You can simply format your SD card with Rom Manager (and create an ext3 partition / swap partition), then you'll have to install apps2sd by yourself (google "howto install app2sd android 2.1".
Else, you can use the WildPuzzle rom, which includes app2sd "nativly", you just need to backup what needs to be backed up, follow the small guide on the wildpuzzle's topic and restore your backup (contacts, sms, mms, apps, settings => my backup can do it really easily)

thanks

[Q] How do I get App2SD working?

Howdy.
I'm kinda new to the whole scene, but I managed to root my tattoo and than flashed the modaca R3 with additions.
But somehow I'm not sure if app2sd is working at all. Do I have to prepare something like Idontknowwhat creating a folder named "APP" or so?
I hope someone can actually help me..
Greetings

You need an Ext2/3/4 Partition. This can be done in recovery but wipes your sd card, so back up first
Also, MoDaCo ROM only includes Apps2SD if you select it in the online kitchen. If you don't have access to this, my ROM (see signature) is also based on stock and has Apps2SD
Hope this helps
Okay. That problem seems solved.
But I still have one question left:
When are the apps saved to SD? Are only new ones affected or does this also work for updates?
Thanks

If you have the correct partition, all Apps are moved to the SD the first time you boot with Apps2SD enabled, then all new apps are installed there
I also have a few questions about partitioning to get apps2sdd. If you partition the sdd does the gold-card get wiped as well, or it just wipes the user data? And is Windows still able to mount the sdd when it's an ext2/3/4 partition? Finally is it safe to partition when using a custom ROM? (using HCDR 1.5 atm)

Yes, the goldcard will get wiped. Everything does, unfortunately.
Windows is still able to mount the Fat partition of the SD card when using an Ext partition.
And partitioning in recovery is independent of the ROM being used so it will be fine no matter which ROM you use (glad to know you're on mine though )

[Q] How do i install aps on sd card?

Hi everyone,i need help.
I want to move my aplications on sd card but i dont know how.
Is there any option for that on phone or i should install something?
FroYo has it built in, and manges it automatically.
You could look into darktremor a2sd.
BlaY0's ROM has a2sd built in

Hey, I had a question on this.
Is the darktremor a2sd or the blayo rom a2sd any different from the froyo inbuilt a2sd ? If yes, how ?

Yes, they are different.
As far as I understand it (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong):
With the inbuilt Froyo method, the apps themselves need to have some code written in to them to enable Froyo to move them to the SD card.
With the alternative a2sd methods, the SD card is partitioned in such a way that the phone thinks one of the partitions is simply some more internal memory, and it just installs apps on there, thinking it is installing them on the phone.
Your space is only limited by the size of the ext partition you create on your SD card...
EDIT: BlaY0s partitioning guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907436
Thanks. But then what is data2ext ?

Where apps to sd just puts 2 folders on the ext partition, data2ext puts the entire data partition there

[script][old][already build inCFROOT]Gingerbread Darktremor a2sd for sgace

Thanks To ysgace and all dev.
this is not my job, just made easy to share.
So it's taken a lot of reading from a number of different places but I figured out how to modify the boot.img in the Odin CODE tarball in order to flash with an edited init.rc. I realize that with this power I could have simply built a2sd into the boot.img but one step at a time. So for now, if you want a2sd for Gingerbread (S5830XXKPE) then files and instructions can be downloaded using

this is the easiest way.. just go to this>> CFROOT

so do you have a2sd by Darktremor?
Whenever i try to create an ext2 partition in my sdcard, it is not being mount and i get a warning saying that the card should be formatted. if i give yes, it gets formatted as one single partition of FAT32.. Please help
I used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition in windows for partitioning
for partitioning use gparted
Before upgraded to gingerbread ROM, it was 2.2.1 where there is a app name "link2sd" free from market, which it mount ext2 partition of sdcard and move per apps apk file to sdcard, of ext2 partition, this is more flexible then Darktremor.
Where with Darktremor, the external sdcard will never able to hot remove from phone and plug it back. Which make external sdcard pointless. remove sdcard card will kill / reboot the phone, given without sdcard, phone can not start up. Also slow performance issues.
Where link2sd allow you select large apk only link to external sdcard, when unplug sdcard the phone still works without reboot / halt.

Sadly it doesn't work on Gingerbread. It's a pity, this app is a must to whom owns an ACE.

It is possible to do the same thing with 2.3.4 KPH?
I found so many noobs here in ace forum and so little developers and I want to help you. I come from optimus one forum and i like to help.
You need a custom recovery to create an ext partition and to make darktremor a2sd to worked. Amonra or clockworkmod recovery is the best. Then create an ext partition whether ext2, 3 or 4 then flash dta2sd from the darktremor a2sd thread here in xda(search it). The latest ver is 2753 beta 04.
Remember, without ext partition the dta2sd will not worked.
To check if your a2sd is working, download terminal emulator, press su then enter then type a2sd check.
Or download titanium backup agd check if it says a2sd space=???
Or the best way to check is by a2sdgui app, it is a official app from the dta2sd itself. If it says apps are on sd, then your a2sd worked. And if you guys still reducing memory even after moving apps to sd via a2sd gui app, its time to put the dalvik cache to your sdcard.
Fuh, thats a lot of writing on my phone. I love to help because i will buy galaxy gio soon.
Or maybe you guys should take a look at optimus one forum and learn how to make a custom kernel and rom there. Theres a very good thread on guiding how to build a custom rom and kerne. Im pretty surprise so many noobs here. Like i said i really like to help to improve this community

you need to install a custom rom with app2sd (called also a2sd) enabled... go in the "Desire Android Development" section and try

I suggest using 4EXT recovery to partition your SD card, it did it simple and easy. It's so nice a recovery i bought it, no regrets at all.
Then you'll have to install a rom with an app2sd script that will use the ext4 partition to extend your phone's memory

[Q] Backing up my Rom

Guys,
Sorry for this noob question, I have flashed Tytung's NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.7 Rom to my HD2 and need to back it up but I have all my apps linked to an ext2 partition on my SD card using Link2sd, I plan to use ClockworkMod Recovery for the backup, the question is will I need to unlink all the apps before making the backup or will the SD card need to be backed up as well. I have done a search on the forum but can't seem to find any reference to my question.

No need to do anything, just perform a CWM backup and everything will work as normal. The linked apps are fine.
