I think it's annoying that the GSM status icon (which also shows active sync) is in the notifications tray, even when I don't have a SIM card. When no SIM card is inserted, Active Sync info is not showed either..
I desperately want to:
1. be able to remove the icon completely, at will.
2. talk to whatever process is in charge of the icon and eg. tell it to do stuff. I explain below.
Now, what I've tested is to replace cprog.exe, and this leads to the notification to not show any activity, even though I properly unlock the SIM and initialize TAPI and whatever. My theory is that the notification reads the GSM signal independent of the original cprog, and that cprog only tells the notification to start. But how!?
I have also fiddled with lots and lots of registry keys, looked in the db, investigated IShellExtInit, tried ConnMgr magic, etc...
So, if anyone has even a slight hint of a clue what to do, please tell me!
is there a gps can track location one??

i just want tht can track location for in order to send location to other prog to work together....
Hey guys, is there any anti theft software, which would send original owner some information, like GPS coordinates or anything like that?

W.I.M.P.
There is a program I use called "WIMP" "where is my phone" and it will text a person who you pick to receive txt messages when someone switches SIM cards. You can also track it on "Google Maps"...Tj

Thank you!
remotetracker.
its free and has more features than any of the commercial ones.
lock the phone, wipe the sd card, run mort scripts, have the phone txt you all your contacts, it can survive a hard reset so long as the sd card is still in, it txts you the new number if the sim changes, it can take position by cell or gps, record a 5 minute gps track log, open a vpn to the phone and control it remotely, and it can respond by txt, email and ftp.
brilliant piece of software.
Look for CrimsonLock which has now been updated to support HD2
Ultimate Theft Alert is best solution for me.

I have a new Galaxy S I9000, unlocked version, operating in the US on the AT&T network and although the phone works well, I've noticed two issues:
1. I cannot add new contacts to my sim card (receive a message that says "error saving to sim" or something like that) but have no problem saving to the phone it self.
2. After adding the Accuweather widget, although the weather is reported for the chosen city, the clock face that shows up on the screen does not have the correct time, whereas the phone does. Where does this clock derive its time settings from?
Thank you in advance.
i myself have that problem i cannot save my contacts to sim card. im only getting options to save to phone or google.
can anyone help ???

I don't know what firmware version you're on, but I'm on 2.2.1.
You should open the 'Contacts' app in your Applications drawer (not the phone dialler) and then press Menu softkey, and choose More>Settings. There you can specify where you want to save new contacts to. I've got it set to 'Always Ask' so I can choose at the time, but you can select a default place if you wish.
If you want to save all/some of your existing phone contacts to your SIM, again open the 'Contacts' app, press menu softkey and choose 'Import/Export'>'Export to SIM card'
Remember this applies for 2.2.1, not sure if all this is the same on 2.1 Eclair or 2.2 Froyo.
I get a message "Device Location Shared" now when i use android device manger is there any way to turn off that message? Have already tried turning off notifications for device manger.
Seems silly to show that if phone is stolen they will know it's been located.
fixed device shared notice on Android devices
settings/apps/google play services/unchech notifications
