I had an Evo, I couldn't get past the compromises HTC made on hardware and build quality, as well as laggy interface issues.
Now with the Epic, I don't have to make those compromises, everything's like butter and it feels solid, no screen separation issues here.
I have both, the Epic grows on me more and more everyday. And by the end of this week, it'll be my daily driver. Gonna activate it and use my Evo as an MP3 player.

To be honest... when I pick up my EVO now, it feels like an old piece of junk. And you can make it look however you want. Just load in another launcher.

I personally cant wait to see how developement goes for the Epic. My EVO is flying at the moment thanks to the great developers on XDA. Hopefully beofre too long my Epic will be the same, if not better! We shall see

Shouldn't we have lots of development already done on this thing? I mean, it came out Tuesday folks. You expect me to sit on my butt idly waiting till next week or something? If I've gotta wait till October, I'm canning this thing and going back to my Palm III.

Haters lol, I own both of them read the post. I let my wife use the epic. All I asked is where is the development. And yes WOMEN like themes. And flowers. And romance but I guess that is gay 2. The difference is night and day. Our screens really do pwn the Evo's.
Development is kinda' now because the Evo was barely released a few months ago then the Epic came out.
If the Evo had been released a few short months after the Nexus One was released, development for the Evo would be on par with development for the Epic at this time. Hypothetically speaking.

naww but really the epic has been out for 4 days now and we've made great strides so far. The hero took about 4 weeks to get root and another 2 weeks to get its first rom. We have good devs that re willing to sacrifice their phones to try to bring these things here. So its no problem for me to wait patiently!

I am very happy with my evo. However, I am happy there hasn't been an evo 2 announcement.... YET. I love seeing new tech, but the Evo is still worthy of holding the Sprint thrown for a a few months a la Apple. A one year life cycle is great. Just my opinion though.

I absolutely love my Evo. Been in smartphone heaven since June 4! But a Evo 2 announcement wouldn't hurt. Never worried about yearly cycles. If they announced a Evo 2 tomorrow & started selling the next day, I would be in line. Well that is if they give us some major upgrades. The Shift imo isn't a upgrade.

I wouldn't worry about this too much. Yeah, there will be some jumping ship but if you peak XDA's front page the Evo is the most popular phone on XDA. I tossed the idea around to go with the 3d but I want to see reviews once its released. I would be willing to bet that with the first 3d phone there are going to be bugs like crazy. I know they test a lot but there are bound to be some issues.

Yeah from what I've seen review wise about the galaxy s2 and say...the HTC sensation, the Samsung looks a lot smoother more snappy over all unless you can't live without HTCs UI (i like it personally) then I would go for the GS2 from what I've seen. And I don't think they're going to screw it up and put a keyboard on it this time. (that may change with other versions on down the line though)

EVO is the most popular currently because the 3D is not even out yet. With that being said I'm sure devs will work on multiple phones. Myn works on a few different phones for example.

Where did you get info that the Galaxy is coming out in July? The verizon post was retracted.
Some of the dev.s for the Evo don't even have an Evo. It's not required to own the phone if you're a skilled enough developer. And we definitely have those on board with the evo.

Was wondering if we could get some of the top devs to chime in on what is the next device they are going to move on to now that the Evo has gotten a little long on the tooth. I'm on the fence on what my next phone is gonna be. Evo 3D or Galaxy S II. I'm partial to the GS II. The specs sound incredible but don't want to get it & have no Dev support. Case in point, the Epic. I've heard from Myn personally & he's on board with the 3D & I've heard through the grapevine that Aamikam is too. So what about Calkulin, toastcfh, flipzmode, ViRuS, netarchy, and others. Sorry if I left anyone out but those are off the top of my head.

Personally I say get whatever phone makes you happy; I don't buy my phone's based on which "dev" is getting it, I get it because that's what I want lol. Well I my upgrade came June 4th so I can grab the 3D on the 24th or wait for the Within whenever it get released. I'm trying to narrow it down because last year I bought the Evo on release date and purchased the Epic a few months for my second line. I walked around with both for months but rarely used the Epic. It was an alright phone, and spec wise it was better than the Evo but the devs are what really made the Evo for me. That and the fact that I despise TouchWiz with all of my being. Finally got rid of that second line and trying to make a good decision. Want to get the Evo but pound for pound the GS II is the champ. To me the dev support is gonna be the final decision maker. I'm a flash-a-holic and I need my fix for new and different roms.

I somewhat liked that phone too. No support = boring though. We have no decent developers left because the mods here and the ****ty phone owners have run them all off and Samsung's very poor customer support amount to ****. There has been a whole bunch of new stuff over the past couple weeks, so I apparently am not seeing where the development has become dead.
I for one am really pumped about this forum. Thanks to everyone here I rooted my phone and flashed my first rom. Going to flash my first modem tonight. I think the developers are all quality too. I'm running SRF right now and find it to be nearly flawless. I'm new to all this, and maybe I'm wrong, but a few quality devs seems better to me, as a noob, than trying to weigh through a bunch of potentially crappy ROMs just because a phone is popular. I'm very pleased about my first experience with rooting, and will likely listen closely to the suggestions of people from this forum when its time for a new phone.

Well ladies and gentleman I did the unthinkable. I was going to hold out for the galaxy s2 but I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the EVO3D. I just want to say thanks to devs, trolls, mods, friends, cool kids, baby mama's and daddies, all the people who accepted the GB OTA especially the one guy who keeps making accounts asking for root, people who helped me, people I helped, people who annoy me, people that love team win, people that despise team win, people that create pointless threads like this one, and anyone else I left out that made these evo forums awesome!!! @dased yeah i couldnt wait lol and @matty i hate sense also but the speed of the phone makes 3.0 awesome. I cant espress enough how much i really hate these camera buttons on the phone I could have really done with out them. Im amazed how cool the 3d technology is man I talked **** about 3D but boy is it cool. Missing my kickstand as we speak......

@matty i hate sense also but the speed of the phone makes 3.0 awesome. I cant espress enough how much i really hate these camera buttons on the phone I could have really done with out them. Im amazed how cool the 3d technology is man I talked **** about 3D but boy is it cool. Missing my kickstand as we speak......

The camera button bothers you only because you aren't used to it. After you get used to it, if you use the camera, you're gonna love it.
I didn't know you ever had a kickstand to begin with....zing!
The fact that on the evo 3d the charging port/ hdmi port is one in same makes it a no go. At least with evo 4g you can stream Netflix, HBO go and other internet streaming sites while still charging the phone makes it a plus. That phone will be 99 bucks after Christmas.

lol yeah root or not i believe ill keep it unless the galaxy s 2 just blows it away then id probably sell it or something.

Yeah bummer thats its on the left side and not the bottom....I dont think we will ever see the "Perfect" phone man......The evo was close but no cigar..

Being a over the road trucker must truck stops have free high speed wifi. I have a 387 peterbuilt truck with a 32 inch flat screen mounted so streaming movies saves a ton on entertainment. They want 26.99 for a new release DVD... No way.... So for me the evo 4g is where I will be parked for a while and if I do upgrade I will still keep the phone for that purpose ... I think there will be much better phones offered in 2012.

32" wow that must be insane inside your truck I bet! Id be happy to have a 7" in dash LOL. If they do have better phones is still get my normal upgrade by the end of the year as I didn't use it.

The cool thing with me is that by the time I upgrade in January, the devs will have rocked the 3D and the S2 so I can just step in, "root the *****" and start playing, like i did with the Evo.
Hell, they may have a root for the Evo 2.3.3 by then, too! lol

That would be the day LOL; in other news just out of curiosity I checked out a 3D porn 2 min clip and its pretty funny. Too bad it was one of those clips where you see 2 much man a$$ and t***t and not enough boobies haha #fail

Same here. I cannot stand Sense. I actually played with an EVO 3D, and comparing it to my rooted, fully decked-out AOSP running phone, honestly it wasn't much faster either.
I'm sure it will be blazing once root is achieved and it has proper support, but my LauncherPro was certainly faster than Sense 3.0, apps loaded about the same speed, the browser pinch to zoom was almost exactly the same.
I'm sure for flash videos and graphics-heavy games it would certainly make a difference, but aside from that, a rooted EVO 4G easily matches the speed of a stock EVO 3D.

Though let me know how it is; I'll probably get the Galaxy S II when my time comes.
I also picked up the EVO 3D and its so fast and I love sense 3.0
