does anybody have any rough ideas what would the wildfire score in linpack with jit in like a cyanogenmod and overclocked? i see many lower budget smartphones reaching 10/15 mflops! would this be possible on the wildfire?
Yes! when running 2.2 android maybe!
My desire had 8 on 2.1 android.
Moved to 40 with 2.2 android
its 5x more. today wildfire have ~3 x5=15 so yeah maybe.
so we have to wait for froyo to come?
my main concern is that when im going through settings and apps and all that, i get some lag. for example when in settings and i press for something to open, the transaction is not smooth as the desire. would that be better with the froyo update?
no answer? :/
FroYo is way more efficient and thus its faster.
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-fast-android-22-froyo-reportedly-boost-speed-450-percent
with launcherpro you can go through your apps with no lag at all so i guess its not the "raw cpu power" thats missing then rather bad optimization of htc sense for wildfire. i could be wrong tho
what i mean is for example when ur in setting and press about phone, in desire and other phones the transaction to next screen is very fast and smooth while on the wildfire i have to wait just a little bit.
would that be better when froyo finally come out -.-
I know what zaphod-159 is talking about now, I have a Legend and playing Hyper Jump (lite) on it is good and fast - however on my wifes' Wildfire it's much slower and to me is not playable. The processor's are similar and the speed difference in Mhz is not a great deal, but yet it is so much slower.
Hopefully 2.2 official will solve that and the reports of x10 increase some phones have had will happen on the Wildfire
that would be soo nice any idea when froyo will be out for the wildfire?
btw, which phones showed an increase of x10? and would that be possible on the wildfire?

Simple answer Yes. This is my best phone yet.
just made the same switch, getting mine later today or tomorrow.. hope its not "android" lagging as engadget writes
anyone who says that this phone lags is a jack*ss. If you run a quadrant benchmark on the stock phone you get marks of around 2000 which beats a nexus one by around 600. I use the android revolution rom and get a score of around 2500. On linpack i get 75 megaflops. The "lagging" problem is solved by switching the usb debugging option on. This phone rocks!! With an adreno 205 graphics unit, 1 ghz processor(can be overclocked upto 1.53 ghz --- buzzoc) and 768 mb of ram..its the fastest phone on the market today
Yes, the hardware is top of the line on the DHD, but still im afraid of the OS, engadget (known Apple fans) wrote about the Naxus S -"touch response and general framerate on everything seems to be cranked closer to the vicinity of the iPhone 4....-with little of that Android-lag we've seen on earlier devices".
But after seeing some youtube clips on the DHD and not noticing any lagg what so ever, i ordered mine and hope that engadget just doesnt like Android in their reviews

75 MFLOPS? What have you done with your phone??? I have Android Revolution 1.8 with the 1.1.1 Buzz Kernel 1,51Ghz running on Performance Mode (SetCPU) and I get around 53 MFLOPS ... ??

there is a bug called the init bug causing the lag, all you need to do is enable usb debugging mode from the development menu and it will go away for good, also animated live wallpaper are known to slow things down a notch, so leave that off
all android froyo phones after few days of usage might drop speed so when this happens all you need is to make a restart and it will be very fast again, the reboot takes a moment, also you should know this speed drop is not reflected inside the apps, only the main interface and it only happens when you've been using the phone heavily for a couple of days without a restart
gingerbread is said to have an app garbish cleaning mechanism that should hopefully fix this issue, HTC updated/updating its desire, legend and wildfire to froyo, so you should expect their flagship DHD to get the gingerbread update first
otherwise phone is blazing fast, fastest android phone on the block, equal or faster than the nexus S (the 2nd gen snapdragon is very optimized plus higher IO and more RAM, highly overclockable)
the GPU is also fast in theory the nexus S should be faster but all test are showing better results from the DHD's adreno 205 GPU, it runs quake 2 at 45-60fps, neocore at 58FPS, nenamark at 42FPS
Thanks for answers guys. I will switch my iphone tomorrow for this baby dhd

good choice
lots of info in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864393
If I'm iphone4 user, I will not think twice to get the dhd. HTC ftw!

Well in setcpu .. in the performance mode increase max and min level both to maximum possible ...( i use the buzzoc 1.55 kernal ... that gives me 75 mflops)
EDIT: well and restart your phone before you run linpack
There, now im a user, lets hope i dont **** up the phone while rooting ;(

Definitely yes for me. Previously I was using Windows Mobile 6.5

Try it without rooting first to see if you really need the DHD rooted. I have rooted mine but to be honest I still haven't done anything that needs root access. The OS gives you the opportunity to install non-market apps, so unless you want a custom ROM or overclocking, it makes little sense to root it. And if you decide to do it anyway, there are some good step-by-step guides in the development section on how to do it safely.
Anyway - enjoy your new phone! I know I do

Okey. Might be wrong place to ask, but on my dhd the screen is beneith the case, hence my finger makes a sound against it while I swipe left if right.
Is it just mine or is it the design. ?

It's the design. The point in this is to keep it from scratching the screen while put upside-down. And if you install a screen protector, it lies completely inside that space, so it's leveled with the heightened "lip".

And yes it is a DHD
Awesome phone i got it today. But i can't really find some instructions how to install some theme or skin witch are at theme section, i know that my phone need to be ruted and all that, but can some one trow me few links with instructions please ? Thanks
Iphone might be more user friendly but android is more customisable. Plus desire hd has great hardware. Iphone is for followers, android is for leaders.
If you're a nerd and like to fiddle, android is for you, otherwise, stick to apple.

Before I state my point, I just need to clarify that I have been on various Froyo/Gingerbread ROMs.
Anyway, I have reviewed many Androids before, including the SE Xperia X10 mini, X8, Samsung Galaxy 5, Samsung Galaxy Mini.
What I have come to realize is that my Wildfire is incomparable to ANY of these old models. No matter what I do, install OpenFire fresh/CM7 fresh, overclock, uninstall & wipe stock apps... the phone is NEVER as fast as ANY of the phones mentioned above.
Is there any way to alleviate this, or is it that the 528MHz processor is the weak link in this phone?
Would really love input from fellow forumers. Thanks.
Wildfire has an older CPU architecture and an older non-gpu chipset, both of which are important factors for the performance.
And we cannot do anything other than overclocking to max (which also don't make it fast enough). Wildfire is already outdated.

I do know that. Thanks for the input btw. IMHO when overclocked, all it does is boost performance unnecessarily. I see little to no change in speed, sometimes even smoother when I reduce the clock speed.
I guess this just calls for a new phone soon.
What did i do to make it faster..
Back to android 2.1 stock rom (extracted rom.zip from 2.1 wwe ruu, installed with pc49img.zip)
Root the rom with superoneclick
Fastboot flashed cwm 2.5.0.7 recovery
Flashed nfinity mc4 kernel
Overclocked 480 - 710 mhz @ smartass governor
Its very fast and snappy, try it, i wont be changing roms for a long time, if we dont get ice cream sandwich when its out, ill never change it.

What can i do to make my phone run just as fast and snappy and smooth when rotating? Phone lags and is not the same when rotating? Im running Wildhero rom. But ive ran others and same thing. Can the hero run just as smooth or will it lag on rotating? And scrolling apps on home screen? What is this called when its lagging like this? I like to be able to surf and run apps just the same as but as a wider screen and fast sort to speak.
Easy answer ... no. Why? Because our little heros just aren't that fast enough to do that. Even overclocked it doesn't help. Best advice is to get a new phone then if its that unbearable or better yet a tablet .
arm6 processors are a drag arnt they matt lol
Yes i figured overclock would slow way down but could it help to stabblize it say happy medium 176/691? Ive notice this with all roms. Its too bad this phone cant do this. I have a motodroid 1 it has no problem in this area and its old. I guess cause the 588 mhz helps alot.
So is there a different rom that would help this or no. Like 2.1 or froyo 2.2 or they all same as far as performance rotated? How come settings menu flys so much faster than any rom for the hero? It would be nice to find a rom for our hero that was just as fast
the hero topped out at 691 mhz before being over clocked the droid topped out at 800mhz and my current phone is 1ghz
Oh yes i know and its funny how the droid can go just a bit further i have it smooth at 1100.
But man this little hero keeps tickin. Makes my waiting for my shooter completely bearable
Yea same here id like to know when the 4g comes out or at least see if ice cream 4.0 would help the hero at all. There are alot of the cyano and gb roms that make you forget youre on a hero because the tweaks and kernels. It will be interested too see how far the hero can really go. Not overclock wise but just new roms coming out and when 2.3.5 even passes to the next ver

is there a way how to speed up the gingerbread on 3d gaming like on froyo?
in froyo my NFS Shift is like 55 - 60 fps but in gingerbread its just around 30 - 40 fps..
same on Quadrant in 3d rendering the red and blue dna like rolling figure is 49 - 50 fps in FROYO but in gingerbread it wont pass 30 fps
any tweaks on how to boost 3d rendering speed?
First of all, wrong section
Froyo indeed had better hardware acceleration than gb, and the kernel was also a lot better, Samsung rushed gb and messed things, but does it really affect you, the human eye can see @ ~30fps max, so does it matter?
honestly im seeing the difference.. 30fps is like lagging/stuttering to my naked eye..
i dont know but maybe its because I'm used to a high FPS on my computer.. the lowest FPS i see on my PC game is 90 fps. that's why I can differenciate 30fps to 60fps

Some people can really tell the difference. Sadly, I'm one of them
But I started using the tab as more of a work device than gaming, so the newer features of Gingerbread far outweighed the gaming performance of Froyo for me.

LOL i'm also one of them, and this was one of the reasons HC needed froyo bootloader!
actually in terms of UI rendering and office apps specially on loading.. Gingerbread beats froyo over a mile ahead.. gingerbread is smoother only the 3d gaming is the problem.. but very well going to stick on gingerbread 2.3.6..
and btw.. Froyo also allows to underclock the CPU with higher value than gingerbread.. on froyo I can run 1.4ghz with -350mv stable but on gingerbread I cant get past -50mv stable on 1.4ghz..
any other tweak on how are the others getting a monstrous 3K score on quadrant?

GB is faster than froyo, it would more, but Samsung rushed out the update, and that ruined it partially.
UV is kernel issue, try with some other kernel first, and -350mv is insane!
3k in quadrant is nothing, its just a score, can be fooled, mostly its fooled in I/O part
-350mv running stable on 1.4ghz is true..
have you tried a FROYO with any kuxodaxi's kernel?
i suggest you try it and see for yourself
yeah Gingerbread is faster in froyo but not on samsung..
on tab froyo beats gingerbread in terms of 3d gaming
by the way what is the best I/O scheduler for you?

Honestly, no
I got my tab from my dad sometime back, and i had already updated to gb via *cough* kies *cough*, so didnt get a chance to try it out more.
i hope someone can port the UI speed of Gingerbread to the Froyo XD

Hi! i made a benchmark on the hd2 both with android froyo and ics hwa and i noticed that the rom with the higest point is the froyo one! i got 1100 for the ics and ~1400 for the froyo one, wich beated also the nexus s.
this is really strange because the gaming performances of froyo are terrible (i had ~2-3 fps with gta3), and it's also slow with the sense 2 homescreen management.
is this normal? thanks

Were both ROMs nand or SD? Cause the difference could be in the io speeds. You should post screen shots of both results
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
Yes it's normal because the phone devotes more resources to hwa, which is what makes your games fast. Phones get relatively lower quadrant score on ics. So it's not accurate to compare it if you changed os version. If you want, you can easily boost the score by ~1000 by installing data2sd, but you need a good SD card to feel the difference yourself.

Really?! Just goes to show, benchmarks aren't a valid way of proving speed. Perhaps it is as hengsheng120 said due to the HWA or something. Either way, ICS is definitely faster than Froyo.
yes as said, for me too ics is faster thank froyo, i just wasn't sure of the reason of this gap.
i don't think that it wold make any difference installing data2sd because of my old sd.
i agree with who thinks that hwa is making this difference, and that is an invalid information to compare OS's. ics is certainly faster with scrolling (the web browsing it's awesome) and 3d.
thank you all and sorry for my english XD

Actually, your English is pretty good. Yeah, even if I could get a score of 10000 on Froyo I'd never consider ditching ICS for it
yes while using them you can clearly see that ics beats froyo all the way XD
