Hi
I have installed stock 2.2 via the 'update.zip' route on my HTC Incredible. Need to know how I can get root now, as I had already s-off'd earlier before applying the 2.2 update.
HTC Incredible
Android 2.2 - nbuild 3..21.605.1
Baseband ver 2.15.00.07.28
s-off
thanks and regards

just install EVO UNREVOKED 3 before you upgrade to froyo 2.2 and then you can install OMJ's ROM and everything will work, i did on 2 phone without any problems.
hang on, you installed OMJ's rom without a proper root OR a NAND unlock??
After much research on the site, I wasn't able to locate anything current on if a 2.1 can be downgraded back to the 1.56 version?
I am currently running the latest v1.56 fresh mod, and it runs great and have no problems with it. I am debating on upgrading to the newest Cyanogen mod, but I do NOT want to be stuck w/ 2.1 if it doesn't work properly. I had to have Sprint send me a new phone after I upgraded last time because the 2.1 just totally screwed with my in-car bluetooth device. Right now, bluetooth is very stable and such, but now just wanting to try the update.
If I wanted to downgrade, how exactly would I do that? I'm kinda gunshy on doing this since it all seems to be working fine right now.
Any help is appreciated!
Just root your 1.56 device as it is, using an old root method for 1.5 versions. Do NOT apply the 2.1 RUU or use the root steps for 2.1.
When you're rooted on 1.56 and have a custom recovery, you can apply any ROM you want, including the newer 2.1 ROMs.....all without fully upgrading your whole phone to the stock 2.1 release.
This is what I've done. Technically my phone is still on 1.5 root, because I never applied the official 2.1 RUU. But with the custom recovery image (you'll see how to get that in the rooting guide), I am running a 2.2 ROM. I could easily uninstall/delete this ROM and still return to the 1.5 stock state.
This will let you try CM6 or any other 2.1 or 2.2 ROMs without crossing that "can't go back" state. PM me for more help if you'd like.

Hi guys,
I want to install a custom ROM on my Wildfire. I currently have 2.2.1 on in and I checked the HBOOT (v1.10.0001) and it shows S-OFF.
Is there any way to backup my current ROM without having to root the phone(downgrading to 2.1 and then running unrevoked)?
Cheers

Are we still unable to root if on TMO's 2.15 GB update? Just got a replacement phone today (old one's wifi finally went out), and I wanted to use Titanium to restore apps etc.
no but theres a downgrade guide all over the Android Development forums that shows you how to downgrade your gingerbread device to stock froyo 2.2...From there you can use any root method you want for the G2
Edit: heres the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Bleh, shoulda rooted before I manually upgraded then.
My hero came from Africa, unfortunately i'm trying to install custom roms and RUU official 2.1.. here's my problem:
1. OTA software update is not available on my phone thru Settings>>About>>No OTA
2. I've tried all ROM Managers from old to new versions, but no avail to install.. "Rom manager cannot be installed on the phone"
3. My firmware version is 1.5
Please help.. anyone with official RUU 2.1 of africa here?
If you want to install custom ROMs, http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Hero_(GSM):_Full_Update_Guide follow this guide to root and install a custom recovery on your phone, after you do this i suggest you to use jordfazs CWM 5 recovery and flash that and then you can flash anything you want
