[Q] - Microphone when using 3.5mm port - Epic 4G General

With my Touch Pro2, I was able to plug my phone into the aux port in my car via stereo cable, and I could still use the microphone. It seems that when I plug the Epic in, I get the sound... but the Microphone disables itself? Does anyone know of a way to fix this? I have looked at most settings but can't find anything.

I posted a similar issue about 20 threads down in this forum. My car has an aux and bluetooth for the phone. When aux is in use, the phone decides to disable the built in mic AND it doesn't route the calls over the bluetooth. 2 HUGE oversights in this phones design. Should be a simple software fix, but I'm not a good programmer.

I use my car's bluetooth hands-free which includes audio support (no AUX use required, though music seems to sound better wired). My only issue with this setup is that I cannot use speech recognition; that is to say, the microphonr doesn't wrk when the phone is pairred. I'll keep my eyes on this thread in case someone knows a fix.
Thanks!

Just an FYI, the Samsung Moment does this also. I believe it has something to do with the ability of using wired headsets with mics, so the built-in mic is disabled whenever something is plugged in, even if whatever you plugged in doesn't have a mic.

The Samsung Moment has this same issue, dangit. I was hoping this wouldn't. Is there a fix?

It is a matter of making a small app for the epic only, that over-rides the physical switch. Even better would be an app that detected when headsets were plugged in and it gave you options.
Where is the microphone located? Bluetooth, phone, headset
What would you like to use to listen to phone calls: Bluetooth, phone, headset

So, I was reading on another forum that this "issue" was not an issue on the Moment cj05 update. But turned into an issue on the cj14 update. Hey dev's that may be reading this. What is the possibility of finding the file in the cj05 update and overwriting it onto said file on the epic?

I have this issue as well.

It's definitely an issue with the Epic. When in my car, I'd have my EVO plugged into my Aux jack and could still talk. Not with my Epic. Boo hiss.
Hope it gets fixed... as this is a pretty big feature for me to lose.

I have not discovered a software fix, but this should be a hardware work around. Hands Free 3.5mm Adapter + Microphone, with 3.5mm pass through.

have you tested this? does it work?

So I found something out.
As described before, when the phone is plugged into an AUX port in a car using a 3.5mm cable the microphone is disabled when you get a call.
However I found out that it is not disabled at all times. Even while the phone is connected to the AUX port. I tested using google voice search while playing music via AUX. I also tested using EverNote to record a note with an active call in the back ground.
Point is the microphone is NOT disabled, the phone app simply ignores it. Perhaps using a different phone app other than the one included would resolve this issue. At least its a software issue and not a hardware problem.

No I have not tested it. However I know the included headset with a microphone built into the cable work. Seems logical that it would work.

I tested and the app does not replace the default dialer. It might not be possible to replace it without a new rom.

I have problem using the supplied wired headset. When placing a phone call,I can hear the other person, but they cannot hear me.I returned my first Epic. The second one has the same problem. THIS is a hardware isue. i tried using bluetooth headset, no problem. Only happens when using the 3.5mm port.

Actually, what you described sounds like a software issue. Considering the moment does the same thing after the c14 update and not before also points to a software issue.

Please read my posts above. It is a software issue. The microphone will still work...in other applications. It is only the phone app/dialer that mutes it.
I cannot fathom how Samsung would allow this, they include a Headset/Microphone combo with the phone, that does not work for making calls. That is like including a spoon with a hole in it with a bowl of soup.
Again it's definitely a software problem. Best way to get it fixed it to flood tech support with the problem till they are aware of it and issue a fix.

I read somewhere that if you use sasmung branded ones it works..but I have not confirmed it...

stereo headset on wizard

my 2.5 - 3mm adapter that worked on my blue angel in STEREO gives me MONO output on my wizard (same mp3 file, wmp10, same headphones etc.).
means it's useless as an mp3 player...
anyone got a way of getting stereo output from the wizard?
wrong; channel asymmetry!
ok, after running the output through the stereo, i can hear that there is some left channel output, but that it is on a balance of about 5%Left/95%Right
open to suggestions...!
it has been said that the pin config is non standard due to the mic
readit here somewhere
yes but...
the adapter works in the blue angel, which also has a mic. in fact the (awful) standard headsets shipped in the box are interchangeable.
any other ideas? any good experience with BT headsets, perhaps?
Picked up a Motorola BT 820 last week (CompUSA had them for $79.99; Expansys now has them for $78). It works really well with my SX66 (BlueAngel), still running PPC2003.
It supports A2DP, handsfree, and AVRCP profiles; the SX66 doesn't support AVRCP, unfortunately, so the Moto's media control buttons don't work. As a handsfree phone headset, it works at least as well as the Bluespoon AX2 -- the Moto has none of the speaker/mic crosstalk that cheaper BT headphones (Zonet ZUB8100) have and the mic (built into the right speaker housing) has good pickup and selectivity.
In A2DP mode, there's no static (at least close to the SX66; I haven't done any distance tests yet). Haven't tested switching from A2DP to handsfree (i.e. answering the phone when listening to music), or use with Voice Command -- that'll come later when I get some free time.
The only problem I've seen with the BT 820 is that it sometimes takes 2 or 3 tries to get the SX66 to connect to it, especially in A2DP mode.
have the same headphones with k-jam, the avrcp works as well as a2dp,
also can dial and answer calls handsfree, the music stops and then re-starts after the call.
Ummm...
Am I missing something?
How can A2DP work with the K-Jam if support for A2DP hasn't been released yet?
Confused
I have the O2 XDA mini s varient and understood A2DP was not included?

Thanks for the link and info aliendad.
For us noobs to rom U/Gs, (and assuming that you have an O2 Mini-S), what changes can we expect from this rom to the standard O2 UI, do we have to re-configure GPRS for example.
a2dp is one of the most irritating missing components from WM5 so this will be a great U/G if it works.
Sorry if the question is a bit dumb guys

i have the imate k-jam, and the cab is available to set up o2 contract settings for you.
only found small list of changes but as i have already said, sorry don't do french.

Exactly the same as this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5860021523 but shorter and rewired for the Wizard, thinking of knocking some together and selling them on Ebay, but do not know whether i can be bothered yet.
Well I got the Hama lead BUT any slight knock and the damn thing starts to come out with the result in a loss of one channel. (just putting my phone in my pocket causes the plug to come loose??)
Now as I've got a pair of Logitech MP3 bluetooth stereo headphones I'll give the ROM update a go to see if the A2DP bluetooth works or not??
A couple of questions though..
Is there a decent set of bluetooth stereo headphones out there, that ALSO have a mic for hands free?? and
I assume updating the ROM will not effect the contents of the extended ROM?? (well it didn't last time)
Cheers
John
i tried the bluetake range, but in the end have the motorola ht820 which are very nice and not as expensive as some of the others.
watch out that some say handsfree but you have to make the call using the pda, (you can answer/hangup from the headset) whereas the ht820 can use voice dial.
the upgrade of the rom will effect the extended rom if you are installing a complete new rom set.
there have been downloads with a selected rom only, and then nothing else is effected.
but full upgrade will lose everything you have.
@aliendad
Did you get to try the A2DP english hack yet?

Hello,
Sorry for the interuption. Just a quick question. Going through so many post. I still cant find any solution or any good stereo headset build in MIC. The original headset is really annoying and ugly.
Itried to browse all over and look for a compatible headset. But all doesnt look very good.
Any recomendation ?
Many Thanks!
anwering yours and cozzykim's post at the same time,
am now running the english rom with a2dp and it works fine so far,
and for waiho, i have myself the motorola ht820 head set, which after trying others i felt was the best choice.
there are some that are smaller, but either have a detachable mic, or one set could not be used for voice dial! you could hangup/answer from the headset, but had to dail from the pda.
defeats the object for me.
i travel to work on the london underground, and it is great when you are squashed like a sardine in a can to be able to adjust volume, next/previus track just by touching my ear (well almost)
Hello,
Thanks for the advice. I think the headset that you using is too big for me. Im looking something like
Im still not sure issit compatible with K-jam or is there anyone using it already.
But the website stated is compatible.

OEM product from HTC
4 in 1 adapter with a Power Status light contains the following ports
1. HTC ExtUSB standard headset connector
2. Mini USB power connector
3. 3.5mm audio connector (with in-line mic support)
4. 2.5mm audio connector (with in-line mic support)
Anyone use one of these?
Work well?
Does it have the problems that the other adapters usually have?
High-End.
I would like to know how well this works (if it works at all).
Could come in handy if I needed to record some quick audio!

I'll report back when I get it.
what problem do other adapters have???
if you mean the difference between a stereo plug an a stereo/mic plug...
then you should not blame products malfuction on your lack of knowledge

Nice.
My goal is to record some audio somehow on to the unit.
I am a DJ and sometimes would like some "basic" mono recording directly from my mixer.
If this is doable with this phone and adapter I'd be so happy LOL

This adapter has a pinout problem which causes problems with audio out.
Asshole.
I have the 4-in-1 adapter. Works good. No problems. Syncs, charge all at the same time.
You willl be surprised with the size of this thing. Initially looking at pics I thought it's fairly large and big but it's really small.
Not to mention that you can also use the 3.5mm jack for TVout, but the titan doesn't support that.
Is there any way to just RECORD AUDIO from a source in to this unit?
I have always wanted to figure it out. With all the recording software for these phones, I got to be able to find SOMETHING that will allow me to record from an audio source.
Help?

while you can use a degrading word really well
is it also possible the solution is simple?
i'm not saying its the problem
because i dont buy these things
but have a look at a pair of "older than dirt" industry standards
its called stereo & stereo w/ mic
hmm...maybe i'm wrong...but i doubt it
I have both the adapter you're asking about and one like the other pictured in this thread. I had to perform the same *fix* with both of them of bending the top right pin (if you have the notched side also on the top right) down in order to get them to work. Once I did that, it works great. I can charge and listen to music on my headphones. I have not used it with any kind of headset that has a mic in it for phone calls or with the connection for the mini-usb style headset. The 3.5mm jack works and the usb/charger port works for sure on mine though.
anybody have the one in the first post with a Ryan Mogul ROM?
I had a stock ROM and my USBmini thing to 3.5" worked great.
Moved to a DCD ROM and I had to do the pin out thing to get it too work.
Now with Ryan's ROM's it doesn't switch to audio out, just stays with the internal speaker. Any idea?
maybe this one will work for me?
Yea, I'm using Ryan Moguls verizon 2.2 heavy I believe. I had to change the pin when I had the MR1 update, but both adapters still work now. If I plug the 4-in-1 into my phone the internal speaker keeps playing, but once I plug my headphones into the adapter, the sound switches to my headphones. Can't speak for everyone else's, but it works on mine.
Is there ANY WAY that I could use the MIC on the 6800 as a LINE-IN for AUDIO???
Mono recording is fine, I don't need Stereo at all.
I hope it is possible.
Got my adapter in yesterday, did the pin mod and I'm loving it.
It will be nice to listen to Pandora while I'm driving a Uhaul for 400miles

I agree with the last word. I bought this same adapter thinking it would work because it was advertised it would work.
i have this OEM product from HTC 4 in 1 adapter . it works ok except it doesn't support out-line mic ....when talking on the phone, you could hear them they can't hear you.

Not too comfortable to use for a long duration & as it doesn't have noise cancellation, very hard to get the voice dialer to work correctly on the road.
using a sony dr-bt50 and a jabra bt3030 both works well
I'm just using the headphones that came with it at the moment, got a couple of bluetooth headsets, o2 and jabra, cant remember what models, they are both hideously ugly though!

im using the Dell BT-200 wireless headset. works well for me
Jabra BT8020
It has a oled display with adjustable brightness) that show the caller
Phone contact storage facility, so I can have contacts in there and call them without ever take my tab from the pocket
Vibrate
sound: incoming calls good, outgoing calls usually good, but I used Sony and other jabra models and they don't see to be any better
It can be used mono or stereo by plug into it the other earpiece that come with it, and it has a very good sound
the music player can be controlled from the headset (Play, pause/stop and next song only, the display won't show music info).
Connection and disconnection so far not problems and the distance around 10m (just as it says in the tin)
Is a few years old but the battery time is still decent, sadly I don't know any newer device that does all that in such a small package and I bet if someone with the "knowhow" could hack it to use the display for much more.
So for now this thing do what I need, I may replace it in the future either with something more advanced (if I can find it)
or
with a combo of BT headset/Viewpad if eventually it is made to work properly or
with a BT headset/Sony Ericsson BT watch, I used that in the past old WM times and my thanks goes to moneytoo for his fantastic app if someone here does not know him yet, do a search, it is worthy, specially with a device like the Tab
Do I still make sense or I need to drink more beer?
I use Motorola S305 headphones/headset.
I'm using Sony Ericsson MW600, it binds with my Galaxy Tab, Nexus One sometimes even my imac all at the same time and it even has built in radio and it's a stereo bluetooth, it supports 2 or 3 devices at once
So need to carry mutliple headsets
Cheers
I have been using the Jawbone Icon and I find it is really good, especially after you customize it with their website. [Q] Are there any external microphones that work with A500?

Did anyone tryusing an external microphone with A500? I tried plugging in a 4 pole and 3 pole microphones into the headphone input but they did not work.
I also tried a usb sound card with microphone on it but even though kernel identifies it properly, mic. does not work from it.

Absolutely. It's easy to test. Just cover the tiny hole over the embedded mic and the other person can hear me just fine. Cover the headset's mic and no sound!
I bought an iPad/iPod/iPhone one for my wife and it works on her iPad but it won't work on my A500. The one for the PSP, however, works fine!
Of course, I wouldn't stake my life on it mind you! I know it works on mine.

I can confirm that qhorque is correct. I use the exact same set of headphones and the microphone definitely works. If I could find a set of these that were bluetooth instead of wired they would be perfect.
They dont have to be PSP headphones, any headphones w/ a mic should work. I have a couple different ones that I use.
On my iconia a500, bought recently in France, none of these external microphones work. There is no little hole on the front cover. I took off the back cover of the tablet but, even so, you must speak very close to the microphone for a more or less correct result.
It's clearly a big failure on this model but, as far as I can read hundreds of complaints on internet, many of us are facing the same problem with the a500.
I'm facing the same problem. None of Mic+earphones I've try works. I have tested Nokia, SE and some China-brand. Only thing I get is some echo in headphones (like DD effects hehe) but no Mic response.

That's the problem, they SHOULD work but not all of them do.
As I noted above, the iP* ones I bought for my wife did not work in the A500 and they have the 3-connection plug, a microphone, and ear buds. Something in them make them iP* specific and unable to properly function on the A500 I guess.
So, you do have to be careful. Unfortunately most of the time you have to buy them to try them!
The Ipad/iphone ones will not work, the mini plug is not poled the same as our plug. Apple does this on purpose to force you to buy their banded or licensed products. You need to look for a headset/mic combo that is made for a windows or generic product. Also, has anyone had any luck using a bluetooth headset with the iconia.
This might not be the answer for everyone, but I use a product called Headset Buddy (Look on Amazon) that allows you to use any headset that has the two (mic/speakers) plugs commonly used in PCs. It works pretty well, and it doesn't limit you to only that headset, and when the headset breaks/wears out, you just replace it instead of having to get a specialized product.
Sorry for the long post,

I have tried three different bluetooth headsets, two different motorola models and a sony, and all three of them registers as a audio device only, so the mic.s on them does not work.

Thanks a lot, just ordered a similar item from amazon, I guess I'll have it on Friday.

Thanks for the info, this is probably why my two mini microphones does not work as it says it works on iphones on both of them. This is one of the main reasons I absolutely despise apple.

I do not have any holes whatsoever on the front cover either. I guess some of them are just sold with this manufacturing problem.
Unfortunately, hole or not hole doesn't make any difference, on my iconia a500.
It's very easy for anyone to check it.
Just take off the back cover of your tablet -amazingly, it's not very difficult to be done just with nails, starting from the sdcard's compartment - and try to record your voice with the microphone uncovered...
Even doing like this, the sound's level after record is very, very low. The record becomes audible (but still not perfectly clear) only when you speak at a very short distance of the mini microphone (at more or less 1 inch !).
There are two mini micophones actually, located next to each other. I wonder why.
I tried to switch them (easy to do as well) but it doesn't make any difference.

No, I ended up returning the mic.

[Q] Multiple Bluetooth Devices

Hi,
So I have a bluetooth headset and all is well with that. What I was hoping to do is pick up a bluetooth FM transmitter like this one:
http://www.banggood.com/Wireless-Bl..._campaign=newsletter-emarsys&utm_content=vera
So is it possible to have a phone call to my ear and music via the FM transmitter at the same time? Bluetooth phone + 3.5mm music doesn't seem to work, so maybe BT+BT will. I have done all sorts of magyver audio setups in the car over the years and I am at the point where I want only a single device and no wires (other than charger); as of now I have been unable to find a way to be on the phone and have music going at the same time on one device. I have an ipod but it's interface is really janky and dangerous to operate behind the wheel. Plus my phone can download music on the fly.
Anyway, the internet yielded poor results, so here I am asking.
So I found a roadblock
So I tried using the bluetooth from a car that I occasionally drive. I managed to pair everything up and had both my Jawbone headset connected as well as the car. I had the music playing through the car's stereo. All good. I tried making a test call, and the music audio was routed to the earpiece as well as the call. Not sure what's wrong here. I have in the profiles the Jawbone set to call only and the car set to media only. Not sure if it's a glitch or just pilot error.
I don't drive this car often, the one I drive like 50+ hrs a week has no bluetooth, hence why I want to buy the adapter. Not sure if there will be any point if this is going to be the result. This is exactly what happens when I try to use BT + 3.5 mm as an audio solution. Maybe multiple sound destinations is too much to ask?
I think what you will need to do is find a device that does both rather than trying to juggle two devices.
Car bluetooth will play audio then pause for calls, etc, but I do not know how different devices would interact with each other to have them pause while the other is at work...
My experience with FM transmitters has been poor. The sound quality is greatly diminished, and you get interference.
I would just go to crutchfield and get a new stereo for the car you spend most of your time in.

When your paired and connected have you tried going into Bluetooth settings and clicking the device.. I know there's usually and option for audio and one for phone audio.. Turn off phone audio for the car radio so it should only play music.. And turn off audio for the jawbone and just leave phone audio checked..
I haven't messed with it yet.. I did do on my atrix hd on a trip so we had music and nobody had to listen to my phone calls.. Not sure if the option is definitely there since I haven't done it on this phone but I would think it is
Edit: screenshot was taken on my s4 so if you set it up the way I described earlier you should have music from your radio/transmitter and phone calls only to your headset

I have played exactly with these settings and I have the earpiece to phone only and car set to media only but when the call comes in, the car stops playing music and the music goes to the earpiece with the call which is annoying. I would like to be able to be on the phone and have the music keep playing, as if the car was playing from a cd. I am thinking maybe it is not possible to have two outputs active simultaneously.

I drive a taxi so i want to keep my calls off the radio. I mute myself and interact with my customers, play them music, etc. When the customer leaves i turn the music down and return to the call. Again, I think these phones might not be capable of making sound in different ways at the same time. BT + 3.5 jack yields the same issue with the music routing to the headset on a call...

Hmm.. I know I had my other phone do what I described.. It did however stop playing music on the radio while I was on a call.. Then resumed when I hung up.. I'll have to try it tonight when I leave work and see.. But you definitely may be right..

That would be appreciated. Pausing playback would be preferable to having the music drown out the convo in the earpiece. If I were rich I'd keep my old phone for music, but such is life. I use poweramp so maybe that has something to do with it. I also tried an app called soundabout but it doesn't seem to do what I want. I posted on their forum but no response yet.
