetooth microphones are a no go for now. We need to know the GPIO pin in order to use them(if it even exists). USB microphones work somewhat already with USB host in CM7.
Has there been any further progess on this?
With Gingerbread's ability to have 'internet calls' - built in softphone - this could be the KILLER application.
I can get GV Callback to dial, and actually connect a call.
SOmetimes the nook locks up, however....
john
USB Sound
I ordered a USB sound "device" from Amazon for Can$7.00. The Nook recognizes the sound device in USB host mode (after reboot). The only problem with the mic was that the recording and playback sample rates were different, so the playback was ultra slooooow.
I have looked in the logs and found a message that the sample rate is set on initialization, but that is as far as I got so far.
I'll take a further look and post my results if I get anywhere.

[Q] Definitive list of working earphones/headsets?

Has anyone compiled a list of headsets that definitely work with the Desire Z? I'm talking about the hands-free earbuds with the inline music controls and microphone. My secondhand Desire Z did not come with the headset, so I recently bought a pair of the Sennheiser MM30i's. They sound great, and the buttons work, but the microphone does not. The phone detects that a hands-free set is attached (the status bar icon shows the mic), but for some reason there is seemingly no audio input from the mic. I've tried Voice Recording, placing a call, etc.
I've read elsewhere that headsets "made for iPhone", etc. may not work for unknown reasons. I thought these things were supposed to be standardized. I'll try to return the Senns, but it would be nice if we had a list of make/model that have been tested to work with the Desire Z. All three buttons must work (play/pause, ff/rwd, answer call, etc), it must be compatible with the various headset/button modification apps (e.g., Headset Button Controller), and the microphone must work (calls, voice search, etc.)
Recommendations?
Damn, I was JUST thinking about buying the same exact sennheisers... good thing I ran into your thread.

Well, at least my mistake has helped someone else.
I checked the thread below, but it was more about headsets that don't work than those that do. Or talk of using a Bluetooth unit, but that doesn't help if I want to use the FM radio...

Microphone volume when using wired headset

We have been using the Sennheiser CC550 professional wired headsets for years with a range of phones, Nokia, SE, Iphone (you can buy different endplugs). But to my astonishment the sound from the microphone is crap with the S2. After extensive research we haven found out that this is a general problem with Samsung, Google/Samsung telephones and S2, no professional headset (call center type) that we or our supplier have tried (we tried a lot). We also checked the wiering scheme to exclude any "grounding" problem, and can't find a problem there either.
Anyone got a wired call center type headset to work?
I have done some reserach and it seems that the condensator microphones used in electronic headsets have to voltage standards (someting like 1,5 V and 2,3 V) - could it be that Samsung uses the lower voltage or someting.
To add on the burden the bluetooth implementation in S2 is crap (tried Plantronic Discovery - doesn't work at all and SE WM600 works but not very well and doesn't have a micrphone "boom".
Any suggestions?
I am using Plantronics Discovery everyday from the very first day I bought
my SGS2 without any problems whatsoever. I have still stock 2.3.3 fw on my
phone, plus the matching cf-root. Are you on stock fw as well, or have you
flashed a custom ROM - maybe this is to blame?
As for the wired headset issue in general, it is a fact the the Android
implementation (in general - regardless of manufacturer) is, to say the least,
mediocre. No wired headset with in-line remote works (i.e. volume control,
skip/forward, etc) without custom apps and ridiculous button press combinations.
Thanks four your reply. I have uppgraded a few orginal ROMs, currently on Cognition 1.6. The problem with Samsungs bluetooth stack on S2 seems to be widespread, we bouth the WM 600 as it seemed to have the least issues and it's headset sond is ok if not good (don't mix the headset profile up with the A2DP bluethooth "music" profile which is not engaged in hedset mode) . The CM7 ROM seems to have sorted out the bluetooth stack problem, but have other issues. Our wired headset problem is not related to in line controll buttons (or anything with media playback for that matter). This is another aspect of the headset functionality that we don't use e.g. the CC550 don't even have any buttons - as it is a "call center" headset. Our focus is pure "talk" sound quality - and particular microphone (outgoing) sound quality as the CC550 (and other wired headsets) relays the speaker at the other end normally (i.e. good). As a sidenote maybee Android 4 supports USB headsets, it seems possible to connect a DACT anyways, this would solve our issue /Regards voz
Don't know if you have the same problem as I do; here is what happens with my microphone issues. Maybe related?
When using any wired headset, everybody will complain that I am "too loud". Not just painful volume, but distorted. At first I thought it had to do with the frequency of my voice or something, but apparently people can hear my car radio at a volume so low I have forgotten that it is on.
Another thing I have noticed is when I am using headphones with a microphone (not necessarily talking on the phone) I hear buzzing noises, usually when interacting with the phone. For some reason when I use Twitter it's really bad. Once, while I was on the phone somebody said they could hear it too.
My only solution to the mic-gain issue was to enter service menu and lower mic gain levels, of course when I reboot settings are lost and to be honest when I forget to re-enter them, my friends and coworkers take the opportunity to ream me out.

[5] audio
[1] nb (voice call)

[4]dst speech tx volume: i put 60 here, default is 88, but that is too loud. tx = transmit, many instructions say to adjust rx value, but that is to receive, so that would be your earbuds, not mic.
If anybody knows another fix, or way to make an adjustment permanent I would love to know.
Interesting, I cranked it up to 100, see how it goes. There are some other interesting settings, eg. Tx Gain - do you know what that is for?
A hassel to enter them again after reboot thoug!

My value for that and the 2 things before it are "0x6132"
I know this service menu isn't really meant for end-users, but it would be great if there was a little more documentation we could find regarding these values and what it all means.
[4]dst speech tx volume: tried 100 - increased the volume, tried 60 decreased the voluem - so it does work. However, the problem with the Sennheiser cc550 is that the Galaxy S2 changes the frequency response or something - so the volume is actually ok with the default setting at 88, but the sound comes out "high pitched" at the other end. To me it seems like the microphone in the headset is not feed properly from the handset. For an article on the subject see http://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/computer_microphone.php

Nexus 4 hands free problems

First post here, so apologies and let the flaming begin but I am trying to determine if my Nexus 4 "issues" are unique to me or normal for this phone.
1. Issue #1 - Bluetooth functions only for numeric dialing, no voice (say name phonetically) dialing or other voice actions seem to work. You can speak the numbers you wish dialed and that's about it. Maybe others can confirm whether this is unique to me. Android ver 4.2.1. Using with a Sena SMH10 bluetooth motorcycle headset
2. Minor issue, but also related - I can not use a stereo headset with my phone and expect the handset mic to work. Something that simply works in every other smart phone I've owned. You plug in a stereo headset (3 conductor earbuds only, not 4 conductor with mic for example) and the phone ideally recognizes the lack of 4th conductor and sends output audio to headphone while using handset mic. So, if you wish to make a call, you can do so. And if you wish to communicate with your phone using verbal commands you may do so as well. You may get "some" functionality using a 3 conductor headphone, however try making a call to someone and it simply doesn't work.
I don't think my phone issues are unique, but perhaps I got a lemon? Nexus support can't seem to confirm whether or not its a known issue.
Anyone else have these "features"?
Thanks in Advance.
Issue #1. Confirmed hands free dialing works over Bluetooth using blue ant s4. In fact I was excited they actually reworked the voice dialer to be accurate!

Well that's certainly weird. The headset I am using lists the following profiles:
Key Specifications:
• Bluetooth v2.1+EDR, Class1
• Supporting profiles: Headset Profile, Hand-Free Profile (HFP), Advanced Audio
Distribution Profile (A2DP), Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
The Settings tab of this headset in my Nexus say it is paired for:
-Phone Audio
-Media Audio
I have paired/unpaired and reset bluetooth device to factory.
This headset worked flawlessly with my previous phone, an HTC MyTouch 4G running Android 2.3
When i attempt a call, I get a prompt from the phone "Voice Dialer" that says:
"Say Call, followed by a name or a number"
If i speak the numbers to dial, it works perfectly. If I say the name of any person in my google contacts list, it balks and exits right away, sometimes saying "Sorry, I didn't catch that"
HF Dialing has been horribly broken in Android for some time. You might try disconnecting it from A2DP to see if that helps. For me, since I use a moto headset, I went with Motospeak and it works pretty well.

This works fine for me. I've used it a number of times in the car, where I have a stereo cable to an FM transmitter, and I just tested it with a no-microphone set of headphones: my voice went through the phone microphone with no problems.

I understand your frustration. Hands free dialing is a feature I don't like to do without. After jumping to jellybean from ICS on my fascinate handsfree was horrible.
When I set up my blue ant with any phone it goes through a "transferring contacts" part of the setup. Perhaps this is why it can recognize the peoples names and not just the numbers.
Does your headset "transfer contacts" like the S4?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
No, the headset is strictly a phone headset as far as that goes. Not a sync device like some cars, etc. In that case, it might work since dialing could be handled by the Bluetooth device?
I'm no expert, but relying on the nexus dialer seems to be the issue. What baffles me is that when not using Bluetooth and using the Google voice search, it actually works. If pressing the "pickup/hangup" button actually launched Google voice actions... It would solve the problem as well as give me further hands free operations such as nav and music control.
Anyone know how to make that action occur with Bluetooth button?
As for #2, I actually called nexus device support, and while speaking to the rep plugged in my skull candy ear buds. He confirmed that mic sounded extremely garbled and not understandable. These same ear buds world fine on my old my touch and my girlfriends iPhone. Both of those phones recognize them as basic stereo headphones and keep the handset mic intact.
I'm going to call them back and just get a replacement today. Screen has done the flicker/vertical lines thing now at least once too.
I'm having bt issues with my car stereo. It's after market that worked fine with my GNex. I can pair it with the N4 and it shows Phone Audio, but then after a few seconds disconnects. Could bt be bad on my N4? I normally have the headphone jack plugged in through aux and can take calls that way, but I'd like to get bt working again.
Update: after powering off the stereo and powering it back on it seems to be connecting ok

Just checked... Blue ant uses its own voice recognition to pair contacts with numbers and thereby bypasses phone voice dialer. That's why it works for you.
I just got a SMH10 as well. I am able to voice dial okay as well as use google music, what I don't like is no access to Google Now without handling the phone (which would require me to stop and get my phone out of my pocket). Not sure if this is an issue with the SMH10, or with android 4.2.x.
I know it's been over a month since you posted in here, curious about your usage and if you have found any tricks to get google now to work in place of the voice dialer only. Since google now should handle voice dialing I am hoping to get that to work so I can also use the navigation when needed.
Sending a note to Sena as well to see if they have a solution as well.
Hands free out-calling issue
As of last week the bluetooth hands free calling feature was working fine on my Nexus 4. A couple days ago I went to call out using the hands free, and the display on my car stereo went blank for a few seconds and came up saying 'Not Supported'. I can receive calls fine, but for whatever reason the hands free voice recognition doesn't want to open when I ask it to now. Anyone have a similar problem?

I've had exactly the same thing happen. Weeks and weeks of working voice dialing through my Blueant S4. Now, it doesn't work at all. Incoming calls can be answered, but I can't dial out by voice.
