Anyone know a good torrent client for android? - Galaxy S I9000 General

I need one, as I am always on the go, and because the sgs plays most formats out of the box it would really be useful. Keep in mind I am asking for a client to download directly to my phone, not a torrent manager. Any help would be apreciated.

I have downloaded gigabytes of stuff on my phone while I am sleeping

waste of battery power IMO
also data rates fees
but is good for emergency to get small things

If your on the go I'm sure you are always charging the phone. If you have a laptop you could just use wireless tether. Theses more security on your laptop(ie. Firewalls, virus protectors) than your Droid.

I tried the 3 torrent clients available and found Swarm to be the fastest. Plus it has the best UI.
They're all quite slow (compared to desktop in the same network) and expensive though.

omg thanks, been looking for a torrent program. I have a grandfathered plan with unlimited data so I am going to make it worth it.

i like dTor better

[Q] How to use Epic as mobile hotspot

Ok one of the reasons I mainly got this phone was the mobile hotspot feature because the internet at my college blows and it would be nice for everyone to be able to browse the internet in a single dorm and not just 2 people. Unfortunately Sprint has made it so this feature costs an addition 25 with your bill. I don't pay the bill so this isn't an option for me. I heard that if you root the epic, you can use the mobile hotpot feature for free. I haven't rooted it yet but I have the z4 root application on my phone. So how can I go about doing this?
Run z4root and then download and run wireless tether. Its not on the market so google it and you will find the latest version. I don't recall whether it will run on a stock kernel; if not you'll want to install a custom rom.
Sent from my Bonzai'd Epic 4g.
It is usually usable only on the Eclair build when rooted. Sometimes not ;-)

Ok I found a hit on google for wireless tether on google code. The only samsung glaxy device I saw said it ran on 1.5 but I'm on 2.1 so it should work right. I'm not sure if the device listed works with epic but it said galaxy device. Also will sprint notice the increase of data usage and charge me more?
Nope, unless you start dl movies.

So standard internet browsing should be fine then?
Your expectations are unrealistic and this is a really easy subject to search for.
I don't unerstand how my expectations are unrealistic but thanks for the responses anyways.

Here you. Root and wifi tether and other stuff all in one. Easy menu.

If you are on 2.1 the best way is to get clockwork (use the one click root) then find mobile ap in the dev section and apply the zip. Way more stable than wireless tether in my experience.

Thanks much Jay. Gonna give that link the once over before I mess with the phone itself. Thanks ipaq as well. I'll check that out if I find any problems with the one in Jay's link.
Definitly if you are staying on stock rom, use mobile ap, it is soooooooooo much better then wireless tether, and if you follow my tutorial after rooting and getting clockwork first you can have themes with it too.
I think what he's trying to say about your expectations is you think you can do this and give everyone internet on your dorm. Do you know how slow that will run? Also you can only connect so many devices at one time. I don't know how many for wireless tether but mobile AP is 5. Yes wireless tether is a great feature its just not going to meet your expectations for helping a while dorm out.

What college do you attend?
Am I missing the OP's question that Sprint called this device a mobile hotspot?? Is Sprint lying?
If you don't pay the $30 a month charge for hotspotting, will Sprint find out and charge you any extra if you tether your phone after rooting it?

Ive been tethering since i had windows mobile, and ive never been in trouble, just dont download movies or any other big files. I mean its not even worth it to download movies takes too long anyhow. Just dont take your phone in rooted with that app on it or then u might get into some trouble.
If you have an epic 4g you have unlimited (truely unlimited) data...they are not going to say anything regardless of how much data you use. That being said spint will not Check the status of your phone (root or un rooted). You are go to go on tethering

Yeah, I don't plan on doing anything crazy like torrenting. I'd use this to tether my iPad if I'm in an airport or on a long trip, or maybe if I'm on vacation and don't wanna pay $10-30 for the hotel's wifi. That's all. Nothing mundo crazy where I'm using gigs of transfers.
Thanks for letting me know!
I have a question that I hope someone here can answer.
I've toyed with the idea of installing one of the hotspot programs. But, I'm very wary of surfing the Net without a NAT/firewall between my Windows box and the Net. Do these programs provide firewall-type protection to the machines that are surfing through them?
Drake

Tethering method. I wonder?

So I wonder. Some people are afraid about Sprint or other companies noticing that they are thethering. Now i Wonder with teh EVO 4G's Web browser can you tunnell the connection through.. Sort of like you connect to the desktop so that the data end up passing into the phone then through its browser. Not using the browser to view links but a script of sorta that sends the info of the browser and phone along wiht the data... just like some sort of tunnling method.
Not sure if this is understood much:/
Which is pretty much exactly what pdanet does.
Either way, it doesnt matter. Sprint sees data as data. They can't tell if you are using the data on the phone or tethering to a computer.
It was for people who are freaked out. Well a usefull thing that allows without a app useage but. Just one of my many ideas.

Yes I actually got in on the deal.
Thanks for the tip OP.
I got it on the action as well.
Although not really sure if/how I am going to use it, since they don't offer a client for linux and I already have a Subsonic server set up for my music streaming needs, but it's good to have options and even better if they are free.

I wondered that too

thanks alot of the info. i was just looking at logmein and dropbox the other day and was thinking about it, but this is a sweet deal. i don't know if it's the same kind of service. but i think it's better for me to have access to my entire computer, then have to upload it to dropbox, and logmein seems more to just viewing and sharing screen content. so this seem like a great idea. thanks alot OP..
I got one so may have to set it up and see what happens!
On their website there is a Pogoplug hard drive. Is that a good thing to buy for this?
>On their website there is a Pogoplug hard drive. Is that a good thing to buy for this?
Pogoplug used to be a hardware/software product. It's morphed to a software app that can be installed on your PC. It is a file/media sharing solution that can be accessed across the net, or within your home network. The diff with DropBox is that you're the host, so you have unlimited storage, but are limited by your broadband upload speed.
The free version can't stream movies. For that, there is the premium version ($29). The above offer is for a free license to said premium version. You can of course buy their hardware, but there is no reason to.
Let me know when the offer is dead, and I'll amend the OP.
the party is over. my co-worker just try getting a license, and they have reach the cap. but they are offering $10 off, so yoy can still get in on the action for $20. but nothing is better then FREE..so thanks again.
by the way those who already have a license, you can download this to as many computers as you want. using the same License code, AS LONG AS IT IS UNDER THE SAME ACCOUNT. in other words, you can put it on your mac, on your pc, on your job computer, on your girlfriend pc or mac, as long as they all log in under your same email you use to sign up. the only down part to this is it has to either be your computer or someone you trust, becasue they will have access to all the files on every computer that you are sharing.
so as long as you keep your porn collection out of the share folder, you can have you wife log in under your account. lol

[Q] Would you use Torrents for ROM's?

As you may see from my sig I maintain torrents of all the ROM's for the Desire S, and it has gone down very well there, people have donated a little money to the idea and I was able to rent and run a seedbox with a 1GB line just for there ROM's, thus giving people a fast and 'free' way to download ROM's
So the question is would people be interested in the same thing for the Note? It costs very little for me to run a seedbox (about $5 a month) and I would happly pay for some/all of this If there was enough interest in the idea?
A few advantages we came up with where
Assuming we would be downloading from a filehost (free)
1) Can pause a torrent
2) Zero waiting time to start download
3) Little to no chance of corrupted file
4) If corrupted only need the file blocks that are damaged
5) Unaffected by timeouts
6) Can seed the file to others (I see it as a +)
7) Could be faster than a free filehost download
If your not sure what a torrent or torrenting is check out the good old wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)
This goes to both developers and users, do you want torrents or not?
alot of isp's block torrents so its a PITA to use

This is true, however there are plenty of ways round this. And in some country's the big free download sites don't work or are horribly slow, at least torrents can give fast downloads around the world no matter where they are.
But you are right..guess to sides really
I'd like torrents.
IMO its probably safer because packages are less likely to be corrupted.

I would most definitely use torrents
It means zero waiting time on starting the download, and no more captcha's
Same here. I use torrents around the clock, and it's simply the best way to share big files. I've seen a couple of devs that have started to use torrents instead of those slow and unreliable sharing services, and i'm glad they do.
So my vote goes to YES.
Torrents are great, cant think why not...so Yes
Since all of the hosting site are closing shop, changing there policies or ending up like megaupload. Torrents became my source for files and entertainment.
Im happy im getting back into torrents, forgot how easy it was.
+1 for torrents and the fact I personally use tTorrent on my handset means, I can still download them straight to my phone if and when needed.

Looks like thats a yes then I shall put in a request to add another seedbox to my account and then open a thread in the dev section, whos the mod for the note? So I can ask to get it stickied once its up
Torrent all the way! I love the idea!

Oh christ no, Torrents are good for things which remain the same for a long time, like a movie, but a ROM becomes out of date the moment a new one is released...
Stick to DDL (rapidshare should be used more, I recon). I'd love to use usenet (NZBs) to get ROM's, it fast, no waiting, uploader only needs to 'seed' it once.
Though its only useful to people with a subscription, or if they get it free with an ISP.
It's the developers ROMs though, so really they can upload them where they wish!

Remote Desktop & Remote Android - Anroid

Hi all,
I have a weird requirement.
I have a Galaxy Note 4.
1. I installed gotomypc app and gotomypc software on my work laptop and my Galaxy Note 4 and I can browse my Home laptop when I'm outside.
Similarly, is there any app, which I can install on my Galaxy Note 4 and remote control my another Verizon Galaxy S5 Phone in my home?
I want to just do everything, like I do when I connect via gotomypc software to my laptop from my Phone or Work Laptop.
I don't mind paying monthly fee for this app, if there is a subscription fees. Just like for gotomypc, I pay $9.95/ Month.
Thank You for Your suggestions.

You can install a VNC client on your Note 4 and install this app on your S5. I haven't done this from one phone to another but it definitely works for me running a VNC client from my PC and remote controlling a phone. I used it to connect to my LG Optimus L9 many, many times. It's a one-time cost of $10.
Splash top, log me in, vnc, to name but a few.
Not too sure about phone to phone.
Phone to PC works, have no idea why you would want to control another phone unless it was to snoop, there are other apps out there for stuff like that, don't know if xda promotes stuff like that though
Actually Teamviewer is free for personal use

Is there any way that I can past the games.
I paid $10. But it asking me download some crap game and asking me to play that crap game.
I hate playing games.
Its pathetic that, even after paying the money, You cannot go forward in using the App, and You are forced to download some crap.
Obviously, filing a charge back with my Credit card company and they will take care of the rest. I will not loose my $10.
Are there any other alternatives.

What game?? None of those apps come with a game, they're all distributed on the play store, as i said i'm not sure about phone to phone, there wouldn't be any need to do that unless you were spying on someone and as I've already said, I don't think XDA like people talking about that stuff.
