I wana android to my htc mini. But i didn't find the suitable rom. anyone help? thanks!
Currently here roms are still in beta, my suggestion would to select a more popular device that has more support than us
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
the android kitchen can port roms from one device to another. i've messed with it on occasion and just doing the basic port process generally results in the rom loading, but a lot of things not working (bluetooth, wifi, camera, etc).
its a good place to start, though.

True but mine has about 20 min of use right now, and I have trust issues on the net.
Well IMO if you have trust issues then stay away from windows mobile. I just upgraded a month back from a windows mobile phone. Interface worked decent but not only was it restrictive it what it allowed me to do it didn't like me to tinker and customize it the way it worked. At least with the android based phone I can see the inner working, understand how and what is going on. And I can disallow whatever I feel isn't good for me.

you can't put winmo on an android phone.
If you can put android on a winmo phone why can we not at the least dual boot on a android phone

Its difficult, with winmo we could shutdown winmo with a app and load a os into the phone through the SD card but still there was alot of compatability issues. I'm assuming its going to be the same the other way. Camera will never work or radio ect..

Probably has to do with the fact that you'd be moving out of the grey area of rom flashing and firmly into pirating since you never attained a winmo license.
Which would also mean most sites wont allow it since your work becomes a liability.

its not pirating really, if so then my tilt2 had pirated software on it, i had htc sense (winmo6.5) ported from the hd2 to it plus i dual booted android 2.1 and had a full fledged linux on at some point
the real problem is the reverse engineering which no one wants to do, and i dont speak for all people but for alot of people winmo is become less than useful not saying it sucks because i loved my tilt2 but it had its limitations that my aria doesnt

That version of Sense you had was reverse engineered to a certain point. I can bet you if you took the cab straight from the hd2 and installed it on the Tilt, it either wouldn't install ir would be very, very buggy.
And as i said, doing this would move you out of that gray area. One could make an argument that you've paid for a license for WinMo and Sense and by flashing these new ROMs you're just updating. You can argue the other side, but thats why its called a gray area.
Android in its most basic form is FOSS. Google's apps aren't, but the OS itself is. You can legally install it on whatever you can get it to run on. To be fair, i don't know how they handle distributing it.
Windows Mobile on the other hand is licensed. You HAVE to pay for a new license otherwise you're pirating the os.

Your right and I'm not trying to be an ass
But to break that license you would hafta sell the software modified. They finally passed a law stating basically if its given to the open public it can be modified all u want untilled is sold then its illegal. The one good thing apple brought upon us
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Not exactly. I think its if you distribute it, not just selling it. From Engadget:
Basically, they just can't sue you for the specific act of breaking their protections but there's nothing stopping them from putting those protections in there in the first place, or for suing you for an infringement not covered in this exception -- like distributing Apple code in a non- Apple-approved way, or installing illegal or pirated software.

i realize this shouldnt be much of a problem to port
the only problem is probably the bootloader and recovery mode are for different OS's but otherwise these phones are almost exactly the same
although i have no idea how to port anything
Not to annoy anybody, but is there somebody even trying to port Android from the Aria to the Mini at this moment? Or is this a real dead one...?
Since the hardware is almost exactly the same, the only major thing should be a safe way to flash from WinMo to Android, or am I wrong?
Guys, are there any developers around here that can give an indication of how hard it is to port an Aria Android Rom onto the HD Mini? Could it be possible that just putting the Aria Rom on a HD Mini will give a 90% working phone (trackpad/screen/windows button are the only differences as far as i know)?

Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
I believed this is because the devs don't have actual source code yet.
we need drivers and the only way to come about hose would be an official vibrant gb kernel.
Im no expert but... wouldn't a person like eugene be able to make the drivers it would work?
Honestly, how much smarter are the people at samsung than the people on this forum???
I hope that was a joke.. the effort required to develop drivers for GPS without source code is immense for anyone that wasn't directly involved in the software development for the phone, hence no GPS working with 2.3 on the vibrant. The GPS in the i9000 galaxy s isn't the same as the vibrant, and there isn't a 2.3 rom leaked or released for the vibrant. That's why our 2.3 roms don't have GPS functioning.

That's like me asking you to build an engine from scratch. I mean, you've probably been in a car. You may even know how to drive it. Maybe change out the washer fluid? Fill it up with gas? Maybe even change the oil!
So if you can do all of that, you should be able to design, fabricate, and build a fully functional, great engine from scratch... Right? It's a pretty important piece of a car - sure - but you work with cars every day!
Not trying to be (too much of) an ass here, but really. Coding drivers is a difficult, very time-consuming task. There's a bit of a difference between coding to directly interact with the hardware, and hooking into existing APIs and modifying existing code. Has nothing to do with smarts. It has to do with resources. Easy testing access to the direct hardware. Money. Time.
I don't really know what's involve in the GPS drivers but I would think that if we get the source for 2.2.1 and make it work, it shouldn't be that that to make it work in 2.3. I am missing something here? I wrote up some linux drivers before, it's not exactly a sacred thing.

You're missing the point because you're not even seeing what your typing. No we don't have source for 2.2.1 but do you not see those first two numbers. This means that because 2.2.1 is still Froyo we didn't need to update the GPS drivers because they didn't change. Now we are talking about Gingerbread which is 2.3 and a completely new build.
Think of it in terms of windows. When Vista SP1 was released it meant very little when it came to hardware for those already running Vista. Now when Win 7 came out some of you drivers had to be updated. Some things didn't work right off and if you've purchased any hardware in the last 5 years such as a mouse or keyboard you've likely seen the sticker saying Vista compatible or Win 7 compatible.
Does any of this make sense?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
How about this for a related and potentially dumb question. What's the technical reason why a vibrant 2.2 kernel couldn't be used with a 2.3 system. In the Linux desktop arena, a huge variety of kernels can be used with a huge variety of userland.

Thank you for your answer @explodingboy. I know when there is a new version of OS, most if not all drivers have to be ported over. You actually answer my question though -- you don't even have source for 2.2.1!

I honestly don't get this. Hardware wise (excluding supported bands) the captivate and the vibrant have the same gps chip. The only difference is software wise: the vibrant uses one software/driver implementation, the captivate another (Which honestly makes no sense.....). In *theory*, the drivers/software implementation should work with our gps chip. Correct me if I'm wrong (Note: I've used the plumbob gps fix for the captivate with some success on the vibrant).

its probably because the north korean samsung made the vibrant and the south korean samsung made the captivate and you already know they dont get along.
Re
Here's the confusing thing for me, we had gps for 2.2 after eugene made it work with the leak from the i9k. So now that we have a 2.3 release from Samsung what makes it different. Did gingerbread somehow make gps different. My point is that when we were first getting 2.2 roms gps came quick.
edit: Im not complaining just curious.

Totally agreed with your assessment! There must be some hardcoded data for the Asian built version vs. North American. Would a binary diff give us some hints? But then if you don't have the source, you can't rebuild the damn thing!

What advantages are there to using 354 as the base over 351? Since 354 is customized for the Hong Kong market isn't 351 more flexible? Doesn't 351 include better language support?
Is the kernel different in 354?
Just because it was released after 351 doesn't mean that includes improvements, in fact 353 (last AT&T rom) was released after 351 and it isn't Android 2.2.2, it's 2.2.
So - I am wondering what is different or better about 354 over 351?
Will Netflix work? So far, I've only been able to get Netflix to work on Steve's 1.9.0. Even the 1.9.1 betas have broken Netflix for me.
a rom is a total image of the phone. Mine will be based on 354. There will be no aspects of 351 in the image. The first rom i release will be an optimized version of 354 with tweaks. Once that is completed, I will build upon that.
I am one of those people where when I learn something new i like to practice it a few times so it becomes memory. I want to perfect what I am doing so there are no issues for users.

Okay as many of you know the source of ICS has been released.
However over the past few weeks a few of you may know that I have been trying to port the ICS SDK to Play.....
Well todays update is .....
IT BOOTS!
Will provide screenshots in a little while when more things are complete.
At this moment in time touchscreen does not work for me to check what else works.
Also developers who are willing to test + help with the development of the ROM then PM me and I will send you over a link to download. ( Please give me time to upload )
Also since I am using the SDK it is highly recommended that people do not use this port as an everyday use as it is only the SDK and not all features are on this version as there will be on the main release ( SE ICS Release - From Source AOSP )
Thanks
Dean.

ICS Sources are Released
Cyanogenmod 9 is on its way and FXP will be releasing versions very shortly.
According to multiple rumours a skinless version of ICS is getting released by SE ( Sony ) in the 1st week of January unless they decide to skin.
Once again, I am sorry for the late replys and sorry for the project been dropped.
Keep an eye out on FXP thread, Also head over to Xperia Arc forums to find out the current progress of FXP Cyanogenmod 9

SE confirmed their plan on bringing ICS to all Xperia 2011 portfolio phones on stock browser (SE touch site). So why bother?
Let me first start by saying the rom doesnt boot completely. It boots all the way to when the screen dims and vibrates, when it is about to display lockscreen.. Logcat shows everything installing and starting correctly.. It wasn't hard to get to this stage, so it gave me a little bit of confidence in this awesome project.. Froyo was my favorite android version, as it was a huge upgrade for my old hero.
I thought it would be hilarious to release cm6 for the nexus s, heck I would have run it for the rest of my nexus's lifetime.
So, let me know what you guys think.. keep digging around to get it booting or give up because its old news..
If anyone wants to help for just a fun proof of concept project, or just to poke around, lemme know, the more the merrier
That is all. Waste of a thread, but that is what the general section is for.
LOL in this time and age running froyo is like going back to xp from windows 7. But yeah as a proof of concept its kind of interesting;-) What would be really interesting, is running gingerbread on the gnx
Oh wow.... I don't even know what to say.....
I would absolutely try this out

They are incompatibility. Because Nexus S is the first Gingerbread-device, Androi 2.3.0 is the lowest compatibly OS version.
You also can't install System V(AT&T's Unix system since about 1970) in your computer.

Yes this is true, but the point is that its almost booting.. I knew this from the start, it will require back porting drivers and probably a few kernel edits, but it may be possible.. in the end its just Linux running on a few upgraded drivers and a few kernel changes..

You also can't install System V(AT&T's Unix system since about 1970) in your computer.

Not without doing some back porting.
This is much easier to do from Gingerbread back to Froyo though, since you are building something to run on the same hardware and software stack (ARM and Android 2.x). The most difficult part would be getting drivers to work, but just as older drivers are made to work on new OS versions with shims and other tricks, in theory this is possible, if not a lot of work.
I'm not sure what will be gained though. Gingerbread didn't seem like a significant resource drain over Froyo, so I can't imagine there are any speed/power gains.

Yeah not really much to gain, but how awesome would it be to be able to be able to add to the list of things that can run on the nexus s.. and froyo on the flagship gingerbread device? against all rules

What about cupcake?
In all seriousness though, froyo would make a great ROM. and It should in theory be faster than GB.

Great Idea! I also thougt already how older Android Versions would run on the Nexus S.
When 2.2 is running, you guys should start porting 1.6 ;-)
Doesn't it help, that the similar SGS already was running 2.2?
Wow...you are amazing swamp goblin.

Yeah, its funny because I tried porting a froyo touchwiz rom from the og epic, and it got to pretty much the same place when booting haha.. hopefully I can get this working, along with other variations of froyo, that would be the greatest achievement for me in any android related stuff.
