1. I wanted to root my HTC Magic and I have visited many websites and even watched some videos on how to do it. But still I don't get it. So I thought maybe anyone here can help me with it. I am currently on version 1.5 (Cupcake) and I wanted 2.1 on my phone. So I have been wondering which ROM is the latest and most stable currently?
2. Let's say, I have succeeded in rooting my phone and then I wanted to unroot it back, what do I need? Procedures?

First of all you must insatll new SPL to do nandroid backup of old 1.5 system, then root it and then if you dont like it just do recovery. Here is the gude for rooting your phone wiki.cyanogenmod.com

i want to flash an android 2.0 or higher rom but i dont like HTC sense.

I have read the XDA sapphire hacking guide and also some other guides but i am totally confused. According to some guides, i need to first downgrade to 1.5, root it, backup and put new rom. Since new roms have root enabled do i need to downgrade and root it?

Dwangs rom is a stock 1.6 android rom, not hero.
Google for the 'one click' method, seems to be the easiest way. Then follow this guide if it's your first time:

I have been searching all over the web and cannot seem to root my Magic. I have installed Windows XP now so some software and processes will work.
I have:

Is there ANY way i can root? I am gutted that I have been looking all yesterday for a root and a keep on failing.

I have exactly the same phone/spec which I managed to root/flash CyanogenMod successfully.
I followed the following procedure to flush the "recovery" image and then you can put any ROM you like...
Google: "how to: root the magic in one click" from the Unlockr
You don't need to flash the SPL but if you do then the 1.33.2004 worked fine for me.

No goldcard, just follow this guide which will get you a custom recovery installed. Then you need to follow the instructions from the specific ROM you're looking at to flash from recovery.

Hello all, I'm not exactly a noob but much like the guy above I'm in need of some DIRE assistance. Here are my specs:

My problems are many, but basically I'm hoping this thing isn't bricked. The recovery menu is gone, it had CWM but somehow that was deleted. I can get into HBOOT and fastboot, but neither are doing me any good in terms of trying to re-flash the recovery, and I'm almost out of options. I keep looking for SAPPIMG downloads, I have the goldcard and all, but nothing is working. I'm trying to flash one now, a stock 1.5 sappimg, but it keeps getting stuck right as it's trying to flash a new radio. Does anyone have any suggestions, any at all? I can tell you what I've tried if necessary.
